Wasn’t great, cakes tasted dry, sandwich wasn’t great either. Service was very friendly, but was really slow. I hope things improve.

Excellent home cooked food. The fried chicken with curry sauce inside was unbelievable. Lots of warm food to choose from and some real nice pasteris and buns.

I love this bakery, they offer a range of pastries, including doughnuts, cakes and cheesecake. Fresh bread rolls and bread they slice for you. A range of hot pasties, sausage rolls and pies. Fresh sandwiches and rolls hot and cold made to order while you wait. Hot and cold drinks available, along with the option to sit in and eat. The staff in there are always polite, ample parking outside, worth a visit!

Appalling service forgot my order, and the waiter was rude when I asked where my food was.

Mate and me went, was in queue for over 15mins before I left my mate there. During that time they managed to serve one person. Have driven to Clevedon, ordered, paid and collected my food from H&H Burgers... My mate is still in the queue!!!!

Problem with opening time no staff on the premises at 07:15 I had to go elsewhere. Please change the opening time on Google thanks.

Place is a disgrace, blonde haired women serving me a sandwich was wiping her hand all over her sweaty face then proceeded to to grab lettuce to put in my sandwich with her bare hand, massive cross contamination with all the food, no gloves worn, took my cash wiped her sweaty face again then proceeded to serve the next customer. Couldn’t bring myself to eat the sandwich will never return, they need some proper training!! Absolutely disgusting!!

This place is a lovely bakery tucked away in Congresbury. It's been the same for years and always serves up a good range of cakes, sandwiches, breads and pastries and drinks hot and cold. It's always a pleasure to be served by the smiling faces of the staff here. The food always tastes good too.

My wife and I go out of our way to visit this place. Amazing personally made bread rolls. Hot food and of course cakes and bread.

Justaff member was so rude and abrupt not one smile, seemed to be an inconvenience to her to even serve me. The steak bake had no meat in it just a thin layer of sauce in the centre, was basically just pastry. Had to chuck it away the sausage rolls are drys and anything and the sausage and bacon is cooked left out then cooked again andend up being burnt. Stay clear of this place

This bakery was the best fresh bread baked in the ovens fresh made pasties etc the owners and staff were so friendly.sadly they sold the buisness to new owners i found the pasties etc awful the staff there are quite abrupt.will not buy from them again.

Not impressed since ownership has changed I must say, the staff however are lovely.

I ordered some of their amazing Fried chicken. They took special care to cook it fresh and also gave me some complementary coleslaw. I can't stop telling everyone about this little local secret. Fantastic.

My favourite chicken and bacon sub. I will have to try their breakfast or Jamaican menu one day.

I used to come here everyday when I worked in Congresbury for my lunch. Staff lovely, food fabulous so when we were in the area today I thought I would pop in for a sandwich. Well I wish I hadn’t, I didn’t recognise any of the staff but there was plenty of choice so I opted for an egg Mayo sandwich. The lady who served me had a mask on that wasn’t covering her nose and most of her mouth was on show too. She took a long time making the sandwich and the more I was watching her make it the more I didn’t want to eat it.. egg oozing out the side of the sandwich , her gloves didn’t look clean and I was completely put off, I think more because she was making it without her mask firmly on covering her mouth and nose .. I keep telling myself I was being paranoid but during these awful times shops handling food should be wearing the correct PPE and she definitely wasn’t . .the sandwich went in the bin !!

Quality breakfast! Lovely friendly staff

This is no longer a bakery. The baker retired, these people sold the ovens for scrap metal and now sell frozen braces bread from newport. Buy this from the supermarket, its fresher and not frozen. I used to come here every day for a pasty and a sausage roll made with sausate meat from Rob Hodder, the butcher next door. Now, the frozen pastries they get from lidl are consistently undercooked and palid. There is no reason to visit. In fact please stay away until they go bankrupt. At least then there is a small chance this former bakery may be bought by someone who will bake. It used to be the best bakery in England, now is makes Greggs look like michelin star cuisine. Boycot these lazy owners who swapped europes best bread for frozen cardboard from Newport, a factory all the way miles and miles distant in Wales.

