A nice surprise. A quaint old English pub. Excellent food the chef Shaun I compliment for the belly of pork. Very tasty. Breakfast good too! A nice cosy room with a good bed rounded off the stay nicely ( shame about the wonky ironing board but it doest distract from a great stay) will be back again in 2025 definitely a recommendation.

A menudo me detengo en el camino a casa para una cerveza rápida y un poco de paz y tranquilidad y este lugar es perfecto, especialmente sentado al lado del canal. Solo hay 1 cerveza encendida a la vez que supongo que es para fines de calidad y actualmente es Doom Bar el favorito de mi.

Nos encantó nuestra experiencia en The Kinds Arms! Oscar, nuestro atento camarero, fue más allá organizando un Prosecco gratuito para celebrar nuestra próxima boda. La comida era excelente, y toda la noche con la familia fue verdaderamente memorable. Muy recomendable!

Can across this gem on a recent trip, idyllic location

We have just stayed 2 nights at this wonderful hotel, lovely comfortable rooms with only one small criticism room was a little dark for us older ladies, could have done with brighter light bulbs... but what made our stay so pleasant was the lovely staff who went above and beyond, especially Cameron and Shannon but all staff work so hard to look after you..the food was also amazing, we loved everything about this place and would highly recommend..thank you.

We stayed here as a gift of our daughter and son in law, the room was not as good as we thought! There was dust on the bedside table so felt uncomfortable putting food on there, dust on the trays where the coffee cups were placed, some hairs in the shower and inside the toilet, bit of a let down as the food was amazing , over all the bed was cosy.

Where to begin?! Ordered drinks 5 min after being seated, but had to wait 15 min for those despite the place being practically empty. Food then took over 20 min, by which time the drinks were done and we wanted more, and had to wait 15 min after the food for those, not really very proactive of staff here… Food arrived with mushrooms missing off each dish without explanation, queried this and they said they’ll bring them over, over 5 min later, no apology. Egg also missing from traditional breakfast was told it only had one egg but very clearly is stated on the menu to be two, upon pointing this out was told it just has one, two only for a large breakfast, which is incorrect as per the menu. Ordered two flat whites for a second drink and when they eventually were brought out they said “two big flat whites we ran out of small cups”, these are in fact a latte, not a flat white, which is NOT what I ordered, if I wanted more milk then I’d order such. No replacement offered there or mistake acknowledged, these quite literally are two different coffees, feel free to use the larger cup but just fill accordingly?! Floor was dirty with chips and crumbs beneath us, seems it wasn’t swept last night! Nobody came to check on how we were enjoying the meal. Could’ve comfortably had another drink after the meal but no member of staff came to offer one, or even direct us to the bar to order more and or pay. Not the country pub experience I was expecting.

I ordered scallops and fish n chips. There were no scallops which if I had known b4 I wud av ordered say lamb..anyway fish n chips arrived well done. Fish edible 6/ 10 but chips were roasted. Obviously not straight from oil. Shame, b cos experience was very nice otherwise. Rock on.

Stopped for a drink on canal side never again two glasses of wine and two half's of coke twenty seven pounds fifty ridiculous price.

Got back to pub at 10.25 to be told the bar is shut. And we are residents !! Shocking! Do but stay here unless you want to go to bed early.

Lovely meal, Leah was attentive and friendly, the food was so good, compliments to Chef Shaun. We always have a great meal here, lovely atmosphere, super surroundings. Thank you to Leah and Shaun for looking after us.

My wife was served with hake .couscous, a tiny salad, with un cooked french beans and broccoli..The couscous was also cold.The meal was very poor.The total bill for four people was £120.00 .

First time back after a couple years. All I can say is wow, amazing food, staff and service. The place its self is incredible. Only managed to catch one of the staffs name which was Dan, he was amazing threw out as well as the rest of the staff.

A first time visit to this canal side venue proved an experience not to be repeated.The staff were a delight but they were up against a menu that on the face was intriguing but proved to be less than average, uncooked beans in a couscous salad did not inspire and the lack of proper mushy peas with skin on oven chips and a rather small portion of battered fish which had freezer origins made this an average meal.The wine list had London pricing which doesn’t work this far north and with beer at a premium price made this an expensive evening for all.

