Great meal this afternoon, the food was lovely & plenty of it too. The staff were really friendly, and welcoming , and our order was taken quickly. Nothing was too much trouble. Would defo recommend. If you want service with smiles & good homemade food.

Came for the first time today to meet some friends who have been before. Such a lovely little pub. Beer garden is huge & so peaceful sitting by the canal watching the barges go by. Shame the weather 🌦️ changed but nice anyway. The food was so nice. I just had homemade chilli on chips which was really tasty. Other meals were 1 of the specials chicken dish with Brie potatoes etc which was thoroughly enjoyed a fish & chips & a loaded chips. Desserts were profiteroles a sundae & brandy bread & butter pudding with ice cream which I had & have to say it was absolutely delicious. A lovely quaint traditional pub with a fantastic beer garden definitely recommend coming here. Would definitely return.

We went in the evening to meet with some old friends. This was the first time hubby and I have been here. The meals were lovely I had Cajun Salmon with salad and potatoes cost £15 Approx, hubby had the steak for the same price which was very good, and he said it was fantastic. The staff were friendly and we felt no pressure to leave. A really good first time experience. We will return

A welcoming place with plenty of parking and warm, friendly staff. The vegetarian breakfast was very good - and excellent value at £10, including toast and a pot of tea. Neighbouring meals looked good, too. We'll worth a visit.

Previously turned up early for late breakfast and around 12.30 were asked to vacate the table for the lunchtime bookings. Had no problem with this as we’d been there for a couple of hours and hadn’t booked. Next time we decided to go for lunch and booked a table. Everything was rushed - no offer of the sweets menus and within an hour was asked to vacate the table. We queried this and they said they only allowed 1 1/2 hrs for lunch (we had been there less than an hour). We now prefer the pub the other side of the canal as that gives a lunchtime dining experience rather than the red lions cafe approach. Will not go again.

Have been going to the red lion for years and especially enjoy sitting in the garden by the canal. Today weather wasn’t good enough so ate indoors. Now I have been telling everyone how lovely the chips are( I always say the best in the world!). Not today however. How disappointed I was. I mentioned it to a member of staff and he said he thought they had changed supplier. What a shame, probably to cut costs. I would have happily paid a little more, and I’m sure I won’t be the only one. Nothing stays the same unfortunately. I would be interested to hear what the owners say

It could have been 4* but just a few pointers. Haven’t been since new owners the decor has changed and looks really nice. The beef dinner and the trio of meats was lovely too. I found the beef had gone through the slicer and was cut thin and every slice was perfect beef was cooked a bit too long for me I’d rather have it a bit pink. Would we visit again definitely yes. Wish bar staff served drinks in the right glasses.

We had a lovely meal good service coukdnt complain about anything. We stayed on for drinks as we were enjoying ourselves. All was fine till we had to leave, due to covid regulations there was a one way system in place which was ok but both myself and my husband have mobility issues and found that we had to climb down a steep staircase and then walk all the way round the outside of the pub and climb another steep staircase to get out. As far as we could see no provision has been made for disabled people at all. This spoiled our evening out and it has made it impossible for us to visit again. I thought it was illegal for public places not to make provision for disabled people.

My two daughters grandson and great grandson had Sunday lunch and were so pleased we couldn't fault a thing. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, and the food was great . We sat in the garden afterwards , there was a DJ and we really enjoyed the whole experience. We will certainly be back in the very near future. I should say at this point I am a fairly critical person and would complain if things were amiss but every thing was very good and also good value for money.

We visited the Red Lion, Hopwas on Sunday 2nd May for a family birthday. We all had a Sunday roast outside on the terrace. The meal, especially the roast beef, was delicious. The meat was plentiful and tender, the vegetables were all fresh, the roasts were fluffy and crispy and the portion size was large. We would all highly recommend a visit to this friendly pub to sample the food, which is all home cooked. We will definitely be returning soon.

We visited to meet with family not seen in a long while. All travelled a fair distance to meet. We had booked lunch for later in the afternoon and, in the event, met initially for coffee in the morning. We were met by friendly and efficient staff who explained the ordering and paying system clearly and we had a table with a view of the canal. The food was excellent and despite being fully booked came in a very acceptable time. A big thank you to the staff and kitchen. We had a great time

Mark managed to squeeze us in on a busy Sunday afternoon for Sunday lunch for 4 adults and my son. Great food very fair portion sizes, garden is great for children. Also may I add your ordering system on the app is by far the best system I have come across so far!

