Delicious Sunday roast and excellent service. Very accommodating for our party of 8 which included a wheelchair user and a baby. Thanks so much!

Had the lasagne wasn't great, cheese sauce wasn't cooked out so floury rather than creamy, Eaton mess used frozen berries, criminal when strawberries are in season.

Newly renovated, has a much fresher look with a cafe open in the day. The food is of a good standard with a good selection of beers. The future looks hopeful and I woul recommend giving it a go.

So they have opened a cafe and very nice. They have a brunch menu with different stuff coffee tea cakes all look nice

Well service slow and when asked what drinks do they have waitress looked shocked and stumbled to give us drinks suggestions. Food so over price short of £20 for a roast which had dry tasteless potatoes, dry yorkshire pud and carrots looked a week old and dry. Such a shame as so much potential.

Lovely pub restaurant in picturesque village serving great quality food. Visited today for Sunday lunch with family. Decent choice of starters, main courses and desserts on offer. We went for main course and desserts 2 course offer which was very good value for money and very tasty! We received a genuine nice service and the atmosphere was relaxed, welcoming and friendly. First time here and would thoroughly recommend.

I want to say, how welcome everyone here made myself & my twin sister feel when we broke down outside. The landlord Freddie, all the staff and locals were some of the most accommodating people I’ve ever come across. Nothing was too much trouble to help us both. I couldn’t recommend The Rising Sun more.

After driving around delivering parcels we came across the Rising Sun, we were famished. We thought we were too late for food, but were offered the menu and a table by the fire. The food was fantastic, I would recommend the chicken thigh burger and the service was wonderful, such lovely people. We will return, thank you.

Visiting the area for the day and as a Sunday, lots of other places booked up, staff accommodated us without a problem. Order the Pork roast, which was excellent, Pork fell apart and tasted wonderful. Wife had Chicken which was just as succulent. I don’t like Cauliflower Cheese which they normally serve for 2, but provided a single portion. Sweet, home made Cherry & Chocolate cheese cake - fantastic, my wife had the cheeses board which they kindly provided a takeaway as more than adequate after such a wonderful main course. Overall an excellent lunch with excellent service.

Found this gem last Friday. Myself and my friend got stuck in the floods. The landlady was very welcoming. I can confirm the food and coffee was amazing

Lovely Sunday lunch in the friendly casual pub. We have been to their sister pub in Foxham a few times, so we thought we would try here, and like The Foxham, we were not disappointed. Wonderful roast pork, Yorkshire pudding and lots of fresh vegetables. Great value set lunch. Dog and baby-friendly. Will return.

We loved everything about this pub. The three of us had different food and all of it was perfectly cooked. Best pies in memory. Same with the chips, vegetables even the gravy was special. The service was welcoming, friendly and helpful with allergies. Location, ambiance, parking all good.

Wow wow wow, went for steak night and by far the best steak meal we have had in a long time. Everything on the plate was seasoned and tasted so good. No faults and I didn’t want the meal to end…. Also their blue cheese steak sauce is to die for! Super yum! Can’t wait to return!

The food was very tasty! We had Sunday roast, the portions were big, and the potatoes were perfect!! The service was very friendly and helpful. My friend asked if we could take one of the desserts to take away and the waitress recommended what was the best option.

Amazing food and service. We had an event that needed to be booked for 1530, they stop serving food at 1500 but made an exception. Couldn't be happier to celebrate my wedding here and will happily come back

I drove past this place by chance a week earlier and popped in for a drink and to look at the menu knowing nothing about it. A shot in the dark; I booked a table for four online (although booking wasn’t necessary - we had the choice of any table). Pleasantly greeted and seated with a drinks order taken promptly. Attentive, friendly (and patient!) service and pleasantly surprised with the quality of food. Chorizo starters were a generous serving and a tasty choice. The chef was accommodating with my additional request of steak accompaniment. We were pleasantly surprised and all enjoyed our meals. About £120 for two starters, 4 mains, 2 desserts and drinks. I’d visit again. Thanks for looking after us.

