Visited a few weeks back, excellent food. Bit quiet on a lunch service but wonderful knowledge of menu and great taste.

Not their fault, had booked a 18.30 to celebrate my wife's birthday with her . At 17.50 my wife was asked to work late. I rang to cancel as was told it was to late and there was a cancellation policy and my card was charged £150.00 ,

Absolutely brilliant experience at Hide and Fox. The atmosphere is nice and cozy and the waitresses were superb. We went for the 8 course taster and there wasn't a single thing on there we didn't like. 100% will be coming back again soon!

Amazing food and service, couldn't have asked for more. 5 course tasting menu was perfect both for me and my partner who had no seafood.

Went for the 3 course lunch special. Couldn’t fault the food, the smoked cod roe cigar amuse Bouche was particularly delightful, but it was all excellent. The lunch special also makes it more affordable and it was sufficient quantity wise for us both. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. We will be back.

What a meal! A fabulous 8 course tasking menu that left us happy, full and wanting to come back. We went for the vegetarian tasting menu and were not disappointed. A beautiful selection of dishes and service that was some of the best we have ever experience. The team were fantastic from start to finsh.

Hands down one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. We tried the 8 courses with wine and every bite was amazing and packed with flavor. There were two members of staff serving and I think they deserve special mention as both of them were perfect. Polite, friendly and engaging but not so much that it felt forced or intrusive and they were more than happy to answer questions and talk about the food and wine being served. Impeccable food and flawless service so would highly recommend

Having received a recommendation to go to The Hide and Fox from someone who knows the food industry inside out, my wife and I asked two friends to join us on our first visit there. All four of us know what good food is, and all four of us have had disappointing food and service at Michelin Starred restaurants. Each of us was excited about going to the Hide and Fox, and each of us loved and enjoyed every minute that we were there. The second that we walked in we knew that we were going to have a great time. The staff were wonderful and provided impeccable service that was coupled with great senses of humour. We had the five course tasting menu but added a couple of extras. The food was sublime, and our choice of cocktails, and English, Greek and Lebanese wines added to the wonderful explosions of different flavours which were already challenging our senses. At the end of the meal the owner/master chef Allister came out to speak to us, which is always a nice touch, and was greatly appreciated. This place is special and unlike many of the 'top' restaurants, it doesn't disappoint!!

Had another lovely evening at Hide and Fox, every course was well presented and tasted incredible. Lovely staff who introduced each course and were happy to make alterations to the courses for my wife.

Not our first Michelin star restaurant but so far without doubt the best. Genuinely nothing whatsoever to criticise. I couldn’t say about the others.

A low key looking spot set in (I think) an old shop. Small (26? Covers). The piped music appropriate as it could be a bit formally quiet without. Faultless service - friendly but knowledgeable. Don't be put off by 8 courses - they are manageable through perfect sizing and pace. Every one was fabulous. Standouts the pasta with pecorino and spinach and the Romney Lamb with smoked anchovy but that seems unfair to the others. Perfect flavour combos in each. Excellent white and red from Italy and a cheeky Gewurtz with Eton Mess. A one Star doesn't really do justice (having eaten in quite a few) but it may not be thought to be a two Star space. I hope not.

The restaurant is small but in no way feels like you are sitting on top of each other. Even in a full restaurant it feels like a private dining experience. The decore is simple but elegant. From start to finish it feels like you are experiencing a high level of knowledge and experience. And it is DELICIOUS! Alice and Allisters passion and care is obvious. When Alice talks to you about wine it makes you want to know everything there is. Very special place. Thank you.

We have just returned from a fabulous lunch at Hide & Fox. We had the five course tasting menu and every plate looked and tasted amazing. One of our friends is vegetarian and it was so lovely that every plate of hers looked and she said tasted as amazing as ours, which is rare. She usually has one choice on the menu. This cute little restaurant has been added to our short list and we are already looking forward to our return visit. You must try it !

