6 of us, 4 adults and 2 children, went to the Black Horse yesterday for the Sunday roast dinner. It was excellent in quality and value for money. The children had far too much on their plates. The service was also excellent.

I'm quite shocked that this happened to be honest! I've been wanting to try this place because the food on Social Media and the reviews seemed to be good and worth a visit. I originally booked for a special occasion on Friday but we had to cancel because my daughter wasn't in the best of spirts after a busy day at sports camp. I called and apologised, I asked if we could book for Sunday instead, they said of course and then proceeded to inform me that they only serve roast dinners. I replied that would be great. We turned up at our booking time 4pm, got shown to our table. Was informed what roast were available, we all chose and ordered our drinks. We were then informed about 10 mins later that there were no more roast dinners. I replied but that's what we booked for and that we were informed at the time of booking that that was all they were serving. Please bare in mind that we have a 4 year old daughter. We were told we could choose off the menu which was a burger or something else that was ill described. The adults menu left a lot to be desired. We were asked if we still wanted our drinks. We decided not to order after feeling unwelcome. The definition of hospitality was not observed here today. Luckily for us we were welcomed at a near by place that served us excellent food!

Not enamoured. Poor midweek menu. There was nothing that might be described as traditional pub grub. The chicken enchiladas were very mediocre. There was no one else eating at the same time. Speaks volumes.

This place has gone seriously down hill- we came to get some small plates between us and after being told there wasn’t much in from what we ordered, the food that we were given was awful. Poorly made, overcooked yet still somehow luke warm? Cheaper than Wetherspoons quality for over the price. The hummus was like cat food in both taste and texture, the nacho sauce like porridge. We were advised on a 25 minute wait which quickly became a 45 minute wait although nobody had mentioned. The drinks were from a 2L plastic bottle which again, we weren’t told about but were still about to be charged full post-mix price. Then to add to the cherry on top, the man in the kitchen came out in dirty joggers, a hoodie and a cut on his eye that hadn’t been covered. Not exactly cleanliness to show the customers. We tried some of each dish and were left underwhelmed, still hungry and slightly nauseous whilst only the cost of drinks was removed from the bill! The young girl on the floor never came over to ask how it was, I’m assuming because she knew we wouldn’t have a good word to say. Thankfully, the girl behind the bar was lovely about the situation so she deserves to be paid more as it seems she’s keeping the only somewhat form of atmosphere single-handedly. Cannot say we’ll be back again, a shame for a pub that used to be brilliant.

Thought we'd call in to try their Sunday Roast.... and it was AMAZING.... it's the first and only Sunday roast I haven't been able to finish. The pub isn't in the best location, and I think it maybe a listed building which means not much can be done to increase its kerb appeal or interior, but all this aside.... the roast was 100%! We opted for a 2 meat of gammon and beef.... it was huge.... all hot, fresh and the meat was falling apart it was that soft... There were no beers on pump... and I think it's because this pub doesn't get the footfall it deserves for many reasons, which has a knock on effect of what's inside.... shame really... but if you take anything away from this..... GO TRY THEIR SUNDAY ROAST!

Excellent local food and beer, had hallumi fries to start, Enchiladas and a beef burger for main course both with fries. Coleslaw was tasty to. For less than £30 each with a pint each this was great value for money. We ended up with food left over and took it home in a box for supper. Portion sizes were also excellent. Our waitress Hannah was top quality and attended to our every need. I highly recommend the black horse to anyone passing or living nearby 5 stars 🌟

Saw that they'd started doing burger share boards. Sent them a message asking if we should pre-book the one we wanted and was told not to, just to let them know when we'd arrive. When we got there (same day) we were told the item we wanted wasn't available. Got an alternative that was ok but not really the item we'd made the journey for which was disappointing. Especially as we'd asked if we should pre-order to make sure it was available. These sharing boards weren't on the menu we were given so we needed to ask specifically about them. These weren't offered to use. Service was reasonable quick and the girl serving was nice enough. Plenty of parking opposite which is handy as it's kinda in the middle of nowhere. I think the atmosphere is usually a quiet pub but when we were there we ended up getting a group of coked up "lads lads lads" sitting right next to us shouting at each other. This, again, sadly brought down the experience.

