A bit noisy but pleasant breakfast

The first time I went to the Red lion and waited 20 minutes and then I got told that they have no gas so I couldn't have a pint only a bottle. Alan come back and run the pub

Lovely as always, food came quick too

I'm not going to complain about the staff because they are always pleasant enough. The place is just filthy. Carpets, chairs, toilets. It needs a refresh. Plus, they never have the pitcher I want. Go in for one drink because they're cheap and leave.

Had 2 breakfast. Each was cold. Server quite rude. Usually the people who work there are nice though

This is the place to be for a great atmosphere, good food and drink for a good price. However I wish the staff would concentrate more on maintaining the coffee machines. Disappointed by being left with machines down because the milk and chocolate has run out.

Kick out time for under 18s (bearing in mind the person with us was 3 months off 18 and not a kid)- is 7pm not sure why this is for health and safety reasons and the online policy for this company is 9pm, the angry aggressive condescending man who implements this needs a lesson in costumer service plus the power trip he was on seriously it’s a Wetherspoons….get some prospective!! Let’s see this “ health and safety policy for under 18s in Ripley”!! Thank for ruining a good evening!! I would go to any-other pub in Ripley but here!!! I hope Tim Martin pays this place a visit to see how bad the staff really are……! Oh one last thing what is a glass washer for?- you sure don’t clean glasses in it!

The food is exactly what you'd expect from a Wetherspoons - very average, but it's cheap, edible & cooked properly (or at least ours was), so it fills a hole, as they say. During our visit, my friend ordered everything via the app, which didn't seem very user-friendly and only notified her that our first choices of food was unavailable as she tried to place the order, so we had to start again and choose other options, meaning it took much longer than it should have done. The service we received during our visit was poor and quite frankly, odd! Firstly, the food arrived before our drinks which was bizarre and my friend also ordered a side portion of cheese for me, as I felt particularly hungry and wanted to sprinkle it over my chips. When we noticed the extra cheese missing as our meals were served to us, my friend mentioned this to the server, who advised that his colleague in the kitchen didn't know whether I wanted the portion of cheese grated in a bowl, or just adding as an extra slice of cheese on my BBQ chicken, which already comes with 1 x slice...Obviously, the former was what I wanted, but since the member of staff in the kitchen made an incorrect assumption, instead of asking one of the serving staff to check with me like she should've done, I received the latter. It didn't seem worth making a fuss about a bit of cheese, so I let it go, especially because I highly doubt it would have gotten me anywhere anyway. Lastly, just to top off the bad service, I ordered two drinks - a soft drink and cup of tea. The hot drinks at this branch of Wetherspoons are refillable, so you're usually just given a mug and the rest is self-service, yet the same server who delivered our meals returned with the drinks, including my mug of tea, which already had a teabag in it and was filled with hot water, so when I asked him about the milk, he told to go and get it from the hot drinks station by the bar and said he hadn't brought me any, because he didn't know if I wanted it. Again, he should've asked if I needed milk and / or sugar, especially since he elected to put the teabag in the mug and fill it up with hot water for me in the first place. I understand that this is Spoons and you don't expect five star service. Plus, for all I know, it could have been this poor lad's first day, but the lack of customer service / communication skills both amongst staff + between them and customers is embarrassing. This always boils down to bad management, so please train your staff properly!

Food was nice, however I didn't realise that the pizza was thin crust. Would go again but would order something a bit more filling next time

Food bit poor...but the Service from the staff are good..And Alan who served us was very friendly and funny and attentive, he is a asset to the company.

Terrible meal, had sirloin steak, which was very grisly. My friend ordered the Barrito which she sent back as it wasnt prepared as menu. Second one was just about ok.

Could do with a good clean. Staff seem disinterested. Slow service. Food not as good as other Wetherspoon's pubs I have visited recently. Update, service has got worse and the place has got dirtier.

My daughter went there for lunch, and ordered a separate meal to go with the sauces they said yes no problem extra £1 for sauce and once she was done eating come to place the order they refusing to give the sauce, because the tiny pots that get delivered weren't delivered, dont say you can, when you can't.

I know it’s a Wetherspoons with all the usual stuff like a good selection of sensibly priced beer, but had much better than usual food here.

The Red Lion in Ripley has a small car park (max stay 2 hours) and indoor and outdoor seating. It is right next to Ripley Market Place and is just across the road from the town's main bus stops. We had a Spicy Meat Feast Pizza and a Vegetarian All Day Brunch and both were hot and delicious. The toilets are upstairs and there is an accessible one on the ground floor as well.

