Great service, great food. What's not to like? Highly recommend 👍

One of the most famous steakhouse in Cambridge, is it worth the hype? Sharing chateaubriand was tender and juicy, cooked to the right temperature however flavour was not very strong which is understandable as it’s from tenderloin but even without chargrilled flavour it tastes bit bland. Ribeye was better, cooked to the right temperature and great flavour and still tender enough. Nice chips and salad, sauces were okay but red wine sauce was bit watery as the seasoning was not strong enough. Very quick and friendly service, foods arrived in good time, cool and cozy interior but some chairs and tables felt bit uncomfortable. Overall, great service with average food, not sure if it’s worth the price as I can think of good couple of other steakhouse in Cambridge that has better value and quality of the steak

Probably one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. The prawns tasted off completely inedible and the salad that came with it was an overpriced joke. Staff were polite and friendly though.

Excellent place for meat ! We had the Chateaubriand and it was cooked perfectly, nice side dishes and a decent wine list. The service was so friendly and atmosphere like a French brasserie. The view out the window is of Kings College which isn’t too bad !

Visiting during the festive period. The staff were attentive however service was very slow. The restaurant was nice however a bit outdated in decor and in need of some upkeep where we had noticed dust on the light fittings and scuffs on the wall near where we sat. The food was ok which would be fine if it matched the price. The meat is of great quality and was cooked well however the plates were not warmed when it was served so lost its heat quickly. The a compliments to the meat dishes served although the chips were very nice the salads that accompanied were lack luster with no creativity or variety. This was a shame as we visited Chop Houses' sister resteraunt the Mill Works earlier in the year and it was exceptional.

Lovely food, very friendly staff, very relaxing atmosphere with a nice view of King's college.

A MUST GO. The staff are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble, they really made us feel welcome and comfortable and their knowledge on the menu and drinks was exceptional. The food is outstanding, we will definitely be back. Thank you so much chop house

It is difficult to fault; we had a fabulous dining experience for nine. Good food, good value, pleasant environment and most excellent service. Well done to all!

Had a lovely meal, we all had steaks and cocktails, and the staff were attentive and helpful! We asked to move because of some other noisy guests and they accommodated us with no problems. Would definitely come back and would recommend this restaurant!

Large Portions The restaurant is always busy whenever I pass by this restaurant. Looks like a popular place. Feel gutted when reading the menu, as it's quite expensive. Now I understand why it's more expensive. Because it has the largest portion size than other town centre pubs. You get what you pay for. Food tastes nice though. The pie was full of tender meat inside. It's a well made pie with quality meat. 100% fool proof pie. While the pie of The Bridge( at the Waterbeach) has only a little bit of meat and a lot ofvegetables with a puff pastry on the top. The Sunday roast had quality beef slices. The vegetables were well cooked, no overdone issue. The potatoes were crispy outside and soft inside, not hard. Spot quite a lot of customers failed to finish their plates. I wondered how much food waste the restaurant creates everyday? Oh no. I strongly suggest you go if you have a serious appetite. Or with empty stomach. Busy restaurant, busy staff. The staff misheard me that I do not want to have a look on their dessert menu. Nevermind. We were too full to have dessert anyway......

First time visiting and I have found my new favourite restaurant in Cambridge. The food was outstanding the staff were all very friendly and the service was quick and efficient. The prices are on the higher end but the quality easily made it worth it, will definitely be back Addition - Been back for our second visit to the Cambridge chop house and revived the same 5 star service and food as the first time, cannot recommend this restaurant enough if you are happy to pay slightly higher prices but the quality and service justified the prices!

Absolutely stunning food, service and ambience. We came here for a works Xmas do in December; Around 20 of us. Usually that'd mean chaos, but the staff were absolutely on it with the service, and extremely friendly and funny too. The food was out of this world. Absolutely top steak. The wine list is also lush. Toilets are immaculate, and also play old comedy sketches through speakers. Absolute brilliant. 5*, would 100% recommend and will be back.