Fresh bread, cakes and a cafe all rolled into one

Regular shopper and find all the bread very nice as well as the sausage rolls. Nice to be able to have Caribbean food as well as nearest other place would be a half an hour drive into Bristol. Only tried the curry goat which is highly recommended and have the option of having it hot or cold so can take home and reheat for dinner.

I travel here most weekends from Taunton for home comforts that remind me of my mums cooking. The ladies here are always welcoming and happy. Theres a vibe as soon as you step in the door if they aren't already smiling (I've caught them doin this whilst silent and looking down at what they're doing 🤭) they definitely pick you up in spirit. I'm terms of food (nothing can beat my mums) however her food 🤤🤤 is good enough for me to want to travel and I'm not the furthest traveller either if you've got people coming from London where there is carribean food in abundance then that's got to say something in itself, you won't be disappointed with the price not the portion size

Centrally located in Congresbury’s small shopping precinct, this is a combination of a café and bakery, with food either available to take away or eat in. I popped in to get a couple of take away pies or pasties for lunch, and the first problem was that nothing in the display counter was labelled, so I had no idea what any of it was. Trying to elicit an explanation proved rather difficult. I was trying to establish if the two things that looked like sausage rolls were the same other than the obvious size difference, but it seemed that this was a far too challenging an enquiry. Having moved on to the pies, I got the vague impression that one might be a chicken & mushroom, and the other a beef & ale. I said I’d have one of each, but only one turned up…. So, I went through this again and asked for another, only to get something completely different – I’m not sure what it was really, it was a flat pastry thing like you might get at breakfast, but with sun dried tomato on it. The chicken and mushroom pie was actually pretty good though, a decent enough portion and quite tasty. The tomato thing was less successful, rather tough pastry and very little taste. A plate on the counter had bit size samples of their carrot cake (finally, something that is labelled!) but it certainly didn’t inspire me to buy any, it was the strangest tasting carrot cake I’ve ever had. I can only assume that the labelling was wrong and it was perhaps banana cake. Overall, I was really a bit disappointed with this. I’m not saying I won’t perhaps return, but I certainly won’t be rushing back.

I have visited the cottage loaf a few times and I have had mixed experiences. I haven’t eaten in only grabbed food to take away. The pasties are nice and some of the cakes are okHowever Some of the cakes have been tasteless and bland. The custard tarts had no taste at all along with the custard donuts.I like to support smaller bakers but the food here doesn’t really stand up and can be to hit and miss.

This was a vibrant cheerful bakery. Now it seems very cold. Appears there's less variety of cakes. No gluten free cakes/tarts available. Sad.

Nice place and nice food and staff are so helpful

How can anyone make a breakfast so badly? The sausages never saw meat let alone had meat in them and the bacon swimming in cooking fat. The toast clearly was off someone else's plate and the coffee undrinkable. Never again, should I ever have to be in that area I will prefer to stay hungry

We meet up here most Wednesdays for a breakfast roll and coffee before golf and it's always good food with friendly service

Bought a freshly made egg and cheese wholemeal roll which was yummy. The bread on sale looked nice and if I drive past again I would be tempted to buy some.

Very clean and tidy am from London but always try passing by when in area, great tasting food.

Unfortunately my experience was unisual i that the member of staff that served me came straight from handling money to make my roll without washing her hands or putting gloves on. I will definitely mention this if it happens again as very unusual.

Since the new owners have taken over everything is awful, pies and pasties are greasy and undercooked, bread dry really disappointing.

