Stopped off for lunch on our canal boat holiday. A short walk from the canal and we'll worth a visit. We were a family of 6 and everything was faultless for us. Even passed on a message from a passer-by to let us know our boat had escaped. Hoping to call in on the way back! But if not, we will definitely be back again by car or boat! Generous portions, amazing flavours and wide selection of choices on the menu. Tha ks for a great Sunday lunch

Really nice traditional pub with a cosy lounge dining area and superb beer gardens. Plenty of parking, delicious food and friendly staff giving excellent service.

I love the food here it's flawless. My daughter had her pizza made for her on a real fire outside she got to watch. The chief as a nice guy and all the staff there are very attentive.

The Steak & ale pie (homemade) was one of the best I have had. My partner had a club sandwich, with a generous portion of quality chips. Decent pint (or three) of St Austell Proper Job IPA to go with the food. Not been here for a few years, but will be back!

Another 5 star night at the Red lion, not the result we wanted in the football, but Andy, Becky, Teddy and the team put on a fantastic night, thank you!

Booked for a large group a few days before. Staff were very accommodating, after we got let down by another pub. Food was really good and was good value for money. The service was excellent, the staff are very friendly and helpful.

We really enjoyed our first visit to The Red Lion. The menu was interesting and we were spoilt for choice. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We'll definitely go again.

This pub has been turned round in a matter off weeks, credit to the new managers, some pubs would die for the amount of custom they have, generated. All the staff smartly turned out not stood round gabbing like some venues, tables cleared even the owners get suck in with a smile on there face. Not seen the courtyard yet but from the pics looks great. Pizza oven which the kids will love. Dogs allowed. Just shows what can be done with a lot of hard work put in. Good luck for the future.

We have been twice in 9 days and on both occasions there was 4 of us all having a different meal and all the food was so tasty and the service was fantastic and very attentive. We would highly recommend.

I was shown to the tap room on entering where I was surprised to find no cask ale. All the beers on counter were mixed gas. However I did enjoy a couple of pints of Spanish beer which, I would otherwise not have tried. Prices are above a fiver for a pint as I write. I will be visiting again, it is a vibrant place, I visited on a Friday evening.

We recently had a meal here for our son's first birthday. I cant begin to tell you how incredibly accommodating they were. Not only were they one of few places that would accommodate a party of 18 on a Sunday, they catered to dietary requirements and couldn't do enough to help make the booking process as smooth as possible. The team were friendly and couldn't do enough. The food was amazing. The nut roast went down especially well! Thanks guys 😊⭐️

Very disappointed as we had booked a table for food for a friend's birthday. Only to be told on arrival that they stopped serving food prior to our booking time. We got the feeling on arrival they had double booked us... Would have made sense to call us and inform food stops early as it was 7.50 when we arrived, 5 mins late for a 7.45 booking.

Took 13 colleagues from work today for lunch. Service and food fantastic.

Haven't been to the Red Lion for quite a while...had lunch today It was delish food...in beautiful surroundings Our server..sorry I don't know her name was just lovely as was the young guy working there who spoke to us to ask if we were happy with our meal I would recommend to anyone to go there And we will be back frequently I'm sure of that..

I’ve been to the Red Lion a number of times since the new owners took over in December 2023. The food and service has always been great. I’d highly recommend the roast on Sunday!

Sunday Lunch was wonderful. Great sized portions, well cooked and presented. Was expecting a larger bill than we got, so great value. Very attentive Staff, top class service. Will be back! Off for an after lunch nap now, can’t keep my eyes open! Thanks everybody!

Excellent food. Over the moon that the haddock and chips came with real homemade chips - these are hard to come by these days. The roast dinners that my fellow diners had were also brilliant.

Lovely, freshly cooked food, presented beautifully, interesting and varied menu, and any special requests are dealt with happily by the staff.

One of the best pints in the area. Lovely pub situated next to the canal. The owners are great and they do a brilliant job.

The food was nice but the service could be better, would be nice to have been told before we tried to order which dishes they did not have. I ordered an americano and was brought half a cup of very weak filter coffee we also ordered a latte and were brought a very weak flat white. I was disappointed as the reviews I read said it was amazing under the new management.

Becky and Andy have worked hard to get our village pub back to proper working order, and what a difference 😀. Friends came over from Wales, it's their favourite pub here, and were really happy to be back when they came to the pub, seeing the difference between now and even the summer. Chips to die for, no idea how they do it but they're the best I've ever had. Service, food, atmosphere, everything is the best. Fruit and veg from a mile away (if that), meat etc all local. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for, and we're happy to pay for properly sourced and cooked food and proper service.

