Did not stay in this hotel, thank goodness. Stayed in Air B & B close by. Had phoned hotel the day before to book a meal . Was told by female who answered phone that I did not have to book. Just to call in between 5pm and 7.30 pm. After a long drive from Ullapool popped round to hotel at 3pm. It which was closed even though the notice on door said I opening times were from 2pm. Returned at 5.30pm to be told they would not serve us a meal as they had a coach party in for dinner. When I explained that I had phoned the previous day s the barmaid shrugged her shoulders and said sorry. We had not eaten since breakfast so we’re extremely hungry. The lounge was also full of whining dogs. Unfortunately this is the only eating place in Kinlochbervie apart from a cafe which was shut by this time. We had to travel around 4 miles to get fish and chips which, by the way were excellent . Definitely not a place to visit. Very unhelpful

Hat schon bessere Zeiten gesehen, dieses Hotel. Die Bar ist aber immer noch gut bestückt, das Pub am Abend belebt und das Essen deftig.

Odd place, bit run down. There were people who had obviously just eaten or in process of eating. Yet were told there was “nothing left” hotel on its last legs when it has no food left. Or it’s lazy staff who want to finish early on a Friday.

The restaurant had been recommended by our local B&B Host Lady. We walked up the hill to receive an cold welcome. We asked for dinner and the woman at the desk just said: "no table available, we are fully booked". Which cannot be... it was dinner time, no person in restaurant, not all tables prepared at all, other room just prepared for breakfast. On request for a later timeslot: "we are full" Forget it - i think she just was not interrested at all...

Went here to visit the bar for a drink. Very rude waitress snapped at us as we apparently walked the wrong way into the bar when this was our first visit, there were no signs and no one at reception. Her customer service throughout the night was poor and definitely needs improving to stop putting people off coming back.

Our last visit was for a bowl of soup at lunch time in May, there was no one else there but the soup was homemade and value for money. There isn't a lot of choice in the area so competition isn't great. A very functional place that serves the purpose when you need it.

Staying at a cottage a two minute walk away so we walked down to book an evening meal for 4 adults and 5 children. Sour faced woman behind the desk said no chance. I'd suggest a little training in welcoming people to a place where the majority of your business will come from the tourist industry. Perhaps offering an alternative evening or even suggesting somewhere else. I'm all for supporting local business as I do in my own pretty remote hometown but the "Deliverance" welcome is a bit off putting. Didn't stay long enough to notice any banjo's propped in the corner! Looking at the dilapidated state of the premises it seems to me you need every penny you can get. As qualified roofer I could have sorted the missing northwest corner of the roof for the price of a decent meal.

Great value for money, lovely scenery, friendly service and a really good meal ..... sounds good ? Even better, free WiFi also :) I visit Durness every year to chase the aurora (Northern Lights) but seriously considering staying at the hotel instead about 30 mins south of Durness due to no lunchtime food being available in Durness out of season. And, after visiting this hotel now on 3 occasions, it is just as friendly and the food remains as good + if the locals use it then it has to be a good find :)

If you look for cozy, starred restaurants, this isn't the right place for you. And to be honest, maybe Kinlochbervie is not the town you should stay in, unless you'd like to cook your own meal. I think, most of bad reviews are from people who chose the wrong dishes: i've had a soup, haggis and apple pie, plus a couple of local cask beers: everything was definitely good! After dinner we had all the time to chat together and play Jenga, without any pressing waiter walking around. Ok, this mean that you have to hunt for some waiter to have one more drink but... you are on holiday, aren't you? All in all is a relaxed place with good food to choose (i didn't tried the bad food, sorry) with reasonable prices.

There were 5 of us and we had a mixed experience. The battered fish & chips were good, the venison sausages "quite tasty", the fresh haddock in parsley sauce was dry and uninteresting - the "parsley sauce" was dried parsley shaken over a nice piece of haddock and cooked for too long and the pan fried chicken so overcooked it was barely edible. The fifth guest who had haggis declined to comment. The two desserts had come from the freezer and been popped in the microwave - not a good look for pastry. Overall it was like going back in time to the days when "convenience foods" were all the rage. Not a meal to rave about but certainly one to remember. The view is lovely.

