For a chain pub this one feels like it is at the heart of the community and not as generic as most. I was impressed by that little extra warmth and character that i wasnt expecting. The staff are very nice and i was unexpectedly charmed by the venue. If the chain was to concentrate on small towns which are lacking venues like this, then i believe their reputation would improve and community spirit would be forged. Well done red lion!!

Went for quiz night. Ryan was a fabulous host. Good food and drinks too. Quiz night is every Wednesday and some of the proceeds go to charity. Well worth a visit!

Got a table though busy. Ordered food. Onion rings were cold, hullumi fries hollow. Asked for the onion rings to be replaced. The onion rings returned were the same ones *we had one each before complaining). The returned ones had been refried.. rock hard and greasy as hell. Ordered pudding with ice cream. Arrived as pudding with iced cream melted completely.

The hygeine in this place is terrible, the seats are always disgustingly filthy and some look as if people just didn't bother getting up to go to the toilet.

Used to be our favourite ‘spoons. Haven’t been for a while and after this experience won’t be going back for a while. Ordered 3 breakfasts, only 2 came , waited , another 20 minutes for the 3rd to arrive. It was only after we complained about the missing meal that they realised…they said there had been a mix- up ? Bacon was burned, inedible, can’t believe it was put on the plate in that state. The 3rd meal, wasn’t what was ordered originally. Someone on another table seemed to be having similar issues and were complaining. Could make allowances if the place was busy, but it wasn’t, so no excuse.

This place is absolutely great. Well done to all the staff made me feel so welcome. Got to be one of the best spoons around.

Terrible service. Changed butter to a cheaper alternitive. Manager was called as issue with slot machine, unhelpful, terrible attitude. Unresolved issue, stated she would call the slot tech, she wanted my number to call with an update as she would not refund there and then, i did remind her of GDPR as she pulled her personal mobile phone to take note of my number. I will not be returning to this hole.

We both visited on April 19th, and overall we both were quite taken in with this wetherspoon establishment, we found the tables very clean, the staff efficient, the decor very tasteful in accordance to the building, the toilets were up to a good standard we both would visit again when next in the area.

Called in a couple of times while visiting family in the town as we do every year. The drinks were the usual good price. We went on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. What really stood out was the really small number of people in the pub. It has always been really busy at weekends before but on the Saturday there was 20 odd people in there and Sunday afternoon even less. There was no atmosphere whatsoever. Maybe it was just because the kids were going back to school that week but it would be a real shame for the town if they couldn’t justify keeping it open.

i have been waiting for 1 hour 26 mins to be served and when i asked a worker if they could serve me they replied, “silence worm”. then i told a member of staff that i’ve previously asked to be served and they replied “meh” the deputy manager sassed over to my table and was very rude and finally took my order. we politely asked if he was okay and he replied, “i was until i seen your bangs”. then walsed away. this is disgusting behaviour on deans behalf. ANOTHER let down was he sassed over again and chucked our plates on the table and wiggled his fingers in a dismis of manner and salsad away humming the ‘strictly come dancing’ theme tune swaying his hips in a inappropriate way this was disturbing to watch this act. BEWARE OF DEAN IF THE WHETHERSPOON

Family visit. Been a few times over the last few months Food was average but fair...then we found an invited guest in the salad... After a bit of a haggle we were eventually refunded our cost of the meals. The manager left all the face to face discussion to her staff which to be fair were excellent especially Emma. But the manager needs to be more visible and responsible and stopping hiding away

For a restaurant and pub that meant to take pride on the local history of the area it’s based, this pub is a joke. The JDweatherspoon website for the pub boasts about the history of the Bedlington terrier dog breed, with photos and artwork inside of the pub itself. Surprisingly though they don’t let dogs in, even if it’s a Bedlington terrier... so we had to leave. Very disappointed. So if you've come to this town with a dog, which isn’t uncommon, and then looking for a relaxing meal after a long walk, save yourself some time and don’t bother with this place.

