2-4-1 Burger night, best burger I’ve had in a long time, have eaten here a few times over the years and it’s always been good affordable food. It’s a pity some of the other local pubs don’t follow suit instead of ridiculously over priced meals.

Dined here Sunday evening with family. It was my recommendation to come here, as I’ve been a few times before with work colleagues and friends. Having the back restaurant space was perfect for us, a family of eight for our belated Christmas get together. The food was fantastic, plenty of specials available and a huge range of meals to please all palettes. The portion sizes were as good as I recall (which was a big selling point when pitching this location to family!) I had the large fish and chips which was excellent, fresh crisp fish and a good portion of chips, peas and salad. 10/10! My only niggles was the service and the banoffee pie. We found it tricky to catch anyone’s attention for extra drinks, and were looking to chase up forgotten drinks missed off a previous order. When drinks were served, they were handed to us by the rim, which is always a little off putting. Banoffee pie was served in a pastry case, not a biscuit base which I felt a little odd. With such a great selection of puddings, I wish I’d selected something else. The bill was served to us just with the price written on a duplicate pad page? Not an itemised recipe as expected. Very odd. A good experience all in all great value for money, and decent food. I’ll definitely be back.

I am a minibus driver who was taking a group of elderly people to the Red Lion p/h for afternoon tea and coffee. what a great welcoming we received with staff offering to help with the not so able passengers on entrance into the Red Lion p/h. the seating was great and everything was served within 10 mins of our arrival. we were a group of 14 and nothing was too much trouble. We had beautiful scones and cake afterwards which was served with Tea and Coffee. I would strongly recommend Red Lion p/h for those that have not visited.

We arrived for our booking time of 8.30 on 26/8 and not before as we were worried about social distancing. We could not even get through the door! NO SOCIAL DISTANCING IN THE BAR AT ALLAbsolutely shocking. Stood for a good 10 mins without even being acknowledged by the one member of staff that seemed to be running around on her own. Nobody behind the bar! No hand sanitizer by the door on entering & only one bottle on the end of the bar that I could see. The table I had requested still had people sitting on it & it is my understanding that you have to have a turnaround time between guests for resanitization? So yes we walked out. I expected the pub to be busy because of the government scheme eat out to help out, but quite honestly that was a shambles. We used to eat here when previous owners were landlords this was our first visit since then. I called them from the car park and the gent I spoke to said “thank you” I said thank you & he said oh yes sorry I meant thanks for letting us know. Tried to call 3 places as we left to try & book a table elsewhere for our Anniversary dinner, could not get a table as everyone stopped cooking at 9pm. Red Lion we will not be coming your way again. You need to sort the social distancing out its shocking. Everywhere else I have been over this last few weeks have been utterly compliant with the rules you have not & it’s wrong on every level!YOU MUST PROTECT YOURSELF, STAFF & CUSTOMERS

Visited the Red Lion on 18th April our Wedding Anniversary again. We had a really wonderful meal, we didn't book and found it really busy at midday. The service was really good as usual, the food exceeded our expectations, yes even after eating there several times before. The kitchen is Gluten Free and the food is good and beautifully presented and served with a lovely smile, very nicely cooked vegetables and plenty of them. It is not even expensive, in fact it is very reasonably priced. I'm sure that like many pubs they can be caught out with a rush of un-booked diners but generally we have always had good service.

We both had roast beef and the beef was lovely. Slightly pink and melt in the mouth. Nice big portions for a really reasonable price. The new owners were really friendly and welcoming and it was the little touches that made a difference. They'd put a mat down on the floor for our dogs to sleep on and they gave them both a treat. Candle on the table, fresh flowers etc. Would deff recommend this pub and we're already planning on going back another evening to try out the rest of their menu.

Plenty of seating both inside and out so caters for all the family, including the dog. Down from Scotland for a family wedding, we had lunch on the Friday when we arrived and again on Sunday when we met up with old friends who said that few of the old style pubs still existed. We have been visiting the Red Lion for a few years and it remains one of our favourite places locally for a special meal. We have eaten in some very fine restaurants around the world and the quality of the food is splendid. I don’t usually write reviews (shame on me), but I was really surprised to read the previous review and was spurred to reply. My partner and I visited the restaurant just last weekend and had the cod ratatouille and the sea bass as well. Both dishes were delicious. This is the first time I have read a complaint about food being served hot! With pre dinner drinks, starters, a shared cheese board, a fine bottle of Chablis and two large night caps, the bill was still only slightly north of #100. I would say that’s pretty good value any day of the week! The blackboard menu (that is comprehensive), reflects the regular variation in dishes. Highly recommended (just don’t tell too many people as it’s difficult enough to get a table!).

