The cooking is top-notch. I wish I could have eaten all my grub! Cauliflower soup with Camembert toasties would have been enough all by itself. But we also had wild mushroom suet pudding with rich gravy, outstanding! Dessert was a chocolate cremeaux (no I don’t know) with dots of a very raspberry purée and hazelnuts. The food here is inventive, even for veggies, but absolutely solid and satisfying.

The location was perfect for the town and one of the cheaper hotels. The downside was no on-site or street parking. There is a car park behind the pub but it's expensive at £30 per day. We parked a 5 minute walk away (in Holman's Meadow) for half the price. If you're only staying the night both car parks charge £2 overnight (9pm to 7.30am). The staff were lovely, friendly, and helpful. The rooms were clean, comfortable and of a good size. The room we were in had an opening skylight as opposed to a window and although it made a humming noise when part opened, it did not stop us sleeping. The food was ok, tasty and cheap. Breakfast could have been warmer. Lunch was better, and best of all - the warm cookie dough sandwich; the only thing I remembered to take a photo of! Well, that, my sparkly shoes and the Hugo spritz cocktail ;)

Popped in for a drink before getting a train, 4 minutes round the corner. Early so good choice of seating. Saw there was a happy hour sign available for guests from 6-7 pm. Plenty of cocktails being ordered. We just had an IPA and a G&T. Nice friendly place

I visit Herne bay about five times a year. I used to go playing the Amusements in neptunes and used to eat lovely fish and chips there. They used to be free because I played the machines. When it closed I tried deans place as the chef worked there after neptunes closed. The fish was still nice.. Fast forward years and the fish portions seemed smaller. The last few times including this one the fish batter is softer. Fish was smaller and not as tasty This time granddaughter saveloy was hard. Not like a saveloy taste imo. My fish was small slimy texture and soft batter insipid flavour and chips looked anaemically white. Nothing special to taste . . My wife's wasn't too bad but at nearly fifteen pounds each i won't ever go again.

Firstly, the security outside of the pub told my friend she wouldn’t need ID to enter, after asking the rest of our group for ID, and then proceeded to touch her around the waist inappropriately. Secondly, we noticed a racist sign on the wall, my friend alerted the bartender who was extremely rude and gaslit us saying it’s been there ages so it’s not racist, attached is the photo.
