The Regal in Cambridge

Larger than your usual Wetherspoons as I believe it used to be a cinema. Quick lunch from the Curry Club. Service fast and courteous, food was good. The beef madras wasn't as hot as expected, just a tingle. But good none the less.

Oh my god I ordered food on my phone which meant I could stay sat down. Will do again! Fast service on drinks and food. Good price! Had dessert which was amazing.

Service was quick and efficient. Food arrived quickly. Overall seamless service and experience. Standard layout and seatings across the chain. Well located on the high street and easily accessible. Would recommend for a casual meal and drinks.

I only give atmosphere a 3 because it's a large spoons & there are lots of people! But apart from that, clean, tidy, food is good, staff are nice, service is quick & toilets are looked after.

Issue with app caused me to get charged twice. Staff were lovely but when the food came it was terrible.

Loved it, not sure what this pub used to be (bingo Hall, cinema or theatre) but as always very good. 👍 to Wetherspoons

Eat in here all weekend couldn't fault the place super busy on Friday and Saturday nite as to be expected but got served quickly can't fault the place. Cheapest pints in Cambridge!

This is the most awful place in UK the menu is not to cast a customised friendly it's very difficult to choose there is no pictures on the menu the stuff is not friendly so please skip it avoids coming here.

Just saw someone arguing with bouncers. Once the bouncers left, the guy emptied a whole pint bottle into the carpet. The issue was reported to bouncers and managers. Has been 20 minutes and no one came to clean it. Surely will even stink more tomorrow. Tells me why this place always has a weird smell. I can tell my friends why now

Standard if considerably bigger Spoons. Nice enough service to be fair and about the only Licensed place open early morning, otherwise Cambridge has got plenty of real pubs nearby Update today. Mind blowing how lovely the table service team were?!

We had a company outing to Cambridge this month and made a reservation with this pub for lunch. We were really impressed by how well our reservation was handled, since we were approx. 90 people! The staff were very kind and organised and the food was brought out very quick. I definitely recommend this pub, especially for large group bookings.

Good value for money, would say it needs up dating decorative and may less tables just not a pleasurable sit to have a proper conversation as too many people of which is a good thing too.

You just can't go wrong with Wetherspoons and we all know what to expect with the food and drink plus the service was great.

Great order! Great service! I paid for the order and waited 20 minutes, it turns out they simply forgot about me. There weren't many people there; everyone around quickly got breakfast. I'm the only one who's lucky. By the way, the sausages taste disgusting

I enjoyed my visit yesterday, had lemon herb chicken with mash, gravy and coleslaw salad and mayo and had a pint of San Miguel beer as part of the meal offer. Paid £14 as I had extra gravy.

Premium 'Spoons, nearly perfect. Still. Prices have been creeping up, like everywhere else. Fish and chips excellent last visit.

We were in the Art cinema. Clean toilets! Very comfortable seats and great view.

Regal was much more fun when there was a dancing floor. Apart of that drinks are in good price, food is good. But where's the dance floor.

the atmosphere was lovely inside the building and the waiters were absolutely lovely and brought all our food out very quickly :) the food itself was tasty for the most part, i got a ham and cheese panini which was really good except on the bottom of the panini there was some paper/cardboard stuck to the bread? i pulled it off and the meal was fine to eat other wise. my partner and his friend both ordered medium done steaks, his friend’s was medium but my partners was more medium-rare, the whole inside was red and there was a bit of blood coming out. he still ate it as it tasted good just wasn’t quite to his taste - maybe the chef just got mixed up for his :) on the whole it was a nice meal, any issue we had didn’t ruin the food too much.

Kyle who served us is such an amazing and lovely gent, it’s so nice to see, the difference in experience someone can make is big and Kyle did that with ease

The staff members were racist. I asked for some cards and they misunderstood my accent and assumed i said something abusive and forced me and my whole group to leave without any dialogue or attempt at resolution. Very disappointing treatment

The place looks really old and the food wasn't properly cooked. Went there 2 times and both of them had food poison. Last time I had only an apple juice and i felt stomach ache. First time I spent 4 days at home feeling awful. I don't recommend and I'm not coming back.