The coffee was cold, the food was ok but nothing great and the manager was just Rude! Steak sandwich was not worth the £8 price tag.We went out of the wrong door by accident as it was the first time visiting since reopening. The manager just muttered at us rudely instead of politely redirecting us, even though we apologised.Will mot be going back. There are enough nice food places around here with pleasant management staff - we don’t need to support such a mediocre establishment with a rude manager.

Wow , we picked our Sunday roast up yesterday - first one we've had from Red Lion ! It was absolutely beautiful thank you. The friendly service , food and wrapping kept everything so hot till we got home to Stonnall. We'll be back as we didn't have to do a thing apart from unwrap the plates , wonderful. Well what can I say, another amazing meal for Mother's Day from The Red Lion, Hopwas.Meeted and greeted by the lovely staff and landlady. Again a pleasure.The food.. wow. Amazing. My partner & I, and our 2 children had been looking forward to this meal, especially after Xmas. Not disappointed. Perfect.The value.. bargain. Prices so cheap in my opinion. I can't believe much money is made by all at The Red Lion.. and I honestly don't think that is their priority. Such lovely people, more concerned with good food and looking after everyone.Overall, outstanding service, food and value for money.I would again recommended anyone to get a takeaway during this lockdown.We can't wait until they are open, and we can sit in the restaurant and enjoy the proper service.Thanks again everyone at The Red Lion.

In spite of the difficulties of the pandemic, a delight to have spent a couple of hours here. Efficiency personified, from the telephone booking, seating, table service, great food and excellent ale.

Have always enjoyed our meals at The Red Lion but haven't visited since February.Didnt disappoint,all in place with after-lockdown guidance rules and felt very comfortable. Attentative and friendly Staff, Food was delicious making it a first class experience.Well done "The Red Lion".

Arrived just for a drink and owner seemed rude.He then allowed us in the pub with covd restrictions to order in the lounge right next to people eating.tables not sanitised between guests and dirty glasses left.They have a one way system to exit but that involved walking past around 30 people into the bar which was crowded and not following covd guidelines.felt very unsafe even just having a drink.

Booked a few days ago for Sunday lunch for four - and we were very impressed. We chose the Red Lion because it had a reasonable vegetarian menu and one of our party is vegetarian. We've been to the Red Lion many times over the years, but haven't been recently - and it didn't disappoint. Excellent management of the Covid 19 restrictions, attentive and efficient staff - and some first rate food. Sunday roast (I tried all three meats) was the best I have had locally; daughter pronounced her blue steak as 'perfect' ; son loved the chilli and daughter-in-law enjoyed her vegetarian pasta. The pub was spotlessly clean and it was lovely to see no fewer than five dogs pass through the doors, not to mention a few pushchairs! This pub caters for everyone - and it does it very well. Prices are fair and the bar staff/waiting staff were polite, efficient, friendly and professional. Nothing negative to say about the Red Lion at all. We'll be back!

I had a family gathering and asked the red lion if they could provide pizza’s to take out, in response they said no trouble at all. The service was superb and the food was excellent. Great service and Great place to eat.

We recently visited this restaurant, although we were in uncertain times the safety of all was observed. There was 6 of us and a toddler, the food was freshly cooked and of a good quality, three of us had steaks which were cooked exactly as we requested, salads were very tasty as was the gammon and lasagne. A lovely setting also next to the canal well worth a visit. We will be back if we visit the area again.

Popped in for afternoon lunch Monday after pub next door claimed to be fully booked . We were pleasantly surprised staff were very efficient and helpful . Food was good value for money and good selection and tasty. Nice outdoor seating area and garden. Would visit again now.

Having visited this pub on many occasions, I am very happy to say that every meal I have had at the Red Lion, has met my expectations. Wether that is in the winter, last Wednesday night when I had a fabulous 16oz steak, or last summer when I sat on the side of the canal with a extremely cold pint of Heineken, this is friendly place to take colleagues for a business lunch, or the family for a super evening meal. Very easy to recommend

Being a keen canal boater based in Coventry I've had a few opportunities to eat and drink at the Red Lion and I have to say it seems to get better every time I call in. The latest visit was for a pre-booked Sunday lunch which I can't fault apart from saying that my own preference is for gravy to be served seperately. The rustic bread starter was delicious, the main course was perfectly prepared and presented and would have satisfied the heartiest of appetites. The sweets were nothing special but still perfectly OK and the whole meal well complimented by smiling, friendly and very efficient staff.

