Booked for Sunday Lunch and were very disappointed. Started off with the drinks…my wife ordered a gin and tonic, which arrived with no ice or lemon!!! When we asked about ice the lady in charge said that they had none!! The meal itself was very poor with dreadful, bland veg…the meat however, pork (there was no beef as they had run out…at 3.30pm on a Sunday), was very good. We didn’t stay for dessert!!

Fantastic friendly staff. They were great with the children. We had Sunday lunch and it was delicious. The meat was tender, buttery mash, perfect Yorkshire pudding, lovely sides and lashings of gravy. We will definitely be back when we are up visiting again. The children all had desserts and they were also delicious. All for a great price too. Thank you for a lovely family Sunday lunch.

We have lived in Worsbrough for 5 years and never visited this restaurant. We went for a spontaneous meal out and was pleasantly surprised. From the moment we walked in the staff were warm and welcoming. The menu is traditional and even fussy eaters can find something. The food was of a high quality considering the price. Most of all, the staff interacted with our children in such a kind and positive way making our night that much more enjoyable. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to call in for a drink or stay longer for an affordable meal. We intend to return soon.

On the recommendation of my sister-in-law (who had been here only a couple of weeks ago) after a visit to hospital we decided to call here for lunch. A member of staff asked us to find a table and she would come with menus for us. She did arrive very shortly after we had sat, brought the menus, took drink orders and then brought cutlery and condiments. There was 3 adults one ordered braised steak and gravy, one had chicken pie and I had steak n ale pie. The braised steak came with mash potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and plenty of delicious gravy, we thought it came with vegetables but had to order separately (peas and carrots). Both pies came with fresh home cooked chips and mushy peas and a separate jug of gravy for each person. The chips were delicious and very enjoyable indeed, my pie was a little hard on the crust but the filling was so full of steak I enjoyed every bit. We all said how good the food was but on our next visit all having the braised steak and Yorkshire pudding. Excellent service, lovely food and a really nice atmosphere. The total price for 3 meals and drinks was less than £38. Was pleased with the pub being dog friendly and was so lovely seeing at least 3 dogs in (all well behaved too). Will certainly be back and recommend to others.

Fantastic stop for lunch, on way from Leeds to London, decided to make a detour for lunch, and the pace was a great find. On arrival friendly welcoming staff, great service, and the food was excellent. Reasonable costs - so prices to suit most people. Lots of choices on the menu to suit all tastes, portions were generous, great coleslaw and the home made chips were very nice! Toilets were exceptionally clean and well cared for. High recommend this place - good job to all who are associated with this place.

We booked to take my mum in law for Mother’s Day as we went prior to lockdown and had a lovely 3 course Sunday lunch. Today was bad and wish we had gone somewhere else. The table for 3 of us was booked for 12:30. The waitress gave us our menu and asked what we wanted to drink. She kept forgetting what she was doing, someone else ended up sorting our drinks out. We didn’t get our starters for 50 minutes. The fish bites came with mayo and I would have thought that they would be better with tartare sauce, however the fish bites were nice but that’s where it ends. The mains came and we were disgusted. My mum in law and I had a mix of meat and there was quite a bit of it. My hubby just wanted beef and got 2 small slices and his dinner was like a child’s portion with a teaspoonful of cabbage and a lot less of everything compared to ours, we had to give him some of our meat. The worst was the gravy, it was so salty that we scarped it off. Almost 2 hours after arriving they still hadn’t been to take our plates or ask about desserts, although I was supposed to be given a feee cheesecake for Mother’s Day. We decided we had been there long enough and it was so rubbish I forfeited the cheesecake. When I paid they even got our table number wrong. Needless to say we won’t be going again and definitely don’t recommend it.