Someone recommended this place for lunch and I’m not sure why, it was a very average place where the locals know one another. The food and service was also of average standard.

Called in a Wednesday for the government eat out scheme , no food on the menu all out of stock .Waited from 7pm till 9,30 still no food on app to order. When told to go to the bar and order nothing left on the menu .Manager gave free drink and vouchers.Cancelled a good restaurant to come here for awfull service, no pizzas or bread buns for burgers , very poor ,,ended up eating starters after the time we cancelled for at another restaurant, told by manger just one of those things, avoid

Ordered a bacon bap on a quiet Sunday morning. It was served between 2 slices of bread with no butter and there was no ketchup sachets available. The sandwich was dry and boring. Very disappointed as I have had these before and have not been disappointed.

First post Covid 19 visit for lunch was OK Feels like they are going through the motions with safety. At the door there is hand sanitizer and forms to fill in to record your visit. But inside it’s a bit of a free for all To the left of us was a large group of lads patently from different households who Wetherspoons have promised they would split up, but on our visit the young lass working there clearly knew them and may as well have sat on their lap she was so close She spent most of our visit flirting on from about 30 centimetres. The stairs to the toilets say keep to the left as well but given their narrowness there’s no hope of social distancing here. I’ve also walked past recently a few times in the evening and groups of 10 to 15 standing up huddled together is a common sight. I’m not too worried about Covid 19 so my reaction to the above is just irritated, not worried. But if you are worried, vulnerable, or live with someone who is, I’d steer well clear of this establishment. The clientele aren’t bothered.about the rules and the staff seemingly don’t really care either. Food usual standard-no better than you’d cook at home but low prices and no dishes when you’ve finished.

We've been here a few times in recent months.It's a bit quieter than other Whetherspoons in the area and also a lot cleaner. Very rarely are there dirty plates or glasses left on tables unlike the Morpeth pub.We've eaten there and while the menu is the same as other in the area the standard of food is higher in my opinion. The staff are friendlier too. So overall it's a cleaner option. Prices are still low.The only down side is car parking is limited. But there's a large free car park behind the main street

The place has an old world feel and they have a smorgasbord of drinks especially beer. The lavvies are posh and clean and we were lucky to have found a table for 4 on a Saturday night. Prices are OK. Only problem I found was that the air was stuffy inside.

Today I had the pleasure of providing the lLocal bingo players,from the red lion, there annual summer outing lunch,which was kindly fully funded by the red lion,what a wonderful gesture from the management,all guests were a pleasure and enjoyed there day, good kind people in this world supporting there community well done RED LION and a special thanks to the lovely EMMA who arranged it all and gave her free time to ensure, her party enjoyed themselves, before commencing her shift at THE RED LION xxx great community spirit

A very interesting building, good decor and very pleasant surroundings. Good, friendly efficient staff, an excellent choice of drinks and great value for money. Well worth a visit

First time here and a very pleasant visit. The food was excellent and well presented. We were served by a very pleasant lady and didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive. She also followed up to see if everything was ok. The place is quite nice inside and when we visited there was a nice ambience reflected by a varied mix of clientele. Overall an excellent visit. We had 3 quality meals and drinks for the unbelievable price of £21+.

Food is great for a Wetherspoons pub, staff are always friendly. Reasonably priced. Only thing that let's it down is each time I've visited there are teenagers loitering in the toilets upstairs. They maybe need to check up there on a more regular basis or keep an eye on who they have in the pub.

Always spend quite a bit of time in here when visiting family who live close by. Friendly locals and great service. Never had a problem in here and no reason to go anywhere else!

Spur of the moment decision to have a go at the pub quiz. Thoroughly enjoyable evening with a good mix of teams taking part and questions to give everyone a chance. Emma was great at organising everyone and looking forward to the next one.

