So many nice and accommodating people. Elliott and Rob with and other bartenders,so helpful. They assisted us with directions and suggestions on how to maneuver around the city. Polite and kind are a few words that describe the atmosphere. The professional workings with the cocktails were phenomenal. My first visit to the UK, and I am so impressed. They are definitely an asset to the Graduate.

Had a fantastic afternoon with my Sister-in-law for light snacks, and cocktails suggested by Kieran, which he made specially according to what we liked - superb. Kieran asked what we should name his cocktail and we came up with the name "Kieran's Secret". Kieran was the perfect host, welcoming and efficient. Note to management- please pass feedback to Kieran. We will definitely be back.

They would not give me a takeaway box. I had to beg them not to throw away my food and find a solution. They told me they would have to bin it. Finally after asking the manager to consider finding a solution she wrapped my food in aluminium foil unwillingly. She said if you go anywhere in cambridge there are no takeaway boxes! Haha what a joke and what a lie! They would rather have so much food go to waste! if I did not talk so adamantly that I was not going to let that happen they would be happy to throw the food away. Shocked.

Halloween Brunch £49.95. 5 cocktails included. Hardly any alcohol in them. We had 4 & questioned about the 5th one. Was told no because they needed us out to re set the dining area. We eventually got the 5th cocktail which tasteless. Oh & beware they add on £30 service charge, which we had taken off. Will not be going there again.

Tea arrived and 5 minutes later had to ask to sugar and tea now cold. Gluten free afternoon tea arrived with what looked like spam in the bread cut into large triangles not finger sandwiches as the other afternoon tea. Request for one person to have no chicken or salmon and the whole party of four were excluded from it. When called the restaurant NOT to complain but voice my experience as a learning curve for other the Manager wasnt available to take my call and has never called back. The whole experience was shocking and I would not recommend it to anyone

Had a meal here today that was a set menu for £50 per head and honestly was so disappointed. Tiny slices of salmon to start . small peace of duck on watermelon and a waffle that was full of duck fat....and no desert for the price...we were so hungry we ordered separately two portions of chips at £11.00 and then to top it all had to pay a £32.00 service charge and was asked if we wanted to leave a tip !!! I know Cambridge is expensive and it's not about the money but this food is poor ! Will not be returning The hotel bar was lovely . drinks 🍸 were lovely and atmosphere really nice ..but this restaurant is awful...would definately not recommend

**Date of Visit:** August 27, 2023 I recently dined at The Garden House within the Graduate Hotel in Cambridge for a special occasion—a 60th birthday celebration with my family. We had high hopes for an exceptional dining experience, but sadly, it was anything but that. Our visit was marred by multiple issues, primarily related to the service and the quality of the food. **Booking and Menu Miscommunication:** Before our visit, I had contacted the restaurant to discuss our menu preferences. I was informed that The Garden House would be open until 19:45 on that day, but what I wasn't told was that the A La Carte menu is not available on Sundays. This lack of communication resulted in limited choices for our vegetarian guests and left us all feeling quite frustrated. **Inadequate Service:** To make matters worse, when we were seated in the bar area and handed the bar menu, we faced additional problems. Our initial order included two servings of sourdough with hummus and olives, expecting four pieces of sourdough per serving, as stated in the menu. To our surprise, we were served only three slices of sourdough. When we inquired about this discrepancy, we were informed that the management intentionally provided fewer slices, citing cost-saving measures. This was disappointing, to say the least. **Food Quality Concerns:** The food quality was equally disheartening. My husband ordered the vegetarian platter for two, which turned out to be bland and notably smaller than anticipated. It was originally listed as a platter with meat, but we opted for the vegetarian option as indicated on the menu. We asked the waitress about this, and her response was that it included "slightly more vegetables." Not exactly the enticing alternative we had hoped for. Additionally, two of our guests ordered the battered fish, which arrived severely overcooked, resembling more of a burnt offering than a culinary delight. **Service Shortcomings:** The inadequacies in service continued as we had to request side plates, cutlery, and napkins on multiple occasions. To make matters worse, we encountered an argumentative staff member during these interactions, which further added to our disappointment. **A Ray of Hope:** On a positive note, there was one staff member, Becky, who processed our payment and showed genuine empathy when we shared our dissatisfaction at the end of our meal. Her professionalism stood out amidst the other challenges we faced. **Lack of Response:** Following our initial disappointment, I completed the feedback request email sent by The Garden House. Regrettably, we received no response. Subsequently, I made a follow-up phone call to the establishment to express our concerns. The individual who answered the phone requested that we resend an email outlining our grievances, promising a response. To date, we have not received any communication from the staff or management. In conclusion, our dining experience at The Garden House was marked by poor service and subpar food quality. It is disheartening that no member of the management team has reached out to address our concerns. We hope that this review prompts a swift and appropriate response to rectify the issues we encountered and ensure a more enjoyable experience for future patrons. We eagerly await your response. I would give this restaurant no stars if I could. We booked in advance but were left waiting for a table and then were moved. No-one came to take our order after 30 mins, and then I signalled to the waiter we were ready to order. She came over and we ordered drinks and food. 20 mins late no drinks had arrived, we chased up and apparently there was a bbq going on which is why it was taking so long. Walked back the bar and they were doing nothing. It was so awful and the maitre’d insulted me and my husband so we walked out. Had a much better dinner with better service a 5 mins walk away at Browns, which was excellent.

