I live locally and have eaten and had drinks at the Rising Sun a few times since it was taken over by Fullers. The food is ok. It's so much better than it was prior to takeover but comes with a hefty price tag. In my opinion the quality of the food does not match the cost. I had the 2 course lunch recently: the terrine was tasty but the bread had not been toasted properly. The main course of beef Ragu and pasta was really disappointing. It was a bit of a sloppy mess and not worth the cost at all. The steak I had on another visit was good but for the same cost I'd get better elsewhere. Drinks are pretty good and a decent choice. Again, approximately £7-8 for a pint seems ridiculously high. Service is generally good. The atmosphere is ok and fairly good at weekends. Overall I don't think I could recommend the Rising Sun. If you want good food, good drinks or good atmosphere then there are other better pubs and restaurants locally. One positive is it has a good garden and play area for kids.

Rude front of house, who was snappy with us because we had dogs with us (website says dogs allowed) and because we wanted to eat outside and she felt that it was too cold. Rude manager who very loudly asked for my daughter’s I.d. When I explained she’s 16 and she’s having a small glass of wine with her meal (which is legal), informed loudly and rudely that it was the pub’s policy that you had to be 18 and over, even when eating. Food expensive and not well cooked. Undercooked potatoes, half a small carrot, a few peas and cabbage and small nut roast for over £20. When we complained to the manager about the rudeness and how we were having a family meal celebrating a birthday, we were informed in a rude manner that we should have checked the pub policy, when actually we know the law and if the pub policy is different that needs to be stated to customers, not the onus being on the customer, also a complete lack of understanding that there is a way to speak to your customers and actually had both members of staff spoke in a polite manner and not loudly in front of all other diners then there wouldn’t have been an issue. Really disappointed, ruined the main part of the birthday and wish we had decided to go elsewhere.

If you are out in the New Forest, this is a good pub to visit. This is the one with a huge beer garden, kids play area and a few horses. The choice of drinks was very good. Food was really good, i had a roast. And the staff are all running around to make sure everyone is okay. It can get busy sometimes but there are almost always seats because of the size of the outside.

We had a lovely Bank Holiday afternoon at The Rising Sun. The welcome was friendly and the service was great, a special mention to Sally, who looked after us! They have three areas that you can sit, the restaurant and have table service, or the lovely garden with large playground or in the bar area. If you choose the garden or bar you need to order your food at the bar, the restaurant is table service. There is also an opportunity to have pizzas cooked from their outside pizza oven! The menu was good. I only gave four stars for food as we thought the burger was a little over priced! As you see from my previous posts my son does like his burgers! The fish & scampi were delicious 😋

We sat outside and had lunch here as a group of four adults, one child and two dogs. There's plenty of seating with or without sunshade umbrellas, plus outdoor pods if it's showery. The seating is close to the kids play area so parents can relax while kids are entertained. The food we had was good quality, fairly priced for the quality, well presented and very tasty. We all had soft drinks so can't comment on the beer quality. I would definitely return to this pub.

Popped in for a drink, only one member of staff (a red headed young gentleman)was switched on. I’ve never seen a more lack luster couldn’t be bothered approach in a pub ever. The female staff members have zero spatial awareness or manners and the older ones in the restaurant couldn’t have been ruder over a menu, this meant we chose not to eat there and left immediately. I won’t be going back and this one of a few locals for me. Terrible for a Fullers pub. Will make sure to warn family and friends.

We have decided to come to The Rising Sun for lunch as it has nice reviews and we can say the same. It is situated in the New Forest by itself with a large car park. The building is huge and pretty as the outside space with a space for the children to play and different ambience where to eat. Inside it is a formal and an informal room, the restaurant or the pub and outside there are different levels and terraced floors with tables and chairs. You can choose to be by the shade, under a tree or anywhere about. The food is ordered at the till and they promptly serve the food. There are lots of waitresses and the service is very good. We ordered a Sunday roast and it was very nice. We really enjoyed it. Fresh vegetables and no frying food. The portion was good and the flavour excellent. We also ordered a starter of pate which came with just one slice of bread and I think for the price, one more slice would be better. We just had coke to drink, it was a large glass served with ice. A very relaxing place full of people but everyone was enjoying their time there.

