The food was to probably the highest standards I've had ( beating Michelin star restaurants I've been to elsewhere). Money / cost doesn't cone into the equation... What a gem! Incredibly well thought out menu, with explanations of the dishes straight from the horses mouth. Particularly loved the Markmite butter. Gorgeous Pot au feu of chicken. Great service, wonderful atmosphere, and really excellent cooking from Mark Sargeant. Bravo, 👏 highly recommend.

Came here for my mums birthday on Friday, must admit the service was inevitable. The wine selection was second to none and most of the food was delicious. I must admit I was slightly disappointed with the chicken main, underwhelming and dry, despite being encouraged to have that over the porchetta which, after trying I thought was the much tastier main. However the seafood lasagne is one of the most beautiful tbh things I have ever eaten. Dessert was the panna cotta and the textures for me were all off. However I will be coming back to MS because I can't get enough of that seafood lasagne. Thanks for a great night

To say this perfect evening spent at restaurant MS was solely down to the delicious food would be unjust. As soon as we were welcomed at the door by Chef we knew it was going to be an experience to treasure. My wife echoes a previous review in saying the seafood lasagne was the tastiest they had ever eaten. I would go further and say everything was amazing. This is a restaurant that is filled with enthusiasm and food passion. They go that little bit further than the rest and we will be back very soon!

I dined with partner on 12th October. Everything has been said about this place is absolutely true. Amazing food. Wonderful dining theatre. I first had the Koffmam trotter in 1980 at Tante Claire. Again twice in 1998 at Rhodes City. This dish was lovingly recreated. MS has worked with the greats and is in my opinion one of them. He takes a personal interest in each diner and makes you feel he is only cooking for you. I have eaten at great restaurants all over the world but this one stands out as probably the best. It has everything you could wish for. No extra side dishes to worry about. Huge portions. Everything on one plate all seasoned. I will definitely return. The cost nowhere near reflects the quality, ambience and almost surreal experience. Thankyou so much Mark you and your staff are amazing. I will be following your success. Nobody could ever be disappointed in this place.

We went for dinner for our anniversary and had the most fabulous meal. The hosts are so friendly and welcoming and make you feel so at home. The food was absolutely fantastic. The seafood lasagne was definitely one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten! And the value for money is ace. We had the 3 course dinner but you also get brought 3 extra small plates! We had to take our last course home on a box. Mark came and chatted to every table. The whole evening was great. We will definitely be back soon.

Where do I start! The most friendly welcome, a cute little bar area for pre dinner drinks, and then an outstanding 3 course dinner served by a brilliant waiter Amit. The flavor’s in the food were exceptional and the portions were really decent! Mark Sergeant was very present throughout the evening, bringing out some of the dishes, asking us our thoughts, and making us laugh. What was really refreshing was not being kicked off your table 2 hrs after arriving. In fact, we were still eating at gone 10pm having arrived at 19:30! There were perfect gaps in between each course. This really is a little gem of a restaurant where they have got everything spot on. Tierney who was serving up fabulous drinks was also incredibly friendly and helpful in getting us transport back to the station. Thank you! We will definitely be back 😊

We had an incredible lunch experience at The Restaurant MS, not once but twice on Sunday! Both times, we enjoyed their Sunday Special menu, which is currently priced at just £38.50 per person. It includes 5 fantastic courses, and each one was absolutely exceptional. The quality of the food, the service, and the atmosphere made it such a memorable experience. It's hard to believe you can enjoy such a high-level dining for around £50-60 per person. Incredible value for money! We'll definitely be coming back for more. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an outstanding meal in Kent.

I can’t talk more highly of Marks cooking and the excellent style and relaxed polite efficient but above all friendly service you get at his Restaurant MS. Sargey’s seafood lasagne starter has such an excellent foam and sauce, it is sublime and my current favourite. I had the aged steak and parmigiano frites this time, and the reduction Madeira jus is such a great flavour. All such good value too for the fantastic quality

Just enjoyed whst I woukd call a “banging” lunch. Opted for the 7 course lunch menu which started off with what I can only describe as amazing honey focaccia with Markmite whipped butter. Followed by a couple of very tasty little tartlets. Foie gras , seafood lasagne, rump of lamb. All really tasty and rich. Service was great even though they were missing a couple of staff. Mr Sargent served us himself and had some banter with us. Relaxed atmosphere and nice decor. Highly recommend it. Well done and thanks to Mark and his team

What a great find this place was. Mark Sargeant certainly is a master of his trade. We had exquisite dishes as part of the tasting menu, the wine was very good and priced fairly I thought. The service was attentive, kind and informative. Mark himself explained several dishes at the table which I genuinely appreciated. He was very gracious and down to earth. We had lunch on a very quiet Wednesday in early August but the food was so good we were fully absorbed. Portion sizes for a tasting menu are generous so go in hungry. Thanks for a lovely lunch.