We come here regularly, affordable and nice food. Pizzas are ok but when ordering without cheese the toppings are scarce. Sometimes the nann bread is hard when ordering a curry. But still a good place to eat and have drinks.

We come here every weekend. Service is superb. Breakfast is unreal value and cooked to perfection every time. 10/10 Our waitress today Mia bliss is a credit to the company. Never stops smiling and so helpful. Works non stop

Curry club on a Thursday is lovely. Korma for me and tikka masala for hubby, served with rice,popadoms and garlic nan, very tasty, had a drink with it, very busy but served quickly. Well recommended.

Called in for the full English breakfast. Really enjoyed it, was really tasty and it was lovely and hot. I like my cooked food served nice and hot and this was perfect!

Went there for lunch the other week the service was not that to bad just a few children running around the meal was not that bad apart from the microwaved pie which was hard around the edges we do not think we will be going back I the near future.

Called in on a Thursday for the curry club, place was packed but didn’t wait long to be served. Korma for me and tikka for hubby,both with rice,nan bread and 2 popadoms. Very hot,tasty and plenty of it. Worth the price. One thing the lighting is bad,very dark,especially at the back,near the fire exit door,needs brighter bulbs!

Call to bedlington with the wife every November to visit family for a few days. This is the only pub we use. The bar staff are really on the ball and no one is served out of turn, unlike most wetherspoons! The pub has a good atmosphere with a good mix of locals. Breakfast is good. Highly recommend the black pudding! Will be back next time.

I stayed in Bedlington three nights and ate here each evening with a friend. Brilliant food ...we shared three starters for a tenner ...great.... Had two mains and two pints, ALL for well under £15 each. The place was very busy, and rightly so, yet we always found a table, just, and were served both at the bar and with the food in good time. Three evenings and also one breakfast, all spot on. Thank you 'Spoons for the best value around.

Like all Weatherspoons you get what you pay for however the staff work really hard and are very friendly

Wetherspoons is normally a go to place for a simple breakfast, but this time it was horrendous eggs were undercooked.....I honestly don’t know how hard it is to cook an egg? It should be the first thing a proper chef can cook. Beans were warm.... don’t think I’ll be going back for the food.

Visited this Wetherspoon pub yesterday with my partner. The weather was bad and the pub was freezing inside. The car park at the rear was difficult to get in and out of. The food was typical Wetherspoon fare. Will avoid on a cold day. Although it was steak day we had wraps to eat with chips which was quite good.

This pub is part of the Weatherspoon chain and has a regular local clientele. Typical Weatherspoon menu and range of beers. Pleasant enough bar though in some areas it’s a bit ‘cold’ atmosphere wise. Friendly staff and locals. Very limited car parking at rear.

I must admit I wasn't hopeful about having a meal at a weatherspoons but I had fish and chips today and I was really impressed. The cod was really fresh tasting and the batter was crispy, the chips were fine for the price, the mushy peas looked like they'd been tipped from a microwave carton but tasted nice . The two girls who served us behind the bar and waitress service were helpful and friendly, I wouldn't hesitate to go again

You can't beat the value of a Wetherspoons for a curry and a drink on a Thursday night. Chicken korma , rice . poppadoms and nan bread with a glass of wine £6.95

Always call in here when visiting family. Always a nice atmosphere and plenty of staff behind the bar. Never get asked ‘who’s next’? Which is unusual for a wetherspoons! Had a great Saturday afternoon with friends and family and called in for breakfast on Sunday morning. 3 breakfasts with the best black pudding I’ve ever tasted for 12 quid is fantastic value.

My partner and I visited this pub last Friday. As it was half term it was full of families and kids, a time to avoid. The food was ok as Wetherspoon usually is. Friday is fish and chips day which is one of the better deals. One problem with Wetherspoon is the toilets are usually upstairs. This is no exception. Otherwise the place is what you would expect. Cheap and cheerful.

