The Joseph Bramah in Barnsley

Poor experience at breakfast. Overcharged, order came wrong and drinks machines either out of order or not delivering drinks properly. We travel around using Wetherspoons regularly and have found this branch to be the worst yet.

A tad expensive but your paying for the mixology really.

Burgers have greatly improved and are very tasty.

I had a meeting with some acquaintances today, we were sat outside where a complete "Barnsley" drunk approached us, verbally abused us. Even bystanders tried to help but not the Joseph Employees... Good job, You had 6 people leave your premises for good, not nice doing business with you. "Proper Brish Experience".

Horrific toilets some of the worst I encountered during lunch time, no way would I eat here!!

Probably best spoons I've been in. Don't really like spoons but they serve a purpose when you don't know where you are and need a refreshment.

Left review in July. Things no better. Stayed downstairs this time in case still cold upstairs. Not really warm downstairs but passable. Ordered at the bar. 2 all day brunch 2 drinks. Young girl brought food out.....2 ham egg and chips! Told her I ordered 2 brunches. Took it away to the bar, came back with it and said you ordered this. No I didn't. Said again ordered 2 brunch. Took it away. Came back with receipt from bar saying ham egg and chips x2. Obviously the bar staff member hit the wrong button as I didn't order that. Said would sort it out though. Food came again as a brunch but obviously with same eggs and chips as they were both freezing 🥶. Couldn't be ar...d complaining again. One of the worst meals I have ever had in wetherspoons. Young girl came after and said were meals OK? Said no it was freezing! No comment no sorry. Didn't go and tell anybody Also very slow at clearing tables. Not once did i see a table cleaned. Last time we will visit there. Best advice close this one and reopen The Silkstone. Was FAR better there

Don't leave your drink unattended while you go to toilet..it was picked up bay staff and emptied. I did ask but they weren't bothered. Was 2 full drinks. Really wasn't happy

Honestly a pretty great Spoons. Love the atmosphere and don't mind the other customers as they often just keep themselves to themselves and staff are always on-hand to sort any issues out quickly.

I like this place it's a pub and has good honest priced food on Their menu. And it's cooked well . So I like it . And it's local 👌

A typical Wetherspoons pub in the centre of Barnsley. What you see is what you get. Good prices plus a really nice beer garden.

Food always came out very quick and was cooked well. Great selection of drinks, Friendly service.

Food is what you expect from Witherspoons. Value for what you pay. A waiter dropped two slices of toast outside the kitchen and despite numerous people coming in and out of the kitchen nobody could be arsed to pick it up. After 20 minutes I picked it up as fed up of staff walking over it! Not the best advertisement for Witherspoons.

A nice spoons . Lovely cheap breakfast with fast friendly service . I came over from Huddersfield and called in for a couple of pints and some breakfast . Wasn't disappointed at all 👍

Tried the limited edition sticky Korean fried chicken bowl...was lovely would recommend and will be having again...

Been a regular at this place for years, however tried the advertised special large cardboard display on the bar as a spicy chicken concoction. Table 124 uper level as dated of today This is a combo of left overs on main menu of chips chicken pieces , chicken strips chilli's in a spicy sauce chucked in together .came out Luke warm , sent it back came out again totally inedible. Complained to bar staff who.passed me and my friend to Josh team leader Expressed concerns he was jot willing to hear our complaint so much so my friend was banned from buying a drink from the bar upstairs .Went downstairs spoke to a member if staff who has known us as customers for tears by this time I wa in tears due to the treatment I had received prior to this .After further discussion my friend and I were asked to.leave my friends drink was taken fro m her .we had 3 glasses of wine not drunk and we both will be 70 it's old this month Disgusting customer service and treatment of elderly female customers .

Sorry to say this but the place was horrible. The seats were dirty, the tables sticky and I spear you details about the state of the toilets! Shame!

Went twice in the same day no issues but came back later on for a third time and when the bouncers rotated, got denied entry because I was wearing shorts (late 20s and to be fair I look more like a nerd with glasses more than a troublemaking chav)... bear in mind 25C summer heat, I was not going to go home and come back with jeans... food and drinks are spot on just a shame the bouncers don't have any common sense with dress code when the weather is warm. I could have snuck in through the back entrance but decided to move on. So if you're wearing shorts in the summer, be aware you might not get in. 5/5 food 1/5 bouncers so overall 3/5

Pleasantly surprised with lovely outdoor beer garden area, as all Wetherspoons pubs, prices perfect.

