Visited website. Ordered the sat before a Monday delivery. No delivery. No customer service. As yet no acknowledgment of not turning up, via email or telephone. Frustrating.

From 8.30 till 3pm daily Rise use the bar and the tables inside an out to serve good coffee, delightful pastries and a good selection of snacks including the best (and we think the most keenly priced) avocado on sourdough toast. And they sell loaves from their bakery. Had a good time here this afternoon and will be back.

Came across these guys while getting my vaccination done in the drop-in van near the shop! Staff came and dished out samples while we waited - delicious. So I called in after the jab - big sizes of the same cakes are even better! And the coffee is lovely too. Thanks folks! Will definitely be back soon

I was delighted to stumble on this bakery and discover they sell Cornish pasties. (Is there any area, even in Cornwall, with more pasty sellers so close to each other than that around Plymouth Market? The Pasty Quarter, as I call it.) After checking they make their own, I bought one, ready, as ever, to be disappointed (as I'm fussy). I wanted to compare Rise's pasty with the others I've tried thereabouts. And, ah, what a revelation, the Rise Bakery's version proved one to be reckoned with indeed! Instant Zen! It had a rich, flaky, firm, hand-holdable pastry with a flavour of its own. Inside, a generous ration of medium-sized bits of steak, set in a gravied vegetable filling with just the right texture, and intensely flavoursome. For me, this pasty beats all others in the neighbourhood, with the exception of the masterpiece sold at Etherington's Proper Pasties and Stuff shop next to the covered market. For me, it's markedly better than those sold at Friary Mill, Ivor Dewdney, Oggy Oggy, and the Original Pasty House. No mean feat! I took some marks off because the pasty had become tarred, almost burnt, underneath, maybe from standing on a hot shelf too hot. Nothing wrong with a bit of Maillard reaction, yum--but it had got a bit out of hand. I bought the pasty at lunchtime, so maybe it was past its best, because the gravy in the lovely filling was thickening a bit where it met the pastry, as if drying out. It has to be said also that this was the most expensive steak pasty in the area at £3.70, with Etherington's at £3.40. So it's overpriced. The young lady in the shop didn't know where Proper Pasties and Stuff is. But shouldn't Rise know its competition inside out and bake and price accordingly? Nevertheless, I had an excellent chat with the lady: she's a credit to the company. Rise is a fantastic little bakery shop, which I'll revisit to sample more of its inviting wares.

Went to this lovely little shop down in Frankfort gate a few weeks ago. The ladies in there were so lovely and I left with two loaves of sourdough and a few cronuts. The sourdough was absolutely delicious and the cronuts were so filling and perfect. Have been back multiple times now and have also visited their little hut down in plymstock which is just as lovely.

Bought some sausage rolls recently and i'm sure they have changed the recipe along with reducing the size a little too. We were looking forward to having them again as they are always sold out. Wont be buying them again as you can buy similar ones elsewhere for a lot cheaper too!

I tried here a while ago. The prices are far too high. I had a pasty which was £4.50! And it didn't taste that appetising to be honest. Never gone back since.

Interesting that there’s been a lot of interest since The Vault closed and the lease was up for grabs. A lively CBD cafe business called ‘Buddha Hut’, which started a year or so ago in Union Street then moved to lower Cornwall Street has now announced they are expanding again and have acquired the Mutley lease and will open at the beginning of November with a cafe selling lots of CBD coffee and food etc on the ground floor with the large basement given over to other CBD products.

Three of us came in for informal supper. Booked but not necessary, maybe half full. Deal of £25 for two portions of fish and ships, geared towards couples but we have to pay about £17 for a third. The girls serving seemed to be getting edgy towards the end maybe because there seemed to be a group of their friends towards end of evening.

Have purchased from here several times - both the cake slices and celebration cakes. Most of the time the cakes are great - light and fluffy, but have been two occasions where the cake was too sweet and did not taste very fresh (seems more of an exception), but will still be purchasing nonetheless.

The Chancel has been one of our favourite places to eat in Plymouth for many years. During Covid and a bit longer they’ve been delivering or preparing for collection. Without much thought or any foreknowledge we walked down this evening hoping it might up and running for their traditional bistro food and good wines. Very disappointed therefore to find it dark, empty and will a To Let sign. No hint that there might still be an online service. Pity and we’re sad. Many dozens of happy memories.