All had to be ordered at the bar. They didn’t have laggers, only IPA and Guiness. Food wise, mains came 40 minutes later and starters came AFTER the mains. Then had to wait at the bar to pay another 10-15 minutes at the end. Not giving 1 start since the weather was nice outside.

We attempted to book a reservation for approx 20 guests for a special birthday celebration. The frustration of trying to speak to someone via the telephone really needs some attention! Nobody was very helpful, We opted to book a table online... the website said we had taken the last garden table for 6 people. On arrival there were no managers present to assist with our booking, no staff at all in the garden to control the seating plan. It went in our favour and all of our guests were able to sit and enjoy the celebrations around our one table. Clearly no need to book or to stress yourself out trying to plan an event here, just turn up and suit yourself. The food was very basic, this was disappointing as we had read there was a BBQ menu so we're hoping for some outdoor cooking, some atmosphere and music would have been nice, but nothing and no one to be found. Just many customers hungry and thirsty! Many other guests including our party had to move dirty plates and used glasses from tables, very poor. No fault of the team working that day, they were certainly trying their best. In order to receive any service we opted numerous times to go inside to the bar. The bar team were clearly understaffed and were dripping in sweat! They worked tirelessly to serve the crowds. No management in sight! The young team are in need of a pay rise, they did a fabulous job at keeping up and made some extremely tasty cocktails. Thankfully we had a wonderful afternoon, but no thanks to this hotel. Their communication was poor, little to no service all afternoon, and zero atmosphere in the garden, such a shame, Such a waste of a fabulous space!

We booked Afternoon Tea as a birthday treat. Unfortunately, we nearly walked out before we had started. Service was slow, even though it was not busy (a 3pm booking saw us only starting to eat after 3.30pm....), and on asking for decaf tea, we were told it would cost extra......????? We challenged this and after a chat with the manager, it was allowed after all. We could not believe it was such a challenge to have decaf tea in this day and age and at such a venue. The afternoon tea it self was nice, the cakes in particular, but it all felt very amateur and not what you expect such a venue. We will not be rushing back any time soon.

We came for cocktails and dinner. Unfortunately because of the rain we couldn't sit outside but found a nice table with a view of the river. Unfortunately, the music was so loud we were unable to hold a decent conversation. We did ask for the music to be turned down, but the indifferent waiter said "it's up to the DJ, he controls the volume" and walked off. We went into dinner hoping that the noise level was less in there. Not so, again the music is so loud it is hard to carry on a conversation and even the waitstaff had an issue hearing us. But now the food: menu was uninspiring. £4.5 for 4 slices of bread and butter, £5 for less than 25 almonds! I ordered the COB chicken which was more like a deboned Cornish hen. Very small, lukewarm and uninspiring. Two others had the mackeral, which was OK and one had a steak that was just OK. The skin on chips were the highlight of the meal! Rose wine was reasonably priced. The citrus tart for dessert was excellent but the Cambridge Burnt cream was more like an overcooked, curdled creme brulee, not good at all, and a very uninviting brown color of the custard. We did complain to the matre d about the music and he agreed with us, but said that the bar controls the volume! Would be come back..........no! There are plenty of better restaurants in Cambridge

