Visited this lovely country pub following recommendations from neighbours. The menu is small but full of home made dishes. As a group of 4 we enjoyed chicken and Stilton pie and vegetables, gammon, sweetcorn, chips and pineapple, chilli con carne and a really meaty pork chop, chips and peas. Really good home cooked food so much better than the normal pub grub. It also means the menu changes regularly. Sensibly priced making eating out a pleasure. Desserts just had to be tried. The whisky bread and butter pudding was suitably named and the apple crumble with custard was a winner too. The Sunday roast advertised at £9.30 will have to be tried another weekend. Delicious home cooked food is always so much better than bought in dishes. We praised the chef and June for a lovely warm welcome and a great meal.

After a trip to Shawbury, we decided to detore and have lunch at the pub. Most disappointed to find it closed in spite of all the signs saying open and food served all day. Won't bother again.

Sunday lunch till 4pm which wasn't that good we were told by some customers, and the only thing available was Tapas which was bread bread and bread, or a bap. Such a shame in a lovely ambient pub real let down.

Pre-booked an early evening meal @ The Red Lion, Wistanswick and was not disappointed. Pretty little pub with good beer and great food. The landlady and her husband could not have been more friendly or helpful. Both my wife's and my meal cooked to perfection. Lovely curry and beautifully cooked salmon with veg from the pub garden. Excellent service, great prices; will come again - thank you.

Visited the red lion in market Drayton yesterday with some close friends, the welcome and covid precautions were spot on. The food, we all had the pie with vegetables, was well cooked and presented and a nice generous portion size. Like most establishments the menu is limited which i personally like as it seems the time from order to receiving is reduced. All in all highly recommended and a big well done to the staff. As an aside this pub also has its own brewery on site with some rather nice beers.

Good honest food. The Lion is a proper village pub with all the quirks. Always welcoming with a fabulous quiz night on a Monday.

In our opinion, the outside doesn't do justice to the inside. This is a very large pub with a great interior. We visited it 10th September 2019. Dog friendly with pleasant and friendly staff. But the inside is amazing - very different to a lot of pubs. One of the best meals I have ever had! - the Herb Crusted Hake Fillet. I will be talking about this meal for ages. My Wife and our friends also highly rated their meals.

We visited the Red Lion for Sunday lunch after a recommendation from friends, and we weren’t disappointed. Good, simple, home cooked food arrived in a timely manner and the landlady was very pleasant. Servings were generous with six different vegetables, alongside boiled and roast potatoes and plenty of meat. The vegetables were al dente and the meat tender and juicy. Dessert had to be sampled due to the attractive choice of traditional puds, and they were delicious. Overall a very reasonably priced, but extremely tasty Sunday lunch, which will see us visiting again.

We booked a table for 18 people for 3pm today having been a regular at the red lion. However on this occasion we were bitterly disappointed. There was no organisation on our arrival and on asking at the bar we were advised that somebody would come to us. After waiting for fifteen minutes we went to the bar and decided to order our meals separately at the bar as this appeared to be the quicker option. Eventually we went up to the food counter for our carvery and there wasn't enough meat left to feed 18 of us and the vegetables were all cold! After complaining we all decided to leave and get together at home and pick up a fish and chip take away! The level of service at the see lion was appalling. When we asked speak to the manager we were told she was upstairs but unavailable. We felt very sorry for the young staff left in charge who were less apologetic but were helpless in light of their management's greed to accept a booking for 18 people which they were not equipped to provide for! The management team should be highlighted for their inefficient leadership and cowardice in not making themselves available today to try and resolve this very disappointing event. We will certainly not be recommending the see lion to friends and family in the future!

The brewery tap of the new Joules brewery, an immaculate building with 3 resident and one guest real ale in tip top condition, served by a wonderful staff. The best selection of gins, 11 on my count, numerous single malts, a small but excellent menu and a Sunday lunch carvery of unutterable joy. All presided over by the glorious landlady, Linda. Oh yes, dog friendly.

Great traditional inn atmosphere but watch your step - or rather the stone steps and floor within this fine restaurant. Even before a drink I fell down two steps onto a very hard floor. My fault and nothing suffered more than a huge bruise on a very sore knee! We asked for quick service as we were due at a school function in just over 1 hour - and it was both fast and friendly. The food was hot and of very good value - my roasted pepper was delicious and spicy - I'm not a "veggie". Our grandchildren ate from a comprehensive children's menu and both "cleaned" their plates. Well done to all concerned!

Llamado en un lugar de almuerzo. Acogedor cerveza casera y buena (oveja negra).

Called in on the way through for a beer, I was very disappointed, the pale ale was dreadful, the language in the bar was foul and the gents toilets were disgusting, they were flooded and the smell was unbearable, in fact I would go as far as to say that they are possibly the worst I have ever been in. Not a pleasant experience and a pub to be avoided!

