Dreadful service. Tasteless food. Never go there again.

Atmosphere was great, but the service was average and the food was really below standard. Ordered the curry that had 3 small pieces of chicken in a sauce that didn't taste like curry. Arrived without the Naan and poperdoms. After I asked about the Naan and the poperdums the waitress came back with 2 poperdums and said the Naan was finished so they gave me 2 poperdums - which was part of the menu anyway (didn't check that it was okay with me or if I would like something else) . My 5 year old son ordered his meal with a garden salad and it arrived as old lettuce leaves and red onion. No cucumber or tomato in the salad. My father's double cheese burger was so bad that he didn't finish it. To seal the deal in service, they deducted money for the meal twice. Which will only be paid back next month and only after we had to enquire why we paid for the meal days after we paid.

Went to the penny black today. Me and my sister go in every week and order a chicken sub and a chicken wrap. Went in today ordered the same. A fish sub was bought out. So we said we didn't order fish. the waitress who has always been very lovely took it back to the manager, to which the manager came over to the table in a very rude manner and argued with us for 5 minutes saying "she said fish" over and over again. To which I explained she wouldn't have ordered fish, I don't eat fish,. He said she did say fish and he read it back to her and she said yes. Whether he miss heard what she said and read it back and she said yes not knowing what he had said I don't know but she definetly ordered chicken. He then proceeded to say well you've ordered it so that's it. Walked off and started slagging us off at the bar. Very rude, poor customer service to stand and argue with a paying customer. He's obviously in the wrong job. The waitress came back and changed it in the end by this time I was too wound up to even enjoy it anyway. Complete waste of time and won't bother again.

Arrived for the Euro final, the place was absolutely packed! The bar and door teams were absolutely fabulous from start to finish!!! An absolute pleasure to be in a crowded pub that effortlessly kept everybody happy! We had the food early on and can recommend the baguettes! Thank you to everybody involved for a truly great day/night, your efforts were very much appreciated!

Rudest service I've ever experienced

Big shout out for Jamie this morning in the penny Black Tamworth staffs All on his own and delivering excellent service . Talk about a one man band. And of course whoever was in the kitchen. Wonderful service. Will definitely be going back. Kind regards 4 pensioners.

Gods pub for sports in centre of Tamworth

It's an okay place, part of Stonegate. Music too loud, decent ale and a good breakfast.

Strange one this. The entire experience reminded me of a social experiment. It all felt like it was a reunion for a failed GCSE hospitality course. However, there was one member of staff who was exceptional and kept the whole experiment together, red plaited hair in ponytails, white shirt, she was amazing. Would return.

Think of Stonegate's Craft Union pub chain. Add food and you have it. Really friendly staff.

Leaving this review because it's on the ale trail and it is SO not an ale pub.

I visited on Saturday with my family and I’ve got to say the place is absolutely spotless the gentleman who I believe is the general manger Jamie was fantastic although he was being verbally attacked by a very chav like family he stayed calm and professional taking on board at all times his other customers i don’t very often eat in town venues with my children but the food was fantastic other than this particular family that tried to get freebies we would a million percent be returning to this high street venue stonegate you should be proud of this young gentleman running this venue he’s an asset to your business see you soon Jamie and your fantastic team

Aggressive manager who was unhappy with a complaint about a portion of chicken which was ridiculously small (£6 for 3 chicken nuggets). Despite small family with children refused to serve us as we asked for a refund for a meal which was very overpriced. Rest of the meal was fine, other members of staff were lovely. But the manager has no customer service skills at all.

Lunchtime visit in twixtmas. Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Food was tasty and arrived soon after ordering. Standard drinks offering. The venue looks tired though, and in need of some tlc.

