Went to the cottons for breakfast with my family and the service was quality 👌 garth who I think was the manager was very attentive and george went above and beyond to make sure that we had everything. The food was really good and if you have a sweet tooth I would recommend the waffles and bacon 😋. Already planing our next visit.

Very disapointed. We booked afternoon tea after the (very disapointing) wedding fair. The afternoon tea really didnt match quality of the high price, due to the lack of filling in sandwiches and thick layers of butter. The afternoon tea has been much better and of higher quality at other places in Knutsford. The staff could do with some training. Upon arrival, the welcome was very “lazy” and impersonal. The waitress tried explain what was on the afternoon tea but couldnt explain anything but the egg sandwich. We laughed it off but it was quite uncomfortable for both us and the waitress. Perhaps some adequate menu training would be of use. We also asked for some prosecco and the waitress came back to tell us the price at £6.50 a glass. We asked for it as part of the afternoon tea package and she was stood looking very umcomfortable and confused while trying to sort it on her tablet. She walked away to sort the situation and arrived back 15 minutes later with the prosecco. This is no blame on her as she clearly had no training on the menu or tablet. We then asked the supervisor for two coffees while there were no waitress/waiters to be seen and she said she couldnt take orders and would send someone over. The waitress arrived ten minutes later and again, looked confused while adding these to the tablet and then muttered she didnt know how to make a coffee as she walked off. The coffee was just weak brown water. Saying that, the waitress was very polite and did her best to help us. But a handful of them did appear to be confused with no knowlege throughout our time there. It was quite a shame as we arrived with such high expectations and left feeling disapointed - mainly due to the afternoon tea.

Very friendly and helpful staff served our dinner. All expected precautions were taken with good distancing between tables. Booking is recommended. A very comprehensive menu with something for everyone. As a vegetarian, I was impressed. There is also a vegan menu. My other half opted for the linguini stater which was excellent followed by a very good Sirloin steak. I went for a starter of Risotto followed by Hallumi and twice cooked chips with accompaniments. We chose meringue for me and cheese for him for dessert. A good Italian wine and sparkling water completed our dinner. We also started with bread to share. At a little over £100 we were happy with the value for money.

I had a 2 night stay at Cottons and booked in for food in the restaurant for both nights. I made my way to the bar for a few drinks before sitting down on my first night. The bar staff were lovely, attentive and ready to refill my glass when it was empty. It was no trouble to transfer my tab over to the restaurant when I was ready to eat, and I thoroughly enjoyed the pigeon for starters and the home-made burger main I ordered. My first mornings breakfast was acceptable, a little disappointing to find the 'hot' food not so hot, but apart from that it was fine. Unfortunately my experience on my second night was not as pleasant as the first night. My starter was fine, however my Sunday roast main course was barely warm, a little like the breakfast from the morning. I informed the waitress, who offered a replacement meal, however I had been so eager to eat it before it went truly cold, I was half way through my plate and certainly couldn't have managed another, so I declined her kind offer. She did however, remove the price of my wine from the meal by way of compensation. Pip, the waitress, deserves a mention for her outstanding attitude and great attention to my needs on both nights of my stay.

Easy to drop in and meet friends, very relaxed and a pleasant location with wiling staff. We only wanted to fill a gap and relax so we were shown the cold buffet - help yourself and either small or large. Four of us visited. The buffet was excellent and the only downside was that other people visiting did not seem to notice it! Great value. Cottons could promote their services more and we had no problem with the range of drinks on offer, all quickly and efficiently served. Well done!

