Enjoyed a family meal Monday 24th March, the food was all presented well and tasted great. Service was also good. Would recommend the Rising Sun to others

Stayed one night because it was convenient to Bristol airport for an early morning flight. It’s only a 12 minute drive to the car rental return. Arrived in time for dinner at the pub which was excellent and well priced. The hotel is clean and well maintained and the rooms are big enough for the night and don’t feel like an airport hotel. We had paid for the breakfast included option but didn’t have time before we had to leave in the morning so they packed us an excellent to go breakfast with some sandwiches and croissants.

Second visit and again Great food , great service and perfect for families . Our kids loved the playground outside

Unbearably warm last time we visited. Popular though. The food was hit and miss but another distracting element was the piped music which made conversation difficult. I would recommend avoiding the far corners for this reason

The Rising Sun has great value accommodation in an excellent location for south Bristol. I have stayed here twice and both times had nothing to moan amount! The team are really friendly. Food is excellent and great beers on tap too. Rooms are very comfortable and well equipped. Cant beat it for the nightly price that includes breakfast also (very good!). Will be back whenever I need to stay around the area.

Great over night stay with very efficient friendly staff. Food very good room lovely, big and comfy. Forgot to ask where you get your mattresses from as had a fantastic night's sleep. Great value for money would use again.

A Wonderful Stay with One Small Issue! We had an excellent stay—lovely rooms, brilliant service, and a warm welcome. Although we were only there for one night, we loved it from the moment we arrived. Unfortunately, we did have one issue. We stayed in Room 2, which we later realised is located above the kitchen. On Sunday morning at 7 AM, we were woken up by loud banging, cooking noises, conversation, and a TV playing at a high volume (it sounded like a film was on while breakfast was being prepared). The noise continued throughout the morning, which was frustrating. That said, our overall experience was very positive. The room was beautifully maintained, and the hospitality was excellent. We would happily stay again—just in a room further from the kitchen!

Met a friend for breakfast at the Rising Sun in Backwell. The menu choice was very good and the breakfast was excellent. And full marks to the waiter....he was very polite and professional.

A pub lunch with my young family and parents. Excellent menu for the kids, they both had a good meal. The vegan roast was spectacular - really the best I've had when eating out - savoury and delicious. This is rarely achieved with vegan 'alternatives' which tend to be overly sweet (relying on sweet vegetables). Very much looking forward to returning. Rated the rooms 5 stars in case a non-vote brings average down - though we didn't stay! Rooms looked good though in the photos :P

Went for a roast with a friend, helpful and attentive staff but not over the top or too in your face. Fantastic roast, they even came round with extra yorkshires and potatoes for people! No judgement or funny looks even though we were a bit muddy from our walk! Pleasant atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!

Had high hopes for this, as a change from the Hilton at Bristol Airport. What a HUGE mistake!!! We called ahead to book a table only to be told the kitchen would be closing at 8pm!!!! 8pm really???? Anyway we ate elsewhere figuring that the chef must need to leave early, only to find that when we arrived at approx 9pm he was 'busy' having a pint at the bar chatting to the girls. We were advised that the door to downstairs would be locked overnight until 7.30am but that the chef lived on site so not to worry about emergencies etc. However the only thing you need to worry about is whether you will get out to your flight as the door remained locked until 7.48am. Now back to the pleasant evening, we were instructed the bar would close at 10.17pm and asked for last orders. I can only imagine this is to facilitate the chef's romance with whoever he was talking to until 2am. We went to bed at 10.30pm and at 11.30pm I banged on the wall due to the incessant talking next door between a male and female. At 2am my husband opened the door and shouted for them to be quiet as the conversation and laughing was relentless. Finally at around 2.30am whoever was talking went downstairs and left. Breakfast is falsely advertised on a large sign outside from 7.30am weekdays however this is not the case and actually its at 8am. Usually a minute detail however when leaving for a flight, 30 minutes can make a lot of difference. The gentleman at breakfast was super polite and friendly and was excellent at getting us served promptly with some breakfast and out the door on time for our flight. The breakfast oats were superb. NEVER AGAIN, we were tired and grumpy for our flight. I'll book the Hilton as usual next time.

Enjoyed dinner very much. We always have a warm welcome with .excellent young staff - friendly and helpful! We also celebrated our Wedding Anniversary at ‘the riser’ for least Sunday lunch. Again we were treated to a top roast chicken meal which we couldn’t fault!

Took my elderly parents for a Sunday roast and we were very pleased. Great staff and service plus a tasty, varied and well presented set of meat and vegetarian roasts. Good size portions which are value for money. Would recommend.

