It was Christmas It was Brighouse It was time for Richard Oastler to serve up his goods. Another in Wetherspoons long list of pubs spread across the UK, we ventured in hungry for dinner. We're not stupid, we certainly were not expecting Gordon Ramsay standard food and hadn't been anticipating a meal that would live in the memory forever. Do you know what? It actually did. For the small amount we paid for our meals, they were absolutely delicious! Can't fault the feast at all. It was served by a friendly member of staff and it arrived steaming hot and smelling divine. We finished our food and commented on how fantastic the meal was. The pub was clean and tidy and we enjoyed our visit very much indeed.

£1.82 for a dessert is an absolute bargain! So good I had 2! Chicken shwarma wrap also a great new addition to the menu, maybe have an option to remove the chilli 🌶 so younger palates can enjoy it Overall a lovely cheap and cheerful Spoons visit

Like many folk we enjoy a ‘Spoons breakfast especially on Father’s Day, Mother’s Day with the family or like today a birthday treat as a couple. It is generally busy for breakfast so tables turn round quickly. Friendly, mostly young staff work their socks off, imho customers not standing in aisles chatting would probably make their jobs a bit easier when carrying plates of food :) we had toast & a small breakfast but pics won’t upload for some reason :(

We eat here regularly for breakfast and it’s always fantastic. Service is fast and no issues with food being cold or raw. Great value and fantastic customer service.

Staff here are fabulous Came for a family meal last night. Food good. Just could do with a few more chips and peas on the fish and chips. My son left a birthday card behind with some money in. We rang up and the staff had found it and put it in the office for us already. We were so pleased with the honesty of the staff. Thank you so much We will definitely be back

This place is amazing! Such a nice local place to eat wether it’s breakfast lunch or tea or even a nice drink there’s always something for someone such delicious food I personally recommend getting an American breakfast it’s gorgeous small meals are actually quite decent and large are very filling Refillable drinks are perfect for if you get thirsty and such fast service we ordered our food and I got my plate in about 10 minutes food was actually piping hot had to cool it down would recommend for a nice meal

Absolutely disgraceful the way things were handled, food came out cold and raw, when this was stated food was taken away not to return for another 25 minutes, when I went over to the bar to complain the bar staff questioned why we hadn’t had our food back yet and stated she’d give a refund and still give the food once it came out, the waiter came out and took the food back when he knew a refund was being put through. So we were left with no food after sitting for almost an hour waiting for it. Absolute shambles.

This place needs a renovation. It very tired and dirty. The ladies toilets are disgusting. Food portions were small. Tables weren't cleared. Wetherspoons used to be good value.

called in here just for a coffee BUT what a treat. A beautiful building, looks like it could have been a church before, lovely booths, decor fantastic, coffe was good too

My order was politely taken (scampi, chips and peas) and the meal was nicely presented and tasted fine. The pub is in a central position and was once a chapel and it's been pleasantly decorated internally. It's not a large pub, but is a good addition to Tim's portfolio.

This was my first visit to this Wetherspoons, ideally situated just off the main Huddersfield to Bradford main road in Brighouse town centre and I hope it won't be my last. It is a former church with private booths and ample seating though some of the tables are a little close together. The food and service as ever were excellent and good value for money given the ever increasing price rises in most other establishments. It would be ideal to return in the summer to sample the outdoor seating area though looking around at the interior of what was once a church was worth the visit on its own.

My order was politely taken, the internal scaffolding has been removed since I came here last year and my meal, a chicken and chilli wrap, with soup and a coffee was well prepared and tasted fine, albeit that the chicken in the wrap was not the normal strips, but seemingly fried bits. Well done.

3 breakfasts all sent back clap cold ,the eggs are precooked then put in fridge to microwave only to be put on plate with cold bacon cold beans and warm sausage,touching the eggs was equivalent to touching a bottle of milk from a fridge,the so called cook must have known what was happening but sent them out anyway,yes we got a refund but damage done should never have happened wont eat here again ,if a manager happens to read this then please take it seriously ,we got the impression the manager on duty knew we were going to send it back.horrible

Always enjoyed a breakfast here at least once a week.However think they've got a new cook,definitely not a chef.Breakfasts now are consistently cold, with solid eggs.Was astonished to hear female cook inform a lady today that bacon and syrup pancakes are always served with cold bacon,it's how they should be! Think she should stay in kitchen and brush up on her culinary skills or Wetherspoons should find a new chef who can cook and doesn't lie to customers.