We called here for lunch on Sunday to celebrate the birthday of a family member. We are quite local so had been a number of times before, and have always been quite happy with the food and service. In fact I went for tea here one evening a few weeks ago and the experience was markedly better....perhaps a la carte is the way to go. However on this occasion we had the carvery which again we remembered fondly, although have not eaten it here for about a year or so. The whole carvery experience has diminished - in size and flavour, although it has increased in one respect - the price!! The choices were turkey or pork - I went for pork which was overcooked and fairly tasteless, as was the apple sauce that accompanied it which had virtually no sweetness whatsoever. There were no Yorkshire puddings on offer at the time we went up, although they did materialise later on - I thought it was very poor that the chef did not mention they were missing and encourage us to come back and get one later, or better bring them to our table. I then was rationed 2 roast potatoes and helped myself to stuffing - also tasteless unfortunately. The accompanying vegetables were - boiled potatoes (can't do too much to ruin those), carrots and peas (hunt the carrot), cabbage and bacon - again no TASTE?! - can't understand why unless the chef is a heavy smoker and can't taste his food?, and green beans, which were a little off putting as new ones (bright green and alive-looking) had been poured on top of old ones (dark green, watery and poorly-looking!). There was also cauliflower cheese but the sauce tasted like bechamel with little cheese and the cauliflower was overcooked. It may sound petty, but even the serving arrangements were stingy - there were two spoons between 4 sets of veg - what if you don't want a creamy sauce on your peas, or if you're vegetarian so don't want to use the spoon that's been in the bacon? And the lids from the metal trays were removed by the staff when it got busier - and placed ON THE FLOOR!! I didn't really think about it at the time but that can't meet the most basic of hygiene regulations. A member of the family also pointed out how dangerously close the vat of gravy was to a table that children were eating at.So that's the food - how about the service? Pleasant, friendly, knowledgable about the beer - but not attentive...a child in our party spilled his drink (standard), and we had to ask for something to clean it up with. Good staff would have noticed and helped without being asked. Similarly, there was little control over what was being ordered from each table - there were 6 adults on our table and 2 children and the first stab at the bill had 9 two course carvery charges! There was a lack of obvious arrangement for the children - was there a children's price? Don't know, wasn't on the menu...again, should have been explained. Perhaps they should adopt a token system so they can keep track of how many meals they are serving?I wouldn't have complained as we were being taken out by a family member, but I could see they were disappointed with the experience as well, which when the family can only rarely get together it's a shame.Overall I was quite surprised and disappointed by my experience and although the bill was adjusted following our queries, I don't feel as though this time we got value for money.

We have eaten here regularly for many years and have always been happy with the food. We went a couple of weeks ago and it really has gone downhill. Waited a long time for the worst steak we've ever had. Staff agreed to change the meal which never arrived. Think we need to find a New local.

Visited here for Xmas type lunch with friends last week. It was busy but not heaving. We waited a long time for our meal but wish we hadn't bothered. When it eventually came it was cold & the turkey was the cheap horrible plastic stuff. Everything looked and tasted bland. Dessert was better but I certainly won't be eating here again in a hurry

The food has gone downhill drastically, I was with a party of 8 and at least 5 of us were completely dissatisfied with our meals some were inedible and went home without eating. Used to go here a lot but definitely wouldn't eat here again, not until they pull their socks up and start serving decent food again!

After reading the previous reviews we decided to call for lunch. We must have stopped at a different place than previous customers. We were the only ones in and were met by a pleasant landlady. The decor is average at best but the food leaves a lot to be desired. Lamb chops - thin but OK and Tinned peas - yuk... and mint sauce that was all vinegar and a fine dusting of mint.To be fair the Gammon was tender and the hand cut chips tasted as if they were cooked yesterday and reheated today. Won't be calling anytime soon...

The Red Lion is a deservedly popular Traditional pub with a nice but small outdoor seating area. The rear car park is large which is a bonus for a town pub. Whilst children are welcome in the restaurant no children portions are available during evening. It may be that children are catered for earlier in the day. My large slab of lasagne was not very tasty and relied on flavour from cheddar cheese (??) in the topping sauce. The nicely crisp mixed salad was drowned in balsamic vinegar which I happen to dislike so maybe customers should be asked if they want a dressed salad beforehand. The garlic bread was just warm and a bit doughy. My companions commented that the fish and chips were nicely cooked with generous pot of tartare sauce. The nachos starters were as good as ever. The Sauvignon Blanc wine was nicely chilled but served in a glass with marks around the rim. Beers are excellent and the brewery tour is a must and very informative.I will be visiting again but it may not be to eat.

Visited the Red Lion with some friends for chat and meal. We were initially disappointed that we had gone there. But after the meal our opinions had changed. It's a traditional old sort of pub, bit dark inside, there is quite a lot of parking but difficult to get in and out from the Fakenham road. I had to change the chair I was sitting on as the seat pad was very grubby We asked for water with our meal, and the jug had water marks all round the spout and top. The cutlery was wrapped in serviettes which were soggy due to them being wrapped wet. The meal was slightly more expensive than say the Oaks or The Cock next door. ...........But the service was very good and fast, the girls very pleasant even when we moaned about the jug. I had vegetarian which was hot, tasty and plentiful. My friends chicken was a nice chunk of breast, the meals all looked very good and plentiful for us.We arrived at 6pm (wednesday) and by 7pm the place was pretty busy. Most were enjoying the carvery, which looked very good, with green veg! We all agreed that it looked very good value for £5.25 mon - sat and extra on Sunday. So we are going back & next time I want to try the vegetarian roast.

I must echo the views of others. A really lovely restaurant spoiled by sparrows landing on the the table where cakes are being cut and on uncleared tables. Very unhygienic - there must be a way to stop them coming into the tearooms. Never encountered it anywhere else. Health and safety would have a field day!