Total inedible chicken breast burger for my son! MDF comes to mind, told this to waitress who said she would tell boss. No reply form waitress or boss & still charged for dessert!! when Son asked for a coke WITHOUT A PINT of ice cubes she was too busy chatting to her colleague to take any notice!! My salad was fine with baked potato. They weren't exactly rushed off their feet to get chicken so wrong!!! Said they'd replace it but I had finished mine by this time..

Popped in after a drive the other day, service was quick and food was nice. I had fish and chips and she had topped chips, both were very nice.

Been a few times but unfortunately this wasn't the best experience, my partner had the 14oz Aberdeen Angus rump steak, it's was cooked to perfection but the cut of meat was horrendous, full of fatty grizzle that after cutting it out would have had at least half left. I had the mix grill and every meat was burned from the grill with probably left over grease from the previous food, service was impeccable, sausage its usual best and chips are chips, we will be back tho, hoping this was a one off

My wife and I visited the Red Lion and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our visit, the booth we choose was clean and it displayed a good selection of menus, service at the bar was quick and professional and the meals arrived reasonably quickly. The chicken meal deal was without question fantastic value for money and the Taylors was a really good pint to enjoy the meal with. This pub is definitely worth a visit and make sure you check their website to see what the daily meal deal is, steak, curry, chicken or fish and each comes with a drink.

Called in to have a cooked breakfast and yet again it was lovely. Very tasty,added the black pudding this time,made a nice change. Lovely to sit at the window seats and watch the world go by in the sunshine. Value for money,nice staff.

3 of us called in for breakfast on a Monday morning. All had a cooked breakfast, very pleased with it. Hot,very tasty and lots of it. The assistant manager who brought it over was very nice, chatty,with a beaming smile. Brightened up our Monday, thank you.

The pub having now been opened for a few years is in need of a refurbishment. The tables are all chipped, the chair coverings are all stained and dirty.Having said that though it's not just the furniture that needs sorting.In my opinion the staff here at this pub need to be sent on a course to be taught some proper customer service skills. It would be unfair to tar all the staff with the same brush because there is one young girl who says to every customer 'Thank you - enjoy' but in particular there are certain 'Team Leaders' and 'Duty Managers' who wouldn't know good manners even if it came in a pump or bottle. To be greeted by one of these such members of staff with, if you are lucky, 'what can I get you?' and no word of thanks at the end of the service, for me is just bad mannered. They obviously don't enjoy their job because I've yet to see them crack a smile unless its to each other behind the bar or when they are camped out in the kichen area instead of serving customers clearly stood at the bar waiting to be served. In a customer facing role good manners is a definite must have and if you don't have them then perhaps that type of job is not for you.In regards to the state of the place I witnessed one of the duty managers who was serving food step over a menu and dirty napkin that had fallen on the floor not once but a number of times and made no attempt to pick them up.The tables are often left littered with glasses and not wiped clean so when you go to sit at one you have to chase a member of staff around the pub to ask them if they could clear the table an wipe it down.I think what is needed is a good 'experienced' manager per shift to oversee the whole job and keep the staff on their toes and not a team of young inexperienced 'Team Leaders' who presumably have been made leaders because they are there to set an example, because from my experiences the young lady I mentioned earlier sets a better example of good customer service then any of her superiors.

When Wetherspoon took over this pub they gave it a whole new lease of life, sadly that's over now, not a lot of effort from the staff or management to enhance the experience. Better pubs in the area.

Perfect hangover breakfast with my husband. He had the large one I had the traditional. Very nice, as usual.

Called in here for the curry club night, we were not disappointed. Hubby had the tikka, I had the korma, rice,nan bread and popadoms came with it. Very tasty and a good sized portion. Nice atmosphere here too.