West to the pub for food while stopped on the nearby canal. Not had a spoons Thursday curry in ages. It was really good, app worked well drinks and food came promptly. It was really tasty and excellent value. The real ale was vg. The building is very interesting as an old methodist Chapel.

Unsmiling service less than helpful waitress 3 had small fish and chips, complete difference in size, more batter than fish, peas of poor quality. Has gone down quality since the refurbishment, Blakeys next time

Visited this evening, first and last time. Barman was visibly impatient when we ordered drinks (why?). He asked my 15 year old daughter for ID when my wife and I ordered drinks (why?). When I pointed out this was inappropriate anther bar worker jumped in and she said she could bring the manager over to speak to us which I politely declined (why?). After we had paid they told us we would have to leave soon as children weren't allowed after 9pm. We went away as far as we could from the bar and within minutes the staff were hovering, observing us, told us several times we would have to leave soon (why?). Completely baffling and unacceptable. We discussed it together, why should they be so aggressive? We could only conclude (my wife is Indian, my two children dual hertitage) that it was racially motivated. As sad as it is unacceptable, it is also illegal.

Visit this pub many times after canal walk. Always seem to get cloudy beer, just returned two pints of different beers. Obviously cleaning regime not been followed. Not good enough, training required. Food is reasonably good however, if you want cheap & cheerful.

I some times call in during the week or at a weekend for either a bite to eat or drinks I know they have had a lot of work going on inside but the staff plus service has been pretty good and efficient I have no complaints the prices are cheap has chips the food has been fine every time I’ve eaten in and once again the staff so helpful plus professional at all times

Although the interior has scaffolding in due to repainting upstairs, my visit was pleasant. My order was taken politely, my meal served quickly (curry and chips) and it tasted fine. Thank-you. Nice location and venue too.

First and last visit today , wrong meal given and a meal forgotten so a 5 year old had to sit and wait for food while everyone else had theres. Shocking service , staff with teenage attitudes huffing and puffing when asked to sort the food out. Ended up eating cold food by the time the problems were sorted. Staff smashing glasses at side of children and only picking up main bits leaving rest risking injury to customers , children aswell and not even being bothered when we told them to clean it for safety reasons. Also told not to visit again when we complained to manager. What happened to the customer is always right??

Had hoped to have breakfast here, but too late, so had their pizza and beer offer. The pizzas were the best we have eaten outside of an Italian restaurant. The building is an old Wesleyan chapel, well worth a visit even if you don’t want to partake of food or drink.

We use this place a lot for food,,the staff are lovely & attentive.The food is great and reasonable.The staff are on top of Covid safety and we feel safe.The only issue we and many others have is one female manager who speaks to her staflikdirt..Nprofessional at all.I

Covid means we have to accept change, and the staff have made it as easy as possible to accept the changes, still great value, and quick service ,and the screens are discreet and relaxing Great friendly staff

Use your app to order drink then left there for 20 mins or so and get it yourself thought the purpose of the app was to stay at your table

Went in for lunch ,,got served quickly at bar ..same girl who served us brought our food,nothing was too much trouble.A glass shattered and cut her hand yet she still smiled and carried on ..overall a lovely lunch.

Came to your pub and left very quickly you didn't follow guidelines or take my details on visit. There was no social distancing and I actually left as it was full of underage drunks trying to start fights. It was over crowded and I wouldn't say it was following government guidelines hope this feed back helps. Won't be returning.

Quick and efficient service. Breakfast hot and good value for money. You can add more items to your breakfast but does cost extra. They are happy to swap an item for something else e.g. I don't like tomato but wanted an extra hash brown and they did it. Yeh I recommend here for breakfast

The place was packed and it was only 11.30, there were only a couple of tables free but all were dirty with plates and glasses and could do with a wipe down. Ordering on the app is really easy and the drinks came quickly. The food was fine and also came fairly quick. The staff were a bit grumpy and didn’t look very happy in their work!

Good pub serving local real ales at good prices. Selection of lagers if your taste buds are non existent. As always in Wetherspoons tables are never very clean, this does need addressing.

There are far too many tables of 4 in this spoons as looking around most people are couples. The measures are no where near as good as the hedley verity in leeds. The spoons is in a nice church like building but requires some music in the evening. Prices are marginally cheaper than huddersfield.