We visited after having a walk around Worsbrough reservoir. Very happy to see the pub was dog friendly so we could sit inside with our pooch as it was a bit on the chilly side outside. I chose the vegetarian Sunday lunch, and wow, it did not disappoint! I got a lovely nut roast, mash, roast potato, stuffing, mixed veg and gravy. I had a cup of tea, and though it sounds a small thing, it was actual, proper tea! Not one of those "one cup" teabags (I am very particular about tea!). Our dog was given a bowl of water too, which was welcomed after our walk. Really lovely food, and really friendly staff. We will be back!

Three of us met for coffee. The bar was very quiet with only two other tables occupied, which is a great shame, because I have known it to be very busy in the past. I suppose that's Covid to blame. There was an efficient one way system in operation with plenty of sanitiser dotted around the bar. Two of us decided to stay for lunch after the other person left and both meals were excellent value for money, well presented, freshly cooked and piping hot. The staff were really pleasant and helpful and nothing was too much trouble to them. We learned during our visit that the pub will close in early October, which is a great pity as it's a nice handy local place to meet.

We visited on a Wednesday night. We visited with our two greyhounds who settled straight away! (Our female greyhound normally doesn't settle anywhere!) We took this as a good sign. We ordered our meal, it came fast, tasted amazing and the staff were friendly. With us having two big dogs I always worry that people think we're in the way however I'm happy to say when we visited us and the dogs were made to feel welcome! As a young couple we don't go out loads (once every couple weeks) so when we do go out it's nice to go somewhere that does good food and takes our whole family (including those with four legs!) An unpretentious place thta did not require much of a diversion. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the range of food was wide and ideal for our needs.I had a lovely piece of chicken and ham pie and my wife had liver and onions. Both were excellent. They do small portions if you need them at a special rate - just what we needed as our daughter was cooking for us later that evening. We shared a lemon tart dessert - equaly good. The prices were very reasonable and I'm looking forward to visiting again.Needinng to strtch our legs before setting off again, we were helpfully told that there were walks nearby. Ate here couple of years back and it was lovely so decided to try again. Staff lovely but service poor. Once seated with drinks and informed someone will get our order, we were sat for 20 minutes and ended up going to the bar ourselves to place our order. Had to wait nearly 50 minutes for our food as there was a birthday party of approx 10 people in. When food arrived it was nothing special, my burger was ok it was just that. A burger on bun. Side salad was simple more iceberg lettuce than anything. Cucumber, a little red pepper and lettuce, no dressing no attempt to invigorate it. Chips were ok ( they had run out of fries ) My partner asked for a medium rare steak it was well done but rare in the middle. We just ate as changing it or telling someone would have probably taken a age.Didn't consider a sweet as we'd probably would have had a long wait. Always attempt to support local business but sorry really unimpressed so wont be back.

We were there roughly 45 mins and in that time I think 2 people came in for food. Every other table was empty. I would think they could have spared even 1 booked table for half hour max. It's a shame as we are local would like to visit more often but having to book in advance is not always ideal. Drinks however seem reasonable priced

Took the dog for a walk and called in for a drink and lunch. We were owed £10 due to being unable to have our Xmas meal. The assistant manager was ignorant and didn't apologise or show any interest at all. The bar staff and waitresses were on the ball and gave very good service. We ordered the fish platter and my wife ordered roast of the day. The roast was off the menu so she ordered chicken fajitas and they were also unavailable. Eventually she settled for prawn cocktail and fish and chips. The prawn cocktail was inedible due to the prawns being defrosted and rubbery and very little cocktail sauce. My wife sent the starter back but we received no explanation or apology. The food was at best mediocre, which was a disappointment as we have been to the pub at other times. We were told that the manager was on holiday, but the standard of her assistant was well below par. I would suggest she was in the wrong profession.

