The King's Arms in Solihull

Cuando llegamos no había nadie en el bar o alrededor. Nosotros y otros tuvimos una larga espera solo para estar sentados. Encontramos que solo dos empleados estaban funcionando y sirviendo a todo el bar y restaurante. Hicieron un buen esfuerzo, pero la impresión era que se estaba quedando corto de personal. Cuatro de nosotros pedimos diferentes platos de la oferta de almuerzo de dos platos. El pescado (pescado con papas fritas) era gris y no comestible y estaba cubierto de una masa medio cocida. Nos quejamos y se dedujo de la factura, aunque cobraron el precio completo por el dulce. La salchicha y el puré era una porción muy pequeña y no relación calidad-precio. Por el precio - £ 100 por 4 mientras que el servicio era bueno esta fue una comida pobre y lamentablemente estropeó una reunión de viejos amigos.

We stayed at The Kings Arms Knowle in Birmingham over the Easter holidays and had a genuinely lovely experience. While we won’t go into the specific hiccups we had, what really stood out was how brilliantly the management handled everything—especially Reece, who went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. The hospitality was next-level. On our last morning, we had family join us for breakfast and were touched when they offered it to us on the house. It wasn’t just a kind gesture—the breakfast itself was absolutely amazing, hands down the best I’ve ever had. The rooms may be on the smaller side, but they’re spot on: clean, cosy, and have everything you need. Staff were friendly, helpful, and made the stay even more enjoyable. The setting is lovely too—right on the canal with a beautiful view, especially when the weather’s in your favour. A really charming spot to stay and one we’d happily return to.

Such a lovely spot, by the canal. Great place to relax outside, if we get the weather.. but just as relaxing inside, if we don't. Food is lovely and prices are reasonable.

Fuimos al Kings Arms para almorzar con algunos de nuestros amigos el lunes por la tarde y estábamos muy contentos con nuestra experiencia. El servicio fue genial, nos atendió una camarera encantadora llamada Victoria que era muy amable y agradable y también eficiente, nos atendieron muy rápido. La comida era muy deliciosa también y el vino, por supuesto! Sin duda volveríamos aquí de nuevo! Muy recomendable!

Bonito lugar acogedor en un entorno encantador, especialmente ideal para tomar unas copas al sol junto al canal. El personal era muy agradable y la comida estaba bien cocinada por nuestro chef Leah, gracias.

I go here regularly and sometimes get frustrated with the service, feel they're understaffed at times because majority of time staff are running around, this feels like management not having enough staff on duty from what I can figure. Apart from that, great place.

Lovely spot for a lunch, great sandwiches

It's a nice place but man it's expensive. Drinks and starters came quick but we then had a very long wait to finally get our mains. My steak was gristly and fatty, and it definitely wasn't 10oz as labelled on the menu. But steaks are a bit of a lottery to be fair. Chips are delicious but not very generous, would it break the bank to add a few more chips, with the prices you charge? Those prices are heart attack inducing! On another note, toilet paper in the rooms is of the poorest quality, reminded me of school. The bed was very comfortable though and the shower was decent. Breakfast was delicious and nice coffee. Parking is plentiful. The place is tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Staff are friendly. Did I mention it's expensive?

I enjoyed my fillet steak but none of the accompaniments were enjoyable. The onion was undercooked and the mushrooms dry. We ate in the bar, the staff were pleasant but took far too long to clear the table. The pub was fairly empty so I don’t think they were overstretched.

We invited our friends for a dinner to Kings Arms and faced such a disappointment with food and service. I ordered Panzanella salad, but asked to substitute croutons and hummus with extra tomatoes and avocado as I have food intolerance for wheat and chickpeas. I was served the salad as it is just without the ingredients I ask to avoid and no substitute. The salad was not enjoyable at all. My husband wanted to order a main which was not available as they had a busy day earlier. He was offered to have a mix of two other mains and as a result he had completely different meal which was absolutely not what he was offered and as he described later was more like a few not very well done leftovers thrown on the plate. As we had friends with us we didn’t want to complain about our food and just had what we were served and left. Two waitresses serving us were not checking on us to make sure we were satisfied with our food and when taking back plates nobody asked why I have left most of my salad on the plate. Sad, as we used to have some lovely dinners out there, although it was before the refurb. Certainly we will not recommend this pub to anyone

Lovely food great service in a great location for a walk down the canal

A disappointing evening. This pub with rooms has a great location by the canal. Inside it’s rather pretentious: very fancy decor, smartly presented but underwhelming food - overcooked fish, underseasoned pie - very overpriced. Staff were a mixed bag, some very professional but the young woman who brought our food then remembered cutlery and wandered off for some minutes so the food had cooled by the time we could eat it. Drinks at London prices. Our attempt at a comfortable quiet evening was ruined at 7pm precisely by electropop cranked up very loud, lights turned down very dim so we could neither hear to have a conversation nor see to read. Staff said they couldn’t do anything about it ‘it’s controlled from head office.’

Four us for lunch on Wednesday. Three ordered from the set menu and one from the main menu. Food was excellent as was the service from our server Victoria. She appeared to be working alone and was very busy however she continued to be efficient and helpful whilst remaining cheerful.

Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Lovely location, plenty of parking, easy access to NEC. Bar and dining areas are comfortable and relaxing, with plenty of space. Decor throughout was stylish and in keeping with the building. We stayed overnight and enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the bar. All good. BUT ... The Sunday dinner menu is a bit over-contrived, with too many competing ingredients in each dish, and everything was big, heavy meals. There were no options for those of us with smaller appetites. This is not haute cuisine, so better to make it simpler- the restaurant menu is overpriced. I'm surprised that there were no menus available on the tables (we had to ask for one). I had the cod and chips and my companion ordered a steak. Both were excellent, freshly prepared and well-presented, and our waiter was delightful, attentive but not intrusive.

My husband and I went for Sunday lunch here on the 24th Feb. 25 Lovely refurb and ambience. However waitress could have done with a personality transplant, miserable from start to finish. Misleading dish on menu in terms of it being described as blade of braised beef. When in actual fact, there was only a small element that was so! The rest was fatty and very chewy which I and I heard another customer query, at the time with the waitress. Only to be told, “sorry it can be a little misleading”! Further, husband’s chicken dish came out with a large hair attached to his chicken breast! Despite telling the waitress twice, I did not enjoy the chewy meat, upon bringing the bill to us, there was no acknowledgment of our comments. Full bill for a mediocre meal! At that point asking if we were happy with the bill!!! Unbelievable poor customer service and experience and would definitely put us off returning! Would NOT recommend, sadly!!

Called in on h the way back home from Solihull. We have wanted to visit before but by the time we recognised it was open we had gone over the bridge and found it difficult to turn round..This time we we made the effort and are glad we did. It’s a member of The Innkeeper’s Collection chain. We only wanted a drink but there were plenty of people who seemed to be enjoying their meals. Service at the bar was a bit slow but friendly and the pub was warm and welcoming. Several people checked into the hotel while we were there so it seems like a popular and convenient place to stay. We will certainly go there again, perhaps for a meal next time. It had a large car park and outdoor seating to enjoy in Summer. .

We booked to stay here and there was a mix up, we wanted 3 rooms for 1 night and they had us down for 1 room for 3 nights. Spoke to a very helpful lady in their booking department ( Parbi) who got it all sorted - she was AMAZING! so we arrive and the place is outstanding.! General Manger, sorry i don't know his name but he was so helpful and polite that we then ended up extending our stay for another 2 nights even though we had accommodation booked elsewhere! Food lovely, lovely county pub atmosphere - rooms had everything you need, very comfy beds, and lovely bathrooms. I don't leave many reviews but this was one I had to share. Well done Parbi and the GM, yo are an asset to your company.

On this visit, we enjoyed the food selection we had. The service was good in general. It was a good night. In terms of improvement, we took advantage of a special b'day offer from the Kings Arms, where we had 1 3 course meal free from 2. The only issue I had was, when we received the final invoice, it was so poorly presented and calculated, it was impossible to follow and there were errors, which we had to get corrected, as we were being overcharged. It took the gloss off what otherwise was a pretty good dining experience.

The food was superb and Charley our waitress was very attentive, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The pub itself was very welcoming and has a lovely atmosphere. All the staff were lovely and are a credit to the pub. We had a really lovely evening with an excellent meal, thank you. Would highly recommend this pub.

Just returned after a Monday evening. One of the most tender, tasty ribeye steaks I’ve ever had. Food was delicious and hot. Red wine was served at the correct temperature. Dessert was delicious. Charlie our server was very polite, informative and friendly even though she was busy. Will definitely be returning.

Well I said we would only return if I was on a diet! Did someone till the chef, okay we had a 50% off mains voucher. So on arrival let me say the staff are always friendly, it was not there fault the table we were shown to was in a very chilly area, lucky we were moved to a spot by the fire. Another party also sat at the same spot and asked to be moved. I am going say the restaurant was not very warm. So on to the food, I choose the Pork belly, my wife a pie my brother asked for Fish and chips, but unfortunately no fish so ordered a pizza,(when it came it was the wrong type so it went back. Correct order arrived minis the side of chips.) Both my meal and my wife's was void of vegetables apart from half a carrot and my wife's single sprig of broccoli. Let's just say this is a great pub, but why oh why is it so hard to fill a plate with a decent meal. I am amazed at the other reviews I have read from other visitors. We will never be returning to The King's Arms.

££££ overpriced with mean portions. I was looking for somewhere on short notice with the wife and our dog and this pub used to be ok years ago when it was the herons nest . I ordered the half roast chicken with chips which looked like half a qual with a cup of fries a small sauce £19.95 no peas no side salad just a ridiculous half a piece of grilled lemon. My wife had the fish and chips which at least came with some mushy peas again £19.95 . Also my flat white came in a large espresso cup . Very disappointing and unwhelmed

Another excellent night at The Kings Arms! 94 members of a local choir were served a delicious 3 course meal with efficiency and good humour. Everyone was highly complimentary about the quality of the food, atmosphere and service. Special thanks to Shan who managed the evening so well, to the Chef and his/her colleagues who prepared and delivered high quality food so efficiently and Sophie for help with the pre-event planning. I wish I had the names of the staff who served all the tables and kept the food and drink flowing, so that I could thank them personally- they were all excellent! The Kings Arms is a superb venue for large events or casual dining. It never fails!