Always quite busy but the empty tables are usually full of plates not cleared away, the breakfasts are cheap but of poor quality, thinnest bacon hardly any beans tasteless sausages, The place is always dirty ,food on the floor and disgustingly dirty toilets. The staff are good but there isnt enough of them and they look worked off their feet. The breakfast across the road at the calder is better

Sometimes even though tables are unoccupied they are usually fulll of used plates cups glasses etc as there doesnt seem to be enough waiting staff. Have left on a couple of occasions because of this and will now eat breakfast across the road at the calder , and the quality is better there too.

I`ve been in three times now, and on each occasion I`ve failed to get served, even in midweek. I love the fact that `spoons re-use old buildings and give them a new lease of life, but standing at the bar for 10 minutes whilst being totally ignored by what passes as bar staff who serve and chat to their regulars from either side of or behind you (or just talk amongst themselves like on the Wednesday evening when there was more staff than punters at the bar and I STILL couldn`t get served) means I won`t bother in future. So I can`t comment on the beer, can`t comment on the food, can only say if it shuts it won`t be a loss, and the `staff` will probably be unemployable anywhere else.

This is a pub well worth a look juts to see the stylish interior and marvel at the classic interior. This is not your tradtional pub as you will see when you walk in.

I ordered steak with a baked potato. It was okay but a litlle overcooked. It was steak night so good value as it included a pint. We also had a coffee ( free refills). The coffee was lukewarm but the machine had stopped working so no replacement or refills, instead we had to settle for a cup of tea. Because of this I don't feel I could score more than average

Good food, great value. Tables usually need a good wipe down. On the whole we have had some great family meals here.

Went in after a long hard days work and ordered food and drink and indeed received food and drink very quickly and tasted very good. the staff were also very good and provided excellent service. overall a positive experience.

We met here for a quick drink before going on for something to eat elsewhere. It was quite busy its a typical Wetherspoons it was once a lovely old chapel. They had a good selection of real ales, Plenty of early diners.

Visited for breakfast, food served promptly and wasn’t too bad, as always good value for money. The place is looking tired and run down, it needs a refurbish and a good clean, the floors were very grubby, the tables weren’t much better, the toilets were also unclean and very smelly.

Travelled from Sheffield for a day in Brighouse, had the traditional breakfast and 3 mugs of tea, and all for just over a fiver, what's not to like about that.Will definitely visit again.

Went for the Thursday Curry Club deal, had the Chilli Chicken Vindaloo with rice & Garlic Nan Despite the HOT warning, it was fine. Other meal was a veggie burger with fries & onion rings, also first class. Beers were all in form, especially Abbot Ale. £14.25 for two good meals including drinks.

Great pub, which is as i would expect for this chain. But on this occasion i will have to mark it down, as for the second week running, i was unable to have poached eggs with my beans on toast. Apparently the delivery had not arrived!!

Nice booths in separate area, food is always good and obviously v good value as per, can’t fault it really

Called into the The Richard Oastker after a very enjoyable early evening meal at Bellinis.

Visited here with my 2 children, sister-in-law and her 2 children. First of all the table was piled high with glasses, plates, empty drinks cartons, then when we ordered we asked for our table to be cleaned which never happened, we had to hunt for someone to come and clear it. The girl who took our order must have been new, it’s the only explanation! She gave us half filled glasses of drinks, I asked for a carton of smoothie but was given a spring water, when our order arrived the bbq chicken panini came without chicken! My son had to wait for a fresh one but everyone else had finished eating by the time it arrived. A half hearted apology was the maximum we received.

What a dirty place sat In at first but tables and floor mucky went out tables piled high with plates and glasses the place is filthy the manager want s sacking it really is discussing I would have given this a 0 we visited Saturday the 3 rd August

Visited for breakfast on 18/07/19. All breakfasts in our group were luke warm. The fried eggs were solid , so much that they looked like plastic joke eggs. Mentioned it to waitress when she started to collect plates. She ignored me & avoided coming back for the rest of the plates. Very disappointing.

Called for lunch last Thursday and as it was a lovely sunny day decided to eat in the "beer garden". The place was filthy every single table overflowing with glasses napkins and full ashtrays...the tables were sticky and wet and clearly hadn't been wiped in ages.

Never in my 2 years of visiting this place have we ever had a bad meal. It's reasonably priced for very good food. Gorgeous building. Would prefer the garden to be bigger. Quite often feels very cramped and a lil smokey on a summers day. Don't forget to download the app and get table service within minutes of ordering.