The rooms have very nice decor, very clean, stocked with tea and coffee, large size with multiple bathrooms and very comfortable beds. The staff are extremely attentive and helpful, anything you need, they will sort you out. The breakfast was cooked to perfection and the portion sizes are great, enough to fill you up for the whole day. Served to us by Harvey, a top notch guy who went above and beyond for us, made us feel very comfortable and at home. The location is brilliant aswell because of it's proximity to Bristol and the cheddar gorge, great for an outdoors adventure. Thoroughly enjoying our stay at the rising sun 🌞

We booked here for the night before our flight warm and friendly staff in the pub rooms were immaculate bed was really comfy we had food in the restaurant and it was delicious and a great selection of local beers and ales to choose from..😉

Such a lovely evening, just what we needed after a busy week. Atmosphere was relaxed and chilled.Staff were friendly and attentive. Great food too. Really enjoyed all the different taste sensations and trying several ingredients I have never had before, yum!

We had a meal for four last night and it was delicious - really enjoyed it. Service was lovely and friendly, particularly one very sweet and endearingly honest teenager! I would say that the service was quite slow and the Specials board was removed after we had chosen from it. But apparently the chef was on his own in the kitchen as they were short-staffed so they did very well in the circumstances. All in all, I would go back there. We liked the dining room too, nice spacious tables.

Great local pub, owned by Butcombe. Great service, beer and food. Lovely in summer with large beer garden and kids play park. Love that the menu changes often and the range of deals with a Butcombe loyalty card. Plenty of parking available.

Ours was a comfortable stay. Room was well appointed and spacious. Staff were welcoming and friendly. We would happily stay again in the future.

Visited the Rising Sun at lunchtime to celebrate my birthday with my husband and our friend. This was a birthday present from Butcombe (drinks up to the value of £20 would be free). I'm GF and was pleasantly surprised at the number of dishes that complied so I had fish and chips. Delicious. The staff were very helpful, cheerful and pleasant throughout our meal. Enjoyable lunch - thank you

Have always enjoyed Butcombe Pubs. Food is good and creative, pleasant staff and atmosphere. I took 4 friends to the Rising Sun for lunch. One guest had two glasses of white wine, 1 x medium and 1 x large, although you would be hard pressed to consider the amounts plentiful, the cost for two glasses of wine was £16.00. I believe this to be totally excessive and unreasonable. It has certainly changed my opinion of Butcombe Pubs being good value for money.

My husband and I stayed here for one night as we were traveling from Bristol Airport the next day and was close to the airport. We were booked in by the assistant manager sorry don’t know your name and he showed us to our room which was lovely and comfortable. We decided to eat there for dinner and food was excellent, we had the pie of the day which was turkey and ham with mash but you could have chips instead and came with veg. We did mention to the assistant manager about the take away breakfast for the next morning as we had a early flight and he said he would sort it for us and told us what the take away breakfast was which included a bottle of water each. The next morning we came down to book out and asked about our takeaway breakfast which was handed to us in small boxes. When we got to the car we opened them and we had a bacon roll each but no sauce sachets were in them which would of been nice, we also had a croissant, pain au chocolate and some fruit, would of been nice to have butter and jam sachets for the croissant. There was no water as mentioned. Apart from these issues we had a lovely stay and would return next time flying from Bristol.

Stayed here twice now travelling from Bristol though living in Cornwall, lovely warm rooms, service excellent, food very good especially the breakfast! . We were concerned about arriving late after a delayed flight but they arranged for us to get into our room after closing time. Very helpful. Will definitely use the Rising Sun again.

We visited for Sunday lunch. The food was okay, it wasn’t very warm and the beef was a bit tough. It was quite busy. The desserts were delicious.

They were having some kitchen issues but the staff were welcoming and kept us informed, changed one order from steak to a steak and ale pie and it was really delicious absolutely recommend and we will definitely be back

Went to the rising Sun Backwell with my husband and son and his partner to celebrate my birthday. I am a coeliac and the manager couldn't do enough to make sure that I was making the right choices from the varied menu. Excellent food, friendly staff and a love atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and look forward another visit soon.

Superb roast dinner, with a gourmet touch to it. Very peaceful ambience, and nice waitresses too. First time we visit, but definitely not the last one. ¡Gracias!

We visited for a family reunion, eleven of us in all. The food and service were excellent throughout. I had the aubergine curry dish which was delicious, a great balance of flavours and textures. The restaurant was able to deliver all of the meals at the same time, piping hot and always with a smile from the waiting staff. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion but especially for group bookings. Well done to the kitchen and restaurant staff!

