The Rising Sun is a fantastic little pub in a beautiful location. Chris and Jude are doing a brilliant job behind the bar and in the kitchen. It's what a pub is supposed to be. Always there for regulars and always welcoming for visitors.

The main picture is incorrect. It is of The Rising Sun in Kemsing which is a few miles away from The Rising Sun in Twitton. Both pubs have a unique charm but it is the one in Twitton that I'm reviewing here. The pub is a proper old school pub - small & cosy with a large open fire, good real ale and a basic (but satisfying) menu. Although the inside space is limited there is a large garden with plenty of tables and beautiful views of the Darenth Valley. The family running the pub are good hosts - friendly and welcoming. It is a dog friendly pub and there are often a few treats on the bar. I've been coming here for years and can't think of a better place to end a long walk.

What a great pub in a lovely setting. A very large garden and run by the most amazing family. They are always seeking to put on entertainment and something a little different. Definitely a must visit place to go.

Many thanks to the very kind landlord who took us, a group of elderly walkers, back to the station on Monday. We were exhausted in 25C heat after having walked about 4 miles looking at all the 'planets' in the Otford Solar System. We decided that soldering on to Pluto was just a bit to much for us. Lovely pub and lovely dogs!

Quaint, old-fashioned country pub. Dog friendly with a resident staffie. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Parking is a bit difficult as the lane is narrow. Damaged my paintwork trying to get tight to edge of the road. Sunday roast was a bit disappointing. Choice of pork or beef. Both quite tough but might have been kept warm as we were a late sitting. Potatoes and yorkshires were Aunt Bessie but the vegetables were fresh, especially the runner beans.

18/4/22 - The Rising Sun Twitton There seems to be a big confusion between this pub in a Otford in the Darent valley and the old cottage pub in the middle of nowhere near Kemsing (also on TA). I have not been to the pub so have given it a neutral rating. If I had time I would report the pics and most reviews as pertaining to the other pub in Kemsing. I attach the correct pics from Ggl. The map road orientation and position of both pubs are similar but in different parts of the area. All the pictures and most of the reviews (including one of mine) refer to Kemsing. Even Ggl have got it wrong! Apparently there is even a third RS pub confusing reviewers further. Michelle and her team have told Ggl but nothing has been corrected. I am not adding my review from April 2022 here, my last was (erroneously) in June 2021. I hope the actual Twitton RS pub has some pertinent reviews and is open (as it was correctly in August 21 by Alancer2016). It is a pity there are no pics. The owners must be really cheesed off! Maybe they should rename one The Setting Sun and the other The Midday Sun?

2/6/21 We arrived at 17:20 on a Wednesday on the off chance it might be open but expecting out to be closed (as usually open only for lunch). We found to our dismay that it was not only closed (the lights were on inside and the upstairs windows open) but in a rather unkempt condition, the road sign being semi derelict. The garden was not as wildly neat as it is, the tower framed had collapsed and the picnic table were crooked. I hope the proprietress is ok and well and has not succumbed to COVID, although she was a tough woman. I popped round the side and there were some signs of life but no-one answered my calls. An old Peugeut was wedged backwards into the hedge, surrounded by split logs, almost an artwork. We left after ten minutes as a little rain spat down, hoping to return at lunchtime to check her out properly. I do hope she is OK.

My wife and I go walking on Sundays whenever possible and we have started to run out of new walks, so I "Google earthed" some local places and saw the Rising sun in Twitton lane. It is so isolated in a lane with about half a dozen houses that I'm surprised it is still going, but still going, it is! We parked up outside (and later realized that they have a carpark around the back) and went for a circular walk , starting from a footpath a few paces up the road from the pub. When got back, we found that the pub was fully catered for inside, so sat in the large rear garden with views across to Shoreham. To make things even better, they had my favourite real ale- Wadworth 6X (Devizes, Wiltshire) . we will be back!

This has always been a hidden gem with some locals not aware of its existence. Small free-house with really friendly staff and great food Friday-Sunday, especially steak night Friday with an awesome lump of rib-eye, well cooked to your liking, with piles of chips, egg, peas, mushroom, tomatoes and onion rings. Called in during a walk near the North Downs Way. Very difficult to tell if it was open till we pushed on the door. The very small pub has two labradors, a terrier, a cat and the landlady. All were very pleasant and friendly. Over time, the pub has accumulated ‘stuff’ and there is a lot of it around - to the point that four of us made the pub seem full. Don’t think they provide food

A little gem in Twitton Lane near Otford. An old country pub with a lovely garden overlooking the fields ofthe downs and valley. Good real ale and friendly landlord and lady. Popular with cyclists and walkers. Good pub but i will start off with a warning. Parking here was a nightmare. This place was a bit of an enigma, i visited with my wife whilst staying in the area. On the outside it looks like a quaint old world Kent pub. When we walked in it felt like a very busy local with a busy bar full of locals who had just finished work. Friendly nice busy atmosphere, we were strangers and could not have felt more welcome. Expecting a typical pub grub menu and dont get me wrong there is fish and chips pie etc on the menu but also but also black pudding panchetta and poached egg (super scrummy). My compliments to the owner for being a bit different with the menu to the chef for cooking rally good ingredients really well and the girls serving us for such cheerful service, when i am back in the area i will be calling in for another scummy meal

Excellent Sunday Lunch. Visited with my wife’s 91 year old mother to celebrate her birthday. Service was great. My roast beef lunch was excellent and beautifully presented. A shame that the look of the WW2 pub, frequented by Biggin Hill fighter pilots, has been mostly lost though.