Cheap and cheerful, good quality lunch with refillable coffee for less than £10.lots of choice from a big breakfast ,quick sandwich or proper meal

After going to the pub for a drink after a business meeting A young bar lad tall with dark curly hair with one of the worst attitudes iv encountered in a long time ... I had gone especially for a drink and a meal we all decided not to eat or even have a drink ... it may be the last time I go there ...as a business man recognize star quality, which this guy or management team doesn't have ! get some decent staff and I might be back

It’s a Wetherspoons so you get what it says on the tin! Excellent value - drinks and meals. Staff don’t always clear tables - but then they’re always busy!!

Impressive interior features but a little grubby now . Breakfast good and beer excellent as well as good value . Staff pleasant .

We called in here for breakfast on a recent trip to Brighouse. What a stunning venue, an old church still with alot of original features. The staff all seemed friendly and attentive. I had the Eggs Benedict and I can honestly say it's the best I have had, delicious and plentiful.

Recently visited on a family visit. Good value, typical Wetherspoons format in a great venue. Definitely call in again on our next visit to the area.

As epected with a Wetherspoons plenty of Choice with Food & Drinks staff very good attentive, helpful and always clearing and cleaning tables. Plenty of rooms with open tables and booths.

Since Steve returned back to The Richard Oastler he has worked exceeding hard to bring his cask beers back up to tip top condition. Due to his dedication and his team I am pleased to say they were awarded the Cask Marque and well deserved too.

I went last Saturday afternoon to a quick drink and bite to eat. As I was on my own and couldnt find a table anywhere near the bar I decided to order by the app which I have installed on my phone but have never got round to using. I had only just finished paying for my order when a gin and tonic was delivered to my table. My food arrived really quickly too

Bland food ,uninterested staff, loud punters, cheap beers, great building but at The end of the day it’s spoons what do you expect others than the above

My daughter and I go to this Wetherspoons as opposed to a closer one for its friendliness and well cooked meals without fail. Today we were served by Amber who went out of her way to help keep our food warm when my daughter was late for her lunch break. She even took time out of a very busy service to make sure we had everything we needed. It's no surprise this place is always so busy but waiting time is minimal so even that is managed well. I am a wheelchair user and had my scooter today, access is fab.

Stopped here for breakfast en route. What a fabulous building. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Worth it to have your breakfast ina church pew!

At my age you worry about bad behaviour especially on a Saturday night. So very pleased that we were able to have an enjoyable drink just before Christmas. Very efficient bar staff. drink prices very very reasonable.

Went for a breakfast but once again there was no vegatrian sausage, this is not first time. What I got one egg,one slice of toast half a tomato , one hash brown and a spoonful of cold beans. That was full price for the breakfast.

Went to the bar 2 minutes before last order, refused service by rude staff. Clearly staff wanted to leave

The food is really very good and the steaks are excellent. Portion size is more than ample. Staff are very helpful and friendly

Totally random stop off for breakfast. And what a lovely breakfast we had all perfectly cooked nice and hot ,fresh ,good portions. Could not find fault. In also an amazing building.

You get what you pay for and if you want it warm and filling then you're in, but the mushroom risotto that I had was like garlic rice pudding and I jest not. The beer's good though and excellent value too and the staff are honest and friendly and know how to deal with drunks. Well done to them!

Very popular at lunch time, staff kept very busy! Though they coped quite well. Decent size portions and good selection of food.

If you are looking for good food without having to pay a fortune then this is a good place to eat. Good selection and service was good too.

On our way to Bury FC for the football and having decided to pull in another spoons en route, that's why we ended up here in Brighouse on a Saturday morning. Had to park a couple of streets away as the town was quite busy. First impressions, another typical Wetherspoons "restoration with character" pub.

Lovely breakfast, great place to catch up with friends. Does unlimited coffee which is great. Like it here.

For value for money you can't beat it - but for goodness sake wetherspoons get more staff as they never have time to tidy and keep tables available

Have visited many Wetherspoons over the years and realise food can be very hit and miss. Visited here for breakfast and ordered scrambled egg on toast with bacon. Absolutely awful, if I had been blindfolded I would have had no idea what I was eating other than it was cooked in dirty fat. No member of staff asked about our food so only complained when he came to clear the plates. I told him it was dreadful and tasteless and was informed he would tell the chef, how reassuring is that ? Found the whole place dirty, scruffy and uninviting. Only good point, hence the one star, is the coffee. Will definitely not be visiting again any time soon. Not that Wetherspoons will be bothered. The old adage comes to mind , you get what you pay for, but having said that at least it should be edible.

