Good selection of ales. Great food , fantastic selection of hand made pies . Everything cooked from scratch. My compliments to the chef. Made to feel welcome by staff. Wish I lived closer, would be there every week

Six of us and our little dog visited today. Friendly attentive staff. Nice restaurant area. We all had Sunday roast. Generous portions, well presented, excellently cooked. Tasted delicious. Two still found room for pudding. Excellent value. If you are looking for home cooking a warm welcome and decent ale, this could be for you. Highly recommended.

This place has changed a lot, when I last come here years ago it was very expensive for food and you didn't get much it was like the pub was acting like a 5 star restaurant. Now it's reasonable price and portions the beer is good and the staff are friendly really nice place to go If your looking for somewhere new to go try this place will surprise you !

We've had a delicious Sunday Roast and my 6 months old baby girl enjoyed Swede & Carrot Mash❤️ puddings were amazing too! Chocolate fudge cake and toffee sponge! Pub owner even had a special plastic spoon for infants and didn't charge her meal. 🥰 was nice to eat a hot dinner instead of keeping baby constantly occupied now that she can eat solids, also dog friendly pub too 🥰I love that so much in Derbyshire! Lovely time out! We drove past so many times and it's a shame we didn't visit sooner!

The Poet and Castle is a friendly little pub excellent service good range of real ales and also plenty of draft beers and lagers. A lovely warm real fire at one end of the bar although I never ate this time the food that was being served looks really tasty

Absolutely amazing turkey roast here at the Poet & Castle. Piping hot, very tasty and a beautiful homemade Yorkshire pudding. Our party of 5 all loved it and cleared their plates. Massive compliments to the chef xx

First time visit with 4 friends, and not the last... First off the Staff were awesome and very friendly very attentive throughout our evening, the service from drinks to food was great. All 5 of us had food after spending time to review the menu have to say we were differently not disappointed in out choices from home made Lasagne to the great Burgers and Pizza - And little note the chips are a must!. Overall if you want great place to drink eat and feel welcome then I highly recommend you try the Poet & Castle..

The menu is amazing can’t fault it one bit but the chef ruined everything we had after a really bad meal today we was ill for hours . I’m sure when they get a better chef it will be great but until then I’m afraid we won’t be back 👎

Fantastic meal out, the food was truly amazing. The burgers we had were homemade and they were very very tasty. The pub looks great. The work Ruth and Jim have put in will certainly pay dividends. We will definitely be back. I could only give 5 stars but deserves more

Waited an hour for food to come ,arrived worst Sunday Roast I have ever had ,yorkshires like soggy sponge cakes ,roast so hard n black even a steak knife couldnt cut them ,everything cold even mixed up the meat we ordered n yes we did complain

Just had a beautiful meal. The lasagne was Devine. The atmosphere was lovely with bright and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend. Please have the decency to wear a mask as the place is lovely and clean and i witnessed the staff using hand sanitiser regularly. Definitely a lovely pace for a full tummy and lots of smiles as the nights draw in. Xxxx

the new owners are lovely. they are very keen on social distancing and all the new covid rules, they seem to very welcoming and all the bar staff are amazing with the table service. a great improvement from the last owners

Large group of friends, including children went to this pub for the evening. From the moment we walked in we felt incredibly welcomed. The new owners introduced themselves and couldn’t do enough for us. Due to covid restrictions we had to order drinks from our table, yet not once did we have to wait. The service was amazing. Really horrible staff in this pub...except the one young girl who was waitressing and doing all the running about all night. Posting about my family on Facebook saying that we wasn’t following the Covid rules when we clearly was!! Would never go back in this pub ever again.

The landlady and some of the staff was very rude and not very welcoming at all...there was one lovely young girl who was lovely and couldnt do enough for you. The pub was a lovely pub but could definatley do with new staff and landlady....i understand times are hard but manners cost nothing. Would not reccomend going to this pub until new management.

Since the new owners came in they’ve done a good job with the COVID restrictions and make the customers feel welcome and they are doing everything to keep the customers safe and they are a very family friendly pub and I recommend

Nice pub but run by a poor manageress, spoke to our party out of term, also watched her bully the younger member of staff. Tried to use the covid restrictions against us even though we were already adhering to the rules, also they were very happy taking over £150 from our family while we were there. Won't be going back to this pub while she attempts to run it. Also trying to call our family out on Facebook via name dropping to try and get a little band waggon up, how pathetic!!!

A lovely very clean pub doing a fantastic job during these difficult times. Great social distancing and safety procedures in place. When we came for our pizzas on Wednesday we felt 100% safe and everytime we've been for a drink we've felt exactly the same. The staff are all so lovely and friendly. We will definitely keep going back

We went to the poet and castle whilst we were staying in derbyshire We had a very warm welcome The staff were excellent and could not do enough for us The menu was mainly pizzas but they were delicious We wish this place well having just reopened prior to the lockdown and hope they go from strength to strength in these difficult times

Very nice place lucky other people canceled otherwise we would not have had a realy good night. Staff very nice never been to a pub and all the time felt realy welcome. Food was the best iv had so far can't wait for the steaks and thank you to the shef and manager From The burns family.

Five star. The pizzas were really lovely, managed the whole 12 inch one and it was really good quality and very well cooked. Would totally recommend a visit as the new landlord and landlady are really nice and friendly.

Went to try the new Pizzas offered for the first time since the change of management - they were excellent and amazing value with the Government's Eat Out deal helping. Quite diffferent from the usual pizza emporiums, they have a good selection of toppings on a slightly spicy tomatoe and cheese base that provided a memorable and enjoyable experience. COVID precauions working well - so get booking for the best value Pizzas for years.

Very dissatisfied- waited an hour and decided to leave -it was a great place to dine - it seems to have gone downhill which is sad - I would not recommend it anymore

Arrived for scheduled appointment to discuss wedding venue, was left waiting for half hour only for landlady not to show and not contact us to cancel, very ignorant of landlady.

Once a lovely welcoming pub with great beers and excellent food. A frequent stop-off for days out and drinks with friends. Appears to have dropped off a cliff with karaoke and an owner who seems to crave attention from a baying crowd.

Me and my family used to be locals at this pub until the new ownership took over, they are rude to customers and give off a very uncomfortable vibe. Since they have came into ownership of the pub the only good staff have been dropping like flies. There is only now one staff member, young man, who seems to care about the well being of the customers. The Sunday dinner used to be extraordinary but now tastes like a piece of cardboard on a dirty plate. We had to wait at least an hour for our food to come and at that it was still cold and dry. I feel very unwelcome in this facility now, a shame this great place has turned into such a dump.
