The Ring in Southwark

I went here recently and the food was amazing but the service was exceptional! Can’t wait to come here again!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS Absolutely disgusting establishment run by an aggressive, rude and misogynistic man called Mario. They charge 12.5% service charge for ordering your own food at the bar. When I queried it, another member of staff said they would take it off. He went to check with ‘the manager’ Mario who took it back and said no we had to pay and my partner and I had to pay two separate lots of 12.5% service charge! He said he would refund us but he’d LEAVE THE FOOD ON THE BAR FOR US TO COLLECT. He said how he was the boss and his other staff’s opinions didn’t matter. He then spoke to me in the most misogynistic tone. We requested a refund on both meals after this because we were so appalled by Mario that we didn’t want to spend a single second or penny in that place. Whoever owns the pub should be ashamed of this man’s employment and he should be fired immediately. Just read the other reviews saying the same thing about him! Probably the worst hospitality experience I’ve ever had.

Nice pub, great food, really bloody rude barman. The red headed man behind the bar couldn’t have been less interested and clearly took a disliking to me in front of my group of colleagues. Would maybe return for some food but not in a hurry. Would recommend for a post work drink and decor is pretty cool.

Only popped in briefly for a quick pint, but had a good selection of real ale, including kne of my favourites Titanic plum porter

Small corner pub with a boxing theme offering fantastic Thai & other S.E Asian dishes, plus a good selection of ales & craft beers. The Massaman curry was amazing. Good service & atmosphere in the pub. Note: a service charge was added to our bill when eating.

This is a great little pub with a fine selection of beers and yummy Thai food. Laid back vibe and cosy venue. Great location too as just opposite Southwark Tube and round the corner from the Young Vic and Waterloo Station.

Quaint, cozy pub in the middle of London. The only downside is that there are no longer typical pub dishes, but have switched to Thai cuisine (which was really tasty). But if you're looking forward to fish and chips, you've unfortunately come to the wrong place.

Busy corner pub opposite Southwark tube station. They server food and have a Thia menu but I didn't try it on this occasion. Boxing themed pub with lots of photos and memorabilia on the walls and a large screen TV showing classic fights.

The barman was rude. Better places around.

Pretty good pub with a special atmosphere centered around the idea of a boxing Ring. We went there in September 2023. The food was fine, pub-like, but also Thai food as well - this is fairly original and a good idea. Nice beer selection. Great location.

Disgusting customer service, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Great pub, sat outside with some drinks watching the world go by. The toilet was a tiny cubicle with no area to wait, so was one in one out. Drinks were reasonably priced

In a cozy Thai abode we sat, Beer in hand, content and glad. Tofu Massaman, a culinary delight, Its flavors danced, our taste buds alight. My fiancée, too, indulged with glee, A Thai red curry, a vibrant spree. Not quite as divine as my Massaman, Yet beautiful, comforting—a perfect plan. Together we dined, hearts full and light, Just what we needed on this tranquil night.

Not 100% why, but this boxing pub serves fantastic Thai food!!!

Nice pub with Tai food option. They cooked perfectly the fried rice with beef and vegetables. Delicious, yummy-yummy 😋 One con is - very loud music inside, it's nearly impossible to chat with friends.

Great food, pleasantly surprised to see that a pub like vibe serves Thai food. I had the crispy pork, good portion size, price and great taste with quick service on top.

Precioso pub en una gran ubicación frente a la estación de tren. A pesar de que era bastante tranquilo cuando visité la música de fondo proporcionó un ambiente decente y la decoración es acogedora. Hay algunos taburetes en la ventana que son buenos para obtener una vista con una bebida y hay un montón de mesa de comedor en todo. La comida es todo de temática tailandesa, que es agradable y diferente para un pub. Las bebidas están en el lado caro, pero hay una buena opción con algunas ofertas únicas en borrador. Lo mejor de todo fue el servicio, sin embargo, con el miembro del personal del bar siendo tan acogedor y amable durante toda mi visita. Sin duda ayudó a asegurar mi regreso la próxima vez que voy a pasar!

