Amazing level of service from one of the ladies at The Ridge Café. I want to thank the member of staff who offered and brought out to the car park, our order to me and my two rescue dogs, one of which, new to us, is very nervous following traumatic times in recent years. It was raining but this lady absolutely wanted to do it, and the dogs were able to meet her - one was enthusiastic and the new boy just looked puzzled, probably wondering who was so kind to bring out this meal to us. It was great, gentle, exposure for ‘new boy’ and a highlight for me too. I’m sorry that I don’t have the lady’s name but she was so good, thank you!

Friendly fast service, had jacket potatoes, and a chicken wrap, service was friendly and fast. Food was fresh and tasty. Also dog friendly which is a plus

Delicious food. Prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes and high quality of food. Everything homemade and delicious. Staff are friendly and cannot do enough to help. Will definitely be back!

After a long walk round the beautiful forest this cafe was perfect. Friendly staff fast service and honest good food. Ordering items not standard choice on the menu was no problem. Clean and fresh reasonably priced.

Coffee has become so weak that we & many people we know have stopped buying it over the last few months. With previous manager it got good, but coffee has gradually got worse & worse recently. Staff friendly but the systems have become really chaotic and inefficient so have to wait ages just for a coffee & scone. Strongly disapprove of the recent change to using disposable cups as the norm - this is an environmental nightmare & should not be happening. It is really hard to get staff to provide a proper cup.

What amazing home made food,great chef's who really know their food combinations. The staff are always helpful and friendly. Highly recommended

Visited a few times recently after doing one of the walking trails. Cakes are great - highly recommend both the coffee cake and carrot cake. Service can sometimes be a bit hit and miss. Popular but plenty of seating so have never had an issue getting a table.

Thursday a.m. an excellent time to visit the cafe after our walk. I was with our rescue Doodle-in-training so the young lady staff member helped by bringing my coffee out to the deck for me, then my cutlery which I’d forgotten. The big breakfast was served quickly, was perfect and kept me going all day. Noisy under-3s were there in abundance but never a nuisance - there is lots of room. Summary - very good food, coffee and choice, supported by well trained, thoughtful staff. And Doodle loved it too!

Disappointing Americano coffees for the two of us this morning, Sat 15 April. Not up to the usual standard. Definitely couldn't have been made by usual staff as so different. Very poor, weak flavour & milk had been put in by staff before serving (please don't do this!) which meant we couldn't choose how much to put in according to taste. If coffee doesn't go back to the good standard it's been we won't be purchasing again. Seemed to be almost all new staff. We hope they'll get training from the previous staff to get the standard back!

Good variety on the menu which kept everyone in the 1-70 age range happy. Large portions at standard prices. Good quality and tasty. The queue to order felt long but moved relatively quickly and the food didn’t take long to arrive. Plenty of tables inside and out. They have high chairs.

Stopped here after talking a walk around the woods. 8 of us in total ate, various things from panini’s, jacket potato’s etc and all food was great. Other facilities on site such as toilets were clean and well maintained and parking costs reasonable. Would head back.

First they make you line up, in the freezing cold, beacuase they’ve shut all indoor seating. Because, errr, covid. Then they make you pay by card (cash not welcome) because, errrr, covid. Why do places just use covid as an excuse for crap service? Was told my hot roll and drink would be 30 minutes. So came back after half an hour to be told it had been placed on the servery and was now cold. No apology from the woman who, if she smiled, her face would have cracked. Seriously….take a pack-up

I bought a hot chocolate for me and one for my kid cost £4.60! We sit outside for drink but not inside! Normally sit indoor like that price. The hot chocolate drinks are nice but shame my kid do not drink it all.

Arranged to meet friend at this cafe but didn't even get to the door. Parking was impossible and expensive and Blue Badge drivers still expected to pay. With costly parking makes a snack exorbitant.

Like this place has always been a little bit pricey... But to charge £3.50 for a basic sausage roll served in a brown bag takes the p*%s... Cheesy chips sold cold with unmelted cheese that tasted like sawdust... 2x sausage rolls 2x cheesy chips 1 pasty 3x cakes 2 x bottled drinks 1 coffee Normally I would complain but I’m not standing in the cov-19 germ queue and my kids were starving. £35... Honestly bring a picnic as you don’t want to be robbed whilst up here.

