Best Pub for miles around. Amazing food, fantastic looked after ales, and great atmosphere. Always a go to place for my kids when they want to eat out.

Booked a table for 5pm. Ordered food approximately 5.15 at 6.05pm still not received any food no-one said there was a wait on food even though there was only 6 adults and 4 children in restaurant. Then there was just the 2 of us and a table of 2 adults and 2 children who walked out after waiting 55 mins and still no food arrived for them..Really bad service .Wouldn't recommend going here unless you want to wait 1 hour for food after booking a table

Visited for Sunday lunch, and just couldn’t fault it. Had the roast lamb, the food is outstanding, and the service was very friendly and personable. Prices are extremely reasonable, a hidden gem in this lovely village. Thank you!

Visited last night for a Friday night tea. The whole pub has a lovely atmosphere and is a really popular place, so it has a good atmosphere. The restaurant area is mainly at the back which is in the conservatory and a lovely setting, There is a great choice for a vegetarian like myself and so I had quite a few meals to choose from. I had the goats cheese spanish omelette with salad and it was delicious - really tasty. My husband had steak and ale pie with chips and mushy peas. We were both pleasantly stuffed! My husband also really enjoyed the cask ales available and the food is really reasonable given the portion sizes and how delicious it was. Also, the waiters/waitress who attended to us were really friendly and helpful. Would I return? Absolutely - can't wait. Oh and it's dog friendly too- could it get any better? Yes it can! There are amazing music events on which we will be definitely attending at some point in the future!

Pop in Easter Sunday for lunch and I have to say what a lovely place the staff were very polite and friendly. I had the prawn cocktail, small plate steak and chips and the cheese cake which was wonderful. I have found another chef who can cook a well done steak without cremating it .My dad had the soup, small plate gammon egg and chips and Sorbet. My husband had Minted Lamb Henry and Eaton Mess.I would highly recommend the Red Lion Mawdesley. They just need to put a Black forest gateau on the menu and they will be perfect 👌

The Red Lion is the heart of a warm community, the staff are efficient and friendly the live music was great. The landlord welcomed us like VIPs . We came for live music Saturday ( The Salford Angels ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ) and back for lunch Sunday ...again acoustic guitar ( Victoria ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ). The Sunday lunch is very good value with a specials board too.

Wow where do I begin? Had a meal here for my wife’s 60th ( 28 people eating) Host Ian & Sarah couldn’t have done more - well organised, room set out perfectly, food & service excellent. Great help in setting up a surprise visit from our daughter. We could not fault our evening ❤️

A great traditional pub and restaurant with delicious food, polite and friendly staff and a great atmosphere. We had a wonderful meal on New Years Eve with live music to entertain us throughout the evening. I had calamari, monk fish tails and a cheese board with a nice bottle of wine and a few single Malts. Look forward to visiting again soon.

We called in for lunch on Wednesday and was not disappointed A lovely tasty starter followed by a “medium “ fish and chips ,goodness knows what the large size is as we both struggled to finish the beautifully cooked meal. Our waitress was lovely, very attentive and cheerful In the words of Arnie “ we will be back” 😊🕺🏻👏

The Awesome Red Lion, just fabulous. Staff always friendly and welcoming. Food is amazing with a good variety of vegetarian options, not something most places seem to be able to manage. Great range of Beers! The whole team are brilliant!

At last a pub with a good pint of ale. Otter ale suited hubby and a blond for me. Nicely refurbished and comfortable.

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that the bar area had a bad odour to it akin to a sewer. Secondly, the barman was extremely unpleasant towards us and was encouraging the children of another family to run around screaming. This was our first visit and will definitely be our last.

Food was beautiful, my husband had mushroom carbonara and it came with garlic bread, he loved it, just lacked parmesan. I had salmon with crushed potatoes and the best carrots I have ever tasted, so sweet, perfectly cooked, truly yummy. Lovely chef he told me how to cook them, sunday roast sounds amazing. Interior is only so so, hence the 4 stars, food was 5!

Very friendly barman Steve, Good beer, and friendly locals. I didn't eat this time, but the menu sounds fantastic. The bar is also dog friendly.

Although on the surface this place may appear in need of a little TLC don't let that put you off. The welcome is friendly and you instantly feel wanted. The bar is small and very cosy, currently showing Euro 2020. There are benches outside that catch the sunshine even late afternoon but also a dining conservatory at the back which, although a little neglected due to the pandemic, is a comfortable place to eat. The food-we had - steak- was absolutely delicious and great value too.Sticky toffee pudding was also scrumptious served with vanilla ice cream. The chef came out a couple of times to check we were happy and we had great service all evening. We will definitely return. The team seem commited to building their reputation and providing a great service for the local community. Food was fabulous, highly recommended.

This is a great local country pub, the Sunday dinner is £10 for two courses and is fantastic highly recommend. Loads of parking , excellent food, great value and lovely staff!

We were pleasantly surprised to see such a menu full of mediterranean style cuisine, we really enjoyed seeing such a variety of different dishes and everyone cooked to order and well presented. The service was very good and we were not rushed to leave our table.

Can not fault the food or the staff, the only criticism is they served hot food on a very cold plate needles to say the meal was cold in 3 minutes not good in winter

Nice clean friendly pub with great food, gluten free was not a problem for my husband, he enjoyed a gammon, I had the beef stroganoff and our friends had the chicken supreme and steak. My husband asked for new potatoes with his gammon but it came with chips which were soon changed. Desserts were also very good with a reasonable choice, ice cream was gluten free, the cheese and biscuits came on a board with good sized portions. Staff were very polite and helpful making this an enjoyable evening out. Good choice of draft beers for our friend too.The only down side was the time we had to wait for our main meals and table clearing afterwards, but all in all would go to this venue again.