Fantastic place with lovely atmosphere and exceptional food. However it's the customer service that makes this place shine. I had made a mistake on my booking and arrived very late, and the staff were so helpful and did everything to help us. Leah did everything to accommodate our little one, and in the morning Dan cared for us at breakfast and went above and beyond to make it a special experience. We have stayed in many hotels and bnb's on road trips but this is the best customer service we have ever experienced. The food is also worth a mention. Loved it and will likely stop by on our return leg

Had a lovely experience and the waitress Leah was very friendly and she tried to do all she could to make our time in the restaurant a pleasant one. Although we are not local to the area, we will definitely be back for another meal.

Visited The Kings Arms in Knowle on Saturday 10 August, for the first time. Was looking forward to a night out with good food and wine and to experience somewhere a bit different. We sat outside first to have a drink and enjoy the beautiful grounds. The drinks were very expensive compared to other pubs but we didn't mind too much. We ordered food from the main menu, 1 x Slow cooked Pork Belly and 1 x pan roasted Lamb rump. The lamb was tough and hard to cut even with a steak knife there were a few green beans and the char grilled veg consisted of a slice of onion and pepper. the Pork Belly was quite a small piece which was quite fatty with very little else on the plate to fulfil our appetites. We wanted to express our disappointment with the overall general quality of the food but there was no one around to speak to so we left and put it down to a bad experience. Definitely won't be going back there!!!

Took my mother for lunch. She had the hake and I had yhe panzenella salad. Both were very good. Leah who served us was very friendly helpful and attentive.

We had the prix fixe menu, which was good. Service was better than it has been on previous visits, but they were not busy. It's a nice old pub beside the canal with outdoor seating. Gets busy at weekends, and service can be really slow then.

Great place to have lunch and catch up with friends.

We decided to try the Kings Arms while the car was having its MOT over the road. The staff are wonderful, polite and attentive. The ambience is pleasant although we decided to take advantage of the pleasant weather and sat outside while watching the canal boats go past. The coffee and tea are excellent using Lavattza which is one of my favourite coffees. We had the bacon sandwiches which were freshly cooked and prepared while we waited. All in all a very pleasant pub that we enjoyed and will visit again.

Ordered a main and 2 sides. Despite I asked them to be served all together, everything came one by one. Waiters have no idea on what we ordered. Not going to come here again.

Lovely weather and setting but unfortunately poor food and service. Drinks ordered but didn't arrive, had to ask for them after our starters, and given coke rather then diet coke and apple instead of pineapple juice - the latter was ok so not mentioned but had to ask for the former to be changed. Long wait for food and surrounding tables not cleared. Chunky chips overcooked and cold/soggy and chicken burger wasn't great either. The Gammon, eggs, thin fries were better. Staff looked to be thin on the ground and trying to do their best so it wasn't easy to discuss these concerns with them at the time. We were really looking forward to the meal, as in the past it has been a great place to eat, but we were really very disappointed today.

Went tonight for my birthday. Fish & Chips x 2 and a burger. Fish & chips over cooked and dry. Mushy peas bone dry. Am not especially fussy but really poor and took forever. Had to have my husbands fries as chips were burnt. Did not complain as didn't want another wait and there were others complaining. Lovely spot for a drink and a walk. Wouldn't eat there again though.

We visit the King's Arms on our anniversary every year as it was the place of our first date. Since Covid the service has been lacking. We visited yesterday at 5pm, we got drinks and ordered our food with no issue. After our starter was cleared away we were then served our main within a couple of minutes. After mains we were offered to see the dessert menu. We had to wait 20 minutes before someone noticed we were waiting. When dessert/coffee arrived we then had to rush them. The food is OK and it feels it should deliver on every level but always disappoints.

Our second time visiting for an overnight stay after our first experience was so good. The location is great (We love the canalside location), the staff are all friendly and attentive, food is fantastic (The Wine & Dine offer is amazing value for money) and the rooms whilst small are cosy, and really well appointed. Will stay again in future - we love it

This pub/restaurant caters for a large group of singers every six months, can be up to 100. They always do us proud. They provide a three course meal plus an optional glass of Prosecco quickly and efficiently. How they do this in a small kitchen is a miracle, !! Some people have to wait longer than others obviously but we try and make this fair and rotate the tables. The staff are always friendly and attentive and make us feel welcome Thank you

The Kings Arms did it again! They served a delicious high quality 3 course meal to a local choir group of 90 people with excellent service and good humour. Special mention goes to Marie who is always so supportive on the evening and with the pre-event organisation; nothing is ever too much trouble. Credit must also go to Reece, Zac, Poppy, Amie and Louis who kept the food and drink coming to the tables. Many attendees commented on the high quality of the food and for this thanks go to Shaun, Lauren, Dave, Jimmy, Alex, Carter and Luke. For anyone thinking of planning a large event, I cannot recommend The Kings Arms, highly enough. We will be back!