Visited here last night after researching great restaurants for a rare evening out. Being Michelin recommended we were excited to go. Upon arrival we were not given a menu but expected to stand in front of a blackboard to choose food. I prefer to look at a menu whilst chatting over a glass of wine. Anyway, that to one side, when the duck breast starter arrived, there was so little of it for the price they were charging that the barmaid went and got me more and it tasted like cheap saveloy. My husbands tartlet was just 'ok'. The mains came out hotter than the surface of the sun and we're inedible for a few minutes. The cod ragout was nothing special and something that could be made at home with ease. The potatoes were greasy, and my sea bass skin was wet and the kale in the mash was clumped. It wasn't worth half the price they were charging and we left it and only paid for drinks and what we had eaten starter wise. He had driven for half hour to get there and stopped at a marks and spencer garage on the way home for a ready meal as it was late. Michelin recommended?? Really???

Our daughter brought my wife and me to the Red Lion for a Father's Day treat. The owner is a French chef and is wife does "front of house". She and her staff were warm, friendly and really helpful in advising us what was on offer. The food was cooked to perfection, hot and plentiful, and without much of a wait considering it was cooked to order as opposed to "boiled in the bag". They don't serve Guinness but they offered a sample of London Pride, which proved eminently acceptable. I had a rib-eye steak cooked rare and it is probably the best I have ever tasted, and we all felt the cost was very reasonable. The place was not overcrowded and was full of character. We visited the Red Lion on 28th April after hearing many excellent reviews regarding the food. The meal was booked for birthday celebrations for my family of 5 and we arrived promptly at 6:30pm only to find that the doors were locked. After seeing a lady working inside we knocked on the window and was told that she would be with us in a second...... Minutes past, whist waiting with my family outside in the cold, watching the member of staff continuing with her work inside, checking tables, clearly oblivious to the circumstances (when did it ever be acceptable to keep customers waiting outside??) Finally, the door was opened- no apology- no explanation as to why we were left outside for so long! The service did not unfortunately improve much when we got inside. After explaining that we had a table booked we were shown the menu board- in repose to our question whether they catered a separate menu for children we were told "we can do sauce and chips or something like that". This rude and blunt service led us to make the decision not to continue with the booking which was a huge disappointment as the menu did look wonderful... We just couldn't risk our celebratory meal being ruined further by bad service... A very disappointing evening!

We booked a table for 6.30pm for my mother's birthday on Thursday. We arrived bang on 6:30pm, however the doors were locked and we were left waiting outside in the freezing cold for in excess of 5 minutes whilst the lady inside continued to lay tables and potter around in the kitchen - despite being aware of our presence. When she opened the door, she told us that when she left at lunchtime, there were only 2 tables of 2 booked - why this was relevant, I don't know. It was as if she was trying to justify leaving us standing outside, rather than simply apologising. She asked if we wanted a drink, but did not show us to our table. Then she continued to prepare mats for laying tables and other duties. We asked if they had a children's menu, the lady responded to say "we can do sausage and chips or something".The atmosphere was just so uncomfortable. We felt that the lady was extremely rude and we were put off so much by her attitude that we decided to leave and go elsewhere. We were so disappointed because all of the reviews say the food is amazing, it's a shame we did not get to experience this due to the terrible service we received!

We had a lovely evening here. Nice atmosphere with a warm welcome from the staff. We arrived early for an 8 o'clock sitting and had our first drink sitting at the bar near to an open fire. Our meal was very nice, we had the fish soup and goats cheese and for the main I had rib eye stake and my partner had the lamb shank. The lamb was lovely but I found the stake a little fatty. All in all though the food was good. Would recommend to friends and family.

We visited the Red LIon as part of a party of twelve who were out for a Christmas meal. We were fairly regular users of the restaurant but drifted out of using it because the menu didn't change very often.I had carpaccio of tuna for starters, it was a bit tasteless. My wife had black pudding which she said was very good. I had confit duck leg for main my wife had pheasant ballantyne. Both were well prepared and very enjoyable. The restaurant was VERY busy and the service reflected this, but, hey ho, Saturday night before Christmas. Our food including a tip came to £53.00, our drinks came to £36.00.Overall a very nice evening, we kept our table until closing time.

