Popped in for a drink.. Lovely place with a nice atmosphere. Even though we didn't eat the food looked amazing. Next visit will be dining there.

A great Villiage pub roaring fire ( even though a bit too warm today . Like to have a moan) Good service & a fantastic roast dinner & the puddings looked good . Well worth a visit a hidden gem .

Hospitality is great, you feel welcome. Owner is really trying to provide a good exeperience. Food was good at a good price. We ate here twice during our short stay and were surprised by the atmosphere and food.

This pub which is under new management has definitely upped their game. The food was perfectly cooked. The fish is fresh and deliciously cooked by their chef Max. If you are looking for a traditional pub in the countryside,this ticks the boxes.

Charming countryside pub with a lovely atmosphere and amazing food. Such a refreshing change to have a nice choice for vegetarians with a homemade Vegetable Wellington. The Yorkshire Pudding was amazing! Finished with local ice cream for dessert, honey and lavender. Will definitely visit again soon. The staff were very attentive and nice to chat to.

Checked online to see if they had tables for food, which they did have until 9PM. We arrived at around 8PM and politely asked if they are still serving food. We were informed by the staff that the whole pub has run out of food... We've never heard of that excuse before but we continued to buy a drink anyway and sit down. We then saw 3 people turn up after us who then proceeded to be sat down by the same member of staff we spoke to and they took their food order!! After bringing this up to a member of staff at the bar, they stated it was that fact they only had food left for anyone who reserved a table. By that logic, I could still book a table online there and then and then order food. Really poor service, I don't appreciate being lied to and then seeing another group of people being sat down and orders taken.

Brought out food before eating utensils, food was cold before we got the utensils, no condiments offered

Had a lovely Sunday lunch today, service was great, the food was spot on, staff were also very attentive and everyone including other customers were very friendly, it’s a lovely atmosphere. We would definitely make this a regular haunt!! Will be taking other friends and family to enjoy another great meal. Well done to everyone at the Black Horse.

This place is an amazing Gem of a pub. Hidden in a quiet village called Brent Pelham. We went there on a whim, having been there once many years ago. What we found was wonderful. The atmosphere was good, the staff very friendly and the service was fantastic. Now the menu, too many good things to choose from. It was varied, catering for all tastes. It was Fish and Chip night, when we went. The piece of fish served was as long as your forearm and delicately battered. Home made chips added to the experience. The beef short rib was a delight. Well cooked and full of flavour. The homemade spinach and ricotta ravioli in a pea and mint jus was also a thing to behold. The chef here certainly knows how to prepare fantastic meals. We will most certainly be back again, soon. Thank you for an enjoyable evening.

I ordered gammon egg & chips eggs where hard gammon was awfully fat under cooked gammon was dry worst meal ever had there new management need to sort out won't go back such a good pub being run very badly

Been meaning to visit this pub / restaurant for a while after reading the reviews. Finally a bank holiday weekend seemed perfect time to do so . Definitely was worth the 30 min drive. Through some lovely countryside. Pub is stunning. Lovely decor. The atmosphere was so welcoming. The food menu vast and well thought out. I had the short rib which was absolutely gorgeous. The added bonus of a singer at lunchtime was a real treat. We spent nearly 4 hours at our table. With drinks flowing and service exceptional. Definitely on the come back list this one.

Wonderful lunch at The Black Horse today, Bank Holiday Monday. The new owners have made a real effort, and the place was buzzing! Great food, great atmosphere, and live music was an added bonus!

Excellent Sunday lunch. Lamb shank was very tender. Freshly cooked vegetables. Cauliflower cheese was delicious with a browned cheesy toping.

This seems like a lovely pub with a pleasant inside and a nice garden. However, it is completely let down by the service. We attended as a large group that pre-booked and pre-ordered for a birthday celebration. Only one person serving behind the bar on a busy Saturday. The food was 45 mins late coming out, so we asked where it was and were told that they couldn’t even give a time estimate. It eventually arrived over an hour late. The waitress did apologise, but couldn’t give a reason why it was so late. The manager offered a round of drinks to apologise, but didn’t bother to come to our table, even after we pointed out that we had all pre--ordered and some had travelled for hours to get there and were starving. The food was ok, but we then had to wait a long time for the cake to come out - and had to ask twice. Overall the meal took well over three hours due to the poor service, so unfortunately I can’t be particularly positive about our experience. It was a special day and unfortunately this terrible service was just not acceptable.