The room is clean, spacious and with a good view. A bit cold, however, because the heating stopped (despite the windows being tightly closed). Ideal for a quiet couple of days, not so ideal if you need 1 evening to catch an early flight.

Birthday celebration meal was excellent and staff friendly and efficient. Will hopefully return again soon.

Room was fine, unfortunately although we stayed two nights, the room was not serviced after the first night.. so mugs unwashed, no new tea bags etc. However it was over Christmas and there was a nice present.

Went for lunch on Boxing day with family. Fantastic service from the team. Very warm and welcoming. Great menu too, bit more interesting than your average pub menu. Will definitely return.

can't comment on rooms as not resident so only three stars? Sunday lunch was just the ticket. Great portions and well cooked veg. Gluten free requirement no problem as the only item not gluten free was the yorkshire. Nearly all the sweets were gluten free too!!

This is a lovely family pub with great food and friendly staff. We had a large gathering here last night with friends and we all enjoyed ourselves very much. We ordered some of the Christmas sharing platters and the quality was fantastic. We'd definitely recommend a visit.

Service was a little slack. Overall though food was fab (especially the Yorkshire Pudding) and the dessert was incredible

Hi my partner G and i have visited the pub on several lunch and evening meals . Always a warm nice welcome from Mark and the team . Inside is warm and relaxin environment, always ask for drinks straight away if required, good service from friendly waitress , a varied interesting menu , have tried dishes that i wouldn't usually go for , but were pleasantly surprised by the presentation and use of quality ingredients that achieve a very enjoyable meal at a reasonable price. A sign of a good chef /manager / great team work. Hats off to all @ The rising Sun .

Great pub with super food and good Butcombe beer. Staff are helpful and friendly. Well worth having a loyalty card for 25% off food in a Wednesday.

Whole place has a lovely warm atmosphere. Beautifully decorated. Friendly staff. Beautiful tasty food. Room we stayed in was stylish and comfortable. Lots of little personal touches made it feel really homely and welcoming. Short distance from the airport. Will definitely stay here again and very reasonably priced. Lovely playarea outside too.

What a fab pub! We thought we’d give it a go on the way back from Cadbury Garden Centre the morning of the 16 November. One thing a lot of pubs are missing is a lovely welcoming staff member, this pub has the BEST bar staff that I’ve experienced for a very long time ! I wish I’d got his name but he was very welcoming, talkative (without being over bearing) and made the whole visit worthwhile! We had a dog which was also allowed in, we ordered breakfast, I had a full English and my other half had had smashed avocado with poached eggs and smoked salmon both of which were cooked beautifully. Soft poached eggs lovely produce. All in all an excellent visit ! We will definitely be back.

We had a lovely stay at the rising sun. Staff were friendly very helpful, and accommodating nothing was tok much effort. The breakfast was morish and good local.products used. Parking was easy Thanks to all the staff

Huge thanks to Harvey and the team at The Rising Sun, Backwell for helping us out at VERY short notice! We got stuck in 'truck fire on the M5' nightmare, and had to make emergency arrangement for us and our 18 month old. The team had a very comfy and clean Family Room available, and were really understanding for our requirements. There's an excellent kid's play area in the beer garden, we had a lovely meal, and the breakfast in the morning was fantastic. Recommend.

Stayed here last week for the night before our flight from Bristol. Was greeted by Mollie,a very pleasant and helpful young lady who showed us to our room.Room was lovely and as it was a surprisingly sunny afternoon for October we had a drink out in the beer garden.We also ate in the pub for evening meal which was lovely and served by a lovely young man.We also had breakfast which was great too.All staff were lovely so we would highly recommend a stay in the Rising Sun,especially if you've got a flight from Bristol as only a short drive away.

On arrival we were met by Mollie, who showed us up to our room (number 2). The room was of a good size and a comfortable bed, also a kettle, tea and coffee provided but you needed to ask for milk as there’s no fridge in the room. Between 4pm & 6pm there was 20% of the drinks, we had booked a table in the restaurant and the food was good , service again by Mollie both in the bar and restaurant was excellent. We noticed that you could have a takeaway breakfast which was provided at our request as we were leaving early in the morning to go to Bristol Airport which was probably 10/15 minutes drive. A few down sides, the storeroom next to our bedroom, the door was open and all paperwork strewn in the landing. The grouting in the shower is ready to be redone. Did these cause an issue no but stopped me giving excellent. Thanks Mollie for your help all evening.