We popped in for a late Lunch and I have to say, we were both impressed. The interior is really lovely, they've kept that cosy pub vibe but it's also refreshingly modern too. There were quite a few people having lunch too, for a Tuesday that's a good sign. The staff were very welcoming and warm, the food was excellent pub food done very well. The Nachos for 1 was huge and delicious, fresh fresh fresh plump slices of red chilli which was sweet and not hot, generous helpings of Guacamole and Sour Cream - no horrible plastic container dips, this tasted excellent. My jacket potatoe was crispy skinned and deliciously soft and creamy inside. My partners steak was rare, thick and tasty, good quality meat. We noticed there's a breakfast menu, not sure if it's all day, but we'll definitely be back to try it!

Popped in here for an impromptu Sunday dinner with Sister-in-Law and Brother-in-Law, we hadn’t booked so we not certain of a table. We were lucky and offered one that was reserved for later as long as we were to leave by the time of reservation. We opted for a roast dinner, myself the turkey and the others, the trio of roast meats. I have to say this was the tastiest roast I’ve had in a long time. The vegetables were distinguishable from each other in texture and taste, not just mush, like so many other pub roasts, and the food was piping hot, YES! Thank you! Pub was clean, atmosphere was great, staff friendly - quite honestly a great Sunday meal. Would definitely recommend.

We met up with our nephew yesterday at the Red Lion as it’s half way between us.Had a lovely friendly welcome from one of the staff and was shown to our table. Food was lovely, we couldn’t fault it and it arrived promptly. All staff were polite and friendly. We will definitely be back soon.

First visit here in many years & will definitely be going back again. Starters and main meals delivered promptly despite a large group also eating who ordered before us. Cannot fault the speed, service or the meals, very reasonable sized meals all piping hot. Enjoyed by us all. Plenty of staff available and busy.- sign of a good pub/meal.

9 of us adults and 2 children had our Christmas get together meal here today. No one had any complaints about the food and the Sunday beef roasts were thoroughly enjoyed. The highlight of our visit was definately the staff nothing was too much trouble everything was delivered promptly and with a smile would definately recommend and would book again without hesitation.

Food was excellent, family of 5 and we all had different items off the menu, everything came out at the same time piping hot, everything was delicious. Cury, pie, lasagne and American chicken. Staff were all friendly, helpful and polite.

Always been an excellent pub for food and drink, but they've recently also added excellent toilets. I don't always give 5* reviews, but sometimes you really have to.

Went for lunch on 30th October 2019.the lasagna was not good.very little pasta meat was all clump together and was very sloppy and to tomatoey.mu friend had cottage pie cheesy mash her mince was all clumped together and some of it was still pink.and potato was not that cheesy.we could have gone somewhere else for a lot cheaper but this place had been rated good.and for £10 each meal on a lunchtime i would have expected a lot better.sorry I wouldn’t go again.and wouldn’t recommend.

Been here a few times now but each time food has been sooooo bland! Chilli tastes like nothing at all; sweet & sour chicken (on Specials board!) totally bland, no sweet, no sour! Prawn crackers so caked in oil! Fish and chips, all batter little fish and chips which taste of oil!Given enough opportunities now so won’t be going again.

Friendly, local pub, serving great food at a reasonable price. Visited from our narrowboat for the third time in three years and it did not dissapoint, we were made to feel welcome and the staff were attentive and patient. The food came very quickly, was piping hot and very tasty. The night we went we were told a booking was not needed and it was quiet when we went in. When we left there was not a table to be had. Says something about a popular local hostelry!! great job long may it continue.

We had originally gone to the Otter across the canal, but left in disgust and thought we'd try this place next door. What a gem, traditional pub, with separate bar and lounge area. Clearly looked after, and clean, despite renovation on the toilets, food and service were both excellent. We shall definitely come again, glad we tried it.

Visited early on Saturday evening. We had booked a table in the bar area as we had our dog with us but as it was a really warm evening we sat in the beer garden. Family and dog friendly. It was so busy we were lucky to get a space in car park. Food is home cooked and well presented with a good selection. We shared nachos which was a generous portion and then curry which was good. Plenty of space outside and lovely setting by the canal.

Moored up in the canal near the pub and enjoyed a huge Sunday lunch for just under ten pounds! Service was excellent, plenty of customers and a great atmosphere. Food was quickly served and both the roasts and the desserts were lovely. Thoroughly good feed!

We do eat here regularly with friends, we always have a good meal and it is great value for money, the staff are very friendly and helpful. They also serve breakfast and Sunday lunch we have had both on several occasions and enjoyed every time.

