The Red Lion in Stockport

Went in for some pub lunch and was such a pleasant experience food was absolutely gorgeous, the ciabattas were delicious! The service was also excellent Jess was very polite and friendly and made our experience. Will 100% be back! We called again on 26/8 and it was so busy but that didn't stop the fantastic service,we didn't have to wait long for our food,I had the pie and mash and it was absolutely gorgeous I'll definitely be having that again,

Booked table of 8 to take mother in law for her birthday. The menu was very reduced which we weren’t told on booking and one starter option only has one serving left, the room was very cold and and the toilets were freezing. Food was average. Soggy fish and chips though the ravioli was nice. The wait staff were disinterested and looked like they didn’t want to be there. A very disappointing meal in all.

A lovely festive meal, it was such a large dinner that I couldn't manage my desert, so brought it home to eat later! The first waitress wasn't very welcoming, hence the 4 stars.

Great place to go with children and dogs.

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience here. The food took over 45 mins to come out. When I asked about our food during the wait they said the kitchen was really busy. I wish they had told us before ordering. When it did come the burger tasted burnt. My wife liked her fish and chips. (I poured the chips onto my plate in the photo, they came in the bowl).

Elysse was a lovely, super friendly host during our short visit and great recommendation for the creme brûlée, we will be back!

I've just returned home from a wonderful meal at The Red Lion with my date and what a great dinner we had, beef Sunday roast and a beef and ale pie and a bottle of Prosecco and 2 lattes, all for just £40!! Great value and customer service all round!! 100%!! We'll be coming again soon!!

Menu really good and different to other venues which was a refreshing change. All staff gave us excellent customer service , a special mention for Ruby who is a credit to the business.

Delicious food, lamb hotpot followed by bread and butter pudding. Was cold after a 5 hour walk. Staff were great and turned the fire up for me. So cosy. Thanks!

The restaurant itself looks really nice but the food was so bad that we left after a full refund. Both Gammon steaks were harder than the sole of my shoe, it was difficult to cut it with a knife. Very disappointed!

They say first impressions are important and I agree. You arrive at the Red Lion to find that the car park is managed by one of those horrible private parking companies and if you don't ensure that you enter your correct vehicle registration number on the keypad inside you will get a parking charge notice. There are plenty of parking signs in the car park and by the pub entrance to reminding customers to register their vehicle details, but why risk the chance of upsetting a customer who either forgets or makes an error when entering thr number on the key pad. My wife and I were seated right by the entrance door. The pub was not that busy and we asked to move to somewhere further into the pub to be warmer and cosier, not struck out on a limb with people going past us when entering/leaving the premises. Our order was taken and drinks and food served quickly. I had a pie, mash, vegetable, and gravy. The pie was nowhere near my benchmark of good steak and ale pie, the portion of each type of vegetable was small (1 broccoli floret, a couple of slices of carrot and some red cabbage), except the mash, which was OK size. In complete contrast, the previous day we had a meal in the Ring O Bells, another Robinsons pub, in Marple, which gave a much bigger portion of vegetables in a separate dish. My wife thought her meatless burger and chips was OK. The real ale I had was served in good condition. After my meal I visited the toilet and was shocked to see a member of staff come out of a cubicle, and he went straight back to work without washing his hands. I mentioned this to a guy behind the bar when paying our bill and he said he would have a word with this member of the team. He did so and reported back that the reason he didn't wash his hands was because he didn't use the toilet, he just went in there to check his blood sugar levels, because he felt they were high. Even so, he still should have washed his hands because touching the cubicle door handles is a source of cross contamination from previous users who had used the toilet. We didn't bother to stay for desert. We ate in 3 Robinson's pubs during our holiday and this was the weakest link. I would not use this pub again as the food was nothing special, concerns over hygiene and not wanting to risk getting a parking charge notice. Note: My family had a two year fight with a private parking company and we beat them in court, but nevertheless it was a horrible stressful experience that I don't want ever again. This was the only Robinsons pub we used during our holiday that used one of these notoriously bad parking companies. Smart Parking Limited on Trustpilot have a score of 1.1 out of 5. That says it all! I just hope we don't get a PCN.