Department Christmas lunch, absolutely splendid food and great service

Great food, great service and a lovely vibe. Eaten here a few times but first time taking the children to. Safe to say everyone loved it. Nothing was too much for the lady serving us and it felt like a real Christmas treat. Thank You.

We booked the chop house for a party of three. But on the day we had two more guests joining us unexpectedly. Considering it was a weekday so we thought we would turn up and give it a go. We were greeted by an impatient waiter upon entry. When we asked if two more guests joining would be ok, the waiter responded with a ‘no’. While there were clearly empty seats in sight, the waiter consulted another staff member and the other staff managed to seat us down, which we really appreciated. We fully understand that the restaurant may have been fully booked, but instead of explaining this to us, our waiter was rude, annoyed and had a condescending attitude the whole time. The exchange was discriminative and made us feel really unpleasant. The food was ok, nothing to fault. But it was not a nice experience dining here because of this incident.

Fantastic visit everytime! Lovely staff, amazing food and all in the center of cambridge. A must if visiting the city.

I can honestly say that we had the best roast dinner that we have had in a long time ,fast service, amazing food and staff absolutely wonderful I would definitely recommend this restaurant and definitely return, Thank you

Visited on Friday 13th Dec, one of the busiest days of the year and they kindly fitted in my booking around the many Christmas parties. I will second the other recent review in that I was a solo diner but was made to feel most welcome indeed. The food was outstanding - I definitely recommend the ribeye. Great wine list with good selection by the glass. Their own beer - although I haven't sampled this yet - I will be tomorrow when I go back for Sunday lunch. Service was excellent. I'm making plans to bring my parents and my partner, so I'll be getting some more stamps on that loyalty card!!

Dined here tonight for the first time and it’s one of the most enjoyable meals out we’ve had. We had a late booking for 9pm as a last minute plan but so glad we booked it as it was a real find! Food was fantastic, from the haggis fritters to the pigs cheeks, the duck leg and my daughter’s favourite- the apple crumble Yorkshire pudding! 😋 Service was exceptional- and so rare these days so we really were blown away by how attentive the staff were. Cannot recommend it enough- lovely location, surroundings and really great ambience. We will be back! 5 ⭐️

Wonderful service and food. We didn’t realise that there’s a huge seating area. Staff were really friendly and accommodating. Food was excellent and arrived quickly. Only thing that spoiled it was that the table next to us contained a couple of very loud children who were screaming and running along the seats. Clearly not a reflection of the restaurant, but I do wish disruptive behaviour that like was not tolerated or pandered to in public establishments.

To call this a restaurant would be a crime against the passion for life. I came alone and experienced absolutely amazing dining. The atmosphere could make you fall in love. The palate experience could keep you in love. And the service helps you understand what love really is. Would recommend…

The pork chop was extremely good. We wanted to order a 2nd serving but later ordered another new dish to try. The pie was crispy outside with moist filling.

We visited The Chophouse for my wife's birthday as a family and had a fabulous evening. The menu is varied and interesting, the steaks are top draw quality. I highly recommend this very well situated and easy to get to restaurant.

4 of us had main courses and we all agreed our food was excellent and the steaks looked great. I had the chicken cassoulet which was a generous portion and very tasty. The desserts looked amazing but I opted for a coffee and jealously watched my colleagues tuck in. The service by all the staff was attentive and polite.

Delicious food, especially the chicken croquettes and the Brie bites!! A must try for sure. The roast was incredible too. Service was amazing, our server was so friendly and assisted with suggestions. Generally such a festive ambience in this beautiful restaurant. I will be visiting again very soon!!

Visited earlier today. I was greeted with a smile. Friendly staff. I ordered a vegetarian roast. It was ok. Not bad, not great. The service was efficient and received my food in good time. The thing I did not like was when I paid the bill, the waiter said to me “do you need change?”. I had already paid the service charge. I feel this was rude and ruined the experience. You would never ask someone in a shop if they would like their change, so why do it in a restaurant. I will not be returning! A customer should never be made to feel uncomfortable when it comes to the bill!

