We were served by Abi who was very friendly and helpful. Demi was our waitress and she was very bright and cheerful. This helped us to have a very enjoyable evening, with decent food. We visit this pub quite often and the food is good and reasonably priced along with decent ales.

We treated my wife Andrea to a birthday lunch at The Red Lion. This review is for Charlotte, Claudia and Ellie as they all provided exceptional service, and made sure my wife her friends had a wonderful day. I came to the Red Lion on Monday, asking to pay for their desserts and fizz in advance. The staff found a way to make that work, and looked after the balloons that I wanted to leave. On the day, the table was ready and the staff used the cash I left to pay for the prosecco and puddings. They made my wife and her friends feel so welcome and very special indeed - we will absolutely be coming back for more! Thank you all so much for going the extra mile - we won’t forget it. We had food and a couple of drinks as a catch up with old friends for lunch here at the red lion Knowle. Friendly staff, clean and lovely relaxed atmosphere, food was beautifully cooked by chef Emma and served piping hot. A variety of starters were had, chicken tender and calamari delicious. Some had fish and chips, haddock in home made beer batter which went down a storm also the gammon was just delicious so tender and juicy, hubby loved the apple and cherry crumble with custard again piping hot, we'll definitely be back! And thanks to the lovely chef Emma

Nice place with occasional entertainment with friendly staff, only downside we had the same round of drinks 4 times but paid 4 different prices. Got to be honest I thought them days we're over with the new till systems pubs have nowadays. That said I will be back..!

Excellent service from Abby at the bar. Ale was good, had an Xpa. Manager Jim brought the food over to us. It was hot and on time and more importantly it was really nice! Definitely worth the trip, brightened up a rainy Monday

Fabulous local pub. Staff are friendly and this reflects in the atmosphere. I've been meeting friends regularly here because we've been made welcome. Food is really good and not overpriced either. Highly recommend.

Bit of a mistake to eat here. Used to be really good and not Eaten here in a while. Service quick and friendly. Food poor. Think it was straight out of Iceland and into a fryer. Serviced piping hot though. Just basic. Lots of unclean tables and place was empty. Say no more

Lovely place, sadly we were there for a funeral, but everything was exemplary. The staff were helpful and respectful. The buffet they put on was fabulous - just one tiny thing, it would’ve helped if they could’ve marked what was vegetarian and what wasn’t, or sectioned it off in some way, as it was all mixed together. Apart from that, I can’t fault them. The cookies were amazing, I’d give 5 stars for those alone!

How can you just close the bar when you feel like it oh it's gone quiet when people want to give you money!!!!!

Food was served cold, tasteless. Meat was served very undercooked. Desert was worst no mergiue or fruit in an Eton mess. Took 40min - 1 hour to clear the table away and only cleared the table when asked when they were bringing the deserts to the table. Definitely won't be returning, we will find another place

Pub looking bit run down, in need of a do over.

Had a family meal (8 of us) there on a Saturday at 14:00. Pre-booked a table for 8 and when we arrived, the booking couldn't be found. The staff member gave an "ooh" when we asked for a table for 8. Anyway, found us a space which was fine. Lackluster service overall, cheap but uninspired food. Hot drinks unavailable when we were there. Did the job but suggest giving this place a miss.

Excellent meal, really good value.

Easy to find, good parking. Great prompt to enter reg details on entry. Really friendly staff Great value lunch menu. Starter dishes cleared away and mains delivered promptly. Had the waffle to finnish and shared it-delicious! A bit of a, walk to the loo, but probably needed it after dinner! My cousin and I have decided to go again next month, around 30miles journey between us so must be worth it! Thank you for a lovely time.

Sunday lunch for Mother’s Day not great. Roast potatoes obviously frozen and more than likely Aunt Bessie’s and some like rocks. Gammon debatable and more like bacon. Winter Veg more than likely frozen and a mess on the plate.

The Red Lion in Knowle offers a charming experience with friendly service from Demi and Abi. The food is delicious, featuring a variety of hearty dishes. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Excellent service at the bar from Oscar. Landlord was well kept and clearly wasn't the only one as the other ales looked good. Food came out quickly, piping hot and couldn't fault it. Very reasonable price and portions. Atmosphere was great, lovely and warm inside and the fires were lit and looked great. Could probably do with a lick if paint in some areas but doesn't detract from the experience. Manager Jim was back and forth taking food but stopped to talk when we asked him some questions. Definitely coming back

We ordered fish and chips this time as we had the chargrilled chicken last time which was awful, bland beyond belief, the fish was under cooked and very greasy the chips where undercooked and still hard in the middle, honestly how could you mess up a simple fish and chips, lesson learnt we won’t be returning

Hate doing negative reviews but have to say the food was pretty dreadful. Sausage and mash covered a 1.3rd of a bowl but was ok. The vegetables that were supposedly steamed were dried out and were ridiculously salty. A shame, used to be a thriving local. Hope it is again one day. Atmosphere was non existent. Can't fault the staff.

Wouldn’t waste your money had starters had to wait 25 minutes for them to even come over to see if we had finished. Then the next minute our mains came out clearly had been sat under the grill as they were lukewarm the gravy boat had a ring round it where it had been sat there for a while, warm tarter sauce ,peas like bullets mash had skin on it.wouldn’t recommend.