Attended a gin tasting night last Friday. Great evening Sadie that organised and ran the night was brilliant. Very knowledgeable about gin but good fun also. Tasted some lovely gin😊 Had pizza and burger also , really 😋 tasty.

Fabulous fish and chips, accommodated our 5 yr old granddaughter really well,also a great vegan burger, lovely environment, highly recommended .

An excellent selection of food and drink. Really nice local ales, and fresh hot food. I'd recommend these guys every time!

There were 3 generations, 13 of us in total. It is usually really difficult to get somewhere that can accommodate us on one table. But the rising sun team asked what we would like and set us up on one table. We were close to the garden for kids to run around, and they left garden games out to keep everyone amused. We had pizza, pasta and burgers for lunch with ice cream sundaes to finish. Will definitely be back!

This pub has really chill vibes, great coffee and service with a smile. Haven't had lunch yet but I've already eyed up the Malford Dog. Been here before and the food was a bit lackluster, but the new menu looks great and I've heard good things (Dog is also enjoying himself). Not a bad location either in cosy Christian Malford.

First visit since the new management and really did not disappoint. Absolutely gorgeous meal and fab service. Will definitely be back!

Staff and really nice and friendly. The only good thing to eat here is pizza. That’s it. They need to decide if they want food to be more for snacking or to actually have dinner. Don’t bother going for dinner. It’s over priced and not that great, with very little choices.

I last reviewed my local seven years ago and it has changed hands a few times since then. Happily for us the new owner has given it a new lease of life. It is clean, fresh with a great garden (boules pitch coming soon) and the food is oustanding. Freshly made sourdough pizzas are a real hit and the 'small plates' are easily made into a meal if needed with sides of chips and veg. There is also mac n cheese and some great desserts. The beer is well kept, with a good wine list and plenty of gins to keep me happy. I understand that live music is going to be a regular feature. It deserves to be supported and I recommend to locals and visitors alike.

The pub reopened in 8th April, I went for lunch on Good Friday (15th). It was obvious from the menu that it now caters for snacks, not meals, but it was lunchtime so should not have been a problem. There were 6 of us and a 7 month old child (no high chair available). The menu was small plates, pizza and assorted extras. The small plates were not the issue, they were more than big enough for the paltry amount of food that came on them. Pizzas were a reasonable size, but so thin, and with little topping. No complaints about the quality of the food, just that a normal person would need 2 small plate meals and a share of some of the side dishes to make a reasonable lunch. So disappointing as it is my local. I will happily visit the pub for drinks, but for food I will be going elsewhere. I hope this is just a toe in the water, and the menu becomes more substantial in future.

Great local, where the staff know most of these locals on first name terms... Excellent beers, fine gins and always a warm greeting... Oh and really clear and effective covid-29 prevention/protection measures in place.

On the way back from a 2 week stay in Cornwall,me my wfe and son with autism stayed for the weekend at my elder sons and his wifes to see our grandaughter and have family time. I looked online for a decent place to have Sunday roast and came across The Rising Sun in the quaint little village of Christian Malford, so I rang and booked all 6 of us in for Sunday 4th October 2020 at 1pm. We arrived and was soon welcomed by the landlord and shown to our table which was already waiting and had a bumper seat on for our 3 year old in the party. Drinks were soon ordered and served and my son was well happy as they had wifi, the landlord that explained that he had a child with special needs so understood our son. We all ordered our roasts and they all came on large plates with the veg served in a bowl of dishes, nothing was too much trouble even getting some cranberry sauce for my sin who didnt want the other sauces that went with the different meats. The landlord the introduced us to his son as he had popped downstairs and it was nice to say hello to him. The meal was very filing and plentiful of it. After the meal I asked if the landlord would take a family photo of us all, to which he did. A beautiful clean friendly pub and one that we would go back to in the future

My wife, myself and a good friend decided to give it a try. Wonderful food and very well looked after. Totally Covid 19 compliant but this didn't detract from our enjoyment. Will return.