A mixed bag. The Cheshire buffet and roast beef were excellent BUT..... It a shame that the organisation is so poor as it has great potential. The Two course Sunday lunch is good value. We were welcomed and sat down at our table but were then left and it was some time before we were offered drinks although we had the menu. All four of us had the same - the Cheshire buffet to start followed by roast beef. After ordering drinks we were on the point of going to look for them when they eventually arrived. Also when consumed no one noticed and we struggled to attract attention without going looking. The buffet has a great choice to starters and is one of the high points for me. The roast beef came out on warm (not hot) plates with roasties and a mediocre Yorkshire pud. We had two generous jugs of gravy and the generous portion of roast beef was superb (might be a little rare for some). Some time later the vegetables turned up ( just before we sent out a search party). We had to do that to order the horseradish sauce and when it didn’t turn up ask again. We were just asking for a third time when a young lad turned up with four individual helpings. It was too late for me as my beef was gone. Seats are comfy and the little booths are cosy. One other issue is the steady flow of guests on the way to check out who seem to have to go through the middle of the dining area. I am hoping someone from the hotel reads this as a bit of staff tracing could fix a lot of these problems and move my rating up by one or maybe even two stars.

Group evening meal here, pre ordered choices. All food and service were good, in fact beetroot and goats cheese starter was delightfully fresh and tasty. Salmon with samphire was excellent, and all arrived with ample fresh veg and potatoes in separate terrines. Pleasant wine by the glass. Cheese board left a little to be desired, two rather large lumps of indifferent cheese (Cheshire and Red Leicester it seemed) with two small biscuits. On request more arrived, but still left cheese offered as overfacing and bland. Some French influence required here I think. Overall good.

Having heard some very good reviews about the food at Cotton's I was really looking forward to Sunday lunch here with family. I can't help but feel disappointed at what was unfortunately no better than standard pub fayre. Given the price of the three course lunch and the limited menu choices I expected what was available to be excellent, instead it was no better than average. A couple of our party selected the chef's table for their starters and this disappointingly hadn't been re-stocked. On a plus side the service was friendly and efficient and the extra gravy we requested was soon provided, although I hope a mix up over the Irish whiskey ordered was a genuine mistake and the cheaper whisky brought to the table was brought in error - the drink was changed after we complained. Such a lovely place but I'm afraid there are far better places for Sunday lunch.

Having used Cottons restaurant & bar a number of times previously (birthday meal and meals whilst simply passing plus business meetings) and recommended them we decided to have a family meal whilst in transit. Knowing this was in between Christmas & New Year we booked a table online in the restaurant for the 5 of us 4 days prior to our booking on 2nd Jan.On the day as we were running late due to M6 traffic, we rang and advised and were told no problem the person taking call would let the restaurant know. Our daughter and family arrived before us to be told restaurant not open and would have to eat in the bar (much confusion amongst staff as to this fact so assume it was not planned). Anyway as it was much too late to find somewhere else when we arrived we agreed to eat in the bar - with the very limited bar menu as our only choice. So ordered 5 very ordinary standard type bar meals plus drinks and waited - drinks arrived very quickly - 45 minutes later still no food we were assured that "ready in 2-3 minutes" so 15 minute later bar menu food finally arrived.Nothing to get excited about from a food experience point of view - basic in the extreme. A couple of burgers, fish & chips and a pasta dish - all not quite as per menu but OK, the 5th dish was supposed to be a smoked chicken and green baby leaf salad with dressing - a bit steep at £13.50 and reality was totally at odds with menu description. Was basically half a lettuce and 5 slices of chicken with some dressing on - see attached photo. The chicken salad was rejected - we were asked what else could they add to the salad...... but we declined.Duty manager was apologetic and did adjust the final bill but the whole thing has left us deciding never to call again and never to recommend to any one we know.Questions - why take bookings online for the restaurant and not honour or at least advise prior to actual date/time?How can it take almost an hour to provide 5 basic bar meals when there were almost no other customers in the bar area?£13.50 for half a lettuce and 5 slices of chicken is not good value even if delivered quickly - even worse after a 60 minute wait.Guy behind bar did his best but was not helped by the rest of the backroom staff.