Lovely pub in a great location opposite the train station. Even though it was fairly quiet when I visited the background music provided a decent atmosphere and the decor is cosy. There’s some stools in the window which are good for getting a view with a drink and there’s plenty of dining table throughout. Food is all Thai themed which is nice and different for a pub. Drinks are on the pricey side but there’s a good choice with some more unique offerings on draught. Best of all was the service though, with the member of bar staff being so welcoming and friendly throughout my visit. Certainly helped to ensure my return next time I’m passing!

Pub is in a great location, fantastic view, nice pub, has good snacks, and the staff is soooooo amazing, Jack looked after us like we were the best people ever. This is my favourite pub from now on, when I am in the area, only this one.

Chill pub with Thai food - one of my fav place for khao soi in London

Walked past a few times on our way back to the hotel, and decided to look it up. It said they serve Thai food, but this is NOT your average Thai food restaurant! Grab a beer, and order some food, you won’t be disappointed!

Wet day in London, stopped for a pint and ended up having some really tasty food. Pleasent surprise!

If you’re into Boxing it is a great pub, a lot of history. Didn’t have any food

Very nice on the Tuesday evening we stopped in for. We just had a few beers, so can't comment on the food. Decent selection of beers on tap though.

1er bar choisi à notre arrivée à Londres.. et quelle déception !! Le serveur du bar a fait aucun de compréhension étant donné que nous ne parlions pas très bien anglais, et surtout absolument pas accueillant et souriant. Ce qui n’est absolument l’image représentative des Anglais. Heureusement que nous avons trouvés rapidement d’autres bar comme le Nelson plus atypique et Accueillant.

Visited twice. Friendly staff, great nostalgic atmosphere. Food a bit bland for Thai, expected some spice or heat but had none. It was pleasant nonetheless. Excellent beers, very loud at 5:30 on a Friday, very hard to have a conversation indoors. We will visit again.

Lovely Pad Thai. Also, we waited for a while for chips, but when we told them they apologized and brought them over soon after. Also Caroline was great, very nice and she took good care of us

A great little pub, that I always visit when I’m south of the river. Love the boxing history that lines every wall, and found the pub through researching my kids’ great great great uncle (on their mum’s side) who retained a world title there in 1910. Popped in there on a Saturday. It was very busy with the rugby on, but it didn’t lose any of its warmth and charm. For me, a pub is all about the people that work there, and special mention has to go to the barmaid working on the day we went in. She was a real throwback to the old school, a really friendly, bubbly, local girl. In too many pubs now there’s no interaction with bar staff other than paying for a drink, and half the time they’re on their phones. But bless her heart, she was running round all over the place and never stopped working, but always had a smile, and when serving always had time for a chat. To be honest she really made the visit for us! A real credit to the pub!

Came here every night we were in London. Great Pub and Atmosphere with a good selection of beers. Only negative is whilst all the staff were amazing the bald fella (possibly Manager) looked so miserable!

A good pub for a drink and in an excellent location. Helpful, friendly staff and an excellent range of beers and drinks on the menu. It is of cause an historic boozer being the site of the first UK boxing ring. Only disappointment is the seating is all stools, come on lets have some lower seating as well for the older folk.

A really lovely pub close to southwark station. Lots of wonderful boxing memorabilia and photos on the wall, a great place for any boxing fan for a quick pint. The service was fast and friendly and lots of tables to sit at, they have a thai food menu and I had a pad thai and a gin with lemonade that came to around £15.00. The food was served quickly it was hot and delicious and the portion size was generous-especially for london. Definitely worth stopping in!

Would have been a 5 star review, but 1 member of staff was moving glasses on out table by grabbing the rim and didn't seen to care. Also saw him pouring Guinness with fingers by the glass rim! Food hygiene knowledge of 0!

We walked around our hotel and stumbled upon the pub. Excellent drinks and wonderful Thai food. Great stop.

Best local you could ask for. Staff are amazing and the Thai food is perfect for a lunch snack or meal whilst you’re out having a few drinks. The music is killer, and the boxing memorabilia around the place, reminds you of the history of the venues name.

Had a few beers and some food here last night with friends. Food excellent - if like me you like Thai. Some nice beer too. However, mainly motivated to write as one of our group is visually impaired and happened to arrive first. Staff spotted the situation and stepped in, finding him a table, helping set up a tab and bringing over a first round. You may say to yourself that this should always happen but according to my friend it doesn't. So kudos and thanks to the staff.