Great food, good variety of drinks, pleasant courteous staff, really enjoyed the Korean sticky chicken bowl highly recommend 👌

We visited in July as usual while shopping. Yes it's July but wasn't red hot outside so certainly didn't need air con on FULL BLAST! Absolutely freezing. Mentioned it to a girl and a chap but neither did anything about it. Moved tables twice but made no difference. Never been so cold in a pub. Ordered food that came quickly but was cold within 5 minutes due to the air con. Food was good. Nice to see they have the cheaper menu on. Good value. Think members of staff ought to have a set uniform. A girl had a skirt on that looked like a big belt it was so short. I agree with a previous review about closing the Silkstone. That pub was far better than this one.

Had drink in the outdoor patio. Very comfortable area with quite lush planting.

Our usual Wetherspoon's has closed down so we paid a rare visit to Joseph Bramah's. The place was fairly empty so no problem finding a table. We ordered the boneless basket (3 chicken strips and 5 battered breast chunks) and our drinks through the app. We waited 20 minutes for our meals which arrived minus the 5 chunks. The server was confused about why they were missing but walked away and didn't do anything about it until he came past us again with another order and we pointed it out, so he took them back to get sorted. We then had to tell him we'd not even got our drinks which he told us he was going to sort those out. This meant another long wait because we were upstairs and that bar didn't have ice or one of the drinks that we order. When we finally got our meals the only thing that was hot were the chicken chunks that hadn't been put on in the first place. Very disappointing service. They closed the wrong one when they closed the Silkstone.

Ordered the fish and chips, my food delivered very quicky and was piping hot, probably the best Wetherspoons fish and chips I've ever had, the fish was huge! Served at the bar really quickly, the staff were really friendly, promoting an excellent atmosphere. Definitely going back soon!

I've been to lots of Wetherspoon restaurants but have to say this one is the best so far. Food was lovely and came out quickly. I couldn't fault anything! It had such friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere, will definitely be going again and recommending to everyone x

Always decent food, good priced pints. Just your typical wetherspoons. The staff are normally on the ball keeping tables clear etc. Toilets are normally always clean. Can't complain for a busy town pub & grub.

Decent food for the price and most of the staff are lovely, couldn't give 5⭐ as the lift is always broken and they let non disabled people into the disabled toilet causing genuine disabled people issues

Two of us had the small fish and chips. Very good and the batter on the fish was perfect. Other meal was lasagne. That too was good. Staff polite.

ordered chips and when i had already started eating them the waitress came over and said that they weren’t mine and took them to another table. found hairs in the food. tried to give other people our food and gave us extra drinks we didn’t order. all round just not a good experience, especially to say it wasn’t even busy so there’s just no excuse really

Great place when it first opened, needs to buck it's ideas up during the day, food mediocre stop trying to serve fast food instead of good hot food.

Dark and dismal. It's just had a makeover . Dreadful choice of colour. Come on Tim , get your team together!

Food was cold. Changed it for another which was lukewarm. Seems to be better in the afternoons but breakfasts are poor

Went to Barnsley specifically to see Joseph Bramah, the English inventor and locksmith. He is best known for having improved the flush toilet and inventing the hydraulic press. Any improvement to the flush toilet is always welcomed enthusiastically and the inventor heralded as a Saint. Imagine our disappointment when we arrived only to discover The Joseph Bramah is in fact a Wetherspoons pub and not the toilet legend we’d read so much about. He'd died in 1814, apparently. Nobody had told us. Bramah, the bloke, not the pub, worked installing toilets and improved the design of said loos. Anyway, The Joseph Bramah is named the chap who greatly improved the toilet flush. Ironic really, considering not one man in the pub appeared to know how to flush a toilet, or indeed hit a urinal with the bodily fluid with which he was aiming. Our lunch was acceptable Wetherspoons fodder. A curry and a chicken wrap lunch. Suitably warm and about worth the price. The staff attempted to smile and largely failed. Joseph would be very proud indeed.

First time I have been to this pub and it was fantastic, food came out fast and looked great, service at the bar was spot on. The pub manager from Sunderland i believe his name was Ben was so helpful for me, such a credit to wetherspoons. Keep up the great work

Good place but can get very busy

Lovely place to eat, decently priced and nice friendly atmosphere. Ordered the steak rare and it was cooked to perfection (if you have a steak well done get a burger anything above medium is waste of cow and the chefs time in my opinion) the tall waiter who brought our food was brilliant think he was called Damo even when he tripped over his own feet he made a joke of it, nice to see staff can still have a laugh. Will definitely be returning.

