First time visit. My wife's birthday (don't ask!) family meal, 7 adults, 3 children. Very pleasant country pub, with a high quality function room, and pleasant garden. Staff friendly and efficient, good service. It's difficult to judge the quality of all the cooking based solely on a carvery, the meat (choice of 3, bit of each if you like) was tasty and warm, excellent range of veg, homemade Yorkshires, good , hot gravy. Who could ask for more! Noted that the manager was well organised, with each table taken to the carvery room, so that here were no long queues, which can be annoying. A few of us had dessert which they enjoyed and the kids of course loved ice cream. A kind gesture was that at the end of the meal my wife was presented with a special dessert platter with Happy Birthday written in fruit sauce. A nice touch. Previous reviews said it was difficult to find- NOT SO! Good signage off the A52 and then clear directions in t.he village

Treated to a surprise renewing of wedding vows at this terrific location, the staff were organised and friendly, the room for the event was immaculate and beautifully arranged. The meal was plentiful and tasty with great table service, the sticky toffee pudding and custard hot was just awesome, thank you for making a whole bunch of people's Sunday really special.

I decided to come here by bike from the very positive TripAdvisor reviews. It is certainly a hidden gem as it is not easy to find and discrete in signage when you have found it.On a Thursday lunchtime it was very quiet. Disappointing for the pub but they were happy to serve us. Good range of traditional pub food well cooked and presented. Good local ale on draught and friendly service.Pleased to have visited.

We visited on a sunny Saturday evening . We had a table in the garden as it was a beautiful evening. Laura was our server and was excellent in providing information into the ingredients used for the dishes when asked a few questions due to dietary needs. There were 4 in our party and all enjoyed their choices, for starters- garlic mushrooms and liver parfait , mains- scampy and pies followed by delicious desserts of sticky toffee pudding, chocolate fudge cake, chocolate brownie and lemon meringue pie. Decadence was the draft real ale on tap which the men enjoyed...All the staff were friendly and welcoming and we would not hesitate in visiting again to such a beautiful quaint village pub in a stunning location. Thank you to all at the red lion Newton!

Lovely pub unfortunately I can’t say the same about the food.We had two liver parfaits and one white bait. That was absolutely cremated!! It was sent back. Then the next one was passable. The mains,Battered haddock and chips,Scampi and chips,Then sirloin steak and chips. The haddock and chips was fine. The scampi was burnt. The chips tasted like they had been cooked with the scampi. The steak was like a bit of leather. We sat outside and we were talking and at 7 o’clock the neighbour decided to cut his grass.Flies flying everywhere and you couldn’t hear anyone speak.NEVER AGAIN!!!

Unfortunately this is our second poor visit. We were trying to give the young couple a chance but let down again. The Cons -Very limited childrens drink choices. J2o or pineapple juice.Practically raw onions on the sausage and mash which was swimming in gravy. ( Not supplied in a gravy boat).Batter on the child's fish fingers and the onion rings were awful, really soggy and limp. Salt all over chips on the childrens option. Salt should be optional especially for little ones. Barely any toilet roll and the toilet roll holder was loose. It's such a shame as the scenery and grounds are lovely and it could do so well.

Went to The Red Lion to celebrate my mum and dad-in-law’s Golden Wedding Anniversary last night. We were blown away with the wonderfully friendly and attentive service from Laura and all of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble, and they genuinely wanted to make the evening as special as possible. Felt very Covid-safe - everything done to ensure we felt safe without making us feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. Food was delicious! Very generous portions of home-cooked fresh food. Decided to visit Grantham to drop off a couple of watches to be repaired and the shop was shut. But we had already decided to come here for lunch. Glad we did! Very friendly staff, excellent food and all the necessary measures in place. I love pies and this was a very close second to my favourite at the Snipe in Sutton. The squeeze had lasagne but brought Larry lightweight along, but to be honest, the plates were stacked. Did think was a little pricey at first, but on reflection, it was very worth it! Will definitely be revisiting in the future. The beer was good too.