Visited on busy bank holiday Monday. Sat outside by the canal. Meals arrived quickly and home made pie with mash and fresh veg wad excellent. My daughter enjoyed her veggie sausage and mash. Staff were good. No complaints. Would visit again. 5 star

Jane her team went out of their way to make our double landmark birthday surprise celebrations an absolute success. I am delighted that she and Mark are back in the village and have made great progress with uplifting the decor.Becky was extremely welcoming and attentive. The chefs and kitchen staff produced 22 meals in a consistent and appropriate order, keeping table tabs to help us with dividing up the bill. Our beautiful cake was displayed really well and the staff very obliging when we trying to divide it up between the family hoardsWe had 10 children in the party at some point and they were all very happy with their food and the play area; access garden via the decking was an added bonus for us all. And the grown ups loved the freedom to eat and drink without worrying about the kiddies disrupting us or other diners. No one expressed any complaints about the food, the choice or the prices.Mum is particularly nervous about going out these days which made me anxious about how the event would proceed about but she was made so welcome and comfortable that she thoroughly enjoyed the experience. So a happy Mum, very happy sister and a heap of treasured family members made for a very happy organiser and in large part this was all made possible by the crew at The Red Lion. Thanks guys....

We as a family love this place. The staff are all excellent so helpful and friendly , and the food usually excellent, however , the past 3 visits have been so disappointing.Visit no 1 breakfast. Usually best in the area , but this time several items missing off the plate , the place was very busy so put it down to that. The waitress did offer to get the missing items when I finally to speak to her but other members had finished Visit 2 also breakfast , again very busy, got all the items but it all looked ‘tired ‘ as though it had been plated up a while , Beans all congealed .Visit 3. Lunch today had a special .mash cold lumpy, pork steak tough ,left most of it. Other part meals fine One other thing, we have the same breakfast order every week but the price is never the same !!What’s happening here? Is there a new chef? Like I said we really love this place and have recommended it to to many people.Hopefully it’s a summer season blip!Update ! Good pub grub and freshly cooked but please get the carpet changed and get your staff to clean the place ie toilets , tables etc! , very off putting !

We as a family love this place. The staff are all excellent so helpful and friendly , and the food usually excellent, however , the past 3 visits have been so disappointing.

The two areas of this establishment are divided. It is so rare to see this nowadays. The dining room is tastefully decorated and tables are of a good size to spread out. Tab easy to set up. Good choice of foods which arrived promptly and were tasty. Lunch time menu had meals as well as snacks and lighter meals. Very enjoyable.

Although we live about two miles from The Red Lion, and pass it on the way to Tamworth frequently, it must be 20 years since we ventured inside.What a serious mistake. Despite remaining externally unchanged, the interior is very smart and modern looking. The staff were extremely friendly, the service was excellent.The menu was more extensive than many found in a pub (as opposed to a restaurant). The prices were moderate, by local standards, the meals we had were splendid. We strongly recommend you give the Red Lion a try; we will certainly not leave it 20 years before we go again.

We had the pleasure of organising a surprise 70’th here last night, it was a busy Saturday night, however our party of 30 was well catered for. The pub has had a stylish makeover. The staff were competent and friendly. Owner - Jane went out of her way to accommodate us and the food was well received, no lengthy waits, no missing orders and it was tasty in fact faultless. Thank you for a lovely evening, will be back !

My partner and I were looking for a pub that was dog friendly in Tamworth, we visited this public house on Sunday 14th July 2019.We viewed the online menu and it looked perfect , my partner wanted a traditional Sunday lunch and this was on offer, we arrived at 12.25 and were offered a table in the bar area, we had our dog with us and we completely understood this.Drinks were ordered at the bar and orders for food were taken, the starters and the main courses were excellent and to be totally honest exceeded my expectations, the service was friendly and courteous and could not be commented on negatively,food was served on warmed plates and it tasted freshly prepared, all items were perfectly cooked and the entire experience was a pleasurable one, in this day and age it’s always a bit hit and miss trying new places to eat but I will not have any hesitation whatsoever in returning to this establishment, places such as this that deliver in all areas deserve to to well, I had not been to the Red Lion for approximately 15 years or so as I moved away from Tamworth, we will definitely be returning.I did advise the young lady who accepted our payment to pass on compliments to the management, I would have thanked you personally but realise you are busy.Table for 3 + Westie opposite bar

Love this place and happy to call it our local. The food is good home style cooked style ! Brilliant selection of drinks. The garden area is really nice and the playground is brilliant for the kids. Highly recommend.

We have been in this pub for drinks but never for food. The Sunday lunch was excellent, all fresh vegetables, very nice meat (Turkey & Beef) .Food served hot. We will be visiting again.