Visited on Tuesday evening of this week for our Summer choir 3 course meal with 90 fellow Rockies, and cannot express how happy we all were. The food was amazing, arrived quickly and was really hot (such an accomplishment when serving such a huge group of people). All of the staff at the Kings Arms are so friendly and attentive, they constantly attended to our table, checking if we needed anything and taking drinks orders. Everyone went above and beyond to ensure we had the perfect night, as they have on so many of our previous visits. A massive thank you to Marie for all her help in organising the evening and hard work on the night, it's so greatly appreciated, again!

We booked a party of 16 to celebrate our mum's 92nd birthday. It was booked at quite late notice but The King's Arms accommodated us so well. Everyone's food was served promptly and the service was really efficient and attentive. Quite a few of us had the triple roast, which was really good!! Can't fault anything about our visit. Top marks to the staff who couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. We'll definitely be returning. Thank you so much for helping to make our mum's day very special.

We had a lovely meal here on Friday 5th. There were 6 of us. Everything was wonderful!!

Enjoyed a lovely overnight stay here . Great location with really comfortable rooms with every amenity needed. Food was excellent, I was waited on by the fabulous Charly who is a real credit to your staff. I will definitely return to this little gem whenever I’m working in the area. Paul.

10+ years since my last visit here. Today's Sunday roast meal for 3 of us was exceptional. ! Service and staff were all excellent even though it was v.busy. A nice walk along the canal to top it all. Tip top all round! Well done. Paul

Excellent food and very friendly staff. Unfortunately, my meal arrived much later than the rest of our party's meals but they did the right thing and we got it for free plus a free bottle of wine. Couldn't have asked for more!

When ordering a glass of chardonnay I was told, "we're out of chardonnay " Then when ordering the steak pie I was told "we're out of the pie. No apology, the waitress lacked personality and displayed very little customer service skills. I was over charged for the wine at the end of the meal and did not enjoy the half chicken dinner I had to choose as an alternative. A very disappointing visit all in all.

Such a disappointing experience (yet again). First of all we were kept waiting for 30 minutes beyond our booked table time, because the table was occupied by someone else. No drinks were offered, menus given or orders taken during our time waiting. Eventually we were seated and the same poor service continued. The food took absolutely ages and was very mediocre when it did eventually arrive. The "dirty burger" was genuinely burnt: completely dry and hard to cut, and the chips were stone cold. They had obviously been sat waiting for ages. Roasts were OK but the Yorkshire's were so big and tasteless we had to ask for an additional dish so we could take them off the plates. Desserts came out to finish, except the 3 cheese boards didn't arrive and took a further 15 minutes after a lot of pestering. Usually circus act occurred at the end too when asking for the bill: asked 3 different people for it but it didn't want to arrive. Overall, another bitterly disappointing meal and we definitely won't return ever again given the consistently poor food and service. Avoid this place like the plague.

Our waitress Leah was a breath of fresh air. She was polite, witty and very professional. We will be back very soon.

Genuinely a proper top full English. Large, great quality, quick. The mushrooms were legit the best I have ever had on a breakfast, and that's saying something considering I went to Gary Wilmot's wedding. The mushrooms were beautiful, exciting, exotic... EROTIC?! People come from all over to buy, to sell, and to steal these mushrooms

Food amazing, service amazing. Love the building everywhere was clean. Our server was so polite and looked after us. The only problem we had was when we was paying the bill we as how the tips are split, was expecting something like some go to the kitchen and the server gets the rest,however it seems that everyone gets some of the tip including managers even if they are in doing admin and not out of the office . This is not fair to those who are giving a good service in my opinion needs to be looked at

Great family country pub on the GU Canal

Good food good drinks nice location nice staff ,the posh fish and chips which was battered sea bass was a nice change from the usual cod and chips ,

Went in for food. Took them 45 minutes to make a simple charcuterie board when the place was empty. When it came it was swimming in olive oil. Awful chavy house music blasting from kitchen when we just wanted a piece full dinner. We got up and left in the end it went to another pub for our mains.

Nice place very cosy and welcoming unfortunately the food was not to the standard you would expect and the prices are exorbitant for food that comes ready made and just needs a quick heat up, such as the pear dessert and the burgers, my friend asked for no pickles yet you could still taste pickles on the burger definate signs of the pub using pre prepared food, so why charge cooked to order prices? Staff however were excellent attentive and always ready to help. I won't be going here again though as there are pubs closer to me which offer better food at more reasonable prices

Staff were lovely but wouldn't go again to be honest. Mushroom starter was flavourless and watery and the nut roast was below average and the roasties tasted as though they were cooked from frozen. A shame really because the food was really well presented and appeared great.