We went when the rugby was on so it was very busy, we didn't have to wait long for our food which was hot and delicious . The atmosphere is friendly, the beer was good so I've nothing bad to say about my experience

Had breakfast today whilst waiting for MOT. Had breakfast, lovely. Nothing to complain about and with that you get free refills too...non of this nonsense £4 a cup. Perfect 👍

A nice 3-level pub, after an old cinema. The decor is not very original and needs to be repainted and painted in different colors. A bit too dark, you can't see the food. 😎 Great service, waiters!... quickly served food and a bottle of wine🤩 Unfortunately, very small portions of food !!! ... does the kitchen save??? The fish and chips we ordered were the size of an aquarium fish or sardine and a lot of frying.!! (the photo shows a fish with its tail cut off, nothing eaten) The kitchen needs to be improved or replaced!

We ordered fish and chips and gammon steak and portions was very small, cot's size was as makrel and 10 Oz steak as 5 oz.

Le pub est immense, très bien situé dans la grande rue qui descend de la gare vers le centre de Cambridge et très bien décoré. C est un pub de la chaine Wheterspoon dont c’est le meilleur rapport qualité prix que nous avons trouvé à Londres et dans sa banlieue. Par contre au vu des prix attractifs et du monde (nous y étions un samedi), les tables ne sont pas débarrassées, la propreté du lieu n’est pas toujours assurée et les places libres sont rares. Note : je conseille l appli pour commander.

Very Dirty, especially the toilets. The floor is very sticky. I waited half an hour for my beer.

I came here today and ordered pizza. Was very disappointed. It had barely any tomato sauce and was very underdone. As a result, it was very rubbery. I will not be coming here for food again. Wasn't worth what I paid for it.

*EDITED 01/2024. Food standards have dropped here while prices have risen. Wetherspoons is NOT a cheap go-to any more so I would recommend supporting local businesses. Old review kept to show what I have previously thought of venue. Good location, very busy at weekends and lunchtimes. Food is standard wetherspoons quality.

Lovely pub, great food and service. Shame the young manager behind the bar was rude to her staff in front of customers. Probably trying to make herself look good, but had the opposite effect. I felt sorry for the staff she was verbally abusing.

Cheese and tomato panini came as cheese and ham...when correct order came ..rubbish.. flat tastless cardboard..no filling waste if money. Toilets as always very clean

The place is quite big and spacious. We visited the pub during the Christmas break. It was very crowded. The personal were friendly but very busy. The food was good and on the menu you could find different dishes suitable for adults and kids. They also had some options for vegetarians. The pub is wheelchair accessible. For those who want to visit Cambridge using their car, the Lion Yard parking is close by.

Lovely meal and staff.. well some anyways. ordered cocktails and rightly so after purchase via the app my ID was checked and i didn’t have it so i couldn’t enjoy them, that didn’t bother me.. but what did is we had a table of younger people sat next to us who also ordered alcoholic drinks via the app, and when the waiter approached he didn’t check none of the 3 peoples ID but mine was checked? Waiter who brought drinks over to the table next to us was rude and slammed the drinks on the table and just walked off. working in the hospitality industry i understand shifts can be stressful and overwhelming but it was uncalled for. As i said above, checking my ID was no issue - my own fault for forgetting it but when a table is sat next to you who clearly looks younger it’s a joke! On the other hand, my best friend left her brand new shoes behind and they did take care of them until we was able to return.

Went in there for a meal with my daughter. I've been there quite a lot in the last couple of months. Food was not up to the usual standards, but there you go. The atmosphere was good and enjoyed relaxation after a long walk around Cambridge.

Cheap prices (2.59 a pint for IPA), brilliant burger, great atmosphere, varied clientele of all ages and walks of life ... Best of all are the staff. I saw one of their people assisting a vulnerable and upset customer with grace and tenderness not often seen anywhere these days, and never in busy pubs in my experience. The award-winning toilets are spotless and elegant. Coffee for 1.50 with endless free refills. Simply the best.

I’ve never been such crowded place in Cambridge. A bunch of people everywhere although the place is so big. Always a long queue to buy some drink and not so easy to find a place to sit. Still it is recommended to have fun by drinking cheaper than most places in Cambridge and live the atmosphere with your friends.

Had burger chips and onions, unfortunately only given aroind 10x chips, burger and onion rings were nice.

Cambridge Spoon's is far less grimy than than you'd think. Great atmosphere, and the food, while not exactly gourmet, is well worth the price. Christmas 2023 update: still as awesome as I remember Spoon's being.