We had not visited "The Cottons" for many years and we were not disappointed. On arrival we were shown to a cosy booth and our drinks orders were quickly taken and delivered while we studied the menu. A terrific singer, Neil who performs periodically on Sundays entertained us with some excellent ballads - Matt Monroe being a speciality - worth a re-visit just to listen to his superb rendition of some old favourites. Our choice of starter - Cheshire Specialities - featured local cuisine and this was a self-service buffet. The pate, fish and cooked meats were very tasty along with a selection of pulses and salad vegetables. Our mains of roast beef and pork was accompanied by steamed vegetables, roast potatoes creamed cauliflower and individual gravy dishes. All was cooked to perfection especially the pot roasted beef which melted in the mouth. Too full for desert but enjoyed the coffees.Altogether a very relaxing lunch where service was good and attentive. Hopefully a repeat visit will be on the cards especially when Neil is singing.

We could not get into our first choice restaurant and decided to try The Cottons - somewhere we had not visited in years. Nobody in our party of 4 persons had looked at web sites for reviews so had no idea what to expect. First - a modern dining room with circular cosy booths plus conventional tables made a good first impression. The staff were very friendly and efficient - drinks orders taken as we studied the menu. Highly recommended was our chosen starter of Cheshire favourites - a self serve platter of various fish, meats, pasta and salad. The mains included various roasts and poultry dishes served with steamed vegetables, creamed cauliflower and plenty of roast potatoes. If there was room for more there was a selection of sweets. The roast beef was the tenderest I have ever tasted - pot roasted to produce this very satisfying meat. The service was excellent and we were happy to leave a cash tip because on enquiry we discovered that if paying by card, gratuities added to the bill are allegedly kept by the hotel and not given to the staff. Management - please correct me if this is incorrect. Thank you.

My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary, so we were prepared to spend a little extra for a memorable meal. The restaurant area of the hotel was lovely, and was busy when we sat down, creating a nice buzzing atmosphere without being too noisy. We had bits from the Taste of Cheshire table to start, which offered a varied selection of cold meats, fish, salad and canapés - everything I had was gorgeous. We ordered the chateaubriand as our main, and this was cooked to perfection and was a generous portion for two people. The waiters were friendly and professional, and overall had a great time with amazing food. Would definitely recommend and dine here again if given the opportunity!

Sunday lunch with friends. We all had the taste of cheshire starter which is a magnificent buffet. If you have a little of everything don't take too much or have seconds! All four of us had the roast beef Sunday lunch. I can honestly say the best I have ever had. Thick succulent slices (pink for me and just how I ordered). Nice selection of vegetables with generous portions. If had to be critical I would say the service was slow and it was a little chilly but these were minor things and did not spoil our enjoyment as we were having a nice time. £90 + tip for two courses and coffee with non alcoholic drinks was a bargain for the quality of the meal. Afternoon tea should be special but it was rubbish. Warm microwaved scones, sweets standard packs from brakes or 3663 costing an average of £4 a head to produce then charged out at 1000% markup?? Make it special and make it yourself or charge local cafe prices please.Dinner starter was ok but £17 for 3 lamb chops with no seasoning ( billed as herb marinated???). Myself and a few colleagues ate in the bar as we couldn't be bothered for anything more formal - we arrived at 9pm after a long journey. You get the same food options but a more informal atmosphere. The food was good - we just had croque-monsieur ( minus the ham for the 2 x veggies) and it was delicious. Service was very good but the only odd thing is the waiter had to go back to the main dining room for all the extras such as knives and forks, sauces etc. All in all would certainly eat here again.

