I have eaten many times at the Rising Sun and generally it has been ok. Last night however was different. I ordered 2 starters rather than a main meal. Olives with mixed breads and olive oil and balsamic vinegar as one and Buffalo Chicken wings as the other. The olives arrived in a small pot that held 10 olives, the bread was 4 small slices of a loaf and there was a pate of butter. That wasn't even on the menu. No Olive Oil, No Balsamic vinegar and No mixed bread. I asked for some Olive oil and balsamic and got a tiny pot with the balsamic, which was nearly solid, slopped over the side. Not great for £8.50. The Chicken was overly browned and undercooked, pink in places and the sauce was no more than a tea spoon. again, not great for £8.50 I have had both of these before many times and they have been so much better, but yesterday they were just awful sadly. I will go back, as it generally is better than that but it was a shame it was so poor last night.

Called in lunchtime for our Anniversary and took daughter and grandchildren, place was almost empty we ordered, waited over an hour for food, came out cold overcooked, pasta, chips and chicken burger all cold. We got up and left, paid for drinks, was shocked to be charged £3,30 for a child’s fruit shoot Total rip off will never recommend or visit again, total shame as we live in Clanfield also no where to change a baby, had to lay baby in sink

Booked a table online, taking a chance on a place to eat we had not eaten before. My wife and I were with another couple and had the following from the menu: Starters; 2x Ham Hock & Cheddar Croquette, Mustard Mayo. 1x Cajun Tiger Prawns, Asian Sauce, Mixed Leaves. 1x Nachos – Sour Cream, Guacamole, Salsa. Mains; 2x Slow Cooked Rack of Ribs, House Made Barbeque Sauce, Fries, Coleslaw (1x half & 1x full) 1x Quesadilla, Toasted Tortilla Wrap with Melted Cheddar, Onion and Peppers, with added Cajun Chicken 1x Cooked Venison Haunch Steak, Chive Mash, Seasonal Vegetables, Port Reduction, Berry Jus. The food was outstanding, all of our food pierced at the table hot and freshly cooked, flavour of all the dishes was fantastic. I had the venison dish and it was exquisite. Staff were very friendly and helpful, with table service and a good knowledge of the menu. We would all definitely return to this pub/restaurant. Food and drinks were reasonably priced.

I used to love spending my Sundays at this pub. It held a special place in my heart, especially on Mother’s Day when my children treated me to lunch there, knowing my fondness for its cuisine. However, my recent experiences have left me disheartened. During our Mother’s Day lunch, the service was severely lacking. Despite being attentive patrons, we were ignored throughout the meal, and our dessert was completely forgotten. When I brought this to the attention of a staff member, I was met with rudeness instead of understanding. The young lady's response was dismissive and unprofessional, a stark contrast to the hospitality I had previously experienced. I had hoped to discuss these issues with the Landlord, but his absence on subsequent visits was disappointing. My optimism waned further when, on another Sunday, we encountered similar service issues. The atmosphere was marred by a dispute between a bartender and a customer, preventing us from even ordering drinks. Although a young employee attempted to assist, the delays and lack of communication left us frustrated and ultimately led to our departure. It pains me to say that my once-beloved pub has failed to uphold its standards of service and hospitality. Despite my past affection for the establishment, I cannot overlook the repeated disappointments. Regrettably, I will not be returning.

Having heard many good reports of the pub we decided to try it for lunch. We appeared to be only the second or third group of customers to arrive. The pub is lovely inside and the staff, at first, were very pleasant. Drinks arrived quickly. We then waited over an hour for our food to arrive - a simple three sandwiches and an omelette. We could see people who arrived after us getting their food. We asked three times how long our food would be and each time we were told 'five minutes' or 'just coming'. The young waitress got quite uppity with us the second time we asked and said that the 'chef was stressed and as we were a big cover he might be getting the smaller ones out first'. After a third time of asking, the chap behind the bar went into the kitchen to investigate and we finally got our food one hour and 40 minutes after ordering it. As the group at the next table left, one lady commented that we had been far more patient that she would have been. After such a long wait it might perhaps have been nice for a discount to be offered, or even free drinks but no such gesture was forthcoming. It might well be that we just struck unlucky on a bad day, but it will make us think twice about eating there again.