Good spot. Quiet, plenty of seats. Wide choice of beers. Enjoy.

I like the fact this place has something else about it - it's all themed around past boxing matches. Good location just outside Southwark station and had a good range of drinks.

Very interesting pub with plenty of boxing references. Good selection of drinks and pub snacks, a couple of tables were bolted down which made it difficult to put some together for our large party and the music was a alittle loud to hold conversation

We popped in here for some dinner after a long day of sight seeing around London. All the food here is Thai apart from a small children's menu. We ordered chicken and chips for our children and we had a sharing platter of Thai snacks and a curry each. The food arrived really quickly and was piping hot. I can honestly say it was some of the best Thai food I've ever had. It was delicious. I also had an IPA with my meal and that was also very nice. It was also very reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly, greeting us when we arrived and interacting with my daughter when she ordered the food with me. The lady also offered us a box to take away any food we had left (we left nothing because it was so nice). If you are ever in the area, I would definitely recommend a visit to this place 👍

Great pub, a shame the bar tender didn't know what a bitter shandy was!

Schöne Bar mit tollen Biersorten. Sehr nettes Personal. Alle Biersorten können vorher probiert werden. Hier gibt es auch traditionelle Thailändische Küche, haben wir aber noch nicht probiert. Essen sah aber gut aus.

Good food, but small dishes. Got served beer that was 18° varm. When customers complains it is good service to change the beer to a cold one. Of course, we can afford to pay for the new beer, but the lack of customer service makes that I do not recommend the bar.

Friendly and cosy pub with a lot of history. Very busy on a Thursday night but that made the atmosphere even better. Lady behind the bar with the long hair in 2 plaits super friendly and made our night :)

The place was packed and they still found time to please everyone. Loved the fried rice with prawns and the duck spring rolls. Beautiful atmosphere, outdoor sitting also, The Variety of beer was great. Highly recommend it.

Great choice of drink, delicious Thai food, banana fritters were delicious, but above all the staff are super friendly. Great music too! Will be on my list of places to visit again. Buen sitio para tomar una buena cerveza en un típico pub de la ciudad. Lo único que aquí pone comida thailandesa y británica, y solo sirven thailandesa. Eso sí, muy muy buena. Recomiendo el plato especial, aunque pica. El servicio genial.

Called into the Ring for a quick drink between the tube and Travelodge in Southwark. Was heading towards closing time (10.45pm) but were served but made to feel like we were being done a favour... Drinks very pricey (£8.80 for a pint of lager and a bottle of coke) and then rushed to finish and leave - all a little disappointing. Not a pub I’d be rushing back to.

Didn't eat although we were really tempted. Food looked amazing and seemed well priced. This will be our first stop in London next time. Great music too 👌

This pub was hilarious. We came from out of town, and our first night in London was also the night of the World Cup Finals. We watched here and there was a pub cat who stole the show.

Interesting traditional pub, rebuilt after the Second World War, after the original building was destroyed in a bombing raid. The pub is a shrine to the sport of boxing, with the walls adorned with numerous photographs of those who boxed in the original pub in the early part of the 20th Century, which operated as a boxing venue as well as a pub. There are four handpumps which include some ales from local breweries - the Bermondsey Best from the very local Southwark Brewery went down very nicely. They also serve delicious Thai food, which was promptly served and quite reasonably priced for the area. So far, so good; sounds the perfect pub, and rightly gets top marks in each of the individual categories, however, much as I would like to give them more, I feel compelled to downgrade their overall rating to 3 stars as I found the place impossible to relax in. Firstly it was rather noisy for a lunchtime; okay, I can cope with that, but my biggest issue was with the seating arrangement, consisting entirely of high tables and stools. Sorry but I'm not a fan of high tables at all, nor of stools. Surely they could do themselves and customers a big favour by investing in some standard height tables and some decent chairs with backs to them.

Not a ripoff drink, decent space for hanging out inside and some outdoor tables. Convenient.

If you like boxing then we would recommend to enjoy the great display of boxing memorabilia on display. There is a good range of drinks including well-kept real ales from breweries like Southwark and the Park. Tasty Thai food is also available.