Use to drink here on a friday/Saturday night many years ago. This year I've been visited on several occasions, and (now) finally left a review. The atmosphere is abit drab. In my opinion it's abit dark and stuffy. I was going to describe the place as "cheap and cheerful". Although only the cheap part is accurate. The prices are fair, and reflects in the quality and portion size of food on offer. The food isn't bad for what you're paying especially when you can get a drink included with your meal. If I'm looking for a few (cheap) drinks on a night out then this would be the place I'd drop by. If you're looking for something with atmosphere (and a good time) then I would give it a miss.

Yuk what a ghastly run down pub. Needs a total refurb as soon as possible. Didn't enjoy my experience at all. Dingy and grotty decoration. Had the table near the only window which looked out on broken chairs, cages of cardboard and rubbish. Horrible experience never to be repeated. Didn't stay for anything to eat...

We really wanted a "proper dinner" for lunch instead of Italian/burgers etc., so we went in search of a Wetherspoons and we weren't disappointed. It is quite a large place and it was very busy, as are most places on a Saturday lunchtime, but we soon found a table and were served quite quickly. We decided on the Christmas lunch and it was delicious. Served with a soft drink it was £7.99, or £8.99 with an alcoholic drink, which we thought was very reasonable. The food was piping hot and there was plenty of it. We will be visiting here again next time we're in Cambridge, I'm sure.

What to say .. Me and my friends went to Duxford museum and decided to stop at the regal for a beer and some food and we weren't disappointed I had the 14oz rump steak and I wanted it cooked medium and it was cooked perfectly just like my friends sirloin was cooked to temperature and my other friend had rack off ribs and it literally fell off the bone I would STRONGLY recommend going here if you are passing by enjoy your food and drink ......

I like Witherspoon's as its always good pub food often in unusual buildings. Came across this one whilst visiting Cambridge. Really nice art déco cinema. Staff were friendly and helpful, tables were clean and the meal was very nice, reasonable price also.I would definitely recommend the Regal if visiting Cambridge.

A typical Wetherspoons in an old cinema. It is rather dark inside but has a good atmosphere except at weekend when the cheap sound system is turned right up.

Just had a quick lunch at the Regal. The sirloin steak was juicy. Asked for rare & got it rare. Husband enjoyed his noodles. Good quality food & superb value for money.

Whats to say... The customer service was terrible as the staff thought that talking to each other was more important than talking to customers and taking our order!Food was cold and drinks tasted incredibly watered down.Tip? Don't eat/drink here.

Visited as a couple for drinks on s Saturday afternoon. Chose it especially as wanted to see the interesting building (former cinema). Very busy but good service. Did not eat but plenty of people were and the food looked good!Usual variety of diners/drinkers, covering all age groups.Well worth a visit!

Atmosphere was as we usually expect in a J D W : busy, well organised, a complete mix of customers chatting with friends, meals being consumed and drinks flowing freely.Whilst the staff were obviously working well the 3 different real ales we tried were all presented too flat (despite our requests to tighten up the pump), too warm and just lack lustre.This is not our experience in other J D Ws and so the 3 of us did not have a second beer each.

Whilst on a friends birthday night out he had an overwhelming desire to visit The Regal...whether it was memories or just seeing scantily clad young women.After manoeuvring over the sticky floor we started to spy, nudge, gasp and giggle at the sights we beheld!There was a football match on the large screen which had attracted more men than women.We were n t tempted to dance later, just watch in amazement of the confidence young people display. Great time, super security, chatty and efficient.Thank you on behalf of an old man!

We visited the regal as we thought it a safe bet with the food, as the kids are familiar with the menu. Inside looked a little dated, but it is nice and big and there was a lot of seating options. We thought it ironic that 'David' the bartender would need to request proof of idea but looked about 12 himself! My sister ordered for herself and the kids first, as my item was out of stock. I think The bartender needs a little more training as he kept getting the order wrong. I ordered a burger and chips which took 9 minutes (!), however my sisters food took an extra 10 minutes but arrived cold... The kids both received the wrong food, which was eventually replaced. Which meant we all ate at separate times! The food was ok, my apple crumble was a little floury... The ambience was as expected.Ok I know it's a wetherspoons and you get what you pay for (food was pretty cheap), but we have been to better - better food, better service.
