The Refreshment Room in High Peak

A lovely place to have lunch before starting our walk along the Monsal trail. The food was so lovely and fresh, and Molly, our waitress was very attentive.

If your stopping by, please bring your own lunch, the restaurant have no love for the elderly at all, £12.50 for a small jacket potatoe and 3 sides. Saw 2 customers turn away as the price was just too steep its honestly ridiculous. The food was also cold and not at all tasty put me off comibg to this path in the future if this is the best they got

Warm with a friendly welcome & service by Dane, particularly welcome as the weather was horrible. Nice vegan roll. Have visited a number of times and will do so again.

After hiring a bike at Hassop Station this proved an ideal lunch stop. I'd had takeaway on the way past before but as its was raining I sat in the cafe. A great range of cakes and plenty more too.

Friendly, and ideally located; we had cycled along the Monsal trail from Hassop station, and we were in need of a refreshing cup of tea. Which is exactly what we found here! Thank you. The cafe is right next to the trail, and you can sit outside and watch your bikes while you catch your breath for the return journey. Perfect!

Lovely little cafe along the Monsal Trail. Popped in for coffee and cake! Cakes were absolutely delicious (recommend the date slice)! Prices were also good for the size of the slices. Staff were very friendly and helpful with directions.

On a hot sunny Sunday with two small children, could not find any shade outside so moved into the indoor seating area (about 12 tables, completely empty) to keep them safe from the sun only to be told we could not sit there as told the counter we would sit outside. Fair enough but we would have happily paid a bit extra to sit inside if given the option. Total lack of understanding or sympathy from the staff. Surely a bit of leniency and a pragmatic approach needed here! Worse was to come, when my cheese wrap arrived with just cheese inside a wrap and not the salad and onion marmalade it was supposed to come with as written on the menu, I went to point this out but was met with total rudeness from the young girl behind the food counter who made it out to be my fault for not asking for the other items (even denying they were even on the menu!). I eventually got the salad (didn't take long!) but no apology. She clearly needs to be taught who the paying customers are and some lessons in manners wouldn't go amiss either. Being very busy is no excuse.

Called in here for 2 x bottle of coke along with a snickers and mars bar for our journey home (15 mins as local) total came to £7.30! The main reason for my review is the rudeness of the young girl who was serving behind the counter. I was quite taken aback at her abrupt manner to the gentleman infront of me being served, then come my turn, I greeted her with a smile and a friendly hello, I got nothing whatsoever back, not even a faint crack of a smile or even eye contact. At the end of my brief encounter with this young girl I couldn't resist but to tell her to smile, I know the calling of Buxton carnival would of been her prefered choice for a saturday, her reply to me amongst other exchanges was 'whats your problem'. I must add I was not rude or abrupt to this girl, my intentions were friendly. After all why would a human being be so morbed to another for no reason. Whoever owns this cafe/shop needs to teach this young girl and any others that some basic manners when serving paying customers is priority, or if that's too hard at least have a smile to greet people. We won't call in again when we next go walking up there and the price was eye watering.

I visited today for lunch and myself and my wife both ordered ham and tomato sandwiches, very nice, especially the bread, very fresh and hand cut artisan type, we decided to have ice creams afterwards, really lovely ice cream flavours, but I knocked a star off my review because of the tiny size of it, must be a contender for the worlds smallest ice cream serving, the small ball of ice cream balanced on top of the cone was that small it only covered the middle part of the cone with plenty of wafer on view round the edges, as we ate our ice creams outside( to be honest didn't take very long )we had a good laugh at peoples expressions and gestures of disbelief as they came out of the shop with their joke sized scoops of ice cream. There was a young lad doing the serving so I would like to think he was new and didn't really know what he was doing because if it really is the correct size he was told to serve, it will just leave people thinking they've been ripped off and leave them with a bad experience, which is a shame as apart from this I enjoyed my visit, I would return again for lunch but maybe have an ice cream at the cafe further up the trail

Stopped halfway through walk. Terrible sevice, rushed, brought extremly over priced very very average food to table no drinks. had to remind then check again as food eaten and still no drinks. The coffee was the worse I had drank tasted like very cheap instant not out of a coffee system that they were using.

Asked to leave indoor seating area which was practically empty to stand out side in rain and eat our food as we didn’t say we wanted to be inside at point of order……. Felt a bit unreasonable and could have been handled in a more customer friendly way 😊

Half way through a 10 mile walk, we needed good coffee and sustenance. We found both at the Station. Good coffee and a very tasty scone (with jam and butter) at a fair price.

You are always there to help keep me and my abseiling clients cool when it's hot, warm when we're cold or wet. We love your coffee, your locally sourced ice creams and I eat far too many of your yummy Farmers Sausage Rolls and Scotch Eggs. I have to resist the homemade cakes and tray bakes. Your young team work hard to keep everyone happy, fed & watered and I have always been served with politeness and a smile. Thank you from Pete & the Abseiling Derbyshire team 👍

Expensive and not much thought which went into the presentation and delivery of the food. It was nice, but felt a little rushed

We are a local business and held our team meeting at the Station Cafe, I was able to book a table in advance and pre ordered food. We arrived to find the table laid with jugs of water. The waitress service was exceptional and the food was divine, 3 different allergies were successfully catered for. Locally produced food was served and the products were sustainable which fits in with the ethos of our company. Only disappointment was not having enough room for dessert.