The DJ on Saturday night played some good music but only played a quarter of each song. It’s like he had no attention span and couldn’t wait to play the next song. Very frustrating

Came here with my partner for lunch we ordered what we normally order, chicken and bacon melt but cause they changed the menu the cheese came out like a nacho cheese which is way more than needed and my partner isn't a massive fan of cheese so i asked if we could do a new chicken with just the bbq sauce which (AMY) came over to say they won't change it due to they isn't nothing wrong which I stated that the cheese we got on the old menu was melted but is a lot less and less mild cheese, she started to get aggressive with when telling her about the old menu and why It can't be changed in short she walked off with no care, she is definitely not a professional member of staff and not someone to deal with also I was told by another member of staff that I'm not the only person she has had heated moments with, definitely won't be returning here knowning we did go here regularly another customer they have lost

We had a good experience at The Penny Black in Tamworth! After an afternoon of shopping, we popped in for a bite to eat and easily found a table and were quickly served at the bar. We enjoyed watching the football game while savoring two rare steaks cooked perfectly, a mixed grill, and three delicious fudge cakes. The food was served promptly and tasted great. I recommend this place for good food and efficient service.

Just in town and thought I we would try here for a bite to eat on a saturday and really impressed. The food and drink was excellent and not only that you didn't have to wait ages for the food considering it was a saturday. There was a sport bar effect with a few televisions on show but not all the way round so you didn't feel surrounded. The price was really good a pint and a half of Peroni, all day breakfast (2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausages, beans, mushrooms half a tomato and a slice of toast) and a Chicken and Bacon burger with chips all for £18.50. Definitely come again. Very friendly staff as well.

Only problem I would say is if you are going to charge £1;50 a game of pool 🎱 please make sure the table is level. It's got a terrible roll on the left side near the wall .

After a day out nearby we found this place for our evening meal and was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and served with a smile, all staff were super friendly and very welcoming and helpful.

We came here to watch the women's England v Columbia quarter-final game. We decided to have breakfast and a few beers whilst watching the game. Having not eaten in here for many years, we were really surprised with how great value the food was. We both ordered full English breakfasts and for the money we paid, felt that you couldn't beat it! Great experience, I just wish that they would improve the toilet facilities!

Rude staff especially the manager who dont take responsibility for the actions and mistake they do . Instead they take it out on the customers making the atmosphere of the pub not nice to go too .

DO NOT USE !!!! AWFUL RUDE OBNOXIOUS THREATENING, Parents who are pensioners visited on 9th August with my daughter , they ordered a wrap chicken burger and chips , cheese Mac burger and chips and separate onion rings plus drinks and paid upfront, they received drinks then after a while the waitress came over and dropped off onion rings chips and Mac and cheese balls which were presumably the sides as waitress just walked off, so started picking. The waitress came back about 5 mins later with the burgers wrap with more chips and onion rings but again said nothing . At this point my parents thought they’ve just put a few more on the plate . They all ate the food and the sat there for about another 20 mins then a male(Jamie Williams manager) came over shouting saying they had had food they hadn’t paid for and immediately said he was calling the police very threatening, my dad explained he didn’t know the waitress had mistakenly given us extra .The manager wouldn’t let them get a word in edge ways shouting they had stolen food it’s like walking into Tesco filling your trolley and walking out( I’d love to know whichTesco you can fill your trolley for a total of £9 ). Manager / Jamie Williams said the lady at table 18 had previously been Sitting at table 15 where my mom and dad were and refused to admit liability. My dad asked the woman if she had been sitting at table 15 previously and she said she had always been at table 18. So a blatant lie by Jamie,Meanwhile my mom had to visit the toilets due to the upset and her anxiety she heard bar staff say it was waitresses fault and that she had given it to the totally wrong table. Even after this there was no apology and my dad had to pay for their mistake before he left. This would not of been the case if I was there taking advantage being rude ignorant and aggressive to pensioners with their granddaughter . Just common courtesy , customer service skills and good will you would either right it off as it was their mistake or approach it in a polite and civil manor . Do not use !!!! the only time I will be visiting this establishment is to see obnoxious manager Jamie. I can see why Jamie Williams has had to do a fake 5 star review himself , so god knows how many more of the reviews are also fake !!! Thought Jamie would come back with a pompous and unjust reply as he has never acknowledged any bad reviews and is just in denial of his actions . Should be ashamed he needs to learn the difference between the meanings of given and taken . As for the women shaken by a grandad and granddaughter asking her excuse me have you ever sat at that table over there at all and her replying no I’ve been here all of this time ok thanks shows how delusional you are Jamie !! Talk about deflection at its finest

Bar staff were very helpful and pleasant. Drinks choices were good. Some vegan options. 3 Bean spicy burger was really good. Very chill atmosphere, great spot near the castle.