Very nice place to eat, really cosy and intimate. Staff is very professional and helpful. Prices very reasonable for what you get.

Wrong sauces delivered, cold steak, 45minutes for a new meal only to find a £1. 50 discount & a £1charity charge added with full service charge! ..complained as felt they took the mickey & apology was not genuine so had a discount on one meal.. Food was excellent eventually but the whole thing left a bad taste.. Will not return.

Great food and great service, definitely will be coming back! For starters I had salmon with the crumpet which was delicious and filling, totally worth the price, my partner had the prawn and shrimp cocktail which he also enjoyed. For mains I had the lamb, the only thing I would say is it would be nice to have more meat and less fat, I’m guessing it’s the cut of meat, but the fat was crispy and tasted good and the meat really was the standout as it was so soft , chips were delicious and I also had a mushroom sauce, which was rich and creamy. My partner had the iron flat steak which he very much enjoyed and nearly couldn’t finish, he had the peppercorn sauce which he said was very nice. Both had medium rare. For dessert we shared some ice cream which was a lovely end to the night. We also shared a bottle of 0.0% muscat which went well with our dinner. If you are a colder person request a table downstairs if possible or away from the main door, they do have a heater upstairs where we sat and we were comfortable but some people may need to sit downstairs. Will definitely be visiting again! Great service and great food!

Everything was absolutely fabulous, good, service, atmosphere. I would like to express a special thank to the people who looked after us last evening. We had a few special requests, and all of them were perfectly met with a smile and a lot of patience.

Could you please train your staff to let them know at least how to show basic respect to customers🥰🥰🥰 One kind reminder for future customers: Ask very carefully about each sauce, side, and main dish, or something else that they did not mention, or they would “automatically” add items to your bill💸 💸 Online menu was inconsistent with paper menu. They expect customers to read all menu versions super carefully and expect every customer to donate even though they do not ask us at all. We were a party of six. We booked for 6.30 on a Saturday night. The food was absolutely delicious and couldn’t be faulted. The reason for a three star review is that at 8.10 our server came over and told us we couldn’t order desserts as there wasn’t time as our table was booked for two hours. We had starters and mains and there didn’t seem to be any reason for us to hurry and the server didn’t seem in a rush to clear our table. We overstayed by 10mins to finish drinks and when we left there were empty tables and no further diners in sight. We spent £400 in total and were left very disappointed as would have all had desserts and coffee to finish. We won’t be back.

12 years ago we couldn't get into the Cambridge Chop House because we were told our children were too young, but it was proven to be a mix-up with a local concierge who wore an ill-fitting wig. I was sulking for many years and finally got over myself today (Graduation Day, as it happens) and paid a return visit, with our two teenagers, following a delightful tour of some colleges. It was very busy but somehow the lovely manager(ess) found us a table (thanks to some no-shows) and squeezed us in. She and her team kept an eye on us, without being overly-attentive and served up some fantastic food - including my 21 oz pork chop and a blueberry cheesecake. I can't remember which I ate first. It was all brilliant and we were allowed to sit there people-watching, as all the gowns and ermine passed by on the street. Well done CCH.....wonderful. I'll see you again in another 12 years' time.

We had an excellent set menu lunch here. We hadn't booked, but there were plenty of tables available at 1.00pm on a Thursday. The food was brilliant, service first-class and as we had a window table, we had a good view across to King's College.

It was a really amazing experience, the waitress who served us was very friendly and engaging. The food was delicious too.

We were in Cambridge on a Sunday and had to go for a roast. We had been recommended the Chop House as the best place in the city centre, and were not disappointed. I was a bit apprehensive as a vegetarian, but the cauliflower steak was delicious, as were the potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. My boyfriend had a steak. I don't normally like chunky chips that much but these were so good. STP delicious but what else would you expect

From beginning to end this restaurant was perfection. A friendly welcome, great service and really enjoyable food. This was our fourth trip but it was SO much better than the others we visited last week, it will not be our last. Thank you chop house!

