Lemon Tree in Barnsley

Fantastic food and a wonderful service, highly recommend the chicken shish kebab. Hands down the best restaurant in Barnsley town centre.

Incredible taste bud sensation at the Lemon Tree, a Turkish restaurant in Barnsley. Julie and I had a date night called "Safari Meal," where we had a starter, main, and dessert at different restaurants. Talking only about the Lemon Tree, where we began with the starter and our first visit there. Between us, we had "Garlic Mushrooms" in creamy garlic sauce with warm bread and "Sucuk," a Turkish beef sausage kebab with cucumber yogurt dip. One could argue that nothing can go wrong making garlic mushrooms, but as someone who enjoys cooking, I'd disagree. This starter was heavenly perfection, complemented by warm bread. I made the mistake of not asking what type of bread it was because it was so scrumptious, dipping it in the sauce. I was a little concerned that the Turkish Sucuk sausage might be too firm, but my suspicions were unfounded; the meat was tender, with just the right balance of spices. The chap who served us was warm and welcoming and found our date night idea quirky, saying, "Before you go to the next one, have a little walk around." It's given us the idea that, rather than having a traditional Sunday lunch this weekend, we will be having it at the Lemon Tree.

Wow where to start... CHRISTMAS DAY!!! very very poor. Turkey was compressed turkey roll all the veg was rock hard and frozen and aunty Bessie's puddings. We were so upset the quality of food was shocking considering we paid £65.00 a head. Would not recommend to anyone as the quality was bad. I felt sorry for the poor waitresses as you could here they owner giving them a hard time shouting at them.

I took my father here on Christmas Day, and I’m glad I did. The food and service were faultless. Every course was very enjoyable, and generous portions left us stuffed. The dinner had a relaxed pace with staff making us feel well-looked-after without being rushed or hassled. The only thing I would change is to also have some Turkish dishes on the Christmas Day menu. I’d have loved some Christmas humus! Then it would have been more unique than the standard traditional Christmas menu offered by every place. Thanks for a lovely Christmas dinner!

I would strongly advise against dining at this restaurant. We originally booked for 10 people, but informed them a week in advance that 2 people wouldn’t be attending, so we only sent a pre-order for 8. When we arrived, they had only set a table for 6, despite knowing in advance that 8 people were coming. After some waiting, they finally found an extra table to add to the end. The meal was extremely disappointing, and to top it off, when the bill arrived, it stated we paid £80 for a deposit—when we had actually paid £100. The waitress was rude and claimed it was because two of us had not shown (even though they never pre-booked and Lemon Tree never set up for them) and they had to turn people away, but this was completely false. They never set up for 10 people, and we would have taken up 8 seats regardless of our booking. It’s beyond frustrating to be charged extra for no reason, especially when we spent a significant amount of money. It’s absurd to have a policy that doesn’t return deposits when you actually show up and spend. The service was awful, the food was terrible, and the overall atmosphere was unpleasant. The decor was tacky, the toilets were dirty, and the staff were unfriendly and miserable. I won’t be coming back and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere else in town!

We went out for a birthday dinner to the lemon tree and we had the best experience. The food was absolutely amazing and reasonable prices for the portion sizes. The staff were lovely and sang happy birthday and the restaurant was very good hygiene. I would recommend this to friends and i had an amazing night.

A Sat night evening out in Barnsley started here before a show at the Civic. We had previously tried a Turkish restaurant in Wickersley and were certainly not impressed, BUT I convinced the wife to try again. Well it was Superb, everything from the starters to the mains were without fault and so very tasty. We shall be sure to visit again when we next visit Barnsley.

Having recently embarked on a culinary expedition to this establishment, I feel compelled to share my observations. The atmosphere was most agreeable, and the service rendered by the staff was exemplary, leaving no room for complaint. I must confess, the roasted meats were cooked to perfection, exhibiting a succulence and flavour that was most satisfying. However, the accompanying victuals proved to be somewhat bland, lacking the zest and piquancy one might expect. Furthermore, the salad accompanying the meal was a rather pedestrian affair, bearing the unmistakable hallmarks of a pre-packaged assortment procured from the local emporium. This lamentable lack of freshness detracted somewhat from the overall dining experience. In sum, while the ambience, service, and indeed the roasted meats were commendable, certain elements of the cuisine fell short of expectations.

Went for lunch food was really delicious and good size portions. Excellent value for money, I would highly recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Dinner with family in the Turkish (very similar to Greek BTW) restaurant in centre of Barnsley in a converted former pub. Nice bright decor and good amount of space between tables. Good range of choices on menu, I had the lamb shank which was delicious; but sister had Vegetarian Moussaka which was rather runny. Was Saturday night and quite busy, we'd booked though.

Really great restaurant, I loved the décor and vibe, service was brilliant. But the highlight is absolutely the food, really magnificent Turkish cuisine made with high quality ingredients.

Our first visit to this restaurant, and it won't be our last. We went after a recommendation from a friend, and were not disappointed. The service was professional and friendly, food absolutely delicious and reasonably priced, and they have a great selection of drinks, especially gin. I ate the salmon kebab with roast veg and rice, and my husband had moussaka with rice and bread. Both were incredibly well cooked and tasty.

We were there early 5pm, so not many eating, it did get busy towards 6pm and after. Service was attentive but not over the top, staff helpful and friendly. Food was excellent, we had 2 course deal, there was enough choice and it was really tasty and plentiful. Will definitely return.