We have dined in Folkestone and the South East for many years and never before found this level of epicurean delight. We started with the new addition to the starter menu Prawn Cocktail, but believe me its as you have never tasted it before! the tangy sauce was to die for and the sustainable caviar was a perfect finishing touch. Main courses were lamb and steak too simple a description for such delicious and well constructed dishes. The meat was perfection, the plate composition original and in perfect harmony. We both finished with Panna Cotta which was topped with what looked like baby grapes suffused with a delicious alcohol. The restaurant can possibly give a more detailed description. Overall although the service, the cooking, the presentation are exceptional its the amazing tastes that will grab you, an original mix of flavours and textures that are a treat, one that we will be experiencing again soon. Well done Mark and the front of house staff. Exceptional!

My Bestest Brother from another Mother treated us to lunch at MS Brasserie. Everything was absolutely deliciously outstanding. WOW!! After arriving, seeing the famous green awning and walking down the steps into the restaurant (somewhere I've wanted to dine for so long) we were greeted by a bubbly, happy, well presented and professional front-of-house lady and I knew instantly, we were in for a treat! The restaurant is spotless, modern, comfortable and stylish with some fascinating framed and signed photographs of everyone from our late Queen to Peter Doherty donning the walls. The menu is as skilled and unique as the man at the helm who created it, Mark Sargeant. Mark manages to produce the most amazing traditional French flavours with modern twists that I've never experienced ever before. Everything is well thought out, presented immaculately, but more importantly, the flavours and textures are spot on!! If you want to know some of the work involved to produce food at this level, just ask Mark to explain the how the Madeira sauce and the Pomme Mousseline is made to accompany the restaurant's most famous dish, your mind will be blown! Mark came out several times to explain the intricate courses, the produce and the history and method behind them, which was incredible. From the honey/rosemary focaccia with smoked cods roe, 'Markmite' butter and Wagyu beef dripping to the RMS trifle and coffees to finish, our expectations were over-achieved in every aspect of our visit. I will now dine there regularly, I just wish I was local so I could visit multiple time's a week. Oh, they also have an amazing old and rare single cask single malt Scotch whisky selection!

What a breath of fresh air! Wholly unpretentious, tasteful decor, fabulous service and excellent food. We were actually somewhat nervous as we don't typically dine at higher end restaurants but the ambiance was so relaxed and the staff so friendly we felt instantly comfortable and at ease. It was also a really nice touch to see Chef Mark walk around meet people and introduce the dishes. We had the Sunday lunch menu. The food was perfectly cooked, some great flavour combinations and superb value at £35 per person. Will definitely return to try the tasting menu. Pro tip: if you are a whisky drinker like me, give the 12yr old Yamazaki a try, not that many places stock it and it's a fabulous dram - you'll also earn brownie points with the bartender if you do!

We went for a genuinely memorable meal dining for the Sunday lunch menu. The price is staggeringly reasonable when viewed against the quality of the food/experience. The food was delicious, bold and well balanced. It was one of those rare meals that feels like a genuine experience. Staff were attentive throughout and clearly believed in the food and what they’re trying to do there. Excellent from start to finish and we will certainly be back soon. I would also add that when we mentioned my mother had Alzheimer’s and may struggle with elements of the menu. They handled it brilliantly and the chef actually made a special effort to make her food manageable, as well as beautiful, without drawing any attention to either her or other diners. They handled it brilliantly.

I can never get through on the phone, they never return calls and I've tried to call in to book but the doors are always locked, I can't imagine how this place survives, I live around the corner and walk past most days, lights are always on, with full dinner service tables, but never one person in it. We were looking for a Sunday lunch venue, but not the usual carvery affair, & a friend mentioned Mark Sargeant’s newish restaurant in Folkestone. We knew Mark of old, from his Gordon Ramsay days thru to Rocksalt, so booked. What a wonderful surprise - although with his background it shouldn’t have been. We chose the prix fixe 5 course Sunday lunch menu: Amuse bouches arrived - a beautiful plate of four different little mouthfuls, including a chocolate macaron with fois gras & a sharp raspberry powder - sublime - delivered to us by chef patron Mark, who gave us fabulous descriptions! Starters - omelette Arnold Bennett, pulled beef brisket terrine - marvellous; Mains - leg of rabbit, & a bouillabaisse with cod cheeks - superb; Pre-desert - Apple compote with lemon sorbet & foam - beautiful palette cleanser; Desert - treacle tart (essentially) with clotted cream ice cream & morello cherries, & a “fromage blanc” (actually a really light cheesecake) with rhubarb. These are really brief descriptions of sublime food - & in no way does it justice. Our waiter Ollie was an enormous success - young, helpful, knowledgeable, & Mark was generous with his time, despite actually cooking in the kitchen (an unusual occurrence these days) he spoke to every diner, & served many of the dishes himself. This may not be everyone’s idea of Sunday lunch, but they really should get with the programme - this place is divine.