We’ve been to the Hide and Fox three times over the last few years and it has never failed impress. The food is outstanding and the service and front of house exceptional. We enjoyed the 5 course tasting menu with friends on a Saturday evening. This was accompanied with an amuse bouche and the amazing home made freshly baked bread. We had a bottle of Simpsons rose followed by a couple of bottles of the pinot meunier Simpson Wine Estate and a selection of dessert wines. The food, wine and service was exceptional - 11/10. Allister is an incredibly talented chef. This is our favourite restaurant in Kent and probably the best Michelin star restaurant in the county.

A beautiful and very personal restaurant. We was welcomed to our table by the very friendly and polite staff. The restaurant is very small, lined with wooden wine racks but this creates a calm and classy atmosphere. The tables are separated perfectly so you are not on top of each other. The food is fabulous and worthy of the Micheline star it possesses. Each dish is professionally explained and delivered to perfection. My partner and I had the 8 course tasting menu which was beautifully sequenced. The mackerel and cod plates were two that really stood out to me, we opted for the additional caviar which was very reasonably priced. The Hide and Fox is exactly what it says on the tin, a characterful dining space with a commitment to quality. I would highly recommend.

Just wow!! Best restaurant in Kent 🙌 and better than most in London. Went for a meal last night for a birthday and the 8 course menu was incredible start to finish every course especially the venison, cod and mushrooms. Not only that but they bake multiple breads in house all phenomenal with different courses and the best dessert praline choux bun I've had in ages. Moreover, the service is so welcoming and knowledgeable and the little things like a birthday card and small menu to take home make all the difference! Best food, drinks and service we've had in a long time and worth visiting from afar we will be back ALOT!

Had very high hopes for our visit to Hide and Fox given the high plaudits received from Michelin and the 3 rosettes ratings Upon arrival it was obvious that a lot of effort was put into the decor and ambience and we were seated and asked for our drinks choices - after approx 30 minutes we had not received any food (snacks as detailed on the menu) and then shortly after a couple who arrived 10 mins after us were then served their ‘snacks’ so without kicking up a fuss we did throw a look to the waitress who I think realised we had not yet received anything. Around 45 minutes after arrival we received our snacks and then shortly after our first official course Service during the meal was very good and we were pleasantly surprised with each of the set menu courses, some better than others as you would expect and from personal choice/preference but none of the courses were in any way bad but perhaps equally some more underwhelming than excellent I do feel however that the offer of petit fours with our coffee to then be charged for them plus the fact that when ordering a double espresso and being told that would be two pods we perhaps were somewhat surprised to receive an £8 cost for this, given the acknowledgment this was solely pod coffee, was a tad over the top pricing - noting our meal for two was slightly under £400 including service charge Overall as per my title I would describe our evening as good but not great and when comparing to other Michelin restaurants we have visited it doesn’t stand out in any real way

We had the 8 course taster menu and I have to say, the food was up there with some of the best fine dining restaurants that I have eaten in from all over the world. There wasnt one dish that was poorly judged. We also had the wine pairing, and once again they were extremely well chosen and there were a few from different countries and regions that were not obvious and that was great. Overall, a superb meal and experience.

What can I say?! The food was exceptional, truly. Every course was packed full of flavour, the staff were really polite and friendly. It was expensive, my partner and I saved up for Christmas, but it was an experience we'll never forget. We went for the 8 course tasting menu, but we also got snacks and bread too, so it was more like 10 courses. We had cocktails/mocktails to accompany and they didn't disappoint either. I really would recommend going. The food for us was 10/10 and well worth the price.