Why do you allow people to sing Oasis songs downstairs? We attended at 6.45, downstairs was a private party in a side room, who were very noisy and sang every now and then - happy birthday was fine, but Oasis? WTF? Staff apologised but should have told them to shut up or leave. The food is good - chips a bit cold - but cuts of meat excellent. Brought a bottle of wine from next door which was okay for £20 corkage. Didn’t stay for dessert or coffee. £130 was fine. Atmosphere? 0. People were not enjoying it and you let it go. Read my other reviews and I am gracious but this was crap and the staff/management let it go and apologised for it. I know the answer is that it was a one off - I hope it is? - but ruined our night. Not me to pick a fight with them. That was your job.

Steak was ok but for nearly £40 you get choice of some fries or a salad. Surely you could stretch to both or a mushroom or a tomato as well to make it more interesting and better value. Also the Affagato has the smallest scoop of vanilla ice cream that you could possibly get. It just felt mean!

Prime location, great food, friendly and attentive staff, highly recommended. Great cocktail too. Ordered the Dedham vale rib, perfectly grilled. Prior booking is recommended to ensure window seat on level ground.

Unacceptable price and taste very bad. The steak is very salty and overcooked, I have ordered medium rare but turned out it is medium well.

Visited a few times now and is OK. Whilst the steak is good, it’s not the best in Cambridge. Have experienced both good and bad service. For the price point I would expect better.

Highly recommend this place 🌟 Service is great, and the food is flying out of the kitchen, as we booked punting at 4:05, we got to the restaurant at 3:00, and the waitress confirmed with us that we had time to have a 3-course meal 😆 which we did.

Haggis is a bit dodgy (poor recipe: too much liver, too little oatmeal, bland seasoning mix and can't understand why the onion was so big), not as good as the Denholm Meat Co. but meal overall very enjoyable.

Lived in Cambridge for 4 years, ate there today with family and it was simply fantastic! The phenomenal quality food, all dishes, great service and lovely layout. Loved it!

We ordered off the set menu. I had the sausage with greens and mash potato . I think, from the look and taste of it , it had been heated up in a microwave ….. the gravy was thick and shiny, almost that you could have stood your fork up in it. My friend had fish cake, hollandaise sauce with chips and salad. It arrived with every component on the same plate , a very liquid sauce with lettuce and chips soggy! We pointed this out to the manager who then bought a small bowl of very ordinary salad and a separate container of chips. He was about to disappear leaving her plate with soggy mess in front of her. We suggested she needed a clean plate at which point he grabbed a side plate replaced the Soggy plateful with it, tipping the fish cake onto it. After a few minutes we had lost any appetite we had . Eventually another waiter came and asked if we had finished . We stated our disgust with the food and their action . The ‘manager’ , he who had dealt with the soggy plate ,appeared again. Having listened to our complaint he did offer, on the house , the cheese board and another glass of wine as recompense. Finally we were only charged the pice of one set menu. I have visited this Chop house numerous times over many years apart from the last 2 years. On each previous occasion it has always been excellent so it was extremely disappointing this time. Perhaps it has come under new management or new chef ? We will no be going there again.

This restaurant is very good the food was delicacy and kind.

We visited the restaurant to celebrate my son's university graduation. Unfortunately, we were seated at a table close to the mens' toilet. As the evening progressed, increasingly pungent defecatory aromas from the toilets mingled with those of our meal. The effect was MOST unpleasant. I complained. The restaurant apologised, explained their cleaning routine for the toilets and encouraged us to visit again.

Had an amazing dinner! Ribeye was so tender, great chips and some vegetables. Considering quality of meat, location and service, we never considered it expensive. Highly recommended.

