Thanks to Chris, his staff & 'the locals' for making us welcome on our Motorhome pubstopover. I had messaged prior to visiting, to ask if it was OK to park up and was welcomed, just asked to eat & drink in the pub. Chris has only recently taken over and started food, currently a very limited menu but good portions and well cooked. No facilities except toilets when open, but we are self sufficient so not an issue. Thanks, Tim Sue n Bailey 🐾

A really friendly welcome and a nicely prepared chicken dinner for me. I had telephoned before as I had had a variety of openclosed comments partly because of dodgy previous websites.. I need not have worried, splendid family atmosphere.

Visited today for lunch. New Landlord very welcoming, our meals were very nice, tasty, generous portions, food was hot and condiments were available. Very good value. The garden was clean and tidy and welcomed dogs. Really nice to see The Rising Sun up and running again and wish Chris and Haleigh every success. We will be back again soon, thank you.

We were off for a few days, so popped in for lunch in-between jobs in the garden. My wife had the meat ploughman's, which she thoroughly enjoyed, while I went for the healthier option of sausage, egg, beans and chips :) . The sausages were excellent, and the homemade chips totally pukka! Chris and Hayley provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Oh, and they don't mind motorcycles...nice one guys!

We've been coming to the Rising Sun quite often, and I originally reviewed it here on Trip Advisor back when the previous landlady Sarah was running it, before the lockdowns happened. The pub is now run by a lovely Irish couple, Chloe and Dean. From the first time we met them when the pub reopened after lockdown there's always been a warm friendly welcome, and that hasn't changed. They did a fantastic job in the post-lockdown Covid restrictions time, refurbishing the beer garden, adding lots more outdoor seating, brand new outdoor portacabin loos etc.Their food is consistently excellent - great quality, very tasty, decent portions, and never a long wait. Decent childrens options too. Well-kept beer range, including (at time of writing) San Miguel, Guiness, Thatchers, Carling, Abbot Ale, GK IPA, and a good range of bottled drinks. The pub is, as before, a beautiful, proper old-style village pub, and we'd happily recommend it.

We first visited this pub when we were looking to move into the area, and the landlady Sarah was happy to take time to chat with us about the area etc. We've since moved into the village, and have been to this pub quite a few times for lunches and carveries. We've always been made to feel welcome, Sarah and her staff are lovely, and the food has always been absolutely spot on - lovely carveries, perfectly cooked and generous portions, and the steak burger is genuinely one of the best I've had anywhere. The menu has a good selection of tasty classic pub meals, and a specials board too. I *must* get in for the steak night one Wednesday! The pub is child-friendly, our children have taken a major shine to Sarah, and she's excellent with them, taking time to talk to them and making them feel special. Sarah and her team (including Faith and Cathy) are all very friendly and make us feel very welcome and like nothing is too much trouble.

We came with friends for a Sunday carvery. We received a warm welcome, ordered and were served drinks right away. As it was relatively early there was a slight delay before the carvery was ready. I opted for beef and was put off when the meat squeaked during carving. The same was true for the pork. The potatoes were very nice, however, the rest of the veg was overcooked. All in all, the taste was good but the quality of the meat and it’s preparation left us slightly disappointed. We liked the venue and will return to have an evening meal or weekday lunch to try that and I’m sure it will be nice. Carvery is just not for us here.

Bit confused about the most recent review and tbh that did put me off a bit as we were travelling for leisure at the weekend in a 3 tonne white van rather than my car. However turned up last night at this pub in the van and zero issue what so ever ! Nobody came out and accused us of being Gypsies as we were in a van ! Anyway this is just a typical quiet local serving very reasonably priced wholesome food and my favourite beer on draft which is always a plus point. Would visit here again

Just had the pleasure of Sunday Lunch at The Rising Sun. I went with three family members and we were all in total agreement at giving this an excellent review . From being greeted and assisted with wheelchair access to been shown our seats and our drinks orders being taken to a smooth transition to cavery lunch (no queueing) to ending with a great choice of Olde English deserts it made for a rather enjoyable afternoon . The food was all fresh and home cooked with an excellent choice of hand carved joints . The piece de resistance were the roast potatoes ..wow and then some. ..Now on to the staff , Tommy the Bar manager was welcoming and extremely professional and helpful our waitress was charming and very attentive without being fussy and made each course a pleasure . Finally a big thank you to the Kitchen staff and the Landlady who showed us to the Cavery and gave us a great choice on meats and made the whole process effortless . I and the rest of the family look forward to returning soon

We visited this pub with friends for a meal. The landlady recognised us from our previous visit and welcomed us with warmth. The menu is new to match the total redecoration if this 200yr old pub. The food was ok but we felt a little overpriced for what was still pub grub. I had steak and ale pie with mash, buttered cabbage and bacon. The pie was a stew with a flaky pastry lid!!! The buttered cabbage was boiled cabbage with a dollop of butter in the top. Having said that it was very tasty and plenty of it. Would recommend the pub.

Thought we would give a local pub a try and what an eye opener on how not to run a pub.We had homemade pie, really couldn't find the meat but there was plenty of mash, cabbage and peas but not worth the money. But what really topped off the evening was the full scale argument between the two ladies behind the bar, slamming of plates and shouting at the top of their lungs. People around the bar made a joke of the situation, even trying to shout through to the kitchen that we wanted to pay. All in all not worth £28.00 to hear two women shout and scream.