Overall an amazing experience, delicious food with interesting ingredients and ideas. Wine selection is excellent and the staff is so friendly and attentive! You can do the “scarpetta” even if you are in a Michelin star restaurant and you won’t be judged ;)

We celebrated our Anniversary here today and I must say the whole experience was truly amazing from the most delicious food through to the impeccable service. We chose the taster menu of 5 and was not disappointed as each dish surprised our taste buds, accompanied by the perfect wine pairing. Intrigued by its allure, my dining companion and I decided to embark on a culinary adventure, opting for the highly anticipated 8-course tasting menu—an experience that gracefully extended to a delightful 10 courses, inclusive of a couple of captivating "snacks." Befitting its status as a one-Michelin-starred restaurant, the Hide and Fox showcased an exceptional mastery of culinary artistry. Each dish boasted an exquisite balance of flavors, textures, and impeccable presentation—a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship of the talented Chef. Although the evening was not without its imperfections, more on that later, the overall quality of the gastronomic journey was nothing short of exceptional. The service at the Hide and Fox was a delightful, marked by warmth, attentiveness, and an evident passion for their craft. The knowledgeable service team effortlessly guided us through the intricacies of each dish, and the wine menu too opting for a local treasure, the Gusbourne Blanc de Blanc, we were treated to a superb alternative to Champagne, further enhancing the memorable dining experience. Amidst the array of delectable courses, a few standout moments deserve special mention. The seemingly unassuming "Lamb" dish left an indelible impression with its succulent tenderness and nuanced flavors. Additionally, the Caramelia cremeux, a velvety and opulent chocolate dessert, redefined the boundaries of indulgence—an unrivaled delight for the senses. While the majority of our evening was an enchanting affair, a few minor grievances proved mildly vexing. The persistent presence of a buzzing fly at our table throughout the three-hour dining experience, intermittent callouts from the chef signaling the readiness of orders, and the one time occasion of crash pots emanating from the kitchen slightly marred an otherwise flawless ambiance. Although these elements do not warrant a deduction in rating, they could potentially pose challenges in the pursuit of an elusive second Michelin star. All things considered, the Hide and Fox truly excelled in delivering a superlative dining encounter. Our bill for two people, amounting to approximately £350, inclusive of the service charge, felt justified considering the impeccable service, stunning culinary offerings, and the delightful wine selection we indulged in. Kudos to the entire team at the Hide and Fox for their unwavering commitment to culinary excellence. Ventured down to Saltwood to try the local Michelin stared restaurant. We were the first table to arrive but was warmly met by our host. As it was a birthday meal for my wife she was greeted with a birthday card from the restaurant. Nice touch. Also met with a complementary drink each as they had to move our reservation from the previous day. On to the food. Not much more I can say apart from brilliant. We both had the 8 course taster menu. The only very slight thing I noticed was the honeycomb tasted bitter where it had burnt slightly. Apart from that the meal was impeccable. Very good service and atmosphere when other tables arrived. We will be back again for sure.

Spent last night having a really beautiful experience for my husbands birthday. The atmosphere is really lovely. The staff go out of their way to ensure you are happy. We had the most delicious eight course tasting menu. My husband had the wines and each was so well chosen for each course. Thank you for a lovely evening. We are lucky enough to eat at some great restaurants around the world, now we don't need to travel very far too enjoy some great dishes, lovely relaxed atmosphere and staff that were genuinely happy to see us in their restaurant. It's a set menu of either 5 or 8 dishes. All were of a ' proper ' size, beautifully presented and cooked. Good selection of local wines and beers. You need to book well in advance. The menu is the same for lunch and dinner. This is certainly in our top 5 of favourite places to dine. Highly recommend.

This place is incredible. The service and the wines were fantastic and the food was something else entirely. I've enjoyed a fair few taster menus and this was up there with the very best. Every dish was a sensational combination of flavours thoughtfully put together. Each lingered on the palette in the best way possible. The wine pairings were spot on. The decor is wonderfully understated and elegant and the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. There is nothing to dislike at all about this restaurant and so many things to enjoy, appreciate and admire. We will return and I can't wait.

