Visited yesterday for Sunday Lunch. What can I say the staff were absolutely amazing. Queue for the bar was out of the door, even though I'm sure it was stressful, the bar staff were calm, helpful and friendly to every single customer. They were patient and efficient too, it seemed to be a very well-run bar and restaurant. Our food was gorgeous, I had nachos and roast turkey and the portions were generous and great quality. We visit every time we are in the New Forest and absolutely love it.

Great little pub as you see from the photos staff and service delightful. Would recommend if you go to new forest. 10 out 10.

Free car park and cold drinks 🍻 what's not to love! Was so hot when we visited at the start of the summer holidays, and it was right around the corner from where we were staying and it was great. We went on our first night stay, dinner and drinks after a long day of exploring the new forest was perfect! 🙏👍

Really nice pub. Great menu for adults, we came twice. First time couldn't fault it although no one directed us to the specials boards so we could not order off them. But otherwise really tasty, son had the pizza it looked really good, we had burgers there excellent choice and good variety of toppings. Second time ordered off the specials my wife offered a chicken and bacon gnocchi that was great I ordered steak. It was awful, overcooked and tough, I should have complained but couldn't be bothered. Otherwise all good

A very good pub by the countryside, lots of seating and a good selection of food and drinks. When we were getting seated, a server took the order from an adjacent table. After a few moments, another server came and asked them if they needed something, but still didn't quite turn to our table. When I called out and asked her if I can order, she said "yes?" as if it wasn't a natural thing to do. This left a bitter taste in the mouth which I couldn't spit out entirely. But the food was decent and so were other members of the staff. All said, a good place.

Came on a Saturday and Sunday for lunch and the service was brilliant and the food even better, also the donkeys and horses

We were staying in the area and came across this place so decided to book for a Sunday roast. The portions was huge and we all really enjoyed it and I don't normally like roasts which are not home cooked! Loads of meat which was all lovely no gammy bits and the veg was lovely- honestly so pleased we came! Some of our table has paninis chips etc and again huge portions and they all really enjoyed! Xx

Gorgeous pub within the New Forest - Lovely home cooked food - very generous portions (especially the ribs!) - nice friendly staff and of course the local friendly wildlife - would highly recommend

A great place to have good standard pub food. Nothing fancy, Just tasty plain fare. The donkeys and ponies hanging around outside the garden fence are always a delight.

Lovely pub dinner on a Sunday, the pub was very busy and service was slightly impacted by this, but the staff were still very friendly. We will be visiting again.

A definite return visit is in order. Great roasts, lovely staff, great atmosphere.

Excellent food, very good service

Lovely looking pub from the outside but it's really let down inside. Dirty chairs, dirty walls and dirty glasses. Ordered a panini which had very little filling and the side salad was honestly pathetic.

Only thing is £19 for two drinks!!!!

Very busy when we visited for a Sunday lunch. The food was really not very nice. Potatoes over cooked and dehydrated inside. Meat was passible but not as it should have been. Some of the vegetables were undercooked, and although we both had the same meal, they varied in portion size.

Lovely pub, outside play area for the kids. Great cider on tap and very good roast dinners. Also the puddings are very big portions, very tasty.

Had a birthday meal tonight for my wife absolutely fantastic service. The food was outstanding .thankyou to all staff

Fantastic experience. Incredible tasty and large portioned food. Plenty of choice for any taste and dietary requirements. Highly recommended if staying nearby as this is the best food around for miles!

No frills, English country pub. Very impressive portion size for the Sunday roast dinner. Bravo chaps.

Fantastic food, with friendly atmosphere. The range of the menu was wider than your standard 'pub grub'. The portions were generous and very tasty. I am looking forward to returning and choosing other items.

What a lovely little pub. Food was amazing and large portions. Staff were really lovely and accommodating. We loved our visit to this New Forest pub where the donkeys seem to live right outside the pub !

Really lovely home cooked food in huge portions sizes! We weren't sure what to expect given this was the only pub within walking distance, but honestly they must have a very good home cook in that kitchen. Service was great too, and very friendly. Highly recommend!

It's in a prime spot, and was a welcome end to our walk on a hot day. Nothing incredible, but nice enough. Beers I felt were quite pricey, but then I am from up North!

