Visited restaurant with two young kids today, landlady came over and very rudely told our kids to be quite as disturbing local drinkers who were much louder. When we realised this wasn’t a joke we asked her to come over at which time I told her she was very rude and she told us to not come back. Moral to the Story is... if you have kids don’t visit. The dragon landlady only like local drinkers. Never come across such a horrible restaurateur?? Or maybe just bog standard barmaid

How terrific to have this tiny little gem so near me. I took a gluten sensitive friend for Sunday lunch. We had the best roasts ever and delicious starters too. The menu is particularly attractive and there is choice for everyone - veggies, pescies etc. I told them in advance about the gluten issue and they were attentive and accommodating. The very best thing about this venue is the excellence of all elements of each dish. What a chef. Please keep this standard up and you will have such success. I'm back shortly!

We dined here based on a recommendation. We weren't disappointed. 24 covers only in 2 rooms upstairs. Small and quite intimate. Good service. Absolutely stunning food. I had crayfish cocktail for starter, lamb for mains and stocky toffee pudding for desert. The crayfish wad sooooooo tasty. The lamb was pink and cooked to perfection. The desert was awesome. We were given bread with a garlic and herb butter to start along with a smallvbreadcrumb fish ball something. Complimentary and a lovely touch. The overall experience was really positive. With 2 or 3 bottles of wine the bill for 2 was ££100. Not bad for superb food. We will be back!

My parents took us here for dinner. I have known of the pub for years, but I think they have only recently started doing food. The dining room is upstairs on two sides. It is quite small, but in a cosy way. The menu is fairly short but with some good options, I had the crab as a starter, it was really tasty and the fish and chips for my main, again they were excellent, good fat chips and crispy batter. I was too full for a pudding, but two of our party had the cheesecake which was a good sized portion and delicious by all accounts. I certainly recommend this place and hope to be back soon.

We were recommended by friends to try the new restaurant upstairs at the Rising Sun Alehouse in High Wych. Always looking for decent food and service in our area we couldn't wait to try and we were not disappointed! Before I even talk about food, the service was impeccable. What a pleasant change from the norm we're quite often used to in local establishments! It is very small. I think only a total of 24 covers so I imagine you will need to book in advance. It is currently open for dinner Wednesday-Saturday and lunchtime, Sunday. They do not serve food at lunchtime but hopefully, that will come soon. They have a small set menu which we like as we know everything is fresh and changes with the seasons. We were given a 'muse bouche' of deep fried camembert with mayonaise and fresh crusty bread with smoked cheese and chive butter. Divine! We probably ate too much bread! We both had crayfish, crab starter and curried monkfish for mains. The monkfish was delicious and quite large! On the next table, someone had cod loin with risotto and they appeared to be loving that too. My only feedback would be to perhaps griddle the tomato bread served with the crayfish rather than it seemed, deep fried. Saves on a few calories? I'm sure as time goes on they will take on feedback from other reviewers on a few little picky things. We had no room for the pudding but they looked fabulous. The SA white Sauvignon by the glass was both reasonable and very nice. Altogether a great meal and we wish them all the luck and will be back soon.

Wow - what a culinary experience....The newly opened restaurant at the Rising Sun is an example of how great food can taste (as well as look) - the diverse menu met both of our needs - my Veggie meal was truly wonderful... Although the actual restaurant is upstairs - as my husband has reduced mobility we booked a table in the snug area which was just far enough away from the main pub to make it really cosy...as we looked at the menu we were offered an amuse bouche (yummy) and a plate of chunky break with cheese infused butter (again yummy ) The food and wine that followed was a total joy - the service was outstanding, and the whole evening was one of the best dining experiences that we have had in a while.....Huge Thanks to Lauren, Lewis and the team - we will be booking again soon

I have reviewed this pub before and still totally love the beer and the welcoming atmosphere, so for my husband birthday I arranged a surprise party for him - Sharon the landlady, arranged a beautiful buffet with food of my choice and Lauren, (daughter and co manager) who is a maker of fine patisserie by profession make the most wonderful themed cake. The theme was "calendar boys" as my husband and 12 other men of a certain age had posed ( in a very tasteful way) for a calendar to raise funds for the Essex Air Ambulence.............this pub really brings the community together and welcomes everyone who wishes to sample so very well kept beer. A uniquely adult attraction enjoyed by both sexes. The best beer straight from the barrel for miles. Ex locals return year after year to experience the sadly diminishing experience of an English beer house (traditional opening hours, only food available are bar snacks) at least 4 ales on tap at any one time, don't expect a range of lagers

Well known locally as the premier real ale venue, it never disappoints with the quality and variety of its beers. These days the pub itself is pleasant as well and much more conducive to mixed company rather than the blokes drinking haunt that it used to be!

If you enjoy going to a pub to drink good beer then the Rising Sun is well worth a visit. Parking is plentiful in the Village Hall car park opposite the pub. There is a list of current beers which doesn't change that often perhaps because they are good and the pub is frequented by a very regular group of locals who have their favourites and in many cases their own ale jugs into which it is served. Seating is limited at the weekend and there is no food at all so you can drop in have a very good pint and move.