Our first Michelin Star experience, and what a great experience it was. The food was delightful, and very adventurous with its differing combinations of flavours. The staff were really helpful, going in detail as to each plate (and glass of wine if you opt for the wine pairing). But you will need to bear in mind that if you go for the 8 course meal you will likely be in the restaurant for up to 5 hours! But if that’s not a problem for you then it is totally worth it. You get what you pay for as they say.

Last night we took a trip to Hide & Fox in Saltwood, Kent with our friends who have raved about this place for years. They weren’t wrong. Here Allister and Alice served us up an 8 course menu of modern British cuisine, with a focus on carefully sourced seasonal ingredients and fine wines & sweet saki and cider. Alice’s knowledge, commentary and why it was paired with each course was outstanding, and one of the best I have experienced at any Mitchelin restaurant. The courses just kept getting better and better as the evening went on, but for me the, Morel stuffed with Monteau sausage and white asparagus was the star of the show. Overall, a epic evening of great food, service delivered by a team passionate about what they do. Well done team Hide & Fox. We will be back

Was treated by my family for my birthday to the 5 course dinner. From the welcome as we entered to the farewell as we left the service and food was amazing. If you have the chance I would highly recommend you visit for a fantastic experience.

If only 6* was an option… Incredible meal! We had the 8 course with wine pairing which was well worth it. Food was perfectly balanced and complemented by the variety of wines from around the world - all explained by the maitre d’. Will definitely be back. Thank you for a fantastic evening.

Hide and Fox - Hythe’s secret Michelin restaurant Food rating 4.2/5 Presentation 4.8/5 Customer service 4.5/5 Ambiance 4.7/5 Price 4.2/5 Overall 4.4/5 3 People for lunch Five Course Taster Menu “Snacks” Two delicate palate pleasers, great way to start the courses, very well presented, small ‘one bite’ styled pieces. In house wheat bread Roasted mix seeds worked perfectly with the homemade bread, the bread was whole heartedly “wheaty” robust in bread flavour, for what you expect from a decent bakery, however the accompanied “butter / cream” lacked flavour, I believe this accompaniment is was over complicated and a homemade butter would have sufficed. Orkney Scallop: A sashimi / ceviche style dish which presented very pleasantly, the wasabi / cucumber and bergamot broth worked really well with the scallop, it was light and flavourful giving me a south Japanese region fish flavours, for an additional £15 was the local caviar, a very light caviar which worked well with the scallop, did not over power the flavours of the wasabi broth however, personally not worth the £15 and was not needed to be added. Tortellone: The tortellone was substitute with a pork filling due to the other fillings not being available , the pastry was perfect consistency, the filling was light and a good portion size within, the broth surrounding the dish was strong in depth with flavour , a touch too strong I would say as it overpowered the flavour of the pork, the consistency could have been a little thicker, overall a delightful dish which had strong notes. Sea bass: A classic south coast dish, with want anything wow worthy, a dish seen before all over the south coast, the grapes was unnecessary and did not work with the sea bass, the sea bass was seared to perfection, but there isn’t much to say about this dish, the bonobo butter was very light, a miso cured sea bass would have been more of interest, but nothing really special about a seared seabass, a dish which is overdone in all Restaurants in the south coast. Middle white pork: The pork had very south East Asian flavours, with the pork belly tasting very “char siu” Chinese flavours , was very strong in flavours but contrasted welll with the truffle sauce, with 3 different cuts of pork belly, all cooked well, the celeriac needed a touch more pepper as the notes just wasn’t there, the gravy was light and accompanied the pork well Caramelised cremeux The 80% chocolate mouse was very good, a very light and flavourful mouse which I throughly enjoyed out of all the dishes, and would have been the best dish, however the lapsang souchong’s sour and depth flavours overpower the mouse and did not work too well, I could see what was being done to the dish with the dark chocolate, sweet and sours, flavours being mixed to work with each other the Lapsang was just too intense in flavour , the aged balsamic did not work as well. The mouse was the only good part of this. Overall I would recommend visiting the Hide and Fox as it gives a good selection of the wondering produce of the south coast. Really well presented all the dishes, some of the dishes were just a touch too strong , where constant thirst of water was needed to cleanse the palate, it was a good mix of options for a taster menu and I would definitely would come back next time to see the next menu, the restaurant itself is a very well polished and design Resturant of simplicity and homely, with a good selection of wines and drinks at a decent price, a Michelin star restaurant which you wouldn’t expect to be in this area of Hythe. The service was A*, well presented staff, who was punctual and well informed, silver service and well trained staff, polite and kind individuals. What I would like to see is the use of Romney marsh lamb, yes a overused meat in the south coast, but if the Hide and Fox can redevelop the marsh lamb that would be amazing to see. A touch more seafood dishes as well.

