A wonderful coffee shop, popped in for a cappuccino one of the best I’ve ever tried will certainly be back 👍. Really friendly staff

Popped in while passing for brunch. Staff were amazing at finding us a table and also accommodating dietary requests and were flexible with substituting items for breakfast. Highly recommend the venue for staff service and food quality. My only tiny improvement would be to ask how would like eggs cooked mine were hard when would have rathered runny.

We visited for the first time for breakfast and were blown away with the friendly staff and cared breakfast menu. We both had the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and were pleasantly surprised - the pancakes are made on site and the bacon is the best we’ve tasted, being produced locally. We will definitely be back again!

Freshly cooked breakfast, with a very good traditional breakfast and an excellent eggs benedict of many varieties (and cooked to perfection). Also, the place for a cream tea (remember, jam on top). The prices are very good and reasonable, but the service and atmosphere are excellent! I have dined here a number of times, so my ticking "breakfast" below is only partly true!

Before writing this l have run it by friends and they agree with my feelings, just to ensure it's not me overreacting. The food delicious, no complaints at all there. BUT today l treated friends who'd not visited before and we had a dog with us. Lady came to take order quietly asking 'would your dog like a sausage?' Sausage arrived already sliced up, lined up slices and well, tiniest sausage l've ever seen, more chipolata! Not a problem, UNTIL our bill arrived only to find £1.50 added for this. Now, my disquiet isn't about the £1.50, l'd have tipped more than that, but it's the sneakiness. l spoke quietly to the lady at the till and was met with 'Oh, did you think it was a complimentary sausage?!' Well yes l did actually, l had dog treats in my bag, but this was something they actually offered, not something l asked for. No mention of charging, nothing on the chalk wall or menu about 'small sausage for your dog £1.50!' It's the principle! My friends aren't best impressed a dog friendly cafe, l expect 20 to 30 dogs per day easily, all being offered the same not knowing it'd be added to their bill, l suspect most don't even check, that's a lot of £1.50s adding up!! It definitely left us somewhat cross. Again, not the cost but the lack of transparency. The response insinuating l was wrong for assuming it was a complimentary dog treat just sealed it for me. Thankfully lots of dog friendly cafes that are more transparent and so a group here that won't return.

Hyggeligt sted, god betjening. Vi fik fish and chips og en salat og maden var meget velsmagende. Rimelige priser og et dejligt sted at være og ved det skønne område omkring havnen.

Fantastic food at great prices, always great service.

I have just had the most delicious breakfast here. The staff are friendly, the service is excellent and the food was delicious and an absolute bargain! I definitely recommend!

What an amazing little place. We’ve had the best experience with service two mornings in a row. Our waitress was so friendly and personal, remembered us from the day before. The food was fantastic, huge portions!! Definitely coming back!!! Loved it.

Went here for breakfast the days we stayed nearby. Staff were very friendly and the portons are a good size.

Delicious quick clean friendly staff

If you are staying at a hotel in Central Plymouth don't book breakfast, go to Monty's instead. Their breakfasts are excellent, they serve good quality food, I particularly recommend their bacon and sausages.

Poor disregard for allergies and then incredibly rude and abrasive staff. Will not be back again. In Plymouth the price of goods is more important than the quality of the service/goods. Take all the positives with a pinch of salt.

I came in for a flat white and a hot chocolate. Both of these we're not very nice. My flat white was very watery and I actually left it which isn't normal for me. The hot chocolate was similar but not very strong tasting. We did have some cake which was nice and we didn't have any food hence the 4 stars as the service was good. I like a good coffee shop but sadly this is not it, I won't be coming back.

I went here with my family today for hot drinks and cake. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere was nice enough. We ordered a flat white, a hot chocolate and a slice of cake. The cake was nice but the coffee tasted watery and was topped with foam (like a cappuccino), the hot chocolate was also watery/milky, and the milk tasted scorched. If the staff had some barista training I would happily return but unfortunately we couldn't finish our drinks as they were really not nice, which is a real shame.

Bagels with cheddar and bacon 🥓 and poached eggs 🥚 were lovely, cooked to perfection. Ham, cheese and mushroom omelette was tasty and plenty of it. Staff all friendly and welcoming. Always great food.

Disgusting food, bland and tasteless should have gone to McDonald's for a decent meal

Very tasty freshly cooked food. Delighted to find a low carb breakfast option (omelette) which was delicious. The staff were very friendly. Will be going again, especially when family visit with dogs.

