Zara was very attentive when we went along to arrange the wake for my Mum’s funeral, we were told the buffet food would be laid out on the dining tables with white table cloths. However, on the day, the food was on two coffee tables, one each side of the main lounge in front of sofas. Just placed on the wooden coffee tables with plates the size of saucers for guests to use. I noticed as soon as we walked in and was told by Zara that the room with the dining tables was now booked for an evening function, we were there in the middle of the afternoon!! And in addition, she wasn’t upholding what we were promised. I paid for 35 guests, but there were actually only 31, I actually felt embarrassed as it looked like we had only provided a snack rather than a proper buffet and considering some guests had travelled a long way. At the end, there was no food left except for a part of a sponge cake and quite a few had not eaten anything at all !! So £523 for 2 coffee tables of food !!! In addition, getting a but of tin foil or cling film to wrap the cake was like pulling teeth, it was like I had to beg for it, I know there have been a lot of good reviews on here, but I did read one about food on coffee tables before we booked, and I ignored it, really wish I hadn’t. I did email Zara the following week about my dissatisfaction, but was told I should have said something on the day, well for one, I was so emotional, this was the day of my Mum’s funeral, and also, having a complaint on that day even if I were up to it, what would it have achieved ? I honestly felt that a decent refund would have been offered, I didn’t request it, but the offer was a free lunch ! SERIOUSLY, no thank you, if I had been of clear mind that day I would have taken a photo, re the food, nothing special

We held the wake for our brother here. It was absolutely perfect. It is easy to find from the local crematorium. When we got there we were warmly welcomed by the landlady and her wonderful team. When we met to arrange the wake we were given options to personalise our buffet choices and were told that we would have the full restaurant to ourselves which on the day, we did. The buffet was absolutely top quality. The sandwiches were amazing and the home made cakes were to die for. Can not recommend this place enough. Only wish I could remember the landlady’s name. But thankyou from the bottom on my heart for helping us give my brother the send off he deserved.

I attended a wake yesterday and the food was lovely, with a very good range of cold buffet food - all of which was of good quality. Home-baked scones and cake were also served, which were very tasty. This is a charming little pub and I only wish I lived closer by as it would become a regular destination for dining and drinking.

Amazing Sunday dinner. A huge selection of vegetables cooked to perfection served in a terrine, which we all loved to be able to choose from them all! The mashed potato was perfect and the gravy was a real homemade beef gravy. Between us all we had every meat and we certainly couldn’t complain- it was delicious. A dessert board came to the table and we couldn’t resist once we saw the options. Lovely homemade traditional desserts severed beautifully. The staff were all attentive and welcoming and the decor was beautiful. With warm coal fires and lovely sofas for before and after our meal which meant we could all spend longer together without being in the dining room holding others up. We will definitely be returning and we will highly recommend to anyone looking for a real home cooked Sunday lunch!

We stumbled across The Crown Inn purely by chance,we checked if we we could be accommodated for as we hadn’t booked ,we were made most welcome,we ordered drinks and sat in the lounge area nearby the real fire, we were shortly asked which meats we would like for our Sunday roast and shown to our table, our meals followed quickly, firstly served with our meat, roast potatoes and stuffing, which was followed by the best selection of vegetables we could have asked for, we have never had so many to choose from,Everything was homemade and the gravy was to die for, during the meal we were checking upon by the friendly staff, we opted for desserts, all of which were homemade.Everyone thoroughly enjoyed both courses and we were made to feel most welcome,I can highly recommend that you try the wonderful homemade food served here with friendly staff .