Good food, friendly atmosphere, enough screens for a live sports game, giant screen in the centre and friendly staff.

Reasonable prices and great bar staff

We visited this pub before going to a concert at the nearby assembly rooms. We'd read other reviews and it sounded just what we were looking for, a chain pub with a good size menu and real ales. We didn't want anything fancy, just simple food and a good beer. Unfortunately it wasn't as good as we had hoped for. They only had one real ale on the day we visited, but it was a beer we've had many times before so no problem. However although it did taste ok, it was quite cloudy and didn't look too great. I wouldn't have served it, but there you go, not everybody is me. Anyway, it wasn't enough to put us off and we ordered food. As expected, it was a large, chain pub menu with lots of options. Hubby had the burger and I had three of the small selection bowls. The burger was ok, but the portion of chips it came with was the smallest portion either of us had ever seen. Nevermind, I said he could share mine. My pork meatballs were more like chopped up sausage, they tasted ok-ish but not what I expected. The onion rings, while a really good size and quantity, were sadly soggy and not remotely crisp. The chips with curry sauce looked like the sauce had been launched at them from a distance and was splattered all over the bowl. The presentation was definitely off putting. Hubby ate quite a bit of mine as he was still hungry after his burger and I didn't want to eat any more. It wasn't bad enough to bother complaining about, we were only visiting town for a few hours and likelihood is we probably wouldn't ever be in Tamworth again so no point, but if we were to visit again, we wouldn't return here. I will say the waitress was pleasant and friendly, the bar person not so much. After leaving here we popped to The Crafty Two for a beer and the food being served there looked really good. We wished we'd eaten there instead. Oh well!

Poor food quality, bad staff. I went here with my family, on 21/4/23. Everything was going well until, our food came. When we ordered our food, my cousin asked for the chicken and bacon burger. When it came, it was the cheese and bacon burger, which was different to what my cousin asked for. Naturally, my aunt, (the cousin's mother) kindly asked for a refund. When this was asked, my aunt was met with the waitress saying, she couldn't change the burger, OR give us a refund. May I add that the waitress was rather rude when saying this. Obviously, my aunt was mad and went up, and asked to speak to someone else. Then another waitress, was saying she was really sorry about this, and thanked her, for her kindness. Then eventually the rude waitress came back and gave us our money back. Another thing that was also an inconvenience, was when I got my food. It was exactly the way I wanted it, except it was rather poor in quality, and the burger I ordered was burnt. Also the mash potato was rough and, cold. I would definitely not come back again

Smothered chicken,small tuff worst I've had anywhere.

It's an OK place as pubs go, it's suffered the same as other places in the town over the years in regards to atmosphere, though that's more the town in general at fault than the bar itself

The manager Jamie is an absolute darling, completely saved my bacon on Saturday night! Deputy manager Chlo is also an absolute sweetheart, lovely to talk to.

The staff were happy to sort out plain chicken on top of my Mac and cheese. Very tasty and well presented.

The waitress with black hair who served us had one of the worst attitudes we’ve ever come across in hospitality. Funny looks, rude comments throughout the meal and then came over after we complained to start an argument. Shame as food was ok. Management need to address her behaviour immediately

What a lovely experience...myself and my friend had a wonderful lunch today, most helpful staff, very informative about menu,we both had the cod and chips, freshly cooked, beautifully presented and delicious, such good value for money, will definitely be visiting again.