We went for a family brunch, and even the dog was given a bowl of water and a small bowl of cut-up sausages, with the owners approval of course. I found the cafe to be extremely friendly, with a comfortable atmosphere, and good, well cooked food. My Eggs Royal was excellent. There are also vegetarian options. I will certainly go there again.

Second visit over the past year, both very enjoyable. Great prices for a top location cafe close to the harbour, but more importantly the quality of the meals is excellent too, despite the fairly limited (and down to earth) menu. All the stars well deserved.

Good food, good service & good value. We went for breakfast which is severed all day 7 days a week but there were lots of other things on the menu that were tempting not to mention great looking cakes which I definitely want to go back and try.

Been to Monty’s a few times for breakfast, always friendly and a good menu selection. I can voucher for the eggs Benedict and Royale. Tasty!

Visited for lunch & whilst it took a while for my order to be taken the food arrived quickly &chasing the biggest & best bubble & squeak I've had in years served with 2 lovely fried eggs & perfectly cooked bacon all washed down with a mug of breakfast tea. Really good value for money aswell. The staff are very polite & friendly to. I would advise booking a table as it was very busy with locals & tourists and a wait of 15 minutes for tables when I was ready to leave. Thanks for a nice meal, your menu is lovely with a huge choice.

Whilst it would seem breakfast stops at 11.30 on the Barbican , not the case at Montys ! A wonderful selection from the menu of food and hot drinks , service was good , standard of food excellent and overall very reasonable as well. Hope to be back again soon thanks .

Very busy, should have booked...

My wife and myself had a long weekend in Plymouth, staying very close to the Barbican. We noticed Montys the first day but decided it looked small and very busy so didn't bother The second day we decided to give it a go. and queued for about 10 minutes before being shown to a table. (Whilst waiting I noticed quite a few "reserved" table boards, marked up and ready for use.). Ordered full English x2, with tea. The portion size was spot on but the quality and presentation was exceptional and very reasonable priced (Only about £1,50pp MORE than what I would have paid at the "budget hotel" on the Quay I asked, "is it worth booking for breakfast" which we did. I know this is a personal opinion, however if our 3 visits are the standard then I think you will be pushed to find better.

You won't find better Reccomend by our air bnb hosts Fab food Large portions Gluten free vegan veggies catered for.. only down side was tgeccoffee was heftily strong but that's just me! 10/10

Absolutely first rate, friendly attentive staff, excellent choice of food, great atmosphere and wonderful coffee. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were extremely hardworking and all five different choices of food were very well received.

This place has the perfect breakfast menu, something for everyone. I can recommend the Chef’s Breakfast, which was a tasty take on the traditional cooked breakfast.

Despite a few negative experiences here, I think this place is fab! The food was good (all day breakfast) & the servers were friendly & efficient. Considering that so many places are overpriced now, I think that Monty's is excellent value for money. I'll certainly be back.

Food is so average, bacon so undercooked all frozen stuff you can do better at home. Chips also average. Chef needs to cook the bacon a couple minutes longer

Ordered soup of the day. This was a tastless green puree which eventually arrived in a large shallow plate and was stone cold. Came with two pieces of toasted granary bread, also cold, and butter. Send it back to be reheated which the waitress did willingly enough. Service slow. Cannot recommend. Plenty of better places in the area

This is one of the best cafes I have ever been to. Friendly staff, great food all at a good price. Very well organised and very little waiting. Much more than your average cafe. Will be back again.

We had 3 breakfasts (full English, bubble & squeak, eggy bread bacon sandwich) and they were excellent. Great produce well cooked. The service was friendly and efficient. The only opportunity we saw for improvement was the toilet facilities which could do with a fresh. Still excellent and value for money. Well done to all involved.

So pleased we stumbled upon this great cafe. We never eat breakfast in hotels and this gem proves the point. Eggs bread bacon sarnie was delicious & and the full English with perfect poached eggs, decent thick bacon and good quality sausages was such good value. If it is busy and no tables are available just chill out and book one. It's worth the wait.

We've always enjoyed a breakfast here but today we left feeling really disappointed. We ordered our drinks and food, and the drinks were brought to the table quite quickly, one was missing but we assumed it would be along shortly, after a while we had to ask someone for the drink, which they did bring, but tried to charge us twice for it. We waited nearly an hour for our breakfasts to arrive (couples seated after us at this point had eaten their food and left). When the food arrived I actually wish it hadn't, the eggs were undercooked and snotty, the bacon fat was so burnt it was actually black, the toast should have been advertised as warm bread, and the mushrooms looked like they had been deep fried and we're just dripping in fat, then to top it off, tomatoes were missing entirely from one of the breakfasts. We didn't eat alot of the food and left the place feeling a bit ill. Sadly I don't think we will ever bother coming back after that experience.