The food was good. But there was loud music coming from the kitchen which wasn’t pleasant as we were sitting outside. In the current climate I had to return a glass as it had lipstick on it. The waitress did not distance herself nor did she have any kind of face masks or visor on When the meal was served she did not wear gloves. We only saw the hand sanitiser on the way out only 1 bottle. I work in the NHS. We will not be returning any time soon as I do not think they have enough precautions in place

We visited The Red Lion for their Sunday carvery. I called to book a table in advance, and advised I am gluten-free. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, in fact I have never felt so accommodated at a carvery being gluten free! I think it was the first gluten free yorkshire pudding I have had in a pub, and it was delicious. Even with the Coid19 Restrictions, you felt safe and looked after with the prevention measures being obvious and abided by, both by the staff and customers. Log fire burning so if cold get that side - other side of table the rest of our party were cold as only a curtain separates the kitchen from the dining room.Must have had the kitchen door open as heck of a draft and people that side shaking with cold and put coats on. we did not find it very good value for money - main meal portions very small and so was the dessert at £6.50.

Visited this lovely little pub for the second time in a week last night for a 21st birthday party. We travelled down to Lincolnshire last week for a family visit and birthday party. First visit was for Sunday lunch. On entering we were greeted by friendly staff who could not do enough to make us feel welcome, the pub itself was a bit warm for me but inviting with a real fire. The Carvery on Sunday really was a treat. Food in abundance, great range and very tasty indeed. The pub Was very busy but we didn’t feel it was over crowded. Party last night... wow! The venue room looked amazing, the owners really did a great job all the guests commented all night how nice it looked. Really nice space, buffet was cracking , nice variety. The wife was in her happy place with the range of gins on offer, she especially enjoyed the local gins they had nice to have something different. Birthday girl and family had an amazing time. Well worth the trip for us to join in the celebrations.

Took a punt on walking in without a booking for Sunday lunch.Food was fine, nothing fantastic but several noisy tables full of babies crying so we ended up moving to the family area in the other side of the pub which was empty! Whilst we waited we were given pawns and pork balls whcih were delicious and served by happy young ladies who glided effortlessly past numerous obstacles. When we entered the function room it was tastefully decorated and someone had obviously taken a lot of trouble to make sure it looked perfect. The tables were large with plenty of room on and between. The courses were served quickly and were beautifully presented more importantly very tasty .There was a good selection of vegetables and the Turkey we had was plentiful tasted lovely.we were then offered a sorbet to cleanse the pallet ,a nice touch we thought, before the desert which was also excellent.Everything went like magic no long waits or cold food. ,At least twice we were asked if everything was okay and if we needed more drinks,We finished with tea and coffee which was also well presented and of good quality. This is the first time I have ever been out to eat on Christmas day but it certainly wont be the last.Congratulations everything went without a hitch and I didnt hear one person complain .lt certainly was a resounding success .our party of 6 were all extremely happy so well done

When we arrived we had a little dog growling at our feets as we walked in, after getting our drinks we sat down at our table with the menu. The dog was running around the restaurant area going around our legs. After around waiting 15 minutes for someone to take our order we were told that both choices we went for (Pie and Fish and Chips) were not available, why wasn't we told this when they handed us the menu. Visited The Red Lion yesterday to meet family for lunch. We were a group of 5 we didn't book ( never thought) the lady who greeted us when we arrived was very accommodating, they were busy but we were offered drinks and shown to a table without a huge wait. Overall I have to say the food was a really good standard even my usually fussy mum had nothing but praise for her meal. It was tasty, very well presented and you could tell it was freshly prepared. The staff were attentive but not over powering which was nice as I hate being interrupted when I’m trying to eat. We were shown the dessert menu and we chose the pecan pie which was delicious and lemon meringue which my wife and mother enjoyed, huge portions was a struggle to finish. The place has undergone some changes since our last visit here over a year ago, it has a pleasant relaxed atmosphere and seems to have had new life breathed into it. We were overall pleasantly surprised and will be making another trip soon I’m sure.

We are local but hadn't been here since it changed hands earlier this year. A last minute decision to eat out on a Saturday night brought us here and we are so pleased it did. 5 of us - including 3 kids, all felt immediately welcomed. We already knew the location and facilities were good from previous visits but even before the food arrived we'd all commented on the warm atmosphere and noticed the improved decor. Great food followed - lovely chunky chips with home made burgers stacked high with bacon and cheese. Delicious scampi and a great kids meal. All with lovely presentation and great service. Middle daughter raved about the home made honeycomb cheesecake and youngest was thrilled to get strawberries in her ice cream. Friendly staff couldn't do enough and the chef patron came out to check our meals and have a chat. Will definitely be going back, a little gem of a place. All very reasonably priced too. Thank you all for a fab evening.