Popped in midweek for dinner. Went to the bar and the barmaid was huffing and moaning about customer she was waiting to serve. We ordered drinks and were shown to a table. Now I'm all for a relaxed and fairly casual atmosphere but it was just too casual for my liking. Not one member of staff had any kind of uniform on so it felt like we were being served by any Tom, Dick or Harry. We ordered two sirloin steaks medium rare, they came well done, we couldn't be bothered to wait for two more so didn't complain although we may have said something if there had been a check back to the table. It wasn't busy and only eight people sat down after us but we were surprised to hear that there would be an HOURS wait for burgers as the chef's griddle was full!!!!!

I needed somewhere for a staff party. We are really busy over Christmas so we have our Christmas party very early. They were more than happy to accommodate Christmas crackers and everything! We had a great night, the staff could not do enough and the food reasonably priced and very tasty. I've been before but not in such a large group and the food was just as good a huge thank you to the team there a great nightenjoyed by all!

Myself, husband and son had lovely food at the Red Lion today. Could not fault anything. Also they do an excellent gluten free menu as I have coeliac disease. On the menu the gluten free dishes had a gf at the side of meals suitable which is very good. Not many eating places do that. We will definitely be returning.

Turned away from another local pub who had stopped serving food at 19.45????We came to the Red Lion by chance and were so pleased that we did. Very attentive staff who welcomed us and showed us to a table. Our drink orders were taken quickly and we were left to browse the menu.I was very surprised at the large menu and the addition of some smaller meals (lighter bites). The prices were reasonable and we both ordered our food. The staff very kindly checked with the kitchen and a substituted new potatoes for chips with my light bite meal. Our meals were served after a short wait and were both pipping hot. Staff checked if the meal was to our liking and replenished our drinks. All in all a wonderful evening and so good to see this pub once again back in excellent hands. I must thank the manager who was such good company and obviously doing a wonderful job in this pub.Just to add the Christmas Fayre menu looks brilliant and great for the price, 3 courses for £15.00. No doubt we will be booking soon.Look forward to eating there again

A rather large pub, tucked away with beautiful surroundings, not at all what I expected in Barnsley. They claim to offer great home cooked food and fabulous service. And they deliver in spades. Good beer, a menu which is too big but delivered exactly what it promised (if you are an hearty eater oh boy you are in for a treat). My light bite was enormous but very tasty. A beer or two, a very tasty meal, a stroll around the country park, reservoir, whatever it is, a glorious day. Highly recommended, and superb service (I am so sorry I didn't catch your name), tyke hospitality, humour and generality.

Happened to come across this wonderful inn whilst discovering local villages off A61\M1 j36. As a solo diner, I have in the past been made to feel uncomfortable asking for a table, however, at the Red Lion Country Inn the staff couldnt have been more welcoming, I immedately felt like a village resident and frequent visitor. The attentive staff, made swift arrangements to offer drinks and menu. The menu offered a wonderful variety of typical options catering for the needs of decerning diners. Hmm decisions.......gourmet burger, veggie offerings, curry or traditional pub fare.... elected real pub favourite (Scampi n chunky hand cut chips partnered with choice of mushy or garden peas, typical southern opted for later). It was real crafted food, so good could have licked plate. Wholesome cherry tart n custard.... Impressive desert. Hearty bowl full to brim. Would recommend this country inn to colleagues, friends and TripAdvisor readers. Special thanks to staff....Sky, Adam and Luke but particularly to my special wasitress Sky for her care.

Came a few weeks ago which to my surprise was very quite to say it's in a lovely place across from the mill, I later found out why it was so quite , staff too busy chatting amongst themselves to attend to us and foul language being used. The lasagne I had ordered was burnt when I spoke to the manager Liam I think his name was he apologised and offered to get another one sent out , my partner had finished his by the time it was sent out which not surprisingly after waiting a further 45 minutes. Which then came out cold! When I mentioned this to the manager he just laughed. Will not be returning!!!!!

We went out for a birthday dinner to the lemon tree and we had the best experience. The food was absolutely amazing and reasonable prices for the portion sizes. The staff were lovely and sang happy birthday and the restaurant was very good hygiene. I would recommend this to friends and i had an amazing night.