4 words food and service outstanding

Not quite the experience we had hoped for for our son’s 18th birthday. We had to book two tables for our party of 10 but we could not choose who sat on which table as we were told that those who had chosen the 5 course menu had to sit on one table and those who had chosen the 8 course menu had to sit on the other. They were absolutely adamant that there was no flexibility. The atmosphere was a little cold, the food was generally good, but we found some of the courses over-seasoned for our tastes which at times overpowered the subtle flavours of the ingredients.

Went to celebrate husband’s birthday. It was an amazing experience with the most delicious food. We went for the 8-course meal and have no regrets. The food is beautiful to look at, tastes wonderful and it was fun to try some of the more outlandish ingredients as none of the flavours are overwhelming. Would love to return soon!

Dined at at Hide and Fox last night for the Simpson’s wine tasting event, our 4th visit since we moved into the area 20 months ago. It’s hard to be consistently faultless but Hide and Fox always manages to combine superb, interesting and original food with a welcoming and informal atmosphere. Wine pairings are often thought provoking but, invariably, perfect and last night’s opportunity to taste a range of Simpsons Kentish wines with the Hide and Fox’s wonderful food was another excellent experience. 5th visit planned!

We had the tasting lunch recently having eaten in a top rated london michelin restaurant the night before - greedy I know🤣. The Hide absolutely blew the london place away in every regard. Fabulous food, beautifully presented with excellent service and relatively speaking great value. Fantastic restaurent thoroughly deserving of their star.

We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and choose the Hide and Fox for our meal. We opted for the 8 course taster with Wine Flight. We were greeted by one of the two ladies who looked after the front of house throughout the whole evening and taken to our table which had a lovely card waiting for us which we thought was a wonderful gesture. We were offered our first drink which was an amazing sparkling wine with the most delicate bubbles I’ve ever had. It was gorgeous. Before each meal we were given the chosen wine/port that would compliment each meal and were given an in depth detailed description of it and why it compliments each meal. The lady (from Italy) was very knowledgeable and always very polite and clear with her descriptions. The meals followed and we were also given an in depth description about the ingredients and source of the ingredients this time by the other lady. We never felt rushed and can’t thank both ladies enough for making our evening very special. When it comes to the food, I can honestly say that we have never eaten anything as wonderful as we did here. The presentation was exquisite and everything tasted amazing. Our whole experience was one we will always remember and we will definitely be back again. Can’t recommend the Hide and Fox enough 😊

Absolutely phenomenal. The food, the drinks, the service, the atmosphere all of it was superb. We visited to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday and it was perfect! So nice to have a restaurant like this fairly local (within 30 mins) and not have to trek all the way to London. The Kent food scene is definitely on the up thanks to places like Hide & Fox. Would definitely come back.

Food and service both excellent. Best restaurant in the area by far. The food rivalled some of the best London restaurants.

We went there for our anniversary. A beautiful setting, where you feel special. The restaurant gave us a card, which was a lovely touch. The food was great, but I have not given 5 stars, as a couple of the dishes in the 5 course menu where not to my specific taste, such as smoked salmon. The duck was awesome, and overall it was a lovely evening. We sampled a local Simpson wine, which is great.