Initially popped in for a quick drink a couple of weeks ago and to watch some football. Friendly bar staff and reasonably priced. Offers on spirits and good selection. Enjoyed ourselves so went again the next week. Bar staff remembered us and even our drinks option which was nice. Chose to eat this time - sharing platter - 5 bowls for under £12. Just enough for both of us and food was really tasty and well presented, not just thrown on a plate. Becoming a regular now as went again for dinner and breakfast the next morning. Well cooked and good sized portion. Lovely mug of coffee. Would be great to see wholemeal bread as an option though. Will definitely be back.

Lovely atmosphere very helpful & friendly staff, we have had late breakfast here on Saturdays always cooked well tastes great & well presented rest of menu looks good too will definitely be trying that soon. Loving the new decor too. Keep up the good work guys

Great little pub , good for sports

Terrible food. Ordered Gammon which came with no egg. The gammon was so tough it was like leather, cooked so much it was dry. Criss cross chips were cold, the plate was so small everything comes off when trying to cut yout food. Hate to say but this is the worst gammon I've ever had.

The beer wasn’t as good as friends had said it would be. The food was okay, but it just wasn’t worth the price that you pay for it. Staff were helpful and pleasant, but the bar and kitchen seem to be a bit slow. I know nowhere is perfect, but I was hoping for a little bit more…

Nice bar and good food. Only drawback was the slow service we received but it was busy to be fair.

A nice Open space, clean and tidy. Welcoming friendly conscientious staff, who pay attention to their Customer's. Which gives a nice personable touch. Food is decent also, with plenty to choose from their menu. Many deals and offers. The toilets are clean which is excellent, and access for all people too. If sports is your thing it's a great place to watch. Many different choices of beverages, cocktails and many beers. Prices are a little higher than the average though I think they have reduced them a little. £3.35 for the coors I ordered Hogarths is £2.80 for carling not a lot in it. There's an area outside for a smoke it's nicely spaced and ringed off with a seating in the warmer weather. It's kept clean of butts. Stop off if you're in town. Edit: Carling prices have dropped again to £3.25 I and a couple of friends had a late afternoon drinky, My Thanks to Chloe (boss lady) And Matthew both were fabulous yesterday very attentive and a pleasure to talk to. Dash on the Bottom Top on the Top 😉

This is just average, cheap microwave food. If you want a meal here my advice is to get here way before the closing times for meals, as they close easily 15 minutes prior to the planned time that meals end.

A nice comfortable place to share with family and friends.

Ordered 5 , light bites (small meals) they was slow delivering the food and when it was delivered it was wrong, pointed this out and they tried to rectify but again got it wrong and 1 person went without eating , shan't be going back , Might be ok if attending for drinks only.

Please don’t order food in this place. After half an hour wait it was disgusting . We’re tourist s not a good impression

I came here on November 18th together with my mum, sister and brother for an English breakfast & a coffee. Unfortunately the coffee machine was out of order so we had coca cola instead. We did not have to wait long for our food and it looked quite nice when it came to us, unfortunately the majority of it was cold, only my eggs were warm and the mushrooms were undercooked.

Very impressed. Good crowd in for the England game. Staff - a fraction of the age of supposedly experienced employees at a certain hotel a short walk away - knew when to take away a customer's glass. A pub run for the punters' convenience and not the producers' interest.

Staff were lovely atmosphere was good, food was disappointing and mainly cold, actually the carrots were quite icy. Peas were cold and the leeks just weren't nice

Nice pleasant staff food was hot and fresh and the pub is very clean Today I witnessed them cleaning the table n chair legs which you don't see.

Of the 5 meals ordered. Two came without toppings and another came with rock hard sausages, well over cooked. Very poor, not sure how this quality of food is let out of the kitchen!

If I could give 0 stars I would, such a shame as I used to love it here but not anymore. The customer service is appalling especially the girl with the blue/green hair. She was vile to me and my friends, had 0 manners and spoke to us like trash. After waiting 40 minutes to get our drinks we had a couple sips and left as we did not want to be around her. She triggered my friends adhd so bad and for that I can’t forgive her, I will come back when she leaves.