We called in for a quick bite to eat, cheap and cheerful. Food good. What you expect from Wetherspoons. Has we finished our meal and ready to go we started getting verbally abuse from people on next table shouting over at us. We ignored it. The guy seemed to have had too much to drink with two women with him. He then was making horrible burping noises and belching loudly towards us so we decided to leave. As we got up to leave the man got more abusive and I confronted him only to get more abuse and the woman saying he had a condition. If you call not been able to hold your alcohol a condition what can I say. Nobody in the place said anything or staff didn't come to our assistance. This place is clearly used to backwaters with no intellect for clientele. We will not be visiting again shame on the people who sat and watched this happen and shame on Wetherspoons for excepting such racist behaviour.

Cheap drinks n quiet if not an event going on in brighouse shame our british weather is so bad , looks like a cheap xmas menu too

This review is not so much about the staff or food. As with most Wetherspoons the staff were friendly and efficient. Our meals were as to be expected and faultless.

I particularly like the mixed clientel, ranging from coffee drinking ladies, retired locals & the young of the area interspersed with families and small groups of friends or colleagues on an outing. The old church setting is good, & the outside areas offer smoking & non smoking areas.

Great atmosphere. Cheap and cheerful and never had a bad meal from here. Staff seem friendly. Nice outside area lovely in the sunshine. Order from the app using PayPal and it's delivered to your table. We go every couple of weeks for a quick n enjoyable tea washed down with a good old pint.

The food here is great value. It's an interesting building but lacks a little atmosphere unless you sit in the little booths or in the adjoining room which is very pleasant. The service can be rather slow at the bar but the staff are mostly friendly. It is beginning to look a little shabby and the seats could do with a good clean.

Richard Oastler had been advertising Moorhouses beers "brewery tap take over". I was really excited and noted the date in my diary. I walked 3 miles to reach the pub & in the warm weather because I did not want to drink and drive. I was looking forward to sampling several moorhouses beers & was disappointed when I reached the pub. The only moorhouse beer available was Black cat which had been on since 3rd August and 2 empty pumps. Moorhouse's brewery has an excellent range of beers such as Ice witch my favourite and black panther although not to sure if it is available. Walked straight out and went to Calder instead.

We visited this branch of Wetherspoons on a Sunday morning for an early breakfast before going onto my husband’s studio.

Spacious and tastefully decorated this large old chapel in the heart of the town is a great venue. Very busy, but staff on the ball and two outdoor areas to enjoy the glorious sunshine. Usual ‘spoons fare, one of the cheapest we have been to, the variety of good real ales seemed larger than usual. Impressive gallery, complete with pews and organ ad to the charm.

I have been here a few times for drinks. It is a lovely old converted chapel and it has retained many of the original features. There has always been a good atmosphere with the usual good value.

Called at the Wetherspoon’s The Richard Oastler in Brighouse at about 4:30 pm with my wife and grandchildren for a meal, all the food appeared to have started out good, I ordered a large mixed grill, my grandson a standard mixed grill, my wife & Granddaughter ordered chicken, we had quite a wait considering the place un-usually was only about 10% full. When the meals came they were all “WARM” not “HOT” the egg on my mixed grill was “COLD” and looked like plastic with a solid yolk , I sent the egg back but the replacement was little better, I had to ask for the inclusive 6 onion rings that they had forgotten. In all not a very good experience. Slow service, only warm food, missed items and to mention again the “EGG”. The quality of the food we received looked to be OK when it arrived in the kitchen, the problem must therefore be with the kitchen. We will be a while before risking going for meals at Brighouse Wetherspoon’s again.

After looking at the menu we went in for veggie breakfast, place was busy, so waited over 30mins for it to arrive. Looked at the eggs, burnt on the bottom, snotty on top, pushed to one side, then I found a hair in my hashbrown or beans don't know which, mid chew. Needless to say i didn't finish my breakfast, up & walked out in discust, will not be eastimg there again. Also when you ask for fresh orange juice it comes out of a carton for which they charge £1.89 for.

So, we eat in Wetherspoons a lot, a really lot! Today we came for breakfast, which is usually very good. My daughter’s usual eggs benedict came with barely any holandaise sauce.

Scruffy horrible place, called in for quick drink 2 beers, 1 gin and a lemonade for me, my glass was covered in pink lipstick was taken back to bar to complain, and was told have no half glasses, so they poured the same same drink into a pint glass. No exchange no apology nothing.