The food was ok,nothing special. Wasn't very busy, but maybe that was due to the time we went.

Went for lunch on Saturday (during the Barnsley Live event). Had the House Special - essentially a mixed platter for two - which was lovely, also quite spectacular to see so much food arrive at the table!! Tons of meat, rice, flatbread, tzatziki and salad. Lots of my favourite things!!

We visited The Lemon Tree as a party of 25 for a memorial meal for my mum. What could have been a very sombre occasion turned out to be a very good meal. The staff were there to help with anything, responded to emails within the hour. We pre ordered a week before and everything was ready for us as soon as we arrived. All staff very pleasant and helped to ensure a sad occasion was actually a happy meal. Would highly recommended visiting

First time and was surprised, really good service and the food was so tasty, sounds a simple thing to say! However definitely will go again.

Starter was very disappointing. The vine leaves were hard and cold like they weren't defrosted enough. When I sent them back I was told they were made fresh every day ???. The main course(moussaka)was very nice and piping hot.

We have been here about Half a dozen times now and food is spot on every time.

Great little place in heart of Barnsley. Mezze platter was excellent, fresh, varied. The kebab dishes looked a little light on meat content (chicken, lamb pieces) for the price - but we felt full at end anyway. Worth a second visit. Staff friendly and attentive.

Lovely food, quick service too. We hadn't booked and it was clearly a busy Wednesday evening but they found us a table. Would have been 5* had, at the end of our meal, the waiter asked if we wanted dessert or another drink or coffee or the Bill. We sat for a while to see if they would return to the table but no one came, we decided to go to the bar to ask for the bill. The other niggle is the lack of an itemized bill, I was just told how much it was but I was surprised when it seemed a little higher than I had calculated. I don't mind paying for good food and it is good there's no doubting that. When I got home I checked the menu online and I was over charged by £6. No proof as no bill. I know I should have questioned it at the time of paying so it's on me, perhaps there's a service charge I wasn't aware of but if it's a regular practice then the management should be made aware.

After a little mix up with the tables we were seated and meals arriving swiftly (After pre ordering meals) The food was amazing and staff were friendly and efficient. First time ever being out in Barnsley and booked this restaurant because it was close to the Civic Hall, where 12 of us had booked tickets for a show there. Our group came from far and wide, Manchester, Hull, Germany, and Leeds, so we decided to all meet up beforehand and chose this restaurant without previous experience of it. To say the least, we were all pleasantly surprised! We had a warm greeting from the owner on arrival and the building itself is lovely inside, I expect it was once a bank or some other important building but nicely decorated and in good condition. We were shown to our table, which was in a good location, plenty of space to move around. Not an easy thing to achieve for a table of 12. The staff were all pleasant, attentive and professional and everyone in our group were really well looked after. The menu was as interesting as it was varied and while our group had a very wide range of ages and tastes, everyone found something they found appetising and everyone thoroughly enjoyed what they chose to order. Even my father, who is in his 80's and not the most adventurous of eaters, came to me after and said that his food was gorgeous and the coffee at the end of the meal was perhaps the best one he had ever had! Quite an accolade in itself coming from my dad! But everyone had a thoroughly great time at the Lemon Tree and if we ever get chance to eat there again, we most definitely will do so. Huge thanks to all the staff who made our evening really special. X

Came here for my birthday and it was the best choice I’ve ever made. The food and staff were equally lovely; my family adored the quality and portion sizes. They made my birthday feel so special by playing music for me and bringing my cake out. Overall one of the best places I’ve been for my birthday yet. I truly recommend this place for anyone wanting to celebrate their special day or if they just want some amazing quality food.

Overrall the meal was good, good portion sizes, I had a lamb shish kebab, the lamb wasn't the best I've had as it was a little chewy and wasn't so flavourful but I would still likely return and try something else on the menu. Service and atmosphere was lovely.

We have eaten here several times and have had great food and customer experience every time. Mixed kebabs and moussaka have been really good and always nicely proportioned meals. Deffo a good restaurant for Turkish food in Barnsley.

Nice little Turkish with a great atmosphere. Not trying to be too over the top, but still remains pleasant to the eye. The meat quality is superb, Sucuk was nice and beefy. The Chicken and Lamb Shish was well seasoned and tender with not even a bite of toughness. Plated well to allow the chips to soak up the juices of the kebab. Great for a nice meal that doesn't cost too much.

Absolutely outstanding. It's not often that I leave a restaurant and really feel like I've had beautiful food and an amazing service. The staff members go above and beyond. You are rarely with an empty plate infront of you, the service is impeccable. We had fresh, beautifully seasoned food that exceeded my expectations for a little restaurant in Barnsley. In town and popped in for some lunch. The lunch menu looked good value. I had 2 course, hone made soup and then a steak with veg and home made chips. It was excellent. Highly recommended.

A party of over 20 of us all enjoyed a Saturday afternoon meal at the Lemon Tree,all meals came out together, so as on previous occasions no complaints, just a good time had by all.

This is a little diamond of a restaurant. Been 2s and got chearful,polite, helpful service. The food was plentiful and delicious. And affordable. In today's economic disaster you get the cheep chips microwave eatery's. Or anything above costing a fortune. This is good tasty home cooked food at a affordable price . A definite recommend !

Had a lovely meal with friends from work celebrating my 70th birthday. For me and my wife it was our first time in the Lemon Tree we did enjoy it and maybe next time we are in town we will have lunch and a few drinks in there.