Really good service when it was given but once we got our food the staff vanished, so no more drinks, plates cleared or table service was offered . No it wasn’t busy Good Sunday roast but you could tell much of the food was pre-plated due to soggy bottoms! Could be excellent but missed the mark

Visited in evening loverly place very welcoming when arrived cocktails are great was such a disappointment with the food real let down The burger my partner ordered was cold in middle 2 people ordered pie of the week we was told it was chicken leak bacon it was chicken and mushroom luckily I like both but it just wasn't hot a real disappointment cause it was really nice food. Place was quiet in general yet felt ignored when it came to ordering drinks and trying to pay at the end. Overall for the money charged for the food it's a real let down it was not hot when served its not like it's just a cheap crappy pub it's a nice place and the foods nice the cocktails are great but there's issues with service and temp.

Very nice meal out with the family tonight. Excellent service from Tyler in particular and the other staff who looked after us. Been here many times and never had a bad meal or overall experience. Edited on 13 October when I remembered the top member of staff who looked after us was Tyler, not Dylan! 🤦‍♂️

Had a meal here last night with friends. The staff were generally very helpful and the food was very good. We were very late due to the terrible traffic but they were very accommodating. My only negative was the guy behind the bar who could have been a little more friendly and smiley! Would return.

Great lunch! Absolutely delicious steak with proper thick cut chips. We couldn't fault the food or service and will definitely be recommending it to our friends. Very satisfied customers here 😊

Visited the rising sun this evening for a meal with some friends. Upon arrival the staff were very friendly creating a welcoming atmosphere from the get go. The general manager mark gave exceptional service from the moment we arrived to the moment we left! Wide variety of dishes on the menu including daily specials so there is definitely something to please everyone. Mark was tentative and took the time to give recommendations of dishes such as the pie of the week which did not disappoint, was absolutely delicious..the kitchen staff clearly take pride in the food they serve! Couldn’t fault our evening here at all, already planning our next visit..highly recommend it to anyone considering visiting! Overall a 10/10 experience

My friends and I had a wonderful dinner here this evening as served by lovely staff and greeted by their brilliant manager Mark. He went above and beyond to make sure that everything was brilliant. Will most definitely be coming again! food was spectacular xx

Great room , fresh coffee and cookies was a great addition on arrival . Bathroom was a little small but served the purpose . We did hear classical music playing all night and thought maybe the music may have been left on below in the pub as it closed early on a Sunday . Dinner slightly overpriced for a Sunday roast but menu was limited on a Sunday night .. however was enjoyable !! The highlight of the stay was the full English breakfast , amazing ! Must commend Harriet who is a great member of the team . Will definitely stay there and recommend when flying from bristol again .

It is an ideal pub to go with family or friends. The letter is short but exceptional. In terms of price and quality, it is the best. If you're traveling to Bristol, it's a great place to enjoy a good English breakfast.

Stayed on the 11th September for one night. Lovely accommodation very good standard. Big shout out to Fleur, Harvey and Tyler who were excellent asset to your company.

The rising sun is a perfect place to stay prior to flying from Bristol airport. It’s an olde pub but great atmosphere and the staff are young and couldn’t do enough for you. The food was second to none for dinner we had the lamb and apple pie to be honest I’d go back just for that. The breakfast was plenty of choice and well cooked. So why do you ask the 4* it was the room it would have made a perfect superior single room it was very clean no fault there but for two people a little small and only enough room for one chair so if you wanted an early night one of you would have to sit in the bed. A 5* is a perfect score with no fault at all hence the 4* grading Would I go back definitely a yes

Super find, great character, good welcome, lovely room, nice food (always is at Butcombe pubs we've stayed at) and we would return. However, we were disappointed with the length of time we had to wait for our main course in the evening of our stay - it was Monday 9/9 & not busy. The rest outweighed that so we shall give it another go sometime👍

Stayed for a night pre our morning flight. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful including very kindly making us breakfast earlier than normal. Dinner was great and the room comfortable. Will definitely stay again when flying early.

It was my first time visiting the rising sun, and wow, its a lovely pub and the food was amazing, they have a new general manager who was friendly, welcoming and helpful. We will be returning!

First stay for us and didn't disappoint. Everything from the friendly welcome, lovely breakfast and extremely comfy bed our two night stay was both pleasant and relaxing. We will be back, thank you Simon and the team.

We were initially welcomed by Mollie who we mistook for the GM because she was so professional in all that she did. She instantly put us at ease with her friendliness and excellent customer service. Harvey was also brilliant when dealing with food order. Good size and clean rooms.

Stayed here to visit the Balloon Fiesta - excellent location, staff were very welcoming and room very comfortable. Dogs were equally welcomed with no extra charge - a rarity these days!!