Didn’t get to try the food as they ran out(?) of sandwiches for tea. In addition, the online system accepted my reservation but they did not see or prepare for my reservation because I had made it 50 minutes before I arrived (why accept them then? Who knows, but the staff made sure to let me know I should’ve made it earlier multiple times.) Getting a table then involved 3 staff including the manager. To top it off it was incredibly loud and the waitress was both inexperienced and unpleasant. At this point I was so fed up with the whole experience I just left. I think this is the first time I’ve been so annoyed by a restaurant I’ve written a negative review so maybe that says something.

Wanted a sandwich and had been here before when it was a Hilton Doubletree hotel. Sat outside by the river - an idyllic spot! Asked at the bar whether we needed to order at bar, reply was yes and a table number would be given when we’d ordered. Not cheap but went for two club sandwiches, salmon and honey chicken small bites. Drinks took a little longer than we’d like but it was sunny and most tables were full. It was at least 30 mins wait before husband went to enquire about our food. It was by the bar, on a tray, just waiting to be delivered. When it came, chips were stone cold. We were hungry and had to be somewhere so sandwiches were eaten. Husband quietly asked to speak to manager. After one lady came to ask were there any problems, the manager came out. He was polite, as were we, and offered 50% off the bill “as we’d eaten half of the meal”. We didn’t quibble. Would definitely expect better from this “high-end” hotel. Apparently the delay was due to the waiting staff not knowing what table the food was for. Either use common sense and look for a table of four or get your systems sorted. If we’d taken a table number at the beginning we could’ve quoted that to the till staff. I don’t think we’ll be going back despite the perfect location. We sort of expected it when we arrived - all fur coat, no knickers!

Lovely atmosphere in the garden but food was very overpriced and below average. Prawn starter consisted of about 6 small prawns akin to those you’d buy in Tesco with a teaspoon of rocket beside. Club sandwich underwhelming and almost £20. Disappointing as the setting and interiors are lovely, and we were celebrating so hoping for a much better meal for the costs. Wouldn’t eat here again.

I had a table booked for 1pm for 4 people 11 June. My husband and I arrived a bit early (20 mins) looked in the restaurant doors and couldn’t see anyone so went to the bar and said we had a booking for lunch in the restaurant and was told the restaurant was closed today. I queried it and said I don’t think so I have booking and someone eventually went off and checked and came back and said oh yeah they are open from 1pm, you can get a drink and wait. We stood at the bar and eventually asked the person standing in front of us cleaning glasses if we could in fact order some drinks and was only then told we had to go round the other side of the bar and order. We did and then sat and waited for our friends. At 1pm we went to the restaurant and was seated. We were handed a paper menu and firstly were disappointed to see it was much smaller selection then what was on your website. We had been seated a very short time and someone came over to ask what we wanted, we informed them we had not even had a chance to look and could they come back, they came back again in no time at all and we had to send them away again, the third time they came over (again not that long in time) we said we will let you know. We felt like we were being rushed. We made our choices and called her over. We ordered the bread and asked if they had olives and was told no although I was sure they were on the online menu. We then ordered our mains and away she went. In a very little time the bread arrived, it was 3 half slices of sour dough bread with rock hard butter. Surely when there were 4 of us at the table they would have thought to say actually you only get this amount would you like 2 but they didn’t so we had to then order another one and wait for that to arrive at which point we asked them to warm the butter as it was so hard it was ripping the bread when we tried to use it. The second bread arrived and before we had started to eat it our mains arrived. We tried our mains and it was cold. We were the first serving of the day so to have cold (and it was totally cold) food was very disappointing. We called someone over and asked if they were the manager and he said yes, we told him all our food was cold (the potatoes and cabbage that were in separate bowls were warm). He agreed to take them away and bring new. It took a few minutes for our plates to be cleared and very soon after our mains appeared again, a little warmer but we had one less carrot on our plates (there were only two in the first place). Soon after the roast potatoes arrived and then after quite a wait our cabbages arrived and some more carrots. To be honest it really was not the best service and we were very disappointed. The manager said we could have puddings on the house. The food, although still not piping hot, was nice but nice is as far as I would go. We ordered puddings and they were very nice and then a bit later on we ordered cheese and biscuits. We had to wait quite a while for this and had to chase them up. They did not arrive with butter and we had to ask for some and they returned with one small round of butter for the four of us. When the bill came they had charged us for all the food and the cheese and biscuits but they had missed a round of drinks off the bill so we decided not to complain and get it amended. The bill was £198 for the 4 of us and we paid £200. This is not a cheap lunch and to have so many things go wrong we would not recommend you to return. The service is very slow and to be honest they did not seem to know what they were doing nor did they appear to even want to be there.