The receipt comes with a pre-applied discretionary service fee of 12.25% and a $1 CFF donation. Don’t mind the service fee and donation, but would be nice to notify upfront on the menu instead of having it pre-filled, and many wouldn’t voice out, which isn’t nice at all. Which is pretty much their goal.

Very expensive food which was average at best. Ok service. I choked on their pork crackling which seemed to be extremely dry rather than have any moisture which may have contributed to the frightening experience. While the staff were sympathetic, they reported that I was the third person who had choked on the dish in recent times! I would have at least expected an offer of a free drink after not being able to breathe but instead they charged a 12.5% charge without making it clear that it was optional. Never again.

Nice ambience food ok if a little pricey

We’ve had a delicious meal this evening at The Chop House. We had a burger and a pie and will definitely be back. We both said it was the best burger/best pie we’d ever had. I just wish we had of had room for dessert! All the staff we met were very friendly and welcoming.

Food was lovely, staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. We were in the room downstairs, a little dark but really welcome on a very hot day. I’d definitely recommend

We had all the “pre chew” side plates, which were fabulous. The Brie bites were a particular highlight for me, the olives were huge! My wife had a burger, which was unbelievable. I had the chop house steak, which is a shoulder cut marinated in herbs, cooked perfectly, mouthwatering. Service was friendly and attentive. The 12.5% service charge actually goes to the staff too, so the company as a whole have a big fat yes from me. Really enhanced our trip to Cambridge and we will definitely revisit should we return to Cambridge in the future.

A restaurant trading on the space it owns facing Kings College. I asked for my lamb medium (pink) and it arrived very well done, very dry and with a few pretty ordinary chips. Wasn’t priced cheaply but just wasn’t up to par. Could have done better on the barbeque myself. Shame as I had been looking forward to some top class cooking and meat.

I definitely enjoyed my lunch at The Cambridge Chop House! I came here by myself and I ordered a steak, which was really tasty. The restaurant is well-located and I could admire King's College from the window. Laszlo was really nice and Alexa was so welcoming. If I get the opportunity to go back to Cambridge, I'll definitely eat there again.

I chose the Chop House in which to have a celebrationary meal for our 50th wedding anniversary; What an excellent choice it turned out to be. The staff were absolutely delightful; friendly and professional. The food was delicious. I'd highly recommend it. ......and the had a wonderful choice of music!!

Good food, but a little pricey for what was served. The waiters were either absent or a little pushy. The mandatory 12.5% service charge (tip) should be clearly disclosed before ordering.

Came here for a Sunday lunch. We hadn't booked so we were very lucky to be able to be squeezed in. The service was super quick and the roast was massive!

Really good pies, burgers and meat. Nice place on Kings parade to hang out for a dinner. Very high standard food but a little pricey for my liking.

We got a lovely warm welcome, even though we were slightly late and got seated by the window and Vito brought over a complementary glass of prosecco each as it was our wedding anniversary, a lovely touch. The food and service was outstanding, couldn't fault it and my wife loved Vito's cocktails while l enjoyed the OTT pale ale. Alexandra our server was amazing, as l forgot to ask when ordering to take out the tomatoes and onions from my burger if there was any due an allergy but when l did ask when the starters arrived, she also checked if we had any other allergies, even though we had already been asked, spot on! When she served the burger, she had made sure that the dressing, coleslaw and onion rings (as my wife had them) were served separately as the dressing had tomato in it and the coleslaw had raw onion in it, l hadn't asked for this, Alexandra took it upon herself to arrange my burger like this and thought this was amazing service. When we left, Vito, walked us to door and thanked us for custom wishing us lovely evening/anniversary and recommended a further bar to visit for cocktails. We would highly recommend this restaurant in Cambridge, a lovely find amongst the many other places in the city.

Noisy restaurant with everyone shouting to be heard downstairs in the basement whilst playing music which made hearing your fellow visitors even worse. For the food it’s very expensive. My filet was chewy. I never wish to eat here again