Visited today after seeing a post on FB that they had started their Sunday lunch. When we arrived the outside looked lovely with the hanging baskets. Upon arrival we walked in to the bar we was met with a nice friendly welcome. We got our drinks and sat in the lounge area by a very welcoming fire and beautiful comfy sofas. The waitress came over to take our order we all ordered lamb after the lady told us what meat was on. After about 15 mins we was taken to our table. The restaurant was spotless and it was very nice to see linen on the tables. The food arrived within 10 mins. Plates was nice and warm. The food was amazing plenty of meat with Yorkshire, stuffing, parsnip and roasts. Then in a terrine came what could only be the most choice of veg I have ever seen I counted 9 altogether and cooked to perfection and very tasty and fresh. Everyone had plenty. We asked for extra gravy which was brought to us straight away. Witching 5 mins we had had a check back to make sure we was ok. The food itself was very tasty the meat was perfectly cooked and everything was homemade. Once we had finished we then went back to sit in the lounge. We would have stayed longer as we felt very comfortable but had to get home. I would say that I was slightly confused as we was not given a menu to choose our starters (perhaps as they move forward this will come as it was the first time) they was having problems with the card machine (not their fault) so could only except cash it would’ve been better if they told us this at the beginning but it really wasn’t a problem for us. I would highly recommend The Crown food amazing staff great we will certainly be coming back. Well done to all

Popped in here on the off chance for Sunday lunch, they could fit us in if we didn't mind a short wait. We ordered a couple of drinks and sat in the very welcoming lounge area beside a lovely real fire. The pub is beautifully decorated for Christmas and is very pleasant. After a short wait our order was taken and then a little while later we were shown to our table in the restaurant area. I ordered lamb and my husband had the chicken. When the plates arrived laden with meat and potatoes, we were pleasantly surprised at the size of the portions, then more dishes arrived with an enormous selection of vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy. All delicious and beautifully cooked. We both opted for trifle for dessert which was also delicious. The total cost including drinks was about £60 which we felt was good value for the amount of food served. Considering we have never been here before we were very pleased we had decided to chance it and will definitely be returning.

First time under current ownership and am pleased to say we have another fine dining pub in Surfleet just outside Spalding. The little snug area is delightful, comfortable settees and felt very cosy indeed. We were seen to our table in the dining room by very pleasant staff after placing the food order, once seated we were served with freshly cooked food of a good quality, lots of veggies etc and all 8 of us all had clean plates, we were then offered puddings and yet again all clean plates back to the kitchen, would we go back again? In a flash, oh and very reasonably priced to ! Well done the crown, but don’t forget ‘book first’ Ken Challans

I came to Surfleet early for a funeral and noticed the doors were open on a sad but beautiful day. I was greeting with a beaming smile from a lovely woman by the name of Zara. She welcomed me in with the warmth of member of the family. As the heat was warming me to a slight sweat, I was cooled by the calming voice and bright smile "What can I get for you today my love" It was as comforting as being tucked into bed when I was young, full of cold, by my mum. To say this is an overstatement is unkind. For I was not feeling very conversational nor wanting to be embraced by anyone. But it was impossible not to be swept up in a sense of feeling like a regular in a place I've never been to before. An open fire place, though too hot to be lit up, a dining area and comfortable seating. An outside seating area for a day like today was perfect. The decor had me reminiscing of a pub I've been to before, but I've never stepped foot in there. They have a collection of Largers, ciders, Guinness, ales and spirits. The menu looked amazing, I wish I had time to try it out but I was a busy bee today. So I will be back, with my children or maybe to take a date where they'd feel as comfortable as I did on what is sure to be a very sad and emotional day.

‘No problem’. It was just after 2 on a wet horrible Sunday afternoon, we had stopped at the Crown in the vague hope of having lunch. Mine host leaned over the bar and simply said ‘no problem’.We ordered drinks and went over to the open, roaring fire and sat on a settee chatting whilst we waited. Our host arrived to sit with us after a few minutes and simply asked ‘Beef, Pork or Chicken’ and then asked if we were minded to wait about 15 minutes before the food was ready. It was my turned to say ‘no problem’; we had survived thus far without food another 15 minutes without would not result in death by starvation. We sat back and relaxed, the fire burnt, the lights twinkled off the decorations, we sipped and chatted, the world was good and outside the rain fell and it was bad.A delightful young lady appeared and asked if she could show us to our table, beautifully laid with white linen over blue and set with silverware. A few minutes later she reappeared with food, in fact lots of food, indeed in such quantities that proved a match for we two, hungry travellers. Good and wholesome, hot and tasty, the clichés rolled off our tongues not unlike a football leaving Alexander-Arnolds foot, smooth and sweet (a football similarly for those non followers). We didn’t need little wire baskets, or separate dishes for the typical do-it-yourself type meal that current gastro pubs seem to deem essential, we ate off plates, warm plates with hot food on them served with a smile and at a well laid table. It’s the basic things done well that define, and this pub did everything well. The atmosphere is relaxed, the warmth from staff, host and fire, and at a price which wont cripple. We will most certainly be visiting again