Beautiful meal of skate and sea bass cooked perfectly with a lovely drop of quality wine reasonably priced. The French onion soup to start was very nice and very friendly service from the owner. Make sure you reserve at weekends

Visited here on a Saturday night with my lovely girlfriend. It was pretty quiet when we arrived at 7. The bar staff were nice and very welcoming. We were sat quite quickly and started to pick from the quite big diverse menu. The first course took a while to come out but we didn't have to wait for too long for the main. By this point the restaurant area was pretty busy and increasingly noisy. With the increased customers the service became a lot slower with only 3 members of staff and the owner (I assume) covering both bar and tables, it took quite a while for our desert order to be taken. Other than the slightly slow service the food was very nice, although my girlfriends lamb tasted lovely it was very fatty. It was about £75 for both of us which included 3 course each and 2 drinks each. So not too bad but at the higher end of a good pub grub.

Had a party of 16, and not one person could fault the food. All the food was bought out together and was all hot, perfect sized portions, and cooked to absolute perfection. Booked the back room for a wedding reception and it was shut off for us, the staff came and took our drinks regularly and we never had to wait for anything. Thank you.

I've been here quite a few times to eat and every time the food has been absolutely lovely. There is always such an array of different foods that you just have to try. The Sharing Platter is out of this world and is the perfect starter for 2. I tend to go for a fish dish and at the Red Lion it never fails! The Skate wing is cooked to perfection. All of this as well as lovely, friendly staff, you just can't go wrong!

We have visited here a number of times and have been happy with the food, however standards seem to be slipping. Our starters were very good, but only one main meal was acceptable. I ate my duck because I was starving after a long wait for it to arrive. It was eatable, but had little flavour and a tasteless cherry and (I believe) cognac sauce with 3 cherries. My husband ended up with just chips as a main, as his steak had to be returned twice as it was undercooked. The second time it was almost raw, so deduce what you like from that! After complaining I was asked by the waitress if I would like to speak to the chef. At this point I was in no mood to do this! Quite frankly I would have expected front of house to sort this out, not left it to the serving staff. We had a long wait for the desert menu to arrive. Personally I wouldn' t have bothered.Feel that too much time is spent chatting to friends and locals to the detriment of other diners. Pricey menu, most disappointing.

Book for a family celebration but despite being promised adequate seating when we arrived our party was split up and put on separate tables. Regretfully my meal was dreadful and other members of the party were dis appointed too.Considering the amount of money spent we regret that we will not be returning to this establishment. The staff were off and not at all helpful.

Saturday night dinner with friends. We were late booking, so had a large table in the bar, which was actually an advantage as the dining room was heaving. There was an extensive blackboard menu for starters and mains, with a strong French influence.. Prices were reasonable. Our waitress was super efficient, making sure our orders went in before the large party that arrived just before us. I had fish soup to start which was as good as any I have eaten on the Cote D'Azur, followed by calves liver with sage & lime butter which was superb and cooked to perfection. It was accompanied by several different fresh vegetables and impeccable Dauphinoise. A hearty plateful without being too large in quantity. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

The three courses were lovely. It is a little more expensive here but worth every penny. Even the kids were sorted with an ice cream specially for them.

Warm welcome on arrival from the very effecient Bar Maid. 3 cask ales to choose from of varying ABV strength. The 3 Menu's to choose from caused a little confusion as one is in the main dining room, another daily specials by the Bar and Typed snacks menu available also. All very apealing. Two of us had Duck which was excellent, one Sea Bass and one Seafood, chicken and sausage stew all also excellent. I had some of the house wines by the glass which were very good also. Puddings were divine. We shall return having know Patric for so many years from Faversham venues he has run so well. Not open Sundays or Mondays though.

I visited as a group of 4 females, we found it to be quite unfriendly and uncomfortable, we felt as though they were doing us a favour! when one of our party asked which meal the waitress would recommend, the reply was blunt & not very helpful. Service was not with a smile & I have found the staff in places such as nandos much more friendly & welcoming in comparison!

Food was delivered after delivery time being pushed back by an hour- when food arrived one of the boxes was covered in an orange mystery liquid. Food was cold and poorly prepared, and the Diet Coke ordered was a year out of date.

Nice pub and rooms, a few points to make: - Bathrooms small (which I think is unavoidable given the building), just a little too cramped - Staff friendly all way through stay - Lots of things not in stock or available when ordering at bar - Breakfast was very nice but no ketchup or brown sauce on table, when asked for both was given bottles of both with just dregs in - this is unacceptable - When coming back at night, entered bar and was given a room full of local stares lol