Came last minute on a Wednesday at 6pm rang to book but really didn't need to as when we arrived there were only us and 2 more people in which surprised us. First thing noticed the pub is run down inside smelt musty anyway we still went ahead greeted by a nice guy presume manager? We got menus but couldn't see the boards on at all which also surprised us because if we didn't know beforehand they did the sharing boards we wouldn't have known. We ordered the big Jack's sharing board it arrived quickly could have fed us for 2 days which it did ! The chicken was lovely and tender as was the steak. The prawns and halloumi were nice and the sausage in the hot dog very tasty. Only downfall of it all were the burgers they were very thick and dry and we did leave one. All the rest lovely and we did enjoy. We were in for over a good hour and in all that time only 2 other people in the pub shame but I guess busier at weekends ! This pub is def trying to make a good go of it but also a tip for the owners the pub needs airing it's musty I know its an old building but it can be a bit off putting which is a shame as the food is very good. We actually opened the side window next to us to get some fresh air. We would def go again as we enjoyed it and the food was good.

Don't bother! We were greeted and shown to our table, drinks order taken and drinks brought to us quickly. This is where the positives end!! We were rushed to order by a very pushy waitress. The waitress didn't know what was on the food sharing boards. The chef refused to prepare our food as per our dietary requirements (with no cheese and the cheese sauce serve separately in a jug). We had to order something else so opted for burger with pulled pork and loaded fries. They'd ran out of pulled pork so I ordered a burger. The burger was average and the chicken on the fries was overcooked and dry. There is A LOT of spice and hot sauce so avoid this place if you don't like spice. We weren't offered desserts although had noted the chef left soon after our food came out of the kitchen. On paying we asked why the sharing board burgers couldn't be served without cheese and why could we not have the cheese sauce separate. We were told (by someone who may have been the manager) that "when the chef is in one of his moods that's it" and "he likes his boards a certain way as he's bipolar and won't make any changes". On reflection with how we were rushed to order and how quick the chef left after our food was served... was it extra work to follow dietary requirements? Was it extra work for pulled pork? Or was the chef in that much of a rush to clock off?! I really got the impression the staff aren't bothered..... so I won't be bothering with this place again. I'd much rather go to the next restaurant a bit further along the road.

My wife and I had dinner, she enjoyed her meal, however my order was wrong and a lot of the steak was tough sinewy when it arrived. When the second part of my surf and turf came it had a spicy butterfly chicken brest which was dry. Too much spice everywhere and no veg on the menu. It would be OK if you liked American style Mexican food. The menu was very restrictive. Will not go again.

We booked a table for 7 of us at 3pm on Friday, as it was a friends birthday and another friend had come up from wales to visit. We got to the pub and the table wasn't ready for us, we had to move our own table to accommodate all 7 of us. The pub also has a certain stale musky smell about it with a mixture of stale ale mixed in, the place needs a serious clean. If the pub area is like that, I'd dread to see the kitchen. I had a pint of Neckoil, which I absolutely love but I took my first mouthful and it just tasted dirty and flat, it was absolutely awful. I had a pint of Madre as a swap and that was ok but still didnt taste right, then I noticed things floating around in the bottom of the pint that looked a bit like limescale. I then decided to swap to bottles and told my friends as they arrived to just stick to bottles of beer. After my friends arrived, what I assume was the landlord of the pub came over and said we have to place a food order as soon as possible (note that this was at 3.20pm and we were literally the only table in the pub) my friend from wales hadn't even sat down at this point! He then said he'd give us 5 minutes to choose food. Gee, thanks! We decided to book there as we liked the look of the food posted on Facebook, but the decor of the pub just does not match the menu at all. The food came and it was "ok", but it didn't look like the pictures they put on Facebook. I couldn't tell the quality of the food as everything was lathered in sauce, so that's all we could taste. The only positive was the barmaid who was very pleasant and smiley, when I took my drinks back she didn't hesitate to apologise and offer me a different drink. Definitely will not be returning here, what a shame as it used to be such a nice pub a little while ago.