Three of us dropped in for supper one fine evening, arriving at 8pm. The bar staff were very helpful, but it appeared that as the chef stopped cooking at 8pm, we were restricted in what we could eat. However, we did enquire about the specials, none of which were available. We did enquire about a steak, but it sounded as if the cook maybe reluctant to prepare it, so we opted for something that was available. Being next to one of Scotland's main fishing harbours, there was a distinct lack of fresh fish on offer. Once our order was made, I noticed a man from the bar, who was watching football over a pint, slip off into the kitchen. I can only assume that he was the chef! When the food arrived it was perfectly edible, but not memorable.

Thankfully my friend and I were staying at a B&B in Kinlochbervie and not this hotel. Being the only place serving evening meals in the village, we were forced to eat here both nights. We booked for the first night as we were informed they had a big party in and therefore we were the first diners in the restaurant. We did not receive a warm welcome, the staff seemed to wonder why we were there. The menu looked quite good with a few choices for vegetarians. We were not told that anything on the menu was unavailable but when we tried to order we found that hardly anything was actually on that night! I will eat fish now and again so I offered to have the haddock and chips.....they didn't even have that, which was odd since outside the window was a harbour with fishing boats and fish processing plants etc! On the second night I just had chips salad and onion rings, thankfully they only charged me £4.50 for that. Basically it is like the management of this place know they have the monopoly and don't actually bother trying to provide a good service or place to eat. They could do with a bit of healthy competition. I'd go self catering next time because I do want to go back to the area but I don't want to have to eat there again!!

Turned up for morning coffee and was treated to a sour welcome and snide comments - so we left. It shocks me that a place could treat potential customers in such an offhand manner. Come on - you are in the tourist business so try and appreciate they are the reason you exist. Will go to other places in future that treat you with respect and welcome the custom

Have eaten here many times on numerous stays to the area. The food has improved tremendously in recent years and I have to say is always cooked to perfection. Staff are very helpful and although some of them are young and inexperienced it in no way affected our evening. Everyone has to start somewhere. Looking forward to going back next summer.

Went at lunchtime, just passing by and spotted this place. Welcome was good, but exceptionally long wait for 2 prawn sandwiches and 2 kids meals. Only 2-3 other tables in use and all waiting a while. Food ok, but not worthy of the surroundings or price. Overall thw place seemed stuck in a timewarp. A shame, it could be so much more.

Staying in a nearby holiday cottage, we thought we would treat ourselves to dinner out one evening. Apart from the view at this establishment which was wonderful, everything else was grim. The menu was limited and old fashioned with no evidence of the daily specials board we had been promised. There was no fresh fish on the menu which was disappointing as the hotel sits above one of the largest fishing ports in Scotland. The prawns could have come out of a freezer anywhere in the UK and the lamb appeared to have been cooked some time previously and then reheated. Needless to say, we didn't stay for dessert or coffee. If you are considering dining here, we suggest you take a sandwich and sit on the bench by the jetty to enjoy the view!

Roads End Cafe is a lifesaver at this time of the year, we were on the NC500 and fancied a bite to eat when we got to John o Groats. It is such a basic cafe but still serves hot toasties/sandwiches, soup and small cakes/scones. The lady that served us was lovely, so welcoming and willing to go the extra mile, she even recommended the haggis and cheese toastie which I couldn't turn down. Since it was so quiet, it was takeaway only but she let us sit in due to the gale force winds outside. I have to say the toasties are the best I have had in a while and not even that expensive despite the location, absolutely fantastic. It is a little gem if you're looking for something eat when you reach the most northernly point in Scotland!

Booked a meal deal a month ago. Day before arrival got e mail asking if we wanted to upgrade to a meal deal. Arrived to a big electronic display showing restaurant and meal deal. Told at reception no evening meals available we could have a refund. Very poor. Nearest alternative Morrisons cafe (which had practically nothing on the menue or McDonalds. Ruined our stay .