Super friendly, great beer, great food We visited while on holiday and all the staff could not have been more welcoming. The beer was amazing. Great for families or couples. Thank you for a great meal and making it special for our 4 and 6 year olds.

Unexpected Good Friday trip to Mawdesley in the glorious weather. First visit to the Red Lion for 40 years !! We ordered two lunches, one being pie and chips and the other being (according to the menu) a "fish finger sandwich", with a side of of "salt and pepper chips", which cost £3.50 alone. The pie was about average. The fish finger sandwich didn't actually contain ANY fish fingers; rather they were goujons, which were pleasant, but they were'nt what it said on the menu. The salt and pepper chips were chips with salt and pepper on. To quote someone from a TV play in the eighties, I couldn't help thinking "I could do that" !! On the plus side the portion sizes were on the large side and the service itself was friendly and faultless.

I held my 50th Afternoon tea here with friends. From start to finish the whole experience was fantastic. Lovely food, efficient service, friendly staff and excellent value for money. Would highly recommend.

We’ve been here twice recently and the food has been eleven out of ten. The staff are always on hand, polite and attentive. I could not recommend the food here enough! It’s excellent.

Decided last minute to have tea out, made very welcome, no booking required. Excellent selection of food, very friendly staff and food prepped and presented excellent by the chef. Can’t fault this place. The pub is excellent, clean and tidy. You can eat in the pub or restaurant area. Nothing is too much trouble and food that is served is beautiful. If you haven’t been, definitely worth a visit. Tuesday and Friday is steak night ... 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £25. Booking in advance is not essential, walk in customers are made more than welcome.

Sat outside so didn't get to check what the indoors was like. Seems okay though.

Friendly staff, great range of beers, and food was tasty. I had the steak it was cooked well, we had a large party and no complaints. Kids food was really nice, they had fish & chips and sausage & mash, good portions.

Visited last night with my friend for steak night. Beautiful meal in a lovely restaurant, excellent staff and meal cooked to my request. Visit here regularly and the food is always lovely. Staff are friendly and helpful. Great selection of drinks available too.

Went to the Red Lion on Remembrance Sunday for the roast dinner, Wow, was this meal tasty! Both Beef & Pork were cooked perfectly and no sign of fat or gristle! Real home cooked food in a beautiful conservatory. And the price, it was under £10, well worth every penny! It’s a must visit place! .

Service was fine. Food was nothing special but OK. They don't have a Wine list so you don't know the price of drinks before ordering, or even the selection available. I was offered just one brand of cider but later saw at least one other. I was ultimately charged for the cider I didn't have! You could look on the website but the prices charged are higher than those shown online, so be prepared!

Visited at the weekend with family for an afternoon tea and very much enjoyed it.We were served sandwiches, sausage rolls, savoury tarts (mini burgers for the kids), fish and chips and a little cup of their delicious cheddar and onion soup. A selection of sweet treats including scones, profiteroles, chocolate fudge cake and sticky toffee cake (kids had marshmallow and strawberry kebabs and a jelly, with profiteroles and fudge cake). All of this served with raspberry lemonade and tea/coffee.Due to a mix up one portion was missed at first but the staff quickly resolved the problem.All in all, highly recommended!

Booked for my partners 50th and wasn’t disappointed. The attention to detail was amazing, they dressed the room and made everyone extremely welcome.The food was lovely, majority of people had steak and everyone complimented the steak and sauces.Rachel, the owner, was unbelievably attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Everyone commented on how lovely the evening was, finished off nicely with a singer in the bar area.The pub is clean and inviting, the staff are welcoming and attentive, and the food was great.Many thanks to Rachel, Becky and their team for a faultless evening

First visit to the Red Lion, and quite enjoyable sunday meal, (roast beef or pork), was on the menu and both well cooked, (the chef will cook the roast beet to your requirements), The staff were freindly and the meals were served quite quick.

We live in a nearby village and our daughter has moved to Mawdsley. We have been going to The Red Lion more often and have been going there more often. We've enjoyed it a lot each time we've been.

Very nice country pub with fine outdoor seating area. Unfortunately not serving food for next two weeks as staff on holidays!

Just got back from having Sunday lunch at The Red Lion and I can only say it was delicious and such good value . I’ve paid twice as much and not enjoyed it the same .

Good food...but we were the only 2 people in the restaurant (Thursday evening). Very quiet!

Visited Red Lion Mawdesley for Sunday lunch. Very few customers for a Sunday afternoon, just three tables. Even with such few customers the service was terrible. It took over an hour for the food to arrive from ordering. We asked several times what was causing the delay but we're not given an explanation or apology. When the food arrived it was okay, nothing special but just okay. Only negative about the roast was the horrible frozen roast potatoes. Such a shame, all the makings of a good pub but massive let down on service.

The pub looks fairly average from the outside, but the conservatory is a pleasant light and airy environment for a meal. The service was friendly and attentive. I had the tomato soup to start. It was tasty and about twice the amount I would have expected.

I went for lunch with a friend yesterday and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It had been a couple of years since I had eaten here and it was just ok, a bit rough around the edges. What a nice surprise it was, really nice atmosphere, warm friendly staff and tasty food. The whole ambiance of the place has changed, a real turn around. Well done all involved.

went on one of the coldest days this year felt sorry for Nick as the boiler had packed up so it was very cold BUT we were told it would soon be fixed and it was.Hubby and I went for the light bites of gammon and chips the gammon was perfect and just the right amount of chips can recommend the onion rings as well it was nice not to be overfaced with chips you could tell that that the gammon was of good quality look forward to going back in fact we are taking Mum next time who is 92 as we think she will enjoy!