The employees were friendly and hardworking but there were simply not enough of them. Service was slow and most of the beers that should have been on tap had run out. We sat at a table covered in the previous occupants’ glasses and dishes and waited a long time for it to be cleared. When the food came it was good, but the cutlery and condiments came in dribs and drabs. Not what we expected following previous visits.

Recently went here for the first time on a date night with my partner. We had read a review of the place being remodeled a few months ago so wanted to check it out, as photos looked pretty swanky. This review is for our dinner experience, and we're both vegetarians. Overall, I would give the place 4.5 stars -- 4 stars for food and 5 for general ambiance. We had the veggie burger and artichoke caserecce, drinks, and dessert. The artichoke caserecce was better than expected and we were pretty pleased. On the other hand, the veggie burger was only decent, and left much room for improvement. Note to chef -- the veggie burger could be improved significantly by upgrading your buns. The buns currently are pretty dry and taste not fresh -- if you got a tastier bun, it would improve the taste by probably 30% -- the patty was more or less fine and the other ingredients/sauces were good -- but yeah, the buns really sunk it. Drinks were fairly priced, and the dessert (ice cream) was quite tasty. The ambiance of this place was fantastic though, definitely on par with other very nice spots in Cambridge such as Six Rooftop bar. On that front, I would definitely give it 5 stars.

Poor management. We made reservations for noon through their website, but nobody was there when we arrived. We confirmed with Google, which said they opened at 12:30. Then we asked the front desk, who said it was closed until dinner. We ended up eating in the hotel bar since we had an appointment afterwards, but even a single burger and fries took 35+ minutes to arrive.

The best service I’ve received in my life at a restaurant and I’ve been to many restaurants across the globe. The Sir Gentleman Cristian will always take care of you and his team. If I could give rating I’d give 11/10. Food amazing Michelin star chef. Can’t go wrong. I’ve been on several occasions for anniversary. Also lovely in summer where you can go out side on the garden and see the canals where people are punting. Much love🙏 🌹 💝

Food was amazing, service was awful.. we were asked to leave twice within 5 mins and the table next to us had been there longer. They had empty tables but still persisted in getting rid of us.. so disappointed as we don’t go out often and this was a treat and we were treat terribly. Got there 7 mins early and told we were too early so was sent to the bar to get a drink. Then after all this they put a service charge on which I demanded they took off. Would never come back due to poor service, was not told in advance of time restrictions on table. Went to the mill pub after and was treat better there only having a drink.

Enjoyed a lovey meal here as part of Cambridge restaurant week. Really good quality food and great service. We had seared trout for starter, a main of quail and one of sea bream followed by a really incredible rhubarb cream tart. Good quality food done really well. Great wines too! Had enjoyed the food here three months prior at a work event but this was top notch.

Mixed feeling about the place. The food was average, not very well seasoned or presented. Quite pricey for the result. The atmosphere is nice, but we struggled getting the attention of the staff to order, had to chase for a drink order, a bit slow overall. Waiters are very friendly though. Better food would have me come back, but not as it is.

Happily surprised by the marinated tomato salad. Interesting combination of round and cherry tomatoes. The dressing is refreshing. The basil reminds me if pizza, but this is healthier and brings no less joy. The salmon needs a bit more searing and seasoning. Though the fish is tender and juicy, it’s also quite oily. The salt and pepper and lemon wedge helps a lot. (I had to go back to the menu to realize it is supposed to be soya and mirin glazed.) Roasted kale is also on the oily and bland side. Perhaps I should have opted for green salad, although it’s cold out there. The staff are friendly :) The ambience is cozy-cottage. Judging from other reviews, I guess the dish quality here is fluctuates with hits and misses. Might come back to try regular menus.