We were gifted a Christmas voucher and decided to spend it on lunch. We tried the tasting menu and were blown away by the quality of food, execution and generous portion sizes. Being a pescatarian Mark offered to substitute a vegetarian dish for the sea bass from the main menu. Totally unexpected and really appreciated that. We also loved the decor, service and style of the restaurant. The only dish that we couldn't finish, was the last one with rhubarb, sorbet panna cotta dessert. It was just a bit too big and had a lot of different flavours within one dish. Something a lot smaller and with less going on would be welcome. We will definitely be coming back, perhaps for an evening meal.

Really rather fantastic. The decor, glassware, service, ambience and food were excellent. Mark came out often to serve the food and interact with his guests which was a really nice touch. You could see how passionate he was about his restaurant. I dined with a member of my family with a gluten sensitivity and they could not have been any more accommodating. She said the gluten free bread they provided was the best she had ever had. We had the set lunch menu which was fabulous. The Yorkshire pudding filled with onions was to die for ! We will be back and telling all of our friends!

I am not sure where to start with my review as I have so much to say. Restaurantms has been on my bucket list for some time, but living in Bungay is not round the corner. However, the need became too great and it became a must visit. The whole experience was beyond any expectation. Mark himself was so kind, he invited me into his kitchen for a photo, he knew my name on arrival and when I handed him our gift, Baron Bigod cheese, which is made 100 metres from our house, he was genuinely grateful and obviously knew the cheese, straight away. We had the 5 course set menu which can only be described as sensational and it was such good value go money. The house red wine, was absolutely delicious, We were in good heaven. The time, passion, and thought that went into each dish was incredible. The whole meal was faultless. The staff, were all incredibly polite, attentive and passionate. For anyone who loves food, you must go to this restaurant . It is the best meal I have eaten to a long while. Thank you so much for making our day, so pleasurable and memorable. We will be returning as although you ticked my bucket list, it has gone back on the list again 😊

Absolutely the best restaurant in Folkestone. We love the food scene down here but this just blows everything else out of the water. We had the prix fixe menu which was phenomenal!!! Absolutely sublime. Mark and his team cannot do enough to make you feel welcome! The food is simply sensational. Every dish was to die for. Rich in taste. Elegant! Fantastic lunch with an old friend who was celebrating a special birthday.The menu had quite a few changes from my last visit, as usual the food was excellent and the front of house team are only too happy to explain any dish in detail if you are unsure what to order. Mark made several visits to our table to ask if the food was okay, in particular the lamb dish which was new on the menu today. Will be back soon.

We have eaten at the Restaurant MS several times and it has always been excellent. Today we had a wonderful lunch, I started with artichoke soup, with mushrooms and a Parmesan crisp on top, followed by fish with a brown butter and shrimp sauce, followed by a lovely chocolate dessert. My husband started with boudin noir, had the same main and finished with a blancmange. He loved his food. As always the service was excellent and the snacks and pre dessert are delightful.

Chose this resturant because it had amazing reviews and we wanted ‘somewhere special’ for our night away in Folkestone. The service was great, just the right balance of attentiveness & attention to detail without being intrusive. We chose to go straight to the main course - BEEF WELLINGTON for 2. It was truly divine. A lovely touch was meeting the Chef who came to chat as he was concerned he would disappoint us with the wait for the main course. We loved hearing his back story and wish him every success with his latest venture. We loved everything and can’t wait to return.

I had the most amazing meal! I have not had a meal with wine that good in a while. Matthew the manager, was engaging and very knowledgeable on wine and pairing. What a disappointment. I do agree that I wasn’t in the best frame of mind….I had just been to a best friends funeral but I was so looking forward to going here. We have been to all of of Marks restaurants in the past and absolutely loved them. My husband and I arrived and the staff were cordial…..no more than that. We were asked if we wanted water. That was it! We ordered gin and tonic which came. Okay, order was taken, staff were not okay with the menu. Wine we had to ask for. Took an age to arrive. Food was beautiful but all in all not a good experience. No atmosphere and staff were very blah. We ate regularly at The Swan, Rocksalt and The Wife of Bath which were all fantastic. As a diner you felt very special but not at this restaurant.

Nothing about this charming little restaurant disappoints. The team are friendly and welcoming. The decor is imaginative - it thoughtfully retains some of the original features from when the building was a village shop but adds a lot of style and sophistication. Every one of the eight courses on the tasting menu was delicious and beautifully presented and explained. The care in the sourcing and preparation is clear. The wine selection offers the best of English and world wines. We had a fabulous evening, I would recommend the Fox and Hide unreservedly and wish them continued success and acclaim.

Had cheese omelette and chips. The chips were hot and not bad but the cheese omelette was, by far, the worst I've ever had. The cheese was almost tasteless and was rubbery. The omelette was dry and cold. Made me feel quite sick. Will never return.

Such lovely food yet the service let you down. The lamb was cooked well and fell apart. Naan bread thin, crispy and tasty. Great flavours all round, Sadly we seemed to have been overlooked during our dining. We were offered one drink in the 1 hour and 45 minutes we sat in the restaurant. We also didn’t receive the chef’s complimentary amuse bouches, despite seeing other tables having them. We weren’t offered dessert or coffees either. Upon payment of the bill we did mention the service to the waiter, he said they were understaffed. Such a shame!