On Saturday afternoon we waited with another couple at the bar area for twenty minutes to be served a gin & tonic. I had my tiny papillon dog tucked under my arm & we chatted amiably for this time as the staff rushed by with platefuls of roast dinners for the dining room as the staff apologised & said they would be with us soon. At last a member of staff served up two gin & tonics, just as we were about to pay a woman came steaming out of the kitchen, glaring at the little dog under my arm & told us that we couldn't have a drink there as;'people is eating' !!! The bar area is well away from the dining room & the other bar staff were happy for us to be there, so we were nonplussed. We made a hasty retreat to the Ship Inn at Pinchbeck where we received two g&ts; a lovely warm welcome, a logburner & improved decor.

Went to the crown for Sunday lunch my mother. Although we did not book they managed to find a table for us 30 minutes after arriving. Really spacious and comfortable sofas and armchairs to sit on while we waited. It felt like a lounge rather than a bar and relaxing. The lunch was really good with tender roast beef and eight different vegetables in addition to roast potatoes and new potatoes _ the plate was huge. Good selection of desserts with a choice of 3 different cheesecakes and 3 different hot sponge puddings with additional rice pudding, waffles, gateau and ice cream. Will definitely return again when visiting Spalding.

Came here for a dinner and catch up with my mum. Really lovely staff who will go out of their way to serve you. We had a delicious main- the homemade chips and new potatoes were heavenly. Dessert was then equally gorgeous.

This is a bit quirky, very welcoming and the staff are great. The food is very much traditional home cooked food, and it is very good indeed. They offered no starters, so it’s straight into the mains, three of us enjoyed steaks, which were excellent, with plenty of veg, salad, mushrooms, gluten free onion rings. For dessert I went for rice pudding, very unusual to be offered this in a restaurant. It took straight back to my childhood. If you like traditional English food in a homely environment, you will love this place.

The best Sunday roast in this area, 12+ different vegetables, roast and new potatoes, homemade Yorkshire puddings, plate covered with your choice of meat and extra gravy, served hot, by friendly staff. Excellent.

The missus and I fancied a venture out of nearby Peterborough for the afternoon. We happened to find a small village called surfleet, never even heard of it! But we found a cosy pub with very welcoming staff. The food was delicious and thankfully no lumps in the gravy (always a winner) will be returning again!!

Overcooked dry steaks and burgers. "Well done" steaks were black outside raw inside. Burgers were close to being charcoal. Food not up to normal excellent standards.

Stayed here for 3 nights whilst working in the area.. what a beautiful place. The Mash Tun room was quirky with everything you could possibly need including a tranquil garden to the rear. The bluebell inn has a proper country pub vibe, amazing food and the lovely family that run it really make you feel welcome. Can only wish my stay was longer!

Runways cafe is a little gem. Took my daughter on a trip in a chipmunk at the airfield and stopped to have Sunday lunch at the airfield cafe. Lovely hot food which is a first for us with a carvery. The staff were friendly and helpful. Very clean and had a lovely atmosphere. The food was lovely, and the beef just melted in the mouth. Hats off to the chef. Extra points you can watch the plans from the cafe

Love rumblings for a traditional filling English breakfast but they have other great things on offer as well as really nice takeaway rolls and sandwiches. Very friendly staff and great value for money overall

I'm not a local, but whenever I'm in the area I make a beeline for Turner's! Fantastic battered plaice fillet with chips and mushy peas, a bread roll and a cuppa tea. The fish was fresh, hot and very tasty with nicely browned chips and sweet mushy peas. A lovely soft roll with butter made for a lovely chip butty. Good portion size, plenty for a normal appetite. A fresh brew to wash it down. Very clean inside and attentive service. The carrot cake was also delicious. Yum yum 😋