If there was a no stars that is what they would have received. Only 2 tables in pub eating. We waited over 20 mins for main course. Starter mushrooms . These were greasy as anything. Main course had obviously sat under heat ..peas like bullets and boiling hot tartar sauce on the plate in a metal bowl which had also been left under heat in the kitchen . We was forgotten about totally. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Its awefull !

Scarcely any food. Disgusted. Special event for 9. Had bought drinks. Not advised at any time that there were severe shortages. Will never go again. It was to mark the 7th anniversary of the loss of my sister!!! We had pre booked. No steaks, burgers, chicken wings etc. We gave up and went elsewhere having bought bottle of wine and other drinks.

Usual lovely staff. Food was up to its usual standard. Only downside was that we had to keep our coats on as we thought the pub was not warm enough.

A Monday night, very quiet. 3 beers on tap, rather uninspired selection: Doom Bar, Landlord, Blitzen. Tried the Blitzen, disappointing.

Pre booked Birthday Meal Eleven of us well looked after by very helpful, professional and accommodating staff.

Came for a family lunch, only one girl at the bar,a smile would’ve been nice? Ordered the chicken and mushroom pie.The veg was uncooked and inedible, a tiny spoonful of mash. Pie was average. Had the sweet and coffe offer…. Coffe was Luke warm and the eton mess was a blob of pink stuff, nothing like the picture on the menu ? Not once were we asked was our food ok? I wonder why? Also the barmaid smelled of B.O. not a great experience at all, won’t be eating here again. It’s a shame because being in Knowle you’d think the standards would be higher?

Haven’t visited this pub for a while and boy has it gone down hill they have gone cheap or as they say vegan food portions are child sized don’t do butter don’t do full fat milk or cheese I got a dessert soon of peas some badly mashed yellow mash fatty ham that was ice cold all on a cold plate disgusting also they had an unmarked step where I lost some mocha which was nearly warm clearly the girl never made a mocha in her life it was just coco powder and skimmed milk I’d advise giving this place a miss and if you have booked for Xmas Unbook

Warm pleasant and friendly atmosphere

The last time my wife and I went to the Red Lion, the bar staff refused to accept valid brewery offers I had on my app so we left. Today we were mooching in Knowle and passed the Red Lion. It looked very festive and inviting so we decided to give it another go. Wife ordered Hunters chicken which was a very small portion with an undercooked rasher of bacon. It tasted rank so it was inedible. My haddock was very thin, full of hot oil with pale undercooked batter. I put up with my substandard meal but my wife complained to the barman as she couldnt find the waitress. He apologised and offered her a free drink and said he would advise the chef. Nothing came of this. When the waitress eventually appeared to clear our table she never mentioned our meals and even though my wifes meal was untouched she never asked why. Hunters Chicken is my wifes most popular choice at other Ember Inns so she knows what to expect, but the Red Lions offering was disgusting. We suspect the chicken was not fresh cooked.We will give the Red Lion a wide berth on future visits to Knowle.

Visited the Red Lion in Knowle today and can honestly say it's the worst front of house experience I've come across for a long time. The female serving behind the bar was extremely rude with little social skills (no greeting/smile). My friend and I placed an order and we were served luke warm drinks. I stated I didn't like complaining and politely asked whether they could be changed. The female bar member abruptly said "they're hot" and walked off. She also refused to change the hot chocolate (that can only be described as warm milk) for a Mocha because of a price difference (despite the mocha being 50p cheaper). The new drinks took some time to be returned to our table with a time lapse between each so we couldn't actually enjoy a drink together. I followed up our food order after some time and that too was luke warm when it arrived (soup). Management was also rude and neither he nor the female bar member apologised for the cold drinks and poor service. Very disappointing, and we will certainly not be returning. It was very quiet in there so I can not see any reason for how we were treated today. I was actually made to feel like an inconvenience. I would not recommend this pub.

We had a large group of 27 for a Christmas meal, the staff were brilliant at accommodating us, the food was great and everyone had a lovely evening.

We've visited a number of ember inns. This is the best one. The food came out just cooked and red hot. It looked and tasted superb. The service was spot on. Nice friendly staff. Well done. If there was one fault it's the toilets. The smell of damp was overpowered by air freshener.

Called here for a change and found the staff were very welcoming and a good choice of beers for me. The food arrived in an acceptable time and all 4 of us were happy with our fayre. I'm sure we will make the 20 odd mile journey to go here again.

No salad, none! Not even a side salad....no lasagne, no tikka skewers. I was visiting with a friend and had to make three trips to the bar before I could finally order our food. It was very disappointing. The staff were lovely though and apologetic. We would visit again but perhaps not on a Tuesday when they obviously had sold out over the weekend and not had a replenishment.

James was great looked after us well, event though we were severely delayed due to traffic. Food was great and decent value, priced about right I'd say. Using the meerkat discount was definitely a bonus!

Actually a decent pub, really enjoyed Geoff & Val's Sunday night quiz. However the 'real ale' offerings were to say thge least 'poor'. Doom Bar is undrinkable, Timmy Taylors a slog, Tribute not even worth bothering and Mad Goose marginally acceptable, very pleased to get back to Ale Rooms for a great pint at last orders. *edit. For fairnesss a subsequent visit found a Wye Valley 'Butty Bach' real ale that was a big improvement.

Booked at a table, it was in a lovely corner by the window. We both had steak, medium rare with chips and it was just how we like it, which quire often never happens in other places and we get medium or well done. The chefs name was Emma. Highly recommend.