My husband had previously visited your Hotel on several occasions & said the Cheshire Table was a great selection of fine foods. We decided to call on Saturday on our way to a family party to book a table for 7.30 ie on our way home to Lichfield. As we arrived at 7pm we were told no table had been booked ! We asked if we could go in anyway ,early & the girl proceeded to write us in for 7.30 ! We did go in to eat at 7 and the food was very fresh & great selection but the service was absolutely dreadful ! We asked for table water & the young man who brought it never spoke a word as we thanked him . He was utterly silent ! We ordered our Cheshire Table which was lovely. We then asked a young waitress for a dessert menu , which never came ! We finally asked a waiter for it but realised it was now far too late to order as we had a long journey home. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to visit your Hotel again due to such service & i also would like to have seen some replies & comments to reviews on Trip advisor when people take the time to write them ( good or not so good ! ). I visited Cottons Hotel last week, with my daughter, for the afternoon tea. What can I say, other than it was perfect, in every way!It was a beautiful, sunny day so we sat outside in the new al fresco area. With the sun beating down and the little fountain playing in the background, it was the ideal setting to enjoy such a treat. The table was laid with crisp, white linen and the tea itself was served by friendly, polite staff. When the food arrived, we couldn't believe our eyes! The mini sandwiches, scones, cheesecakes and a good variety of scrummy looking cakes were all professionally presented on a tasteful stand and we just didn't know where to start! Thank goodness we hadn't even had breakfast that morning! Everything was totally delicious but it did, unfortunately defeat us in the end. However, we did manage to take a few of the goodies home, wrapped in paper napkins. We loved everything so much and it felt like the ultimate treat and indulgence, so much so that I bought a gift voucher whilst there, for my friend whose birthday is later this month. I know she will be thrilled to receive such a gift.My daughter and I had a wonderful afternoon, one which we shall repeat in the not too distant future. I would recommend this culinary experience to anyone, without hesitation and can't wait to return.

I did actually have my school prom here a few years ago, and I remember having a fantastic time. However until recently I had forgotten about Cottons, until seeing their instagram post about an afternoon tea. I arrived after an afternoon in Tatton, and decided to pop in to ask about the afternoon tea. The waiter said that it wasn't available, I did arrive around 3:30 so perhaps timing had something to do with it, which was a shame as I really wanted an afternoon tea! Anyway I decided on the hot sandwiches section, and went with the BLT, all hot sandwiches come with chips. I also had the sticky toffee pudding to finish. I had a thoroughly enjoyable experience, as I sat outside on the terrace, which is furnished impeccably. The weather was just incredible, for a moment you could actually picture yourself on holiday... The inside decor is also beautiful, and I would definitely come back again to dine inside. I can't remember the name of my waitress but all staff were lovely. I can imagine the spa is always very nice as the toilets had Espa products in there.

Attended a wedding at the Cottons. The wedding breakfast was very poor and appeared to be reheated and dry. The first course was a cheese tart that was more like a thin quiche with no flavour and tasteless mushrooms. The second course, a traditional Christmas dinner, was comprised of very bitter sprouts, dried out slices of meat, dried out roast potatoes, a single over cooked pig in blanket and a bland lump of stuffing. I've had better quality roast dinners for a fiver at a pub carvery. Also small portions. Desert was nothing special. As this was served at about 2.30pm our guess was the main kitchen staff had gone already with the lunch time trade having finished and our food was left under heaters or similar. If planning to how is venue for a wedding I would discuss the menu and how the food is kept in detail with your coordinator.

Eleven of us dined here between Christmas and New Year. Service can be a little suspect at this time, but not here. Four or five waiters or waitresses looked after us throughout the meal. There were also two weddings in the place at the same time. The starter was a crab pate , main course I had salmon with samfire, and plenty of well cooked and presented vegetables, and a choice of several ice creams for sweet. Plenty of other choices as well. Both the house red and white were good. This is a very attractive place set just outside Knutsford heading to the M6. As well as the bar and restaurant there is a leisure club, apparently with supervised classes, a hotel, and, as mentioned, a wedding venue. I can only comment on food, drink and service, all of which were very good. I think the waiting on staff have been trained by John Lewis.