We couldn't finish our meals as they were all covered in oil. The nachos (which were hot doritos) were swimming in oil, which I'm not sure why they had oil on? There was only Mexican style food on the menu, even though it's an old British style pub, so were expecting pub grub. Another couple had to leave their food too as they said it was inedible and they asked for some money off their bill. We complained at the till but no money was knocked off at all, just a weak sorry. Won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend. I never complain or ask for money off but I could hardly eat more than a couple of mouthfuls, same with my boyfriend and he eats everything! We don't have that kind of money to waste.

I am updating my review of this place. 6 years ago this was an amazing place. We went today 06/03/2024 and chose not to eat. Menu was very different to what shows up on other photos. I can’t say anything seemed appealing for me personally but the place itself had just lost its charm. The main vibe I got was ‘do not eat here’ if I am totally wrong about this place I apologise …… but I don’t think I am. The only reason to re visit was the waitress was lovely. Okay she spilt a drink on us but honestly that was just funny. I’d go again and let her spill a drink on us before choosing food there.

We came here after hearing good things and I'd seen some pictures of peoples' meals, which did look decent. However the menu is all Spanish/Mexican style food, we were expecting pub grub as it is a British traditional old style pub. When the food came, everything was swimming in oil, even the nachos which I'm not even sure why they had oil on? I couldn't finish my main course and my boyfriend didn't finish his, which isn't like him. Won't be coming back. Just felt sorry for the waitress, who was very kind and polite. She kept asking how our meal was but maybe too much, because she must've known it looked awful :( I don't usually complain but just want people to save their money.

Ate here last night, the burgers were very tasty and well priced. The three platter choices for £15 are a bargain. Peroni @ £5 per pint is well priced, the pub was busier than last time we went, but could do with more people to get a better atmosphere. The new owners are trying hard to make a successful business in hard times. One suggestion please ask your staff not to vape inside the pub in view of your customers! Would we return? Yes why not it’s good to support local businesses

We used to go to this pub/restaurant quite often before lockdown and always had an enjoyable meal and got chatting to other diners. We knew it was under new management and decided to try it again. When we arrived there was one other table just finishing their meal and another two tables of four in the other rooms. We ordered drinks and our meal including a starter between us. We didn't expect to wait 45 mins. for our starter considering there were so few people dining and it was at least another half hour before we got our main meal. The whole meal was nothing special or complicated - just basic. We were unfortunately, definitely not impressed and will not be returning.

Myself and my better half decided to go for a walk in the sun up to the Black Horse in Limbrick and give the food a try... They had Aspalls Cider on draught so already a positive for me! We went for starters and mains each and pricing was in line with most pub restaurants nowadays, but what we got was fantastic!... I've eaten at some of the best restaurants in the country and abroad and was astounded at how flavoursome, fresh, and we'll put together the food was! I had the Calamari to start and the Mrs went for soup of the day... Both easy to get wrong and often are to a point but both were perfectly done! The side salad with my Calamari was one of the best I have EVER had for flavour, dressing and freshness so I was chuffed to bits to have more of it on the plate with my main!... I went for the double chicken stack burger and fajitas for the better half and again, zero disappointment, which is rare to find everything so spot on nowadays!!... Staff were friendly and personable and the venue itself retains its traditional charm and warmth... So, so impressed we'll be returning and cannot sing their praises enough for the quality of the food and service we received!

Then receiving food the fish and chips had bones in it and the chunky chips was hard, which was also on my sons plate. So I went and spoke quietly to the bar staff just to let them no and course no fuss, to then have another member of staff come out and try to tell me that fish has bones in it and u will swallow some and the chips wasnt hard and then walked off with an attitude before we could speak. Bear in mind we had already paid and wasn't asking for nothing back just to make them aware. Absolutely disgusting attitude sorry

Excellent pint of cask Landlord, but not cheap. Well worth the trip out.

Good choice on menu and very tasty. My husband loved his pie and both him and my daughter raved about the chips. My lamb shank was also delicious.