Lovely meal at lunchtime - interesting things and tastes on the menu as well as the tried and tested pub classics. Loved the use of candied jalapeños - and the lemon balm. We had 4 starters between the two of us. All were lovely. Super service, and very friendly. Great to see it up and running. Sunday lunch looks like a future booking for us. Anywhere that does pink beef is a plus!

A really lovely meal at The Black Horse. Service was friendly and excellent, and the food was delicious. Our sons enjoyed playing in the wwoods around the pub gardens.

Staff are very friendly and there when needed for drinks etc. food was AMAZING! Lovely roaring fire and comfortable setting. Visited on Mother’s Day and still managed to keep everyone happy. Excellent lunch today at The Black Horse, Brent Pelham. A really lovely atmospheric pub with a relaxed feel. Tasty crispy whitebait, beautifully moist salmon fillet from the specials board and the lightest Sticky Toffee Pudding with mango sorbet. Good pint of Doom Bar and excellent friendly and unhurried service throughout the meal.

Delicious food and lovely, friendly staff. Great country, dog friendly pub. They even have dog ice cream! The staff were very conscious of dietary restrictions, and we're able to change dishes to suit us. I'm looking forward to going back again soon.

Really lovely, down to earth, friendly pub. Solid menu that also has kids sizing. Service is great, the kind of place where the staff know you and are happy to have a chat, without sacrificing service. Dog friendly, which is so refreshing.

Amazing atmosphere, friendly staff and great food makes this pub now one of my favourites. The quality-quantity-price ratio is excellent. Even the cheese cauliflower side was great, which is not usually something remarkable in most pubs. Will definitely come back.

Very beautiful pub with a lovely circular walk to and from it. Roast was very nice, and the service was excellent - Abigail was so lovely to us and made our visit really comfortable and happy.

We often visit this pub especially for the pie night and Sunday roast. Always delicious and served a welcoming smile. Highly recommended for the quaint pub atmosphere and when the weather is good, the outside space too. And don’t forget your pooch !!

I stopped here last night for a drink and directions as i was lost and the satnav was not picking up any signal. The kind gentleman behind the the bar gave me directions that got me back onto a main road. I was extremely grateful! The pub was so lovely and friendly, with a wall of photos of some of their canine customers and welcome biscuits on the bar for dogs. It cheered me up after my frustrating journey! I only wish it was near me as I would definitely visit again with friends!

Went for lunch with my brother daughter & niece for a belated birthday meal for the girls. As soon as we got there we were greeted with friendly smiley bar staff. We were shown to our table by a lovely young lady who was polite & asked us if everything was OK with the table, which it was. She apologised & said there was a 45min wait for food is that going to be OK & it was for us. Food was amazing I had the belly of pork roast as did two others & it was very tasty indeed cooked to perfection !! We were asked several times if everything was to our liking, it was. Lovely location great food & fantastic staff. We will be back again. Thank you Black Horse 💖

Run out of 2 main courses by thd time we sat down. Why say you're open for Sunday dinner when you cannot serve two the main dishes? Had beef which was tough and too hard to cut. Gammon was the alternative option but we didn't want that! Went a few weeks ago and had a good evening! Very disappointed and won't be going back I'm afraid to say.

Table for two, no reservation was a risk but thankfully there was a space. (on a sunday). A beautiful hidden gem in Hertfordshire. A beautiful garden if you choose not to dine inside. Plenty of space for kids to run around. Would love to comeback in the winter. A classic, charming well run freehouse country pub.

Adhoc booking yesterday. Lovely place out in the country. Plenty of parking. Rustic inside. Pleasant, friendly, helpful staff. Food and service good. Opportunities.... have trays for the high chairs. Have a selection of vegan desserts. My daughter in law is dairy intolerant and the only desserts available were sorbet and vegan ice cream. Everywhere she goes, these are her only options...boring. also l had the apple and berry crumble for dessert...this was so sharp so why not let people know as l couldnt eat mine. When l mentioned it to our server l was told yes it is sharp either you like it or you dont. ( with a laugh ). I wouldnt of had it if l had of known. Will we visit again? No but it is a lovely place to

We had Sunday roast last week, nice food and good service, the coffee though was the worst we had ever had anywhere, it was like they had not changed the grinds all day, so bad we had to return them and ask them for the coffee to be taken off the bill..

Love that it is still a village pub and still feels like a pub. We came on Mother’s Day, generally the busiest day for pubs and restaurants. And it was busy.