Three people were served before me by the barman when I stood at the bar to purchase drinks. When I was eventually served and questioned him he replied that he worked from left to right in front of him. There are no signs to advise that this is how the bar is worked and has never been the case in the last few years that I have regularly been visiting the pub. Disappointed although the entertainment last night was superb.

We were here for tea last week and the food was lovely. Freya, our waitress could not have known that we had just lost our dad, but somehow she picked up on our sadness, and showed such sensitivity, making the experience really enjoyable. Thank you Freya, this establishment is lucky to have you!

Lovely evening in the Red Lion today, great Sunday roast. Service with a smile and great personality from Millie Jo and Luke. Went the extra mile for us to make sure we enjoyed the family meal. Quality service, definitely will be coming back.

Great staff, lovely venue. Good is ok but very expensive for what it is. Sunday roast for example had 3-4 pieces of veg, not even big pieces. Genuinely thought the rest was coming on a separate plate. Portions for other options were equally as small for the price and only slightly better than average taste and quality

This was a family meal to celebrate my sisters 70th birthday, I was also joined by my wife and son. This was our first time at the Red Lion and we had an excellent experience. At check in we were greeted by the manager who welcomed us and suggested a good seating arrangement for us. The premises were very clean with a good atmosphere. Food was excellent! I had the smoked salmon for starters followed by the Rib Eye steak (exquisite!), then the pecan pie for afters . All excellently presented and very tasty! Everyone in our party were of the same opinion , the food was excellent but more importantly the service was cheerful professional and we were looked after perfectly by our waitresses (Izzy and Tash) who went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and looked after us well. All in all a great night out and we shall be returning!

We have been here a number of times. Excellent service by Jodie's and Jess (who deserve a pay rise) and great food!

It was busy when we visited but the staff endeavoured to make our experience enjoyable

First time I’ve visited The Red Lion, but it won’t be the last. Good though the food was, the main thing that made it such a pleasant experience was the staff. From the check-in desk onwards we were treated courteously and politely. Jodie and Jess were particularly engaging and attentive. Although not listed, the black pudding bon-bon starter was terrific!

Not being a local, last living in Cheshire 34 years ago. We were visiting a sick fiend, looking for somewhere for a quick bit to eat, the Red Lion car park looked busy, normally a good sign. We both settled for the recommended fish with hot ciabatta bread, with chips, coleslaw and salad. The fish was overcooked in a very thick batter, very hard to cut. The ciabatta would have made excellent building bricks, the coleslaw was acceptable the two lettice leaves and small tomatoes did not rock my boat! on the way out I noticed a sign about putting your car reg number on a Tablet inside, missed on arrival after helping my disabled wife up the steps. So back in the Restaurant to register. It was under the hour, which I assume after a hour and the car reg number is not entered, you get fined? Why you should have to do this I could not see, other than visit the Pub. None of the staff checked while we were there if I had entered my registration number on the Tablet!!! The beer was very good, the service acceptable, although not fast.

Called in last minute today, a party of about 17of us after a day out and no booking (starving parents and kids and not from the area) the girls working just took it in their stride with a smile. Food was amazing (thank you chef) we didn’t wait long and all meals were correct. (We’ve booked other places before and they’ve still got our meal orders wrong) we all chose to sit outside so we were together and with the heaters it was lovely as it cooled down. Thank you for a lovely meal, you guys nailed it:-)

Been here many times, pub was very quiet last Saturday but the service was poor, had to fetch the waitress to take our order, both for the main course and the deserts. There were 9 of us, food was good except for my salad which came with an extra - a caterpillar! At least we were not charged for it! My main problem was the fact that we were charged £3 for an extra portion of custard as our son in law couldn’t decide between ice cream and custard, so asked for both, which brought a sticky toffee pudding in at £11! Considering the overall cost for 9 people - drinks, main courses and 6 deserts, I think the Red Lion could have stood the cost of a portion of custard, especially considering the non optional extra which came with the salad!

Came on Sunday with family. Pub is lovely, but we were shown to table. Weren’t handed any menus. Had to ask for them. Ordered a glass of wine, two cokes and one Diet Coke. They were brought to table and waitress didn’t know which was the diet one. Two of us ordered the black pudding Bon Bon for starters and the mushroom aranchini. They were all very nice. Mains were the Cajun chick burger, one gammon Sunday roast and two Sunday roasts with gammon and beef. The chicken burger was nice as was the gammon roast. The two gammon and beef roasts, gammon was very nice but both of found the beef to be very chewy. I had to take two mouthfuls out and left more or less one slice of the beef as just couldn’t eat it. Was all nice, just let down by poor quality beef.