I’m not sure what it is about this place, but it just cannot get it right when it comes to food and service. Never had a meal without there being an issue. Dismissive staff, regardless of management. Shan’t be heading back again.

Pre walk meal and the Sunday roasts were delicious. Plentiful meat with the most delightful roast potatoes, and crispy Yorkshire pudding and a huge jug of gravy, Medley of winter veg to accompany all of this with creamy mashed potato. Cask ales and a very nice wine selection topped off the whole experience, well done to all of the staff!

Booked table for Sunday lunch yesterday, 2 adults and my little dog, told staff we would be ordering child’s portion as I have had a stomach operation and can’t eat large portions, told that was ok as we had same the Sunday before. However on ordering at the bar we was told chef would not let us order child’s portion, I then explained about my operation and that I would not be able to eat it, staff went back to chef to explain and said he would do a medium roast for £11, it takes me all my time to eat a small one, my partner was a bit off colour and just wanted soup, as chef refused to accommodate us we left and went to the Pickering Arms where Helen and her team managed to squeeze us in even though they were mad busy, she welcomed us with open arms and will definitely be going back there, soo much cheaper than the Red Lion, we will definitely not be going back there, chef never even came out to explain just sent a message that he doesn’t want to do child’s portions for adults, who do they think they are??

Awful meal. Food not avail. Food served -steak meal was dripping in fat and awful , cheese pie was a rolled up blob of pastry with something in it. Never seen an onion ring thats been thru a wind tunnel till tonight. Waiting time . . We arrived at 6 30 and main meal served at 8 20. Heard staff tell next table they were short staffed in the kitchen, apologised for their wait and offered drinks . . . They arrived after us!! If you are short staffed then dont take bookings or limit the service or even close kitchen. This was a birthday celebration that turned into a dreadful evening. Will not be going back! Drive on by! EDIT: This pub is now under new management, it is getting fabulous reviews, and things seem to have greatly improved . . It is right to amend this review. The new management are trying hard to turn things round and sounds like they doing a good job. So we will be revisiting . .

Been to this pub before whilst on visits to the area to see family over a 20 year period. Recently visited late afternoon and tried to have a drink in the pub but informed I wasn’t allowed as it was food only with someone guarding the bar area so I couldn’t order a drink. Was directed to a narrow room attached to the older part of the pub which was crowded with dogs children/prams etc, hardly any access to the bar as groups sat on stools on either side, no where to sit. I then sat back in the main part of the pub (which is the original beamed building where most people would want to sit), unobtrusively in the corner and was then rudely informed that if someone wanted the table I’d have to move (there were about 10 plus tables free at the time). Ironically they spent the whole time delivering food to the modern narrow room (used the old pool table room years ago) where everyone was crammed in. I prefer a normal pub, where you can go to bar order a drink and sit where you want to & not treated like a second class citizen because I haven’t ordered a meal when I’m not hungry.

Management and staff were very rude, food was average but service was worse. Waited a long time for food.

Came here on a Monday at the start of December for a formal meeting followed by a meal. The venue had decided to close on Mondays, but opened to honour our booking for 14. So with no one else in the venue (hence the low score for atmosphere) we were able to hold our meeting without any distractions. The service was was great, friendly, discreet and efficient. TBH Not an ideal venue for a formal meeting but we were really here for the meal. And a lovely meal it was with good sized portions. From the set menu I had: Creamy Garlic Wild Mushrooms on crusty bread very tasty, Braised Featherblade of Beef served on creamy mash that was melt in the mouth and The cheese board. It was heavy on the smoked cheeses for my tastes and no Stilton or Brie ☹️ but fantastic presentation and accompanied by crackers, chutneys, grapes, celery, roasted walnuts and plenty of butter. At this time of year I avoid turkey but I confess to being slightly envious of those that went for turkey it looked fantastic. As did the Vanilla Brûlée I would definitely recommend the Red Lion and I do want to return for a meal from the a La Carte

Uncomfortable atmosphere not child friendly not a place to go with a young family.

Popped in at lunchtime today with my 2 dogs.just to sample the reception 👌 very friendly staff,fancied a lite lunch.chose soup.it was parsnips and curry with nam bread,different i thought ill give it a go asked can I have something for the dogs sausages came in to mind so ha presto a small bowl of chipolata sausages came with my meal.words can't describe how Amazing the food tasted.the staff accommodate my every need 10 out of 10 from dogs and me

We are so pleased the pub has been taken over by a new couple which we have no doubt will make a success of it. We went to the Pie and Mash evening and it was lovely all made by their own hands. We wish them every luck in the world. Thank you for a lovely evening. Xx❤

Very rude customer service by a lady with glasses who said 'I'm just not feeling it today' to another colleague. No food, stated on website there was. Plenty of swearing by men infront of my young children. Would not recommend.