Food was great quality, large portins and service very efficient. Only niggle was around allergen awareness. Advised and ordered specific dish for toddler with allergens and given the wrong dish when another server then bought the correct dish out (after little one had started eating)

Gorgoues food,great service, lovely setting and atmosphere

We had Sunday lunch here on 9/6/24 while on a family holiday. The amount of times we have been past & always said we must pop in there! So, while we were staying just across the road, we did. It didn't dissapoint. The portions were big, food was hot. It was that good we went back on the Thursday evening for dinner. Again, food was hot, portions were big. Service was outstanding & staff polite. Definitely be coming back

We had a wonderful meal at The Fighting Cocks Pub; the atmosphere and service was exceptional ! We would thoroughly recommend a visit if in the New Forest (Fordingbridge)!

Visited today as we left Sandy Balls a nearby holiday park and wanted to grab a drink and possibly food. I was accompanied by 4 people with disabilities. The pub is in an amazing location with wild animals at every turn, pub accessible, clean, and well maintained. We arrived a little before 11.30, so we we had some drinks and decided if we wanted to have food when they started serving (I'm glad we stayed). Staff member Linda extremely helpful, kind and patient with our situation. The food was amazing, I had the ham, egg, and chips. Paying separately for each individual person and getting a receipt was well taken and easy (some places get annoyed). I highly recommend this pub to anyone who may be in the area. It's worth the money and the time.

The chef is delusional charging these prices for the food that was being served with a huge wait time. £6 for "garlic chiabatta" - under cooked shop bought part baked baguette. £11 for "nachos" - again, shop bought basic crisps, one dollop of lumpy sour cream, sparse cheese. £13 for 2 pints.

Lovely pub with horse wondering around outside. Food was varied and all very nice worth a walk down if you are staying at Sandy balls only took about 10 mins

We were a big table of 10 with small children- we were asked to preorder and our food was brought out within minutes of us being seated. Friendly, very efficient and organised staff, generous portions and really tasty food. Highly recommend for family groups - best lunch we’ve had for ages!

FOOD POISONING So me and my Familey went here once and i honesly wish i took a picture of my steak i ask for it rare and it came more well done than a bit of charcoal! Then my Familey thought it was good so we came back 2 days later and i order the burger it was a bit burn but eatable and dessert was actully really nice sticky toffee and i was going to give a 2 to 3 stars but then when i went home my brother throw up couple of hours later and was very ill from food poisoning from the skinfish! Fish was terrible cod and skin fish i try a bit just they cant cook! They cant look streak or fish! Stroganoff actully was ok ! Here a picture of the burger from day two

Sadly the food here has taken a turn for the worse. Top dollar prices and poor quality food makes me an unhappy camper. On the plus side the ale was good.

We popped in for dinner on Friday night and had cheese and pickle in a warm baguette, chips and a lovely dressed salad. Really tasty and good value. It was so good we went back Sunday lunchtime and had this again.

Had loads of meals here can't fault the food, and what a lovely setting on the edge of the new forest.

Guinness Zero £5.95 & warm. Bar staff more interested in their mobile phones, lobbing bar mats about & flicking each other with bar towels. Very poor.

We had some nice afternoon sun with our meal! Shame the chips and onion rings tasted like they were from frozen, and didn't taste like freshly made gravy. Would of expected given the price point! Tasty steak and sausages though.

We stopped at The Fighting Cocks with my wife and son and dog. The pub is ideally located for walks around Ashley Range or to relax after watching a match at Godshill cricket club. We arrived quite late in the evening, past 8:30, and were pleased to find that the kitchen was still open. The food was good and quickly served, we sat outside although the staff did advise that well behaved dogs were allowed inside the dining area. If we are traveling this way again I would definitely stop for food and drink.

Came here when staying at Sandyballs holiday village, 2 minutes up the road, who had let us down with our restaurant booking. The staff at The Fighting Cocks couldn't have done enough for us. All of them were cheerful, from the girl who answered the phone and took our last minute booking, to the staff at the pub itself. Great traditional pub food, including pizza, awesome burgers, roasts and curries, quickly served, which my family loved. Dog friendly too and they even provided water and a sausage for our dog! We were so impressed by the service ,atmosphere and food that we came back with our friends the following day. The staff were still as cheery and helpful and the food served quickly and together, despite there being a large party of us. This was a really great experience and we wouldn't hesitate to come back again. Highly recommend.