We really like the decor of this Wetherspoons establishment and have been there on previous occasions - However I have to say my wife & I felt a level of disappointment on this occasion. As per the title it was "Fish Friday" and that's what we both selected. Unfortunately the quality of our meals were not up to the usual standard that we have experienced at other Wethersoons locations. It seemed to us that the Fish had been kept "warm" in readiness for customers ordering that particular meal. We did express our disappointment and we were given an apology but as I say it was disappointing. The other "bone of contention" is as I have mobility issues I need to use the disabled toilet. I was rather shocked to find that when I was sitting doing what a man has to do somebody else opened the door and started to walk in (the lock was in the fully locked position) I checked later and red was indeed fully visible from the outside but the person who came in said he had sight difficulties and did not appreciate that I was inside! I reported this to the management but I have to say there is a major level of concern as it was not the first time this had happened at this venue.

Went here for a few drinks before heading into town. It was busy but had plenty of places to sit down - drinks are decent and the food looked great (I didn't try anything.)

This pub has been our local for years a place to meet up with family and friends. It is clean and tidy .BUT and its a big BUT they hate to put the heating on .To day first of November and again we had to ask for the heating to be put on .We were not the only customers to complain about the cold but the staff seem reluctant to put the heating on .This has been an ongoing issue for years .Please please keep us warm this winter .

Having visited the Red Lion several times for their famous "Club" nights I can say it is a typical Wetherspoons in as much as it's cheap and cheerful food with a decent pint to wash it down. The Lion can get really busy and at times it may be difficult to find a table, however, the turnover is such that by the time you buy your drink there will be somewhere to sit!

Okay food but you don't get much chips, reasonable service but nothing special at all. Good selection of alcohol though.

Steak and drink represented very good value for money, if I any fault it would be that the steak wasn't medium, as requested, but at under £7 including drink I didn't feel I'd paid enough to complain, if the steak had been "normal" restaurant price I would have.

As a family we have again been to our local Weatherspoons, it's fine for a cheap meal ( curry night) but it doesn't really appeal as a place to enjoy good food. The beer selection is good but the service poor. I guess it depends on what you want if it's a filling station ok go for it!

Visited the red lion this morning ..10am and quite busy already ..spacious pub/restaurant ..varied menu to meet special dietary needs ..I had royale breakfast ..two poached eggs ,on salmon ,watercress on two muffins,hollandaise sauce ..it was lovely ..husband had large traditional breakfast which for the amount of food you get,is very good price ..the bread they use is fresh and taste good .. They also have excellent ,clean baby changing facilities on ground floor ..the young bar man was friendly ..only critism ,they need more staff to check on their customers to make sure they are happy and to clear tables ..

It's a weatherspoons with all the usual weatherspoons pro's & con's - cheap, varied ales, food, breakfasts alongside the local alcoholics.

Went here on Tuesday with my brother after his appointment with local nurse-excellent breakfast, very reasonably priced and cooked to perfection. Refills on coffee a bonus too ! The lady who served us was pleasant and polite, dark hair, didn't get her name but she was friendly and nice. Nice pub inside and little beer garden to rear. Would certainly go again if in the area. Top marks !

Visited the Red Lion on many occasions, often for a meal but sometimes just for coffee. Usual Wetherspoon's menu but prices often cheaper than City Centre establishments. Not the biggest place and therefore can get very busy during the evening but often pretty quiet and relaxing during the day. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

This is a very friendly pub with an excellent choice of food for all tastes. The service is first class and the staff are very good at what they do. Customer relations are first class.

I came to the Red Lion today with colleagues. I order the 8oz sirloin steak for £9.90, which came with a free drink. At 12pm on a Thursday, the place was fairly quiet, with only a few patrons sitting in, mainly the elderly or sixth formers from the nearby school.It took around 15 minutes to get the meals, and they came swiftly, with the drinks arriving much earlier than the meals. It was very nice the meal, the steak cooked to how I like it, well done, and the chips and peas were good too. I probably make more future trips here in the near future when the need takes it, but it's not unique in terms of what you would expect of a Wetherspoons. It's one distinct feature is that it offers simple food in a town that isn't bustling with food outlets that aren't fish and chip shops.