Went in for quick pint with son after work young man behind bar nice and polite and had a nice chat. Pub lovely and clean well done all.

Closed! 21 August 2023. Their website says open and I hope that that proves to be true in the near future. A couple of locals told me some new people were to take over soon. Let's hope they make a go of it.

Really nice pub in a lovely country village. I only had a drink, and it was fine it needs decorating internally it's dated but not in a good way.

Such a shame about thus place, in a great location, food was off, 5 customers on a Sunday afternoon, bar staff were pleasant enough but extremely poorly managed. Could be a gold mine in the right hands. Needs a bloody good shake up and a new manager

IMPORTANT - this pub changed hands some months ago and it no longer does food. We were told that the new owners don’t have access to the Google site or to the website either (which I find surprising) but means all the online information is wrong. My family and I went there last night after a long drive and they had no food and no beer on tap and the atmosphere was miserable. We were even asked to move table because they wanted to clean the table even though we were the only people in there. No one else in the lounge bar and no food - not just no food on Sundays but no food full stop. I appeal to the old owners of what was once a ‘Gastropub’ to give the new owners the ability to update their site so as not to waste anyone else’s time!

Nice place for a drink. Large garden to rear and nice indoor setting. Haven't sat in the courtyard area but believe this is also a nice environment to drink in.

Unfortunate that after ninety minutes cycling, we found they no longer serve food. Hopefully not permanently...

Lovely traditional country pub. Slightly off the beaten track but very hospitable and friendly staff. They welcome dogs outside, not sure about inside. There's a nice open beer garden in the sunshine. Didn't have food so can't comment on that. All round a recommended place to visit.

Sorry to say, no atmosphere, rather empty of customers, not much beer, had to drink lager. No food on sunday evening. Cant recommend a visit.

Just called in for a drink while out cycling it was good as it had booths outside to sit in which made ideal for our visit,it also has a very nice garden to the rear as well.

We were served by the delightful Ethan and Mya. We ordered Seabass and Vegetarian curry. The Seabass was crispy and tasty. Chickpea and sweet potato curry was the best I've had! Ethan and Mya were a delight to be around. Very attentive, polite and left us wanting nothing. Food was presented to a high standard. The team here were very busy and worked extremely well under the pressure for a small village pub. A lovely walk, and many around! Recommended the Sunday lunch for our next visit and it won't be long until we come again! Thank you for a gorgeous meal

The guy on the bar lunchtime today was brilliant. We were 3 hungry bike riders who missed lunch as we got there 14.30 but he managed to russle up.some chips from the kitchen even though it was officially closed. What a star . Didn't get his name but I'm sure he will realise who he is from this description.

Lovely service by a gentleman named Ethan , food was excellent, excellent service , came out quick and was enjoyable , overall what a lovely experience, would come agai.

Horrendous. Family meal ruined by over cooked greasy food. When complaining just got a shoulder shrug and a vacant expression. No apology or a solution. I really can't state how bad this place is. Incompetent at everything. Doesn't even warrant 1 star. Never ever again 🤢

Where to start, waited 20 minutes for drinks after order was taken, it was nearly an hour before we got our starters, prawn cocktail was just prawns in a mayonnaise sauce with sprinkling of Smokey powder, ciabatta with sweet chilli and cheese minus the sweet chilli!! Mains arrived another 45 later with soggy over cooked chips, fish still swimming in grease that was pooling into a corner of the plate, lasagna that was dry and burnt, over cooked chewy scampi. No reason for the slow service as the place was almost empty or the people that were eating outside were getting priority. Not likely to ever return!

Arrived at 4:30 perfectly timed for the start of food service according to website. Rudely informed that it’s not 4:30 it’s 5pm and the owners won’t change the website. Furthermore informed that they are catering to a large party so service would be slow if they decide to cater to us. We made a 90minute journey to try this pub. Utter rubbish

This is a great pub. Had our first meal on the 2nd August and was introduced to Abbos pure beef chilli. Had to go back on the 4th August for the full version. Food and Staff are excellent with really great chefs tks

Limited choice but fish&chips excellent with large pieces of fish. Prices less than in other pubs. Staff shortages, unfortunately, led to slow service but we weren't there for fast food. The two staff on duty were very accommodating and helpful. Would definitely return.