What a fantastic place to stop Donkeys and ponies everywhere and the food and service were excellent Just be warned if you order a starter you might not finish the main.

Friendly staff. Amazing food. Salty gnocchi, slightly soggy burger but a clearly imaginative chef with a commitment to originality. Great view at the edge of wild horses in New Forest.

Service was excellent, prompt and friendly. We both had liver and bacon. It was absolutely delicious: really well cooked and served with lovely greens and bubble and squeak. The gravy was fab! All in all, highly recommended.

What a lovely pub. Friendly staff who really enjoyed looking people. The food was tasty and plentiful. The prices were good also. As we are on holiday it was so nice to find this place and be taken care of so well.

Sadly gone down hill, been taken over by a pub chain and it shows. Lack of heart and feeling that there once was. Food is average at best, not really worth the price. Staff however are amazing, do their best to help, location is beautiful

The ambiance of this pub is absolutely wonderful. With vintage posters adorning the walls and antique furniture throughout, every detail has been thoughtfully selected to make guests feel right at home. The lighting is perfect, creating a cozy atmosphere, and there are plenty of comfortable seating choices available.

I only went in for a cappuccino. At the time, it was quiet, but you could feel the great welcome in the atmosphere, I would look forward to going at a busier time and trying the food, which looked good.

Amazing food staff are wonderful so helpful and nothing is a problem for them It's a lovely place and we have been a few times now and will always return

Would love to know how you justify your prices on food !! We live in Sidmouth and your menu is 25% more expensive . Worst of all the food just doesn’t cut it . If it was outstanding then fair enough but not when vegetables are served flavourless , all tasting like cabbage water and pizzas with barely any topping I know hospitality have had a tuff time but you are taking the P with what your provide for the money . £18-£20 main course Deserts £10 The staff were very pleasant, let down by poor food

Recommended by Sandra at the National Dog Training Academy. The burger was awesome and it was the first time our dog has ever been in a pub and it was lovely that he was bought over a bowl of water and we were super proud that he was on his best behaviour (not reacting to another dog that barked at him)

Very rude staff. Money gets thrown onto the bar, literally, no smiles, no welcome, no please or thank you! Just rude and unpleasant! Wont be going back again. Run down can do with some paint too. Just pleased we only had a drink. A real shame cos it could be a great place at a good location.

Under new management and wow what a difference! The most fabulous varied menu of HOME COOKED food. Caters well for light bites and vegetarian/vegan as well as traditional meals. Pub food usually leaves me unimpressed but a rare occasion where the opposite is true. Outstanding. Please keep your high standards, I will be back, and believe me that’s high praise indeed.

I went here today with my wife, although It was very busy the very polite staff managed to squeeze us in with no fuss. The atmosphere was really nice and ‘traditional pub like’, the ale and fruit cider was amazing and fresh, and the food was generous portions and delicious. Overall an amazing place and we will be back with the kids later in the year as it also has an outside play park and is dog friendly. Thank you to the staff for being really cheery too.. makes a difference to some miserable places we have been lately. O and the parking was plentiful!

Went for my partners birthday and they were amazing gave him a card, put banners out next to the table was so lovely to see a pub who took time and effort for customers! Food was unbelievable and massive portions for the money! Staff were very friendly and welcoming Will 1000% go back! Thank you to all the staff for making the night special for us!

Swung past here on a Monday afternoon and had the most wonderful experience. Lovely pub and the most amazing food. What was going to be lunch turned into a 3 course meal. Mackerel pate to start, amazing portion and gorgeous. Fish and chips for main and wow. Chips perfectly cooked and a piece of haddock the size of the Isle of Wight. Cooked fresh with the most amazing crispy batter. Stuffed and was going to skip a pudding until offered the chef's cheesecake which was white chocolate and raspberry. Quite frankly the best pudding I've ever had anywhere Over ate but don't care as food was amazing. Everything home cooked and stunning. Can't wait to go back.

Our elderly friend had the beef cobbler, which he loved, my husband had ham, egg&chips which was OK, I had the burger in a bun, the burger was cold, so I left it but eat the roll & chips. Thought expensive for what was served, we won't return. The young man who served us was nice and friendly.