Wow! Been three times now for the Tappas. Without doubt, some of the best food you will taste this year (or next year). The Pub is an old fashioned classic; welcoming and cosy with plenty of seating. The Management is a friendly and likeable family...

Went yesterday with my wife and our dog for dinner. The food was fantastic. It was piping hot and extremely large portions. The place is spotlessly clean and there is a huge car park at the front. We will certainly be going again this week....

Really nice little place just outside of Chorley. Staff were lovely, really friendly and allowed us to park overnight in the car park. The car park is quite small and half of it is on quite a steep slope of you're looking to park overnight. Free if you buy food/drink. Not suitable for large motorhomes. Reasonably priced food. We had a roast dinner which was quite nice although no stuffing and the chocolate brownie was a bit burnt. For the price and the atmosphere though I can't complain too much. It was a nice place to be and I'd visit again :)

Not been here for a while. Used to go in regularly. Then it closed because of lockdown and illness and then re-opened but a friend told me they weren't serving lunches. Anyway, they are now. The menu is good and interesting. Lots of Mediterranean style...

Great tradutional country pub, cosy with real fires. First visit since it reopened with a new a slightly different menu. Traditional pub classics but now joined with a pizza menu and tapas/Mediterranean dishes. I had a number of tapas dishes and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and flavour of them. I would definitely recommend giving them a try. Cost wise, and possibly indicative of uk eating out costs right now, the prices of the dishes were on the high side for the quantities served. £7 for Calamari is about right but there needs to be a couple more. The £7 creamy mushrooms seemed expensive for a small portion considering the ingredients but they were delicious. I would have preferred the patatas bravas to have been hand cut cubes of potato, possibly with a spoon of alioli but these should definitely be closer to £5. All portions need to be slightly bigger and then it would be a definite 5 stars. A great pint of Black Sheep on tap too.

Chilli was really good as was the steak pie. Only downer was that the gravy was salty. Chef test your dishes. Otherwise really enjoyed.

Stopped off for a Sunday lunch after our walk around anglezarke. It was really enjoyable. Food was very good and piping hot just what we needed. It felt like good homecooked food not the mass produced stuff you can get at other places. Very tasty. We would return when walking nearby again.

Called in for lunch today, chicken tikka meal very nice, vegetarian burger quite tasty but it would have been better if the burger had been the same size as the bun rather than a bit over half the size.

Sorry to say we had a bad experience here and would not go back. We arrived about 6.30 pm on a Wednesday night which was the first steak night. The pub was chilly and the lighting wasn’t on where we wanted to sit. When the waitress brought the menu it didn’t bear any resemblance to the menu on the website. They didn’t have what my husband wanted on the new menu and there was very little else he would eat. We don’t drink wine so the steak and wine deal wasn’t much good to us but we got talked into it by the waitress. Our starters and desserts were very good but the steak was dreadful. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Must have changed hands from last visit such a shame ,to be given a Latte straight from a packet and be told that a Flat White is just a spoon of coffee with milk and sugar . Asked about the coffee machine only to be told we can’t plug a coffee machine in something to do with the electrics ,found that rather odd we usually buy two drinks each and cake it’s lovely to see these little cafe when your out walking and give them your support but sadly I’m not paying for a packet latte.

Called in on Sunday for dinner on way to Southport Bar lady never spoke except to say how much order was, ordered two Sunday roast a chicken strips on bed of salad. On receiving the chicken I instantly noticed a slug climbing up the inside of the dish, I told the male server who said would you like me to remove it “I sad yes my partner not going to eat that if she sees it “ he just got a tissue and wiped it off the dish. No apology or offer to change. Safe to say we were all put off our meal and will not be returning.

I got my order about 45 minutes after placing it - one coffee, one pastry and a muffin at a location five minutes away. Not the driver's fault! Costa took a very long time to prepare the order. From my understanding the driver was waiting at Costa for a long time. It shouldn't take the most part of an hour to get coffee :( I ordered it for my morning overtime at my workplace and it was nearly time to open to the public when my breakfast came. And the croissant was stale. Sorry:(