It was horrible and I was disappointed as I used to eat here regularly back in 2016 and the food was always hood back then. However today was not a good experience and I won't be going back again. We ordered full English breakfast and got 2 pieces of shrivelled bacon that was burnt black to eggs that were cooked underneath but slimey and snotty on top. We also ordered burger and fries we'd taken two bites of the burger and saw it was still red and raw in the middle so I told the waitress who apologised and took the burger back to the kitchen. She came back to ask, "Chef says do you want him to just put this half eaten burger back on the grill or do you want a fresh one?" I couldn't believe my ears" A fresh one please!" So we waited about another 30 minutes and they brought a fresh burger, we took a single bite and you could see it was just the same raw in the middle and undercooked! At this point we decided to leave. We used the W.C. and there was no toilet roll and no soap and no paper towels or dryer I did mention this to the head waitress who was a little snippy about it but the toilets should be checked regularly throughout the day. When I went to pay she said she had refunded our drinks, a J20 and a coffee. The place has such potential but if they can't even cook a burger then I'm off to Captain Jasper's

Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning, great location, great service staff but the English breakfast did not live up to the reviews that led us to choose this location.

Every time we come to Plymouth we always have breakfast or lunch here.I would advise booking during the busy summer months but if they are busy it’s worth the wait. All good is of top quality and they always present it well. Happy helpful staff and a good atmosphere in the cafe. I recommend everything 😍

Today is third visit in 2 weeks. Food is brilliant, nicely served, good service and inside (away from seagulls). Added bonus of no annoying music. Thanks to all at Montys

First time visit to this super café will definitely be going again. Very nice atmosphere, food was all very good quality, service was attentive but not imposing. Food arrived in a timely manner, good value for an establishment right on the Barbican. I couldn't equate the bad reviews to our experience - maybe they reviewed the wrong café! We thought Monty's was great 😊

Found this cafe when we visited the Aquarium. Lovely food and the staff were so kind to my autistic daughter, finding her an appropriate table due to the bagpipes playing outside. Highly recommend.

It’s been a while since we last visited Monty’s café but glad we did, friendly welcome and staff. Ordered the full English and the pancakes with bacon, all took a reasonable time to cook from fresh, good ingredience, well cooked & presented at a reasonable price. Would diffenatley recommend and return.

The staff are very friendly and the food is delicious. Such a great value menu, with so much to choose from. Pet friendly. Highly recommend a visit I would recommend booking, but if they can get you a table they will do their best.

Food was really poor and disappointing after seeing all the good reviews. The milk was out of date and the full English was mediocre- bacon was very underdone. We also ordered pancakes and fresh fruit - pancakes were very bland and rubbery and the fruit was not fresh and there were bugs inside (pictured)!!!! £4.75 for a hot chocolate was a bit much.. Wouldn’t recommend unfortunately

What an absolute, refreshing change to go for breakfast where the quality of the food was excellent and the staff were amazing, especially the lady in charge, even our dog was happy with his doggy sausage.

Lovely cafe for breakfast. Nicely decorated. Clean toilets. Coffee was ok. Food was great. Friendly service.

I would give it a 0 if I could. Ordered a cheese, bacon and egg bagel to find my cheese are cooked in the oven - made it soggy. The service was appalling - no check back and I had to ask them to clear my plates. After discussing how they heated the cheese, the server said ‘I should have requested it to be cooked under the grill if that was my preference’. Full bill paid but no apologies. £8 for some microwaved cheese bagel - I’ll pass next time. Get some lessons in hospitality too rather than dordelling at the bar.

High quality food, good sized portions cooked fresh as it should be. Excellent service from start to finish. Couldn’t fault a thing. (With special thanks to the Manager for finding us a table inside and the Assistant Manager…..for the extra butter) First class

Good quality ingredients sadly for me the food was undercooked. Bubble and squeak was tasteless the potatoes were too soft bordering on sloppy the cabbage tough and stringy and the promised leak was non existent I had to put brown sauce on to get some...

A great find very unpretentious from the outside but serving really good food at a reasonable price and friendly too. Fish & Chips were very good huge chips served on a cup delicious.

Lovely coffee shop. Fantastic coffee and all around a lovey place to visit. I would recommend to all, come here instead of a costa etc. thank you for the coffee and your lovely staff’s service