We’ve just come home from having the most amazing Sunday lunch 3 Thick slices of perfectly cooked Roast Beef, Broccoli, Carrots, Cabbage, Roast Parsnips 4 big Roast Potatoes and extra gravy well worth £9:95 only one criticism was too big will certainly be returning..... the new decor looks amazing and the staff were very attentive and to top it off we were not frowned upon for asking for a table at no notice on Fathers Day

Had lunch here last weekend - we've often being to The Tame Otter on the other side of the canal but thought we would give this place a try and we weren't disappointed.

Bank holiday weekend, busy busy busy but yet still fast and effective, delivered top quality food. Great location and ideal for family's will be returning 😎

We visited for lunch in May 2018 and i cannot fault anything about the visit.The service from start to finish was excellent by Melissa. The food came out fairly fast and it was all very good. The location is excellent for a family day out with canal walks and the woods opposite. There is a play area for the children and it was reasonably priced. We will be returning.

We called in this morning for breakfast, as we were moored outside.......the breakfast was lovely and a good price. The pub is dog friendly and they even gave us some biscuits for them, so the dogs had breakfast too :)

Visited for the first time in about 6 years recently and was impressed from my previous experience.

I am going to start this review by being honest, we didn't actually plan to go here. We had a table booked at the pub across the water but they clearly didn't think ahead and plan efficiently for the sunniest bank holiday on record and announced they simply couldn't take any further food orders....so over the canal we went. We had our 2 dogs with us so sat outside and immediately felt relaxed. We ordered food and drinks and the service was fabulous. The staff were all lovely, really friendly and helpful and kept on top of the tables outside and it. Me and my partner had the burgers and they were beautiful, proper butchers burgers and the chips were lovely. We will definitely be returning throughout the summer, thank you for having us.

Been for a walk one Sunday morning up hopwas canal stopped off here on way home dogs are allowed in the bar even a bowl of water and tub of dog treats. Coffee was lovely as are the staff.

Went for lunch/roast,we had pork, huge portions and delicious.don't have a starter unless you want to burst at the seams...Food and plate were nice and hot. Really friendly waitress and bar staff,will definately be back but will ask for a child's portion next time.

Excellent dinner here last night. What a breath of fresh air, great service, food was well presented and served well. Had a gin and tonic as a pudding. Was a lovely changed to find someone knowledgable about how it should be served! My favourite gin served in a lovely copa glass, ice and frozen mixed berries Look forward to a return visit soon.

Went here with my husband as something different as we usually go to 'the other one' in Hopwas. My how...

Stopped off on the way for something to eat. However we were really surprised by the excellent value and the well cooked and fresh food. Highly recommended and will definitely call again.

Very lively place with the music on and the new bar is awesome makes it a lot more inviting now. We also had food on this evening I had the mixed grill! Would fully recommend to anyone with a big appetite, great value for money and top quality!!!

Friendly atmosphere, gorgeous food with very generous helpings, the management very kindly added complimentary teas and coffees for the volunteers, will definitely book again for next year.

Haven't had brek here since our Daughter was a baby...she's now almost 13..so after a shop at Ventura, we decided to give it a try.

We came here on Christmas Eve during a long walk originally our booking was made for 7 which ended up being 11, the staff ensured that it was not a problem and were able to seat us all together. Despite paying and ordering individually within our group all meals came out together to enable everyone to be eating at the same time.

35 of us had an excellent Christmas Lunch well cooked and with good service. Enjoyed by all our members.

Stopped here on Monday for a quick lunch. Really impressed with the friendly staff and the service. The food was tasty and plentiful (good sized portions.) Although the weather wasn’t great we had a little peek outside and I can imagine it would be a great place to visit in the summer. There was a huge beer garden overlooking the canal.

We actually intended to go to the Tame Otter, the other side of the canal, but they snootily turned us away as we had a dog and didn’t want to freeze at an outside table in November. So we popped over the canal bridge to the Red Lion wher we had a great lunch. They welcome dogs warmly - ours ended up as one of three. They happily provided water and dog treats too. The menu for human food was a bit dog eared and was pretty standard pub fare, with a supplementary children’s menu and a starters menu and a specials board. All our choices were good, from a simple salad to a hefty serving of lasagne (and chips and garlic bread - 3 carbs in one!) via generously filled jacket potatoes. All were freshly prepared and good value. There was a nice selection of cask beers too. So in the end the Tame Otter’s loss was both ours and the Red Lion’s gain. Great lunch at a reasonable price.