It was a bit disappointing, attended for a works Xmas meal. No table decorations except crackers.(which were nice) Food was mediocre, all put on a plate instead of tureens on the table. Cranberry sauce came out when we had started the meal. There was a table with coffee, cups & milk which we were meant to serve ourselves, but they were asked to serve the coffee at the tables for everybody. Erratic service. For the price could be better

I came here for the Sunday lunch and I couldn’t fault it! The restaurant is beautiful, the staff were welcoming and helpful -our server Dimitrin was particularly brilliant! There wasn’t any gluten free options on the menu but he spoke with the kitchen and made arrangements with them so I had some options. The food was DELICIOUS, me and my family all agreed it was the best tasting roast dinner we had ever had. I highly recommend visiting here and we will be back soon!

Aesthetic location with very friendly and helpful staff. Sadly, it is dragged down by horrible food and extortionate prices for what you are getting. Avoid the steak at all costs. Chewy, full of fat, and any traces of taste are drowned out by the overpowering sauce.

I booked afternoon tea for my partners mother and I to celebrate her 60th birthday, the only positive thing to say about our experience at this establishment is the company I came with. Management had obviously over booked but were understaffed. I walked past the bar area twice and heard staff arguing with each other because of how busy they were, not very nice to witness staff arguing with each other. The food was below average. Our sandwiches had obviously been pre made which made the bread incredibly dry and no filling, like biting into a dry sponge. The scones tasted okay but the texture was hard, not a soft scone in the slightest. One pot of tea came out but only 1 cup to drink from, by the time we were able to grab the waitress attention again to get another cup the tea had gotten cold. We ordered a few cocktails which were very nice, but that's the only positive thing I can say about my experience here. I complained about the dire afternoon tea we were served and I did get a 15% discount which was appreciated considering we had to go and eat somewhere else after. All in all a disappointing experience and can say for sure we will not be coming back again.

What a joke of a place (literally, read on for a good laugh). Tried to book an outside table (for supper) on a nice hot day online but only inside was allowed. So I called them and asked if they can make a plan. Was told yes so we got there only to be told by the same lady that she booked us a nice table by the window?!?. I asked can we check if there is one available outside, she said yes and there was a perfect one so we walked out and sat down at which point a waiter arrived and told us that this table is reserved?!?! I asked how is it possible to reserve when I was told by their reservations this cannot be done. At that point the story changed and he said we can sit but only if we are going to order food?!?! We said that is exactly what we want to do and he reluctantly let us sit (saw him do the same to a number of other customers). Beware they do not serve customers, you have to walk to the bar, queue and carry your own order to the table. After getting drinks we asked if we can order food and were told that they are not taking orders right now (18:00?!?) but maybe in half an hour. At 19:00 we asked again but still nothing. At 19:30 I complained about it and was told that they have a big function with 400 people which took them by surprise (we all know that these kind of functions are spur of the moment kind of thing 😂😂😂). Guy also said that they should start taking orders in 30 minutes and he will personally come to do it. Guess what, at 20:30 I stopped a waitress to ask if they started and she told us that they will not be serving food at all that day!!!!! Incredible!!!

I have never written a negative review but feel very strongly about giving my honest opinion about the Bar at the Graduate Hotel. The Bar menu is extremely limited and uninteresting. We were served by a young man who came across very arrogant, impatient and unwelcoming. He said he didn’t have the time to make up a cold drink for my mother. The bar was quiet and a few minutes later he was patiently giving directions for a venue to a customer. I had to wait a long time for my cappuccino to be made because only one person was trained to make the coffee. It’s a great shame that the bar menu and service was such a let down to such beautiful surroundings.

Restaurant expensive and very limited menu - £26 for cod, with sides on top. We moved to the bar where the food is more reasonable - £16 for fish and chips. Sadly the other dish (salad) was delayed by 20 minutes as there had been a problem with the ticketing system between the bar and kitchen, there was no apology and the salad just placed on the table. Overall, it was ok but doubt I'll go back.