We thought the Kings Arms was decorated and furnished beautifully. The service was excellent and the food was amazing! We came from Oxford and Derbyshire as Knowle is a halfway poitn to meet, and even though it was a bit of a drive to get to you - we will definitely be back!

Was delighted to have been offered a free three course meal to celebrate my birthday if another person also bought three courses. I came with my husband on my birthday and enjoyed a really lovely meal. We were very well looked after throughout the evening. Thank you so much.

A nice surprise. A quaint old English pub. Excellent food the chef Shaun I compliment for the belly of pork. Very tasty. Breakfast good too! A nice cosy room with a good bed rounded off the stay nicely ( shame about the wonky ironing board but it doest distract from a great stay) will be back again in 2025 definitely a recommendation.

Starters and service to begin with were fine. I requested the fish dish but there were none left so only real alternative for a pescitarian was the vegetable Wellington, when this eventually arrived it was a shortcrust pastry pie that was over cooked. We were not asked during the meal if everything was fine so just ate the filling and when I pointed out to the manager it was not a Wellington he actually laughed and said he discuss it with the ' menu team'! We were in a bit of a rush so ordered hot drinks with a mini desert, waited 20 mins for the desert and the drinks never came. Asked for the bill and pointed out we hadn't had our drinks and 3 times had to send the bill back because they kept putting the drinks on. There were plenty of staff on and many empty tables and we dealt with the manager but received no apology from him. Won't be visiting again and won't recommend.

Food was lovely. Quite expensive though, a burger and fries 18.95 is a lot. Service was pleasant but slow considering it was quiet. Atmosphere ok but very quiet.

A menudo me detengo en el camino a casa para una cerveza rápida y un poco de paz y tranquilidad y este lugar es perfecto, especialmente sentado al lado del canal. Solo hay 1 cerveza encendida a la vez que supongo que es para fines de calidad y actualmente es Doom Bar el favorito de mi.

Food was ok, apart from the pie which whilst hot, had lumps of solid meat, which couldn’t easily be chewed. The real problem was it took 2.5 hours for two courses. It’s nice not to be hurried and have a leisurely dinner, but the lack of attention from the waitress beggars belief. It took approximately ten minutes for the drinks order to be taken, even then, when they were delivered they were incorrect. Food was ordered, some things were sold out, which we accept, but it then took best part of 45 minutes for dinners to arrive. Not once in this time was we offered the opportunity to order another round of drinks. The last meal was delivered 7-8 minutes after the first. It was at this point that WE asked for another round of drinks. After we HAD finished eating, the waitress come over to check if the food was ok…bit late by then. We then had the table partly cleared, 3 or 4 empty plates were left, whilst the waitress went to attend to another table. We then asked to see the desert menu, and we asked for the table to be cleared, which was then done by the waitress. Deserts then took approximately 30 minutes to arrive, no offer of coffee/tea etc. We also heard the waitress ask one of the senior staff if she could pop outside for some fresh air, still with tables waiting to be cleared and reset. We then asked for the bill as two of the party had a journey of 1.5 hrs to get home. It was only when I got home I noticed that the service charge, was labelled incorrectly as vat @ 20% (the bill lists two vat charges) if I’d of realised this in the restaurant then I would of requested this be removed.

Lovely restaurant but the worst service ever. The meals arrived 10 minutes apart so a family meal this was not! Waitress looked at best fed up and never came to see how the food was or take drinks orders. A real shame as the place its self looks good but the experience wasn’t. Will not recommend or visit again, the Orange Tree up the road is fantastic and a far better choice.

We recently visited the Kings Arms for a family birthday celebration. I would like to thank all of the staff for a perfect evening, the service and food were amazing and well deserving of 5 stars.

Ordered the small plates, and whilst the sizes were good the food was just okay, but nothing wildly special. Otherwise, staff were really helpful and kind, super polite and really quick to bring drinks and food over. Overall, a good experience!

We are camped with our motorhome tonight and on arrival i asked a lovely young lady if we could stay and have a table. She was absolutely brilliant with helping us choose the food and wine for this evening. It is so nice to meet genuinely nice and helpful people in this day and age. The food way exceptionally good as was the wine and service. We will be back. Thank you.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Kings Arms Knowle. We had the most delicious rib eye at the restaurant on the Friday night, and then the following morning the most amazing breakfast. It was really top class. Our room was cosy and well presented with a lovely ensuite. There was nothing we could fault. If we are in the area again we'll be back, maybe in the summer to enjoy your beautiful outdoor seating area overlooking the Grand Union Canal.

Just had two very tasty and well presented meals: the mushroom risotto and the banana blossom stew. Excellent service from all the staff, they were super helpful with our requests and very friendly. The chef went out of her way to provide some extra bits due to our dietary requirements and could not have been more accommodating. This pub was recommended to us by our Airbnb host and we would certainly pass that recommendation on.