I review Wetherspoons pubs, based on what they are, compared to other ones. Quite liked this one, only the second time we have been in, whist visiting my parents. We called in for some food and drinks on a saturday evening, and the place was packed, and rather loud. We managed to find a seat near the back, and had a drink. then on going back to bar noticed 2 seats being made available in front end, the booth type seats we liked, and managed to get them. Sat there had meals, and during the evening the place started queiting down, as large groups left.Food and drink is the usual Weterspoons standard, service, was ok, staff friendly, the pub itself lacked a bit of character and I really like reading on the history of the building, but found little evidence. Overall, not too bad of an evening.

I visited this wetherspoons on Saturday 23rd April, I opted for a well done sirloin steak, which was cooked perfectly! I couldn't fault the food or the quick service at the bar, I was served by a manager Daniel who was very chatty and friendly! After my meal I decided to go for the chocolate sundae, this time I was served by Chelsea who was wearing a team leader badge, who again, was very friendly! The pub was nice and clean and had a good atmosphere, I will definitely be returning here and hope to see the same friendly faces again

Called in about 9-00 on Saturday for a cooked breakfast. As usual it was lovely, bacon,sausage,fried egg,mushroom,tomato,hash browns and beans, plus 2 slices of poppyseed toast. Plenty of everything, only thing let it down, the beans were just warm! Usually the waitress comes over and asks if everything is ok but she was really busy so didn't come back. Won't put us off, will be back soon :-)

Went for a spot of lunch and the girl doing the tables was working at the pace of a snail and using 3 tables - asked if we could sit at a table if she tidied it up and she said yes. She cleared but never wiped it . The place was dirty and the thought of eating anything there was haunting! We decided to leave and go elsewhere - it wasn't even that busy so no excuse really, it should have been spotless and the service should be great

Went to order my food with friends and the lady (emma) had horrendous customer service. Very unpolite towards us her attuide was disgraceful, I think when people work with people and costumers they should be polite and pleasant towards costumers in this case we would like a reply towards our complaint because I am very unhappy with my customer service. Also we ordered separately but same stable and staff knew this, still brought my friends food out before the other 2 which made her food freezing cold it's polite to bring everyone's food together.

Iv tried a few times to pop in for lunch with an elderly relative here but on all occasions we have not been able to park, there is a few (not many!) parking spaces around the back and maybes one allocated for disabled use. Last week we tried again when passing the place and found the entire parking area blocked with a large van. My relative doesn't need a wheel chair but would definitely struggle to walk the distant we would have to park away from the pub, also they definitely could not manage the very steep step at the front of the pub. The food here is average, nothing special, in my opinion there is nicer, cleaner places to eat in the area... places that are more accommodating if u need disabled access. But that's just my opinion, I have friends who love eating and drinkin here but personally I will be avoiding

I have been to this pub a few times, not quite as often recently but I have always found the food to be acceptable (although it has declined in standard from what it used to be) but I would use it more to come for a few drinks on a Saturday night before moving elsewhere than come for a meal. It used to b nice and clean but unfortunate the hygiene and cleanliness also appears to have declined... rapidly. I often take my elderly aunt out and she likes to try different places for a cup of tea and breakfast, a few times in the past I have tried to bring her here and the very small car park at the back of the pub (if it can even b called a car park) is always full and although there is possibly one space allocated for disabled parking it always seems to b taken by what appears to be non disabled users. So yesterday we were passing and thought we would give it ago only to find the whole car park blocked off by a large van. My aunt does not need a wheel chair but could not manage to walk the distance u have to park away from the pub and also she could not mange the very steep step at the front of this pub. So this has put me off ever returning to this pub for food or drink with or without anyone with disabled requirements. There is much nicer, cleaner places to eat in this area