What a great English country pub highly recommended.Had a very busy day with our clients and on the way back felt hungry had a look on trip advisor saw the red lion was number 1 so as passing decided to call in. My only concern was reading the previous review about it was cold and menu! All I can say is”Really?” We we’re welcomed by the owner taken to our table the place was very warm and the fire was so welcoming. The choice of food was great and there was a huge selection off specials of the day. As my guests were wine drinkers I was concerned about choices but there was no need the menu was comprehensive and the Red was served at room temperature And the white beautifully chilled, they were very merry when we left. We finished our meal with the best rhubarb crumble I have ever tasted and lemon meringue, followed by the cheese board. The only comment I have is no wonder this is number one in the area we were treated like royalty, nothing was to much trouble, great ambience and the best food, and plenty off it I have had for sometime! Will be back!

I would highly recommend this village pub great for families we will 100% be returning.

Not been for year or two so thought would give it a try again but wished we hadn’t! Food cold and not presented very well. Owners children running around table. No one else eating there. Will not be returning! Such a shame as this used to be a great place to go many years ago.

We were at this restaurant before they changed hands and it was good but I must admit, I trully enjoyed the carvery they provide now. We went there for mother's day and it was a lovely surprise because I wanted to go there because I remembered it from the first time we went (before it had changed hands) and was even more surprised than I thought I would be. There is quite a good variety served as a carvery.

Lovely meal, had steak which included salad, coleslaw, onion rings, peas , mushrooms and the chips were beautifully cooked (triple) , one of the nicest steaks i have had, and it was £13.99 which i thought was very reasonable for a a country pub for what you got, onion rings were slightly overcooked and were very thin could do with being thicker and not cooked as long they were homemade but rest was perfectly cooked

Although we had booked a table for 13.00hrs (arrived 12.55hrs) we waited over an hour for our meal which was only mediocre, the prawn sauce tasted like a packet mix. The room wasn’t warm. The young waitresses were very helpful & friendly, thankfully. We were very disappointed ☹️

We don’t usually go out for Sunday lunch as we think that most restaurants don’t produce one as good as at home but we were pleasantly surprised. As a family of five we enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch carvery. Well cooked meat, albeit a little dry, with a good selection of vegetables with all the condiments followed by delicious desserts. Service was warm and very welcoming.

Very welcoming, except My youngest was afraid of the little dog wandering around the bar and restaurant area at the start. Roast meat was lovely however the veg wasn't hot off the carvery so by time we sat with plates it was cold. Price was a couple of pounds more than other local pubs Sunday roast. Child's food is way to expensive especially for a portion of a five yr old and my nan was charged for adult price even though she only had same as a child portion. Staff were polite and attentive.

We visited on a friday lunchtime, there was no one else in and we were very disappointed with the food. The newspaper headlines this week are about too much salt in our food and how many people are dying from it.Two of us had burger and chips, the chips came already salted but we didnt know so I ruined mine by putting more on and mum who doesnt normally have salt couldn't eat them. Also the burger was much too salty. The waitress wasn't very impressed when we told her but offered to get more chips but wouldnt do anything about the burger. The prices were expensive for the quality just a plain burger in a hard roll, extra money for cheese or bacon. We were not offered a reduction and will not be returning. Also it should state on the menu that the chips come with salt on,it's very unusual, even in the fish and chip shop they ask if you want salt on .

Yet again The Red Lion surpassed our expectations. We brought our family, including my food and wine loving parents. They went above and beyond, by allowing us to eat later than normal opening times, and not chasing us out. Great personnal service and great food and drink as always. Thank you

I find this a difficult review to write having known this pub in its heyday in 1970s when I was local. I have returned over the years when visiting and it’s nice to see it’s on the up but it needs a refresh internally to really be on top of its game again.

Visited this quiet cosy pub with some friends for dinner. Warmly welcomed by our host for pre dinner drinks. Excellent ambience and even better waiting staff who were most helpful and indeed charming. Good menu with lots of variety ranging from fish to steak pie. Would highly recommend if you are looking for good food in excellent sourroundings.

Called in for lunch on a long trek from North Norfolk to Cheshire - actually went because of one of those signs in fields by the side of the road - Red Lion 1 mile next on the left etc. Normally ignore those but on this occasion I'm glad we didn't. The lunch menu (till 2.30) was pretty extensive and although we only went for sandwiches - they with the fries & salad were a good meal for lunch. Service was friendly - the pub was quite quiet for a Saturday lunchtime, but looked to be set up for plenty of visitors in the evening.