We often visit this pub in Christian Malford for drinks and food, and since the pandemic it has been refurbished to make it just as welcoming but totally safe as well.Mike and Lisa are the most welcoming and friendly hosts., and offer delicious eat in or take away food - the pies on a Wednesday evening are wonderful, with loads of lovely fresh vegetables and a mountain of chips, as if they were needed.Well worth a visit!!

We drove long way on the basis of reviews ,photos and calling this establishment to eat. Very disappointing ,beware of making same mistakes.

Proper local pub. Excellent choice of real ales and cider as well as 63 different gins! Massive range of bar snacks, including pickled eggs!You'll get a very warm welcome and great service. Very cosy inside; you won't want to leave. Just like village pubs used to be! Don't drive, book a taxi!

Pie Night at The Rising Sun tonight, I was eating there with a group of very good friends, the food was excellent, a beautifully cooked homemade pie with plenty of fresh veggies & the most delicious chips. Thoroughly recommend you put this one in your diary, thank you to Mike, his lovely wife Lisa who prepared and cooked the tasty food, and to Laura who delivered the food to our table. Stayed here for two nights and had a great time , the setting is superb as is the decor inside the bar and restaurant . Staff were very helpful and the food was good . Lots of choices for breakfast and very quick to serve hot food . The room itself was clean and comfy with great views . Cheltenham shopping centre only 13 mins away so we chose a taxi £12 which was better than being stuck in traffic . Looking forward to staying here again , would reccommend this place !

We had a very pleasant Sunday roast at The Rising Sun. The food was good, large portions with an excellent choice of vegetables. The owners were attentive and the Father’s Day gift of 2 bottles of lager was a really nice touch!The 4 of us had a lovely lunch in nice surroundings. We would definitely return, my only slight criticism was the pub garden, which could be nice with a bit of TLC.

If you’re looking for a traditional country pub where you’re greeted with a smile and a friendly warm welcome this is the place for you!Popped here for what we thought would be a quick catch up and a bite to eat... but then we saw the gin list We had the homemade curry and the home battered fish and chips. The fish was enormous with an excellent, tasty homemade beer batter. The chips were crispy on the outside and soft inside. The curry was just delicious served with half and half and a poppadom and dips.The service was impeccable where nothing was too much.Will certainly be eating and drinking here again soon!

It's a nice enough pub/atmosphere, but goodness don't eat there. I ordered a burger which I can only describe as a kebab van burger - like the kind you get when you are too drunk to notice how dreadful it is. Unfortunately I was very sober. It is pretty much what you get I suppose, a burger (slightly overcooked, pretty dry) on a bun. That's it. Not even a smidge of butter and accompanied by oily chips and a lettuce leaf. Eaten because I was hungry and fearful of an alternative but without a doubt the worst meal I have ever eaten out. Not cheap either. Nice waitress who didn't really know what to say, but not really her fault. I'm not one to write reviews but we went here on Trip Advisor recommendations, I'm utterly gobsmacked by the food I received here and I would hate for someone else to have the same experience.

picking convenient places to eat off the bus route and this one came up good on reviews, so seemed like a good place to try. It was burger night being a Tuesday, which kept the OH happy, i chose the Red Thai for main. We had halloumi and chicken satay for starter and shared a cheeseboard. Staff were friendly and service good. Nice open fire and even though it was darts night, the pub wasn't particularly noisy, just a nice atmosphere.

I cannot praise Mike and Lisa enough, we booked our company Christmas party at the Rising Sun and on arrival we we informed we had exclusive access to both the pool room and restaurant, they also provided exclusive subsidised use of the pool table and Juke box. The food laid on completely exceeded our expectations. All in all our best Christmas Party ever, we have already booked for next year.

My self and my mum were kindly greeted on arrival and were quickly shown to our seats without reservations. We were served buy a beautiful waitress who I had a bit of a crush on ha. The food was really really good and so were the very friendly staff. The country pub it's self has a really nice modern friendly feel to it and that is reflected in the people who were having a few drinks in the bar area and the staff that were running the show. I will certainly return again, and I highly recommend it to others.