Family meal celebrating a big birthday. Seated 10 of us no problem. Excellent service, lovely menu and food. Relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommended. Returned for another family meal, it just didn't feel the same as before. The menu was the same (I think) I ordered Nachos for starters, followed by ham, egg and chips. The wait time for food seemed ages, at least 40 minutes for the starter. The main meal was so salty, ended up drinking nearly a whole jug of water. It's a shame as we were all so looking forward to it after the previous time we visited, we came away a bit disappointed. Everything seemed a bit overcooked too. Do you think the food in the photo was worth nearly £13?? Update: Sunday Roast, had the gammon. It was yummy, but have to pre-book meal choices for larger parties.

Sadly, very disappointing! What's going on, has this pub changed hands ?. The staff were welcoming, and really lovely but very unorganised, and not enough of them. The food took forever to arrive and the so called triple cooked chips were anaemic and soggy. What a shame, because we usually love this place. The food quality has gone downhill in a big way. It'll be the Bat n Ball next time or until their chef learns how to cook chips at least. Saw the landlord, all he did was drink coffee while his staff battled on, tut tut

Poor. Six of us had been out walking, and arrived approx 12:15 midday. Three of us wanted coffee. It took the staff around 10 or 15 minutes to deliver the coffee to the table. The same thing happened last time we came in here after a walk, again around midday on a week day. They seem to be completely unable to provide coffee with a reasonable amount of time. In view of this, I'm not sure what service would be like if I decided to have a meal here. So, even if the food is good, they are ruling out potential clients by a lack of attention to detail with regard to occasional passing visitors. It's a shame, as this is my local pub.

We went for a birthday celebration of 12 people, and where confronted by an indifferent attitude by several teenage servers who obviously had more interest in their own entertainment than tending to the needs of their customers. three times the young lad managed to get the order wrong which meant the whole party ended up eating at different times than the others, and only reluctantly sauntered over to clear clear plates when repeatedly asked to do so. I have no idea what the Landlord was thinking of when he left a load of teenagers to run the pub in his absence, but we or any of our friends won't hurry back there, and we are villagers of long standing. Further more if you seek a decent meal and night out i suggest you try The Bat and Ball, - less than a mile away where the staff do all they can to make your meal an enjoyable experience

to cut a long story short> the food is crap. landlord had the balls to patronise my wife when she said my lamb is not cooked because there is lots of blood coming out of the middle and showed him by pressing her knife into the lamb. landlords answer was our customers like it that way or maybe its the gravy its cooked in . i had to ask my wife to leave because she was starting to kick off about the way she was treated.by the ignorance of the landlord once she made a comment about her lamb. 5 minutes or so after my wife had left the landlord reappeared from the back of the bar and offered me a free beer of which i refused. because of his attitude i can see why the place has died a death. he is more than welcome to the £20 for my wife's meal because he will need it more than me 1 day soon.

Very good Covid precautions. Great service and top notch pub grub. Actually pub grub does not do justice. Food very good. Waitress was masked, good one way system and overall very positive experience. Also very dog friendly.

My husband and I made our first visit to the Rising Sun. Both our waitress and the food were extremely good, keep up the good work, we will return. Very COVID safe.

Seven members of my family celebrated my Father's 96th birthday with a meal, excellent home cooked food and real ale at reasonable prices served by the lovely Liz.

I was turned away as they claimed nothing left, but happily served the person behind me just before closing time. The person like me had just arrived so CAMPBELLS REVIEW IS NOT CORRECT they need to red the review first

Remembering The Crown as a warm and welcoming quintessential village pub when when living in Headley some years before, we booked table for Saturday lunch at 2pm. With only another table of four, there was a bit of a wait for food. The real issue was that when we came to order dessert (2 x affrogato), we were told we needed to be quick because the pub would be closing in 5 minutes. Service was dour and unfriendly, food underwhelming and generally poor value for money. Such a shame!