The rain that had been steadily falling the past two days had stopped, allowing a noontime February sun to force its way between the gaps in an overcast sky. Warming the faces of the cyclists, the dog walkers and the hikers who have stopped here, on this train platform, to rest their feet and their bicycles while they enjoy their victuals of choice. Bought from the railway station's Refreshment Room. Mine was a blueberry and almond slice of homemade Bakewell tart wrapped in a paper bag and washed down with a takeaway coffee served in a 100% compostable disposable cup. Everything is made from trees. Everything returns to the earth. Everything is non polluting. Just as it should be. The train is late. In fact the train will never come. The island platform. The one sandwiched between the two railway lines that are not there. The island platform has not seen footfall for many a year. Covered in tufts of grass and overgrown with moss and other deleterious material it exists only as a symbol of the thump and clang steam industrial past. Sitting here outside the refreshment room is peaceful and tranquil and well worth a visit.

Lovey coffee, excellent date slice Outside it was 5 degrees and the cafe had no heating. I feel for your staff who were all cold. I asked why hasn't they at least lit the log burning stove to which they said they were not allowed. This is no way to treat staff or customers. Disappointed

After a few miles walking my elderly mother-in-law was struggling to walk as she is partially disabled. So while I went back to get the car from another car park to come pick her up. she went in the café & ordered a cup of tea & some toast & was told she couldn’t sit in the cafe while she waited even though there was plenty of room to sit in & was told that she could take out her food outside as the tables were only if she ordered a bigger meal. It was raining heavy out but they made her wait in the rain & get soaked instead of doing the decent & kind thing. It’s a sad world we now live in when people don’t lookout of those who need. Just very disappointed

Popped in after a nice walk along the trail. The old station room is well set out, light, airy, comfortable and has an ambiance of years gone by. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. We enjoyed our meals which came with plenty of fresh salad leaves and were well presented on attractive tableware. Our only negative was that from the car park there was no information/indication that this café existed - potential customers are missing out on this little gem

Ordered 2 bacon cobs and 2 coffee's. Really nice when they arrived but was quite a delay in getting them. Great place for a wonder and a relax

I would advise to perhaps stop for a hot drink etc somewhere else. A staff member was not very accommodating on the verge of being very extremely rude not just to us but other customers too ( shocking )

This cafe is situated in the old station nearer the Buxton end of the Monsal Trail although there is also a cafe on site. Good lunch options and very nice.

For all I know, you may hate your job but to the young lady who works there, at least try and smile and be polite and courteous, it actually costs nothing and makes all the difference. It may have made the horrible coffee in paper cups a little more palatable.

On my first ever visit to the Monsal Trail this was an ideal place to take a breather! Sited on an old railway station it was the perfect place to have something to eat whilst cycling the trail. Not a large choice of food but...

Lovely stop to grab refreshments, ice creams and food whilst completing the Monsal trail. They could do with more benches on a busy Saturday lunch time, however, if you walk up along past the cafe we found space to sit on the old station platform and dangle our legs over the edge.Staff were friendly and coffee was fine.

So busy it took a while to get orders and receive a drink by number yelled from a window. The ice cream was nice though.

We were riding the Monsal Trail and were pleased to see that the cafe and toilets are both open again. It was a good place to break for a snack and comfort stop.

We came in for 2 hot chocolates and 2 paninis. Hot chocolates were amazing. Well presented. Location fantastic for walkers. We came back for cake.

We've stopped a few times at this cafe and would thoroughly recommend it. Polite and helpful staff, lovely sausage rolls and fresh rolls, great coffee. You can sit inside or outside with your dog. Great little place.

We arrived on a Friday lunchtime. After walking 6 miles we were looking forward to a lovely lunch.! How disappointing that despite the door sign saying you were open you were closed. We saw an * that said may change with the weather, but it’s not really good enough. You either open as advertised or state that you are closed. We even checked your website for opening hours. Whilst we were standing there another 3 couples turned up and were disappointed. We all went to the Anglers Rest instead. In 15 mins you lost the trade of at least 10 people. Not many businesses can afford to lose that sort of money. We won’t rely on you being open again . We will just make straight for the pub.

Great location and very cosy when busy. Down to three stars as was told they had semi skimmed milk on ordering but was actually given skimmed milk, personal taste I know but would have changed the order if had realised it wasn't available. Also on my first visit on Tuesday it was closed, despite website having said winter opening 10 to 4pm. The sign seen on Tuesday's visit up on the door says mon tues shut, wed to fri 11am to 2.30pm, sat sun 10 to 4pm. It would be good if the website had this information updated to save disappointing potential customers,

Visited after a short walk down the trail & back with the children for some lunch & a cake. The staff just weren’t welcoming, nobody seemed interested in putting in any effort. The place could do with some character & warmth, perhaps with the new renovation that’ll come. Food was average at best & pricey for what came. Much prefer Hassop Station for next time.