Well what can I say....7 of us came to stay here for a night, the welcome at reception was warm and welcoming and I would have hoped set the tone for the stay....I could not have been more wrong...The bar staff were polite and provided punctual table service even at busy periods but the staff in the restaurant let this place down...40 minutes to take our orders, starters took some 40 minutes and even then a mistake was made...Considering that there were 7 members off staff for no more than 40 people this is not good enough, no check backs were carried out for starters or mains. The 'braised' beef was dryer than an old boot that had been vacuum packed in Davey jone's locker, they missed out on several extra drinks that they could have sold and we generally felt ignored...Couldn't be bothered with the hassle of trying to order desserts as we feared we would be here all night. We came here for our anniversary meal as we were staying in the hotel overnight and didn't want to stray too far. They were great at booking us in and I could do it over email which makes it easier when you are at work. When we arrived for our 8pm reservation, the restaurant was fairly quiet and pre-booking seemed a little foolish! We were put into a corner table which was not in the middle of the restaurant. This was nice at first but then we started to feel that we had been forgotten, especially when our starters took 45 minutes to arrive! The food was great quality and appeared to be freshly prepared and cooked and if the restaurant had been busy or we'd been alerted to the fact that we would have to wait a long time, we wouldn't have minded but it felt a little like we had been forgotten in the hidden corner. Main course was really good and quicker to arrive. We decided against pudding and instead took our remaining drinks to our room to finish. Overall, an average experience, marred slightly by the fact we were so hungry by the time our starters arrived that I don't think we tasted them on the way down...

Visited here for evening dinner. My husband had booked it over the internet and had e mail confirmation. On arrival at the restaurant we were told we were not booked in. Good job it was quiet, so there was a spare table. Don't know what would have happened if it had been full. On sitting at the table my husband found that his chair was very wobbly and this had to be changed. Menu was fine with enough choice. When the waiter brought the wine my husband had ordered he went to pour some for him to try (as usual). In doing so, the waiter poured some of it onto the white tablecloth. He did not bat an eyelid but we were not impressed. After all, this restaurant is in a 4* hotel and you don't expect that sort of service. We had to ask if we could have some bread, instead of this being delivered as a matter of course. We also had to ask for a jug of water. The food we had was nice but unfortunately because of the failings in the service, you were always wondering what would go wrong next. This does not make for a relaxing evening. They cannot deal with credit card payments in the restaurant and you have to go to reception.Could do better.

Myself and my partner came to Magnolia to sample food for our wedding on 7th May. Our only issue with the food was that we found it difficult to make a choice for our big day as everything they put in front of us was delicious! The restaurant manager Ian and his staff could not have been more helpful and service was excellent.

I really like this place but today was a real letdown, it was to busy not enough room for everyone it was to hot, I'm sure there is more tables in there since the last time I went in, it should be quality or quantity the parking was terrible and the food was a real let down won't be going again

We visited the Wizard Tea Rooms while attending a corporate volunteering day at Alderley Edge National Trust Park, and what a treat the Tea Rooms were! From start to finish, my colleague and I had easy communication with the lovely ladies who run the tea rooms - Harriet and Rachel. They provided us with the menu and prices in advance of the day, and we decided to opt for teas and coffees in the morning, soup and sandwiches for lunch, and another round of teas of coffees after lunch for our group of 26. One week on and I'm still talking about the delicious mushroom and garlic soup, cheese and beetroot sandwiches, BLTs and egg mayo sandwiches! We felt everything was reasonably priced, and the ladies took great care of us on the day -nothing was too much trouble. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Wizard Tea Rooms to friends and family, or corporate companies. In fact, I will be back to visit with my kids and dog for an ice cream (yes they do doggy ice cream too!) Also - the venue itself is gorgeous - seating indoors (all 26 fit inside), but plenty outside too. Really charming old-world feel inside the tea room which we all loved. Many thanks to the wonderful staff for looking after us so well - Alison and James.