I do not recommend. They lie. I went out for a meal with friends. I went to the toilet and when I came back a young female member of staff had taken my drink. I still had half a pint left. I went up to her and she said she had only taken coffee cups. The glass was in the bowl she had. I asked to see the manager and he reckoned to check cctv and came back to say she had only taken coffee cups. So they lied and would not let me see cctv. What happened to customer service and the customer being right. I have been going there every week but will never go again. Luckily not all wetherspoons are that bad.

I was out for food and a drink with friends. I went to to toilet and when I came back the female member of staff had my glass in her plastic box but she denied it saying she only took coffee cups from the table. I asked to see the manager and he said he would check cctv. They both lied because my glass which had half a pint in was taken from the table and they wouldn't let me she cctv. I had been going there every week but will never go again. Such liers. What happened to customer service. I recommend training. Table 123 3/4/2024. Time drink taken 14.10 to 14.30. Check the cctv properly and apologise.

Busy afternoon pub but not packed Meal was delicious however ordered steak with diane sauce and received peppercorn when I questioned the server, they dont make diane sauce here

Cold food replaced by rock hard food it's a no salad was nice

Had breakfast, all was lukewarm, tomatoes, beans, sausages and eggs not very good. Overall give it a miss next time. On the upside beer is fine.

Quite a large place, there is an upstairs and downstairs seating area also an enclosed outdoor area. Always busy as a normal Wetherspoons but never enough staff, need to queue at the bar for a while. Women's paradise as there are lots of toilets, no need to queue here when really needing to go. Food, just normal standard, but enjoyable and edable. Early evening theres no entertainment, just a good place for chatting and eating.

Ordered steak well done, its came OZZZZING blood 3 TIMES we sent our meal back, by this point we were over it and put right off

Nice enough place, very busy when we arrived, tables were cleared but not were not wiped/anti bacterialised. No real atmosphere. Got beans but said mo beans please. The biggest Wetherspoons I've been yet. Had all day brunch, jacket spud instead of chips.

Pleasant family friendly pub with a bright atmosphere & fresh interior. Friendly staff, great value for money across a wide variety of food & drinks deals to choose from.

Good food and beer, grump staff

A few years ago this pub would have got 5 stars, I just found that food standards are not as high or as good value Also now the Silkstone has closed you would expect the Bramah to have compensated better. Will still use but not sure about the food.

Very nice service, affordable prices for everyone and nice decor of the place.

This was a fantastic pub for drinking, with a throwback design incorporating metal! The counter is well-presented, Blue Lagoon was an enjoyable pitcher and the seating is comfortable with space too.

Even though it was mentally busy, the service was excellent!! The bar staff upstairs were excellent, special thanks to Cat for looking after us

Staff was terrible, no eye contact, no please or thank you. Too busy chatting on there internal mikes. I was stood waiting to be served for ages while 2 off then served one guy. We asked one female staff member to close the door to the beer garden that she had walked through, rolled her eyes and just said “ it sticks” after going back and closing it she stormed off tutting n muttering under her breath. I wouldt mind if the person place was busy but it was dead. Who trains these staff- shocking.

Didn't have coleslaw which I wasn't told til food came then wouldn't give something else in place never asked if needed anything else never checked if everything was OK very bad service oh ordered starter which came with meal I wasn't happy but she didn't even care or apologize

Ordered food on our first visit to Barnsley - to be told extractors are broke limited menu. Ok that’s fine - ordered 2 burgers and a chilli - every single thing microwaved - I wouldn’t feed to a dog ! £28 for utter crap Never again!!! Service diabolical

I liked to eat here. Usually, no one could beat their prices, keeping good quality. Unfortunately, it's not the first time I got disappointed. Stone cold food, dirty cutlery, long waiting time. It's time to find somewhere else..

Brilliant atmosphere, at least 17 cubicles in the women’s toilets, one could say you’re spoilt for choice!

Great place to meet up with friends for a bite to eat and drink, we usually get the 3 for £15 meals and 2 for £5.75 drinks, order on the app as it seems to be quicker too, 1 less star as the pizza base seemed a little doughy and the chicken strips were on warm