On a walk from Longstone on a freezing cold January morning the twinkling lights of the revamped tea rooms was a welcome sight. I had a lovely piece of homemade cake and a hot chocolate for under a fiver and brought to me in person. The old station building has been ythoughtfully restored. Recommended!

Decided not to eat as the prices were ridiculously high (£7.95 for a panini!)Service was slow and staff seemed more interested in wandering off to do other things than serving the long queue at the counter. On the plus side it had plenty of places to sit, inside and out, dogs are welcome, and the area is lovely.

Perfect place at the old Miller’s Dale station as a cafe stop for bikers and walkers. Plenty of room in and outside, with lots of choice. A new visitors centre is being developed, so visitors will be able to linger longer!

We've visited The Refreshment Room a couple of times this year, most recently last weekend on a family walk. On both occasions we have enjoyed a bite to eat and a drink that have been great value for money and very enjoyable. On our last visit we were advised that the wait for food would be about half an hour; it was more like 15 minutes which was a bonus. Due to the popularity of the cafe, we had to sit outside with our 1 year old on a chilly day, so hopefully the cafe can find a way of expanding in the future as it's a great place to visit when on the Monsal Trail.

The best rocky road I’ve had in a long time. Lovely mug of earl grey too. Staff looked good in their Halloween outfits!

Decent enough place with a good selection of snacks and drinks (which is what we were after). However the "lady" who served us was exceptionally rude. Huffing and puffing and as good as threw our drinks and cake at us. Customer service at its best. Best avoid and definitely won't be returning

Such a welcome spot to stop off. We only had tea and cake but it was lovely. Proper tea in a mug!The place has been done up very nicely. Not that big though so if you were part of a large group and the weather isn’t good enough to sit outside I would call them first.

What a nice treat to stop and enjoy lunch whilst on the Monsal Trail. The service was good and the staff very friendly. We each had a tuna sandwich. The bread buns were a bit too big but our tuna sandwiches were delicious. We'll be back again.

A popular place on the trail with efficient service. Unfortunately, a coeliac in our party was served Victoria sandwich cake which was mislabelled as gluten free and has led to much illness. We also ate watery eggs as well as sallow coffee which were served without a smile.

When you suddenly need to re fuel or spend a penny then this is great ! Friendly service, lovely home made cakes and eco friendly take away containers ! Well done as at times it gets busy !

Ideal place to stop off if you're doing the Monsal Trail. Good choice of food and drink. Toilet facilities. Seating inside and out and plenty of bike stands. Read the info board - historical site.

Called in last week when on a bike ride. Friendly staff, lovely coffee, even do decaf. Cakes were gorgeous. Prices OK especially for size of cake. Quick service to table outside. Enjoyed it so much, recommended to friends while out walking in the area today and we popped in for ice cream. We'll back on our next bike ride, thank you.

Good stop off while cycling the Monsal trail. Converted railway station right on the track. Toilets, cakes and coffee. What more do you need?

I was amazed by the quality of the various lovely leaves in the salad and the length of the queue to get served, but this place has value and quality nailed. The decor inside is creative. Tables have names not numbers. Staff are heroic in the face of the deluge of hungry customers, their appetites sharpened by their various outdoor activities along the stunning Monsal Trail. An impressive little cafe and brilliant location.

This little café is situated in the newly renovated station buildings at Miller's Dale on the Monsal Trail. Adequate parking, with some disabled spaces. The inside of the café is light and bright, with comfortable chairs, wooden tables and period accessories. It is also very clean. There is outside seating too. We had a very warm welcome. The menu is varied with a children's menu as well. The food is very good and fresh, plentiful and well served by the delightful staff. Plenty of choices for drinks and they do a wonderful mocha! All credit to James and Carly and their staff, who also run the café at Castleton Visitors' Centre, which we can also recommend.Whether you walk, cycle or just turn up in the car, this is a lovely place to stop for a snack lunch, with the added bonus of lovely views!

Lovely stop during a walk or cycle on The Monsal Trail. Renovated/converted station . Lovely choice of home made food. Presentation and quality really good. Served by dedicated staff. Well worth a visit. We had the butchers ham and cheddar cheese and tuna melt paninis, both lovely and served with crisps, coleslaw and salad. We followed this with delicious ice cream served in a choice of cornets or a tub. They also have a good choice of home made cakes. Do give them a try I believe they are newly opened and really pulling out all the stops to give you a lovely experience.

Having completed the majority of the Monsal Trail to find this stop was most welcome. The facilities were good. The menu was varied and plenty if choice. The service was quick the food was beautifully presented. The staff were friendly and most obliging. If we ever do this walk again we will certainly make sure we stop here again.

The is a small cafe on the monsal trail. The cafe is about what you would expect, the staff are good for a cafe, but the food is really good, much better than expected. Also good value for the quality of food.