We were greeted with smiles even though we were late due to a late plane landing. Room was small but lovely and clean. Staff in the morning were lovely and the breakfast was superb.

First time coming today the food and desserts delicious and tasty. The staff was all friendly, welcoming and polite. Gail was our waitress she was such a lovely lady very friendly and kept coming over see if everything was OK which it was. We'll done to the kitchen staff for the food which was amazing compliments to the kitchen staff. The wait wasn't to long definitely come again. The lad when when we first arrived and took us to the table was lovely and friendly to I didn't get his name

We were met and treated very politely, shown to the table and made to feel very welcome. Drinks, starter, mains, coffee, etc, all 10/10. Quality of food was amazing. Great restaurant. Highly recommend.

Fantastic place to stay, the room I had was quite cosy, but was a really nice room and really comfortable....the food is great and reasonably priced and the staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful and it felt like nothing was to much trouble...I definitely stay again when I'm back on the area...

Popped in for Sunday lunch and opted for the duo of beef. The food was perfect! Beef cooked to perfection and plenty enough on the plate. Bailey was our waiter and he was fantastic. Kind, friendly and couldn’t do enough ti help us. He’s a credit to your business 👌

Went for dinner last night Friday 11th August with friends. The food was very poor. The only Veggie option Sweet potato curry, was really bad, dirty burgers were not much better to be honest. 1 of the Chocolate brownies was burnt and returned. In all we spent £125. The place has a new Décor since my last visit but someone needs to learn to cook OR the person who Designed the menu COME AND SHOW THEM HOW TO COOK Thank you for the offer to resolve last Fridays Fiasco, but no thanks guys. I will vote with my feet, never to return. Just had a Sunday roast at this place I vowed never to return to. I had meat trio distinctly average. Dry veg soggy roast potatoes, Mrs had the Fig roast which was nice, but all the veg and spuds same as mine. My daughter had the roasted cod which looked nice. And tasted nice too. The cauliflower cheese came as we had a couple of mouthfuls left. The service was second rate at best. Looked like kids still at school, totally not interested. £102 with drinks. Never again. Made out they were busy but lots of empty table's

What a lovely place! We stayed in the hotel and it was fab, so clean and tidy and presentable and beds were so comfy , well done housekeeping you are brilliant , also went for food , food was beautiful and it looked so good when it came out it was a shame to eat it :) , me and my hubby had the best experience so thankyou , bar staff and server were lovely too , management definitely lucky to have a wonderful team Will be coming back Definitely a 5 star place

Popped here on Easter Sunday for a few drinks with the family. Lovely pub and great staff. Matthew Kilgallon served us at the bar, lovely and friendly young man who greets you with a smile. Would definitely recommend this place

Service a little slow but Patsy made up for it with her friendly, willing and smiling attitude inspite of having to put up with requests from 9 oldies. She's a gem!

Food came, meals were standard however there was some dishes that weren’t. My food had to be sent back the chips looked like the were scrapped off the bottom of the fryer- they were dark brown. Funnily these were hid under the dish. Sent the food back and the chips came out completely different-how they should of the first time- which shows they didn’t care for the standard they sent it out and would of been happy for my to eat those extremely crispy chips. Mac and cheese came out dry might as well been plain pasta. Was sent back to then have a cold mac and cheese, sent back again and there was no returned item. A desert was ordered, and a completely different desert was sent out, showing no thought went into anything.

Staff pleasant, food left a lot to be desired

This happened on a thursday was quite and empty so for this type of food to come out just shows it’s not because they were rushed or busy. The food is below standard. Fish and chips were ordered, fish was alright but the chips were a dark shade of brown and so oily- there was no potato left in them. I sent this back, the chips came out COMPLETELY different. They were light brown as they should be showing that they didn’t watch or care of the standard they previously gave out. Mac and cheese was completely dry basically like plain pasta. This was sent back the next one came out cold and then was no return of this item. A desert was ordered however a completely different dish was put on the table- again lack of care.

Excellent Service, enjoyed the experience and would recommend. Great location, parking easy. We visit regularly and will continue to do so

Great food from Shaun with a lovely piece of hake, and the dish of the day all nicely cooked. Good service from Charlie too, who pulled a great pint and fetched me a warm throw. They made our visit a very enjoyable event.