Had a wonderful evening, everything from the moment we arrived was just perfect. Great atmosphere, amazing food and caring and attentive staff made the visit just perfect. My aunt who following an accident has limited taste sensations was delighted with her curry choice and how the chicken was cooked to perfection. It was a delight to see her enjoy a meal. Keep up the good work we will definately return.

Just had Sunday lunch which was very disappointing. Only veg was one small piece of broccoli and some red cabbage. Where were the carrots, parsnips etc?! No stuffing or applesauce, not even any salt on the table. It was all about the roast potatoes and Yorkshire pud which was like a piece of cardboard. For £17 it was anything but good value for money. Needless to say we won’t be returning. Incidentally you need to update your website which shows Sunday lunch for £13.95!

Lovely pub and loved where we were seated. Staff super very obliging. I ordered seafood linguine. My disappointment was I did not consider there was enough seafood in the dish which was soon exhausted and I was left just with.linguine pasta, which to me did not justify the cost. The sticky toffee pudding also was nice but insufficient toffee sauce.

Have just received a £60 parking charge. If there were signs to pay they were very discreet and not what you want when popping in for a quick drink. Only there for an hour.

Visited the Red Lion for the first time, enjoying a great meal but have now received a £60 parking fine. At no point did any of the staff advise that we needed to enter our car registration and when we rang the pub we were simply told that we needed to put our registration in an ipad, staff were not interested. The need to enter car registration was not obvious in the pub and not clearly apparent in the car park. Very, very disappointed on this.

The food was good and we left a generous tip. Today I have received a parking charge of £60! This looks like a scam and is no way to treat customers. I will not be going back

Not a lot of steak on the ciabatta & wife said gravy was a bit dodgy but apart from that ok.

Having a friend reunion today for drinks, served by a lovely young lady called Jess very officiant and polite, always smiling didn’t wait too long to receive drinks, bar area lovely and clean great for parking will definitely return .

Popped in for a drink on Father's Day and was very impressed with the choice of proper ales and lagers. Good atmosphere and although we didn't eat, we will be back for food soon because the plates that we saw looked and smelled amazing!

Delicious variety of food & courteous staff especially Shauna who helped with recommendations from the menu together with drink suggestions when we wanted to mix things up a bit. Nice spacious pub with a big car park which was ideal for our family lunch.

Called in for food with my daughter and grandson. Fish n Chips was the order of the day and very nice it was too. Had Jess a very smiley polite young lady to look after us. A nice couple of hours 🙂

My family and I fell very lucky to have such a fantastic pub local to us, great atmosphere and food is lovely, love that dogs are welcome in the bar area, but also a separate restaurant for those who prefer no dogs whilst eating. Service is always spot on, Great staff all round, they go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your visit, especially a lovely young lady called Shauna.

Had a lovely lunch with my mates and ordered the pate to start followed my the Gammon for main. The food was absolutely gorgeous and the the service was excellent especially Shauna who couldn't do enough for us! Great pub!

Called in spur of the moment for lunch with my husband. Was looked after by a lovely girl called Shauna who was friendly and pleasant. Makes a refreshing change to meet employees who are happy to talk to you and have a laugh. Was impressed with the food and thought it was good value for money !

Great food, great staff, great time. Me and my wife both being gluten free sometimes worry about eating out. I managed to catch one of the chefs called Dan at the bar. He was getting for himself being very hot day. He pleasantly went through the gluten free options with and my wife. We were put at ease by his knowledge of the menu. Had an amazing time thanks Dan

Absolutely incredible time at this pub, brought me and the family along and had a cracking time. The service was incredible from natashia who went above and beyond to help me + the gangfam out. Very friendly and accommodating staff who sorted everything out and we were all well fed and had a great time. Will be coming again

lovely food , great staff, enthralling atmosphere. popped in on a Saturday evening with my mum, Stacy , she’s a pain when trying to get to eat a meal so this was a rarity. our server “tasha” was a fabulous young lady who helped us out when picking a meal. would recommend this establishment to anybody looking for a quick much with fab staff and atmosphere 😃