A nice place to eat & drink,the table & chairs are close together, me & my mum go weekly for lunch & a drink

Went to the Red Lion this morning for a family breakfast to celebrate our daughter's birthday . Because there were 8 of us plus a baby when we arrived we moved a couple of tables together and grabbed a high chair ,only after we had all been sat for a while deciding what to have we were told in a very rude manner that we all had to move as we were blocking the fire exit . As we were nowhere near it we pointed out the fact that there was still plenty of room around the exit to be told he "deemed it to be blocked" so we had to move . We then asked him where else we could all fit together and not be in the way we just got no response the only other thing we heard was "Ive told you once " .Considering we had two children with us this was no way to speak to us we didn't deserve it . My husband asked if he was the manager to which he replied "one of "and told him he needed to learn to speak to customers better and was so disgusted he swore at him to be told that he is not welcome in that establishment again . If he had spoken to us in a civil manner all of that could have been avoided . We went elsewhere and received much better and friendlier service .

Had an absolutely lovely meal with my partner, the service was fantastic, the duty manager there on Sunday was absolutely lovely. Thank you! 10/10 cannot recommend enough, the food was so so nice & such good value for money too.

The Red lion is a stop off for breakfast for myself and the family often. If you get there early and get the pick of the tables then you are not going to be disappointed. The traditional breakfast in Wetherspoons is the usual game of Russian roulette as to which parts of the meal will be hot and which will be cool. The bookies favourite for chilly is ALWAYS the beans. However the breakfast in Ripley has rarely been a cause for concern, hence the frequent visits. Ripley itself is a nice little town worth popping your head into and so start your day off with a bite to eat at The Red lion.

A lot of people moan about Spoons, but for the price, it's value for money . Beer in this particular Spoons is usually pretty good.

Drunks at 0930 in the morning. Should expect it at a Wetherspoons but does ruin your breakfast when they are shouting and fing and blinding.

Lovely place but limited parking. Food was very good, just could've been warmer. Cheaper breakfast and hot drinks than any other Weatherspoon's I've visited. It was clean, as were the toilets, which is a nice change from most places these days The staff were very friendly, lovely and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place 👍🏼

Had no cheese or ham, no hot chocolate, then asked for lemon and lime drink, had no lime so decided to have malibu and coke, and guess what no malibu.....absolutely ridiculous

The food I ordered was absolutely stone cold. The cook or chef. Which I take is a cook. A chef would not let food go out like that. I will not eat in this establishment again I bought it was filth. I Don’t know what food rating it as. But I hope it’s a two. Or maybe a one If not as a rating at all

Does not even deserve that.. Ordered a jacket potato with Tuna mayo.. wasnt even tuna mayo.. no mayo. The tuna had just been thrown on top as if it had just come out the tin the the potato looked like it had come out of the waste bin was bought to the table I put my fork into it put some into my mouth it was stone cold.. my partner (who is a chef/ cook.. took it back the staff denied and would not accept responsibility and no appology.. how a food establishment can get away serving food like that is wrong..

No mixed grill at wetherspoons what a joke

Popped here for a late morning brunch, that particular morning there were just two members of staff working downstairs.one of the staff explained they were several managers and staff down that week. However this member of staff was really friendly and was dashing about to do the work of several people . Despite being under pressure his demeanour was still bright and he worked very quickly and effectively. I think this man needs a pay rise, he is an asset to your team. The food is what you would expect for the money you pay , it was pretty good . The atmosphere was pleasant, and the staff were doing there best to keep on top of the maintenance /day to day work.

I am new to this area and I didn’t know that this fantastic place existed, as I’m disabled and I can just about walk with crutches, as soon as I was seated and my colleague got me a cup of tea he then had to leave for a few hours. Within an hour a member of staff came to me and and asked me if would like another cup of tea, a while later a different member of staff came to make sure I was ok. The staff are absolutely amazing, nothing seems to be any trouble whatsoever. I’m sure a lot of other Witherspoons staff could learn the fantastic customer service that I have experienced here.

Not salubrious, but ok , great prices for breakfast . Refillable,tea ,coffee, hot choc, We had traditional breakfast , which was sausage ,bacon, egg,hash browns , beans ,toast. £3.50 There are a selection of reasonable priced breakfast muffins You could have a large breakfast for £6.25 for double the traditional with mushrooms too. So for Traditional breakfast for 2 plus drinks £8.50 bargain .

We met some friends here for a pre-christmas catch up. We know what to expect from a Spoons by now and this was no different. Cheap and cheerful food, super quick service, nothing amazing. There is limited parking at the back of the pub where you can park free for 2 hours. Plenty of other parking available in the area too. We ordered off the Christmas menu. Very basic turkey meal. First Xmas meal without a sprout in sight. My other half had the burger. He said it was ok, but could have done with more chips. The plates are too big for the amount of food they put on them! Nice enough pub if you're out and about on the Spoons trail and want a simple bite to eat.

Enjoyed food earlier...let down by non arrival of children's ice cream Waited over 30 mins but had to leave as car park time was running out...children weren't happy 🤨

Needs updating and a good clean.

Great night out and the best Xmas Dinner out I have had. Definitely going back there again.

It's a Witherspoon's, good cheap food and beer. This was one of the better ones.

The wife's chips were lukewarm and my curry wasn't pipping hot. We have noticed lately that a lot of your pubs don't serve their food hot and we have sent a few meals back.