This is an expensive cafe with the slowest service, and cake counter is coughed on and touched by all sorts! Given that pretty much most anyone can make a fair meal, the food here is not really the main issue. There are a couple of staff working non-stop with little or no back up to support them. The waiting staff are polite enough, then there are a few staff who do a great job of looking busy but effectively do nothing. When the management read this they'll go pointing fingers, probably at the wrong people!! It's the management that are weak, the staff just need structure and process in other words, organising.Today, the queue was out of the door and no change in support or activity to tackle the long queue. I guess the management didn't want to show up at the weekend otherwise they would need to roll their sleeves up.Whoever appointed the licensee really needs to be held accountable.Take a packed lunch next time, it's an expensive cafe...

We went today and as a half term treat decided to get lunch at the cafe, what a mistake. I understand and appreciate that it was probably busier than expected, however, the queue was 40 minutes. After ordering I then had to stand there for a further 20 minutes for a cup of coffee and two portions of chips. The person in front of me waited the same time for chips and a couple of teas. My coffee came out 10 minutes before the chips so was virtually cold by the time we got around to eating. I understand when it busy you will need to wait longer, but there was just no sense of speeding up. The person serving on the till was slow, the people making the hot drinks were slow, people's drinks were getting missed as orders are being written on a piece of paper and being passed along. The menu seems very elaborate and I think they are trying to do too much. It would make more sense to have baguettes and sandwiches made up so people can get those immediately, then you won't get the back log. I get they probably want to do everything to order but that just doesn't work in a small establishment with a massive footfall. All in all, hugely disappointing, we will without a doubt take our own food and drinks next time rather than waste an hour of our day queuing for food.

Met with family for a long lunch after a dog walk & we all ate different things & we all thought it was the best of that item we had eaten in ages. Would definitely return.

Each of us had a different dish and each of us gave it five stars. Portions were large and food was perfect served by pleasant staff.

Conocimos a un amigo aquí en nuestro viaje al sur de Devon. La cafetería fue una excelente parada ya que está justo al lado de la A 38, y pudimos llevar a nuestro perro bien educado por dentro ya que hacía un poco de frío y viento. Es un café, no un restaurante, por lo que el menú es limitado, pero la calidad y la cantidad eran muy buenas. Over priced. It was busy but I was happy to wait but the quality of the food wasn't worth the money we'd paid. Cheese and ham panini was unimpressive and had the thinnest ham known to man. I'll be taking a packed lunch next time.

Six of us ate and each chose differently. Our food was well presented and generous, and all of us enjoyed our meals which were 'home-cooked'. Will definitely eat here again.

Eight of us descended upon the cafe after our Segway session for a fry up. I am a very honest reviewer and don't usually hold back on the critique BUT this was easily the best breakfast I've ever eaten in Exeter. Excellent quality sausages and bacon, super eggs and delicious thick crusty toast. Very impressed with the food. As there were eight of us, the food wasn't super quick coming out but you can't expect them to have eight breakfasts ready to go.The surroundings were clean and homely, staff were very polite and dilligent.This cafe comes highly recommended. Okay, ONE small thing, maybe the price of the breakfast (£6.90) could INCLUDE a cup of tea?

We had hot drinks and cake after our Segway tour and were impressed. The place was clean and tidy with a lovely outside seating area. There's a wood burner which probably makes the place cosy in winter - we will return later in the season to find out! The staff were courteous and friendly and the carrot cake was delicious.

Decided to have lunch after doing the Tree trail and before doing the green route. Both of our lunches were delicious, I had the homemade lasagne and my husband had a chilli jacket potato. The staff were efficient and friendly. We resisted a cake as we wanted to continue our walk but they looked lovely. The meals were good value. We will be back to try the cakes.

Great location for breakfast or a snack, especially if in Haldon Forrest. Located in the central area of the forest facilities. In addition to the inside dining area there is a covered decked area. Good selection of food to satisfy the hunger after walking or biking in the forest. Good quality thick cut bacon!!