We stopped in on a bike ride for lunch. The pub was very quiet but we were given a friendly welcome by the barman. The menu is standard pub grub but our order was promptly supplied and the portions were plentiful.

This is the forth Sunday lunch we've had here and it's always excellent great food and lovely friendly staff, well done

It is great to see this lovely pub open again, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was ok, my one criticism would be that the chips were poor, I had more over fried chips that you could not eat than ones I could . Much prefer chunky chips . The onion rings were too greasy also. The prices are good , all it needs is a few tweaks.

Cheap and cheerful, food is good for price you pay

New owners and place had a lovely feel and relaxed ! Food was great with good portions and well presented! Already thinking when we can go next:)

I was born in 1991 in a little place called..... I'll just skip forward 26 years to the meal bit...

Great food, good value, good size portions. Visited with family, 8 of us, we all had something different and everyone’s meal was great. I had the special burger which was the thickest double burger I’ve ever had. Very tasty. Chips were fresh made and not out of a packet. Would definitely go again and can highly recommend. Dining area is separate to the pub so great for family’s. Average price for a meal was £10.

We visited the pub last night for dinner. It was fairly busy and we were warned we might have to wait a while for our food however the food arrived promptly, hot and tasty. Very good value.

I was visiting my friend when we decided to go for some dinner at his local as was the 1st night of them doing food after reopening under new management, and wow what an experience and not in a good way. There were 5 of us and all ordered different things from the menu, which include my niece asking for garlic mushrooms as a starter but wanted it at the same time as her main, 3 of us asked for various steaks which included a fillet and rump for myself and 3 peppercorn suaces, some of us had chips with 2 asking for mashed potatoes. What we got was shocking chips that were saggy and mash warm on the outside but cold in the centre (obviously out of a packet and reheated in a micro) niece didn’t get her mushrooms as was ordered and 2 of the steaks ordered not cooked to what was asked for with the 3rd one meant to be a fillet which had so much fat on it my friend couldn’t eat it or the mash potatoes but the shock was we got given a cream mushroom and garlic type of sauce instead of the peppercorn that we ordered so 2 asked for what they ordered and 20secs later a sauce was put down in front of them that was A. Ream sauce only and were informed on asking it was a peppercorn one. The rest of us eat ours as that’s what hunger does to you but my friend refused to eat his and decided to compain about it and said he would not be paying for his and returned his uneaten meal to the manager on the front bar. I after about 10mins as kids were still eating tried to pay for the 4 other meals and on approaching the young man at he bar was informed by him that due to the poor service received in not receiving hat we asked for he was waiving the cost of the meal at which point I bought some more drinks and than,ed him.

What a find! A warm welcome greets you as soon as you walk in the door. There’s a lovely atmosphere about the place.The food was delicious, compliments to the chef! I had lasagne and my husband had a mixed grill, all cooked to perfection and really tasty. Followed by chocolate brownie and lemon meringue, both as good as the main course. It was all very well priced for the quality of the food. I can’t praise the staff enough, from the landlord/lady Mike and Lisa, who were conscientious and attentive, to the lovely young waiter and talented chef.

Visited Sunday teatime. There was only one beer on draught. Asked for a pint but when it came it was very cloudy. Asked barman to change it but he argued that it was ok. It definitely was not! Eventually he changed it for lager.

After reading the many fantastic reviews on trip advisor me and my partner were looking forward to our dinner at the rising sun. It was shortly after we arrived that we realised something wasn't matching up. It transpires the pub/restaurant is now under new management as of May 2018 and judging from past reviews it is incomparable.

We ordered 2 portions of steak & ale pie, with mashed potatoes & veg.

The local village pub was recently taken on by new management after a period of being managed by some of the local village residents. Due to work & family commitments, Ive never really had the opportunity to spend as much time as Id normally do.

Lovely lay out and very friendly staff.

Popped in here after the scare crow Trail. Found the people behind the bar very welcoming . Would recommend. And will be back for food and drinks.