I buy my bread and cakes here, a nice range of bakery products. You can sit down in the cafe if you want and have a breakfast or a coffee and cake or sandwich, or even sit down outside, if the weather permits. A convenient carpark is situated at the back. There is also a defibrillator for emergencies if one is needed. It is located on the end wall outside the chip shop

It’s really disheartening how this lovely bakery has gone to pot and how it now smells like a dirty cafe looking through to the back and how dirty it’s is , the new suppler of the breads and cakes coming from Wells I believe is awful the bread rolls are so big that if you cooking a burger at home it’s taken over by bread the pasty’s slices are anaemic and flakey and the staff have no relationship with each other the atmosphere is horrific such a shame was delicious not no more

This was an excellent bakery and cafe until it changed hands about 12 months ago - since when standards have rather slipped. Went for a loaf 9am yesterday (Saturday - probably the busiest day of the week) and there was almost nothing on the shelves. Had to buy a loaf from the NISA shop next door - made by a local bakery in the next village. It says a lot that the grocery store can now sell a range of specialist breads; they couldnt really do this when the bakery next door was at its best. A great shame as we like to support our local shops and the bakery has been a great asset in the past.

We have been buying our bread here every week for years, really sad to say I go to a supermarket now because it's declined that much. The bread isn't as good and the slicing machine is leaving the under baked loaves torn and unuseable. What really gets me is that the staff see this and still try to pass it on to you. Don't start me on the pasties, not sure what's going on there

I recently started working in the area and visit this bakery every day for my lunch, its a super bakery, friendly staff, excellent choice of food, all beautifully fresh and the sandwich bar is fab, huge selection. You compare this bakery to some of the high street competitors the value for money as brilliant. Don't believe the poor reviews, they must be blind.

I've been using the place for a few years, it has recently been taken over.All the helpful staff seem to have gone, one of the new staff seems to be more interested in her phone than serving people in the queue.The sandwiches/rolls are still good but the staff do not seem to be willing to go into the butchers next door like they used to do if i wanted a beef roll/sandwich.

Very glad to still have a bakery in the village but has gone downhill since the new owners have arrived. Staff not observant: people waiting to be served but 2 staff cooking breakfast/food and not serving waiting customers. Need to train staff or proper supervision needed.

Enjoyed full breakfast and coffee here yesterday.

A first rate artisan bakery, making brilliant bread... It changed ownership early in 2018 and is now less good.

When you see staff handling food without gloves particularly meat followed by salad items and being vegetarian - it's not good! Plus handling cash in between serving food is unacceptable - really was off putting. Also saw a young child running in and out of the back room touching food on racks which should not happen either. Staff friendly and helpful but food hygiene needs attention.

Lovely sandwiches and rolls if I'm in the area I always pop in the pies and pasties are gorgeous everything always seems fresh!

I come here every day for my lunch, the choice is great, their sandwiches are delicious every time, the bread is lovely and The staff are very friendly. I highly recommend this lovely bakery .

I was shocked and dismayed to see the staff handling food without disposable gloves on and then horrified to note that they took money from customers and then went back to handling food without either washing their hands or putting gloves on. I was in the cafe area for approx 30 minutes during the lunch hour rush and all the staff were handling money and then handling food consistently. Such a shame!!

What a lovely surprise to find this award-winning bakery now serves food. We often pop in for breakfast when buying their bread or sometimes pick up something to take with us when travelling.

Only recently discovered this shop, the sandwiches are the best , you can choose from a wide variety of fillings and they make them up for you with the bread of your choice and they are delicious. The bread is also lovely with loads to choose from. Very reasonable prices too and staff very polite. If I lived near congresbury I would be in there every day.

I love this place. The bakery produce is excellent. Then just when you thought it couldn't get any better, they refurbished to add a café and started offering breakfasts. Awesome.

The bread here is excellent and the baps are a firm family favourite. The cake that they made for my father's 90th birthday was delicious and decorated professionally and as requested.

Been here many times for baguettes and breakfasts and has failed to disappoint me. Simply delishious!

I've had two loaves of bread from here and i won't be chancing a third. The first one must have been cut while it was still warm meaning it had been squashed to the point that most of the slices were barely an inch wide in the middle (not an exaggeration) the second loaf, despite asking for thick slice, has been cut so thin your finger goes through it just picking it up. Perhaps now that you've managed to make award winning bread you could dedicate a little time to learning how to slice it properly.