We visited here on during the summer holidays and because it was a last minute decision we hadn't packed a picnic so had to give the cafe a go. We were really impressed. It had a lovely, varied menu - reasonably priced. The side salad was lovely and fresh. We had teas, cakes, toasties, ice creams and children's meals and enjoyed the lot. The coffees were excellent. The staff never stopped working and the boys in particular were always smiling and friendly. We will certainly return again and I will happily support this cafe as all their hard work deserves as much support as possible.

As a chef I do appreciate tasty, nice portion food specially in a day out with the kids and that's what I found in the ridge. Very friendly young people staff and great manners. Definitely will be going back soon

After a morning walk around Haldon Forest my friend & I both chose the delicious butternut squash and leek tart with chips at this lovely cafe. The coffee was really good as was the service from the friendly staff. We sat inside and there is also seating outside which is great if you have a dog with you. There is a log burner in the corner & I imagine it makes for a lovely cosy feel after a chilly winter walk, I will be returning to find out.

I would love to give this place 5 stars, and had it not been for one member of staff I would! We stopped by for breakfast on Sunday morning before going to do the Gruffalo Trail - I ordered a full breakfast from the girl on the till with plugs in her ear lobes, who did not smile or come across friendly at all, and asked if they do a kids sausage sandwich. She replied a flat 'no'. So I asked if it would be possible to do a kids sausage sandwich? Again, a flat 'no - we do a sausage bap'. Okay, would I be able to order 1 slice of granary bread and 1 sausage please, as my daughter is 10 months old and won't eat a whole sausage bap? 'No - we don't do that.' But you have bread and sausages so you could add them as extras to my breakfast? With that, she spun around and stormed off to the kitchen. On her return she didn't say one word, just proceeded to write on her pad 1xsausage, 1x G bread. So I asked her 'I presume that was okay?' 'Yes, anything else?' Was her rude reply. I would suggest this young lady didn't want to be here at all, as that was the impression she gave.. That everything and everyone was a nuisance to her. She definitely needs a lesson in customer service as a smile and politeness goes a long way. It wasn't only us who was met with her frosty attitude.. She didn't smile at any of the customers whilst serving. The food, however, was delicious when it arrived. Lovely and fresh and the kitchen had even made my daughter's sausage sandwich for her so I didn't have to in the end. Such a shame that one member of staff lets the place down.

Half way through eating I found a bug in my food. The customer service was terrible and I will never eat here again or recommend it to anyone. Very rude!

This was one of the best cooked breakfasts I've had. Coffee was good too. Staff were courteous and efficient. Impressed to see them working so efficiently as a team on the manager's day off. But beware - it is run by Stockmans and my colleagues have recently had breakfast at their other site at the Exeter Livestock Centre and had whatthey described as a dehydrated lump. Let's hope the Ridge doesn't go that way.

Stopped for food and a well earned hot drink here after a long walk with the family and the dogs and I must say the food was lovely and the staff were all very friendly.I would definitely visit again.

Went for lunch after a walk. Interior decor looked cosy and promising. The lunch menu was limited but had standard items like sandwiches and jacket potatoes. The jacket potato was fine but the burger my wife had was inedible. It was the most processed, cheap piece of "meat" we'd ever seen. Like something out of the value section of the supermarket. The one mouthful we did have was full of gristle. We left the rest. Fair to say won't be eating here again. Shame because it's a great location and deserves a good cafe.

Only popped in for a coffee, we had to have a cake, they looked delicious and were homemade. Ee will be returning to have breakfast on our next visit. Delicious, value for money and wholesome. Although there are a few tempting things for those of us with a sweet tooth: maple syrup and pancakes with bacon! Excellent find, we'll be back!

After a beautiful dog walk my friend and I decided on a spot of lunch at 'the ridge' cafe,half way through a maggot was spotted crawling on the plate! We complained and I can not stress enough how terrible the customer service was, patronising, unacceptable, feeble and totally unsatisfactory. We spent £18 on sandwiches and were told that we couldn't have a refund because that was the policy! Do not waste your money here!