Our first visit back to the Rising Sun since its refurb - what a difference! It looks great inside and out and the food has really improved. It was a bit quiet for a Saturday evening at 8pm - only reason for 4 stars for atmosphere. Food was excellent pub grub - best chips in a long time, haddock beautifully crisp and not greasy. Husband and his mum really enjoyed their pork chop mains - succulent and tasty. Great to have a local pub that we can walk to and know we're going to have great food, a warm welcome and friendly service.

Came here with a friend tonight and we were shocked by how outrageously expensive all the food was! We figured perhaps it's justified by big portions. No. The Indian Salad with halloumi came in a TINY cereal bowl that was difficult to eat out of. At first, I thought it was just a side salad bowl to go with my friend's pork chop main, but it wasn't! £17.50 for a miniscule bowl of quinoa and a brick of halloumi that was very difficult to cut up in such a tiny bowl. My friend's "pork chops" came with just one tiny pork chop and half of it was fat that needed to be cut off anyway. We had to wait 45 for our two tiny main courses to come out. The table beside us (2 people) were waiting well over an hour for theirs, and they were complaining. We listened to the manager who had to come out and was trying to apologise. While the waiting staff were friendly, they didn't take away the extra glasses when we ordered our drinks so we had no space at all on our tiny table, and it was a 30 minute wait for the table to be cleared after our mains - staff were avoiding our corner, not even looking over at us. Eventually we had to collar a waitress who was taking an order from the table next to us. The wait staff seemed stressed and flustered, so I wonder if they were understaffed, or if there were other issues going on behind the scenes. We ordered desserts because we were still hungry after our tiny mains. The one I wanted was out - the staff didn't seem to know what was on or off the menu because there was some sort of "miscommunication" going on between the kitchen, wait staff and manager. The cookie sandwich was disappointing - two very hard tiny cookies squishing a scoop of ice cream, with a spoon to eat it. Well it was very difficult to cut it up with a spoon to eat, as the cookie was so hard. Would have been better if they used a soft style cookie for this type of dessert, and bigger! I had the sticky toffee pudding which was OK. Sadly, we will not be returning after this experience. While the refurb looks nice, it's simply far too overpriced, and the wait times were awful. The place seems poorly managed. Very disappointing, because this was my favourite family pub growing up.

We were recently down that way for a week and pipped in here for a drink, and let our grandson play in the play are, as we had seen it when we passed previously. Very large outdoor seating area, with a variety of styles of patio tables along with half a dozen or so pods. They had just started their pizza oven, so we decided to try them. The Rising Sun has had a refurb in harmony with the New forest surrounding it. It looks good. There are now pods and pizza ovens outside, great for a summer's evening. It has a large car park and there is a good kids play area. The menu is typical pub chain. My poor food score is because my steak arrived cold as was the mushroom. But beware they want you to tip now just for bringing you a plate out from the kitchen!! We've been visiting the Rising Sun for years because we always know the food and atmosphere will be really good plus we can bring our dog in with us. As we walk regularly in the Forest, we eat here very often. We've had a busy year this year however and hadn't visited for a while so we were looking forward to Sunday lunch after a walk. The food and staff didn't disappoint but I was really angry the card machine now asks if I want to leave a tip and offers suggested amounts!! I mean come on, I order the food and drinks at the bar myself, collect my own cutlery and your staff just carry a couple of plates to the table. If I go anywhere with proper table service and it's good, I will tip, but not for this. I wonder if it's because they aren't increasing staff wages and are expecting customers to supplement them? Won't visit again because it's being expected.

AMAZING! If you have an allergy please come eat here! They don’t have those silly allergy menus but instead their own separate dairy, gluten exc menus so you feel included in the meal instead of being that one person scanning through each item in that silly flip book! Food is also super fresh and tastes 10/10. Constantly changing their menus and have beautiful views if you can grab a window seat!

We had gone for a roast dinner with my 1.5 year old daughter, which was a lovely roast. Unfortunately at the end of our lunch my daughter was finishing her peas when she started to choke on them. I could not thank your employee Josh enough for his help. He came straight over the second he realised something was wrong and offered his help right away. He then called an ambulance and stayed with us until he left, constantly checking on us and offering to get things for us. Thank you so much Josh for helping us in that scary moment and I hope his efforts will be appreciated.