We visit nearly every Sunday,, was served by a very rude team leader this week obviously doesn't listen to what people order properly, she was also rude to my mate when he went up to the bar ,, crash course in customer care obviously needed ,,,,,,,

Very nice food. The deputy manager I think is (Alan) very warm and friendly thd bar attendants smile when serving you. Derby snd Nottinghsm need to be more customer friendly and put a smile on their faces. This pub is by far the best pub in Ripley.

It's a Wetherspoons, so nothing extraordinary. However, they do have a fairly diverse & interesting range of real ales.

This was probably the worst service and help I have ever seen or offered in a pub. A member of the party took ill and not one member of staff pottered to help even after being asked. No one phoned for the ambulance, we had too, the only time a member of staff came across was when the shift manager wanted to complete paperwork whilst we were on the phone to 999! He even had the audacity to ask the ambulance to wait whilst he checked a stock order into the cellar so he could then get a reference number!!! No offer of sorting refunds for food and drinks we weren't able to eat due to the party member collapsing. Won't be going back here ever.

Only visit now and again too meet up with some friends friendly service good atmosphere and its open till 1145pm 4 a late drink cheers 4 now 👍 Brian

Mid morning. Saturday. September 2023 After enjoying the food which was a standard weatherspoons. Does what it says on the tin, It was OK nothing to complain about. Went to the toilets before leaving, headed towards the cubicles Behind door No.1: looked like baked on vomit on the seat from at least the night before. Behind door No.2: looked like blood snot, again baked on. It wasn't going well. Behind door No.3: well that was engaged so by options weren't the best. (HOVER) I'll consider other options before coming here... hate to think what the kitchens like

Yup it's a wetherspoons and you know what you can expect, therefore no surprises on the food front. Waiting time for food depends upon how busy it is and staff availability. We had no issues with either the wait time, nor how hot it was. However, I did find some unsatisfactory features:- 1. Gents toilets: 3 cubicles, one had a broken floor and no door lock, one was rather blocked up, the other functioned. These toilets are not up to the normal wetherspoons standard. Apart from above, generally cosmetically poor. 2. Staff: notified them that the hot chocolate had run out; the reply was " we don't do HC anymore". Two very serious issues: the advertising says it's available all day everyday, and we had one 15 mins earlier! Not only should staff not lie to customers, but no point in telling fibs when you can be found out.,! When pointing out the obvious, they refilled the machine and shortly afterwards, the staff were enjoying a HC! We were in the area for about 1week and frequented the red lion several times; but alas the hot chocolate machine was rarely turned on after our first visit. There are two such machines and the other one did not have HC as a choice. This beggars the question, why not? Other wetherspoons establishments have HC on all machines. On our last visit there were tables that had sticky residue on them as they had not been cleaned after the previous diners had left. On our other visits, the tables were being cleaned. There's always a bad day at sometime. So; food up to scratch, staff in need of improvement ( obviously not all), building maintenance not functioning. Food 5*, staff and buildings 2*

Tidy, pleasant and well maintained Wetherspoons. It’s a Wetherspoons, so you know what you are getting - visited on a Saturday and was busy, but staff welcoming and service was good - ordered food and had couple of rounds of beers in a nice environment

It's a Spoons. Food was OK, service was great, atmosphere non-existent. It's a convenient stop-over or meeting place, but not somewhere you'd go for fun, same as any other Spoons. It *does* have one of the most impressive Ladies' toilets I've ever seen, though it does look a but like a swimming pool.

Terrible service, ordered over the app and drinks sat waiting for over 20 minutes had to collect my own ice melted pretty shocking tbh

Good service,great array of food & beers & very sophisticated staff.Ideally situated just off the market place.Bus connections literally across the road to various destinations.Plenty of parking to rear of building or nearby.

How can you not like spoons everything is fine and cheep

Visited for lunch with the family. Most of our meals were fine, arrived quickly and tasted good. One burger bun and salad was a bit under par but still OK. All fed, job done, just what is expected from a Spoons.

Great breakfasts, very reasonably priced, food very tasty. Friendly and helpful staff, clean and tidy.

Beer was nice, food cooked to perfection. Lovely staff and great atmosphere.

The pub was clean and tidy with lots of space. Normall Weatherspoons menu which has plenty of choice including lots of vegetarian options. The food arrived quickly and was well cooked and presented. Staff were really friendly and there is a small carpark at the back.

During the week the breakfasts are great. Returned at the weekend and the food was very different cold rubbery toast hard eggs one teaspoon of beans very unsatisfactory

Love these pubs always consistent.

Very poor bar service. When served my pint was given to me only two thirds full. When I suggested to the person who served me that it needed to settle, he cleared off from behind the bar! Only one person behind the bar most of the time! Attitude problems are rife in this place, customers treated like s--t!

I've edited this because it's gets worse in here, it takes them 10mins to serve u even if u the only 1 at the bar worst pub in ripley for getting served

Great food at reasonable prices, staff very efficient.

Friendly staff. Didn't stay long only for a coffee but very pleasant.
