Such a lovely pub. Best place to eat in the village, nice atmosphere; cosy and accommodating. Stayed in the b and b rooms for a couple of nights. Clean and quaint. We ate in the restaurant every night and would highly recommend the food. Staff were lovely and they welcomed the dog with open arms. Highly recommended.

Excellent location but slightly out of the way if you don't know the area. The kitchen has just reopened after renovations.Nice selection of rooms..one feels like a bar,one which looks like small snug /lounge but having finishing touches done at present and back room which overlooks garden area feels more like an eating area than cosy lounge.Garden area big and still having finishing touches made but nice area.Good variety of beers but I feel £4.50 for Doombar a little pricey ! Menu is compact and my meat pie was extremely tasty and full of beef with a nice tub of gravy.Mash and vegetables nicely cooked and well presented. But ! ..the meal was very adequate going towards big.I realise you cannot have a big menu due to kitchen restrictions but really fancied a lighter lunch of something basic like cheese cob with chips or maybe ploughman's,which I know is a bit old fashioned but nicer for a lighter lunch.Maybe even the old favourite of good quality ham with accompaniments. Its not a negative review as i feel you may tweak menu.Pricewise steak and Guinness pie with mash and roasted vegetables cost £15,which is an o.k.price at night but I feel a cheaper and lighter lunch possibly might suit some people especially older ones like myself.Pleasant bar staff and pub with character.

Walked into the Brickmakers, turned left into what was a very empty room. Half a dozen tables, empty, very cold and almost looked liked a closed cafe. No life in it at all. Walked through to the rear, which looked like the main lounge. Locals seemed friendly, nice bar looked well stocked. Unfortunately, the staff lacked bar experience. I had to ask for the proper glass for my drink, however, they were friendly and apologised.

The new owners apparently said they would honour all existing bookings. I was due to play at a private party on the 16th of December. The new owner has cancelled that booking at very short notice on the hear say of someone else. If you intend on booking a room and holding an event here I would suggest have a plan B as this guy is not a man of his word.

Absolutely disgusted with the new owners. Xmas party booked for 16th Dec 2023 with previous owner as last years event was brilliant, new one said they would honour all bookings. Party confirmed weekend of the 9th/10th Dec by new owner, phone call to the organiser a couple of days later cancelling the booking. Won't be using this place again!

We booked a private party for our very friendly and diverse group, with two overnight stays and musicians booked to play. Phoned 3 days ago, everything fine then contacted today by the owners and told that we have been cancelled, 4 days notice! Out of pocket and Xmas party plans ruined. The reason given was that some locals did not hold our views and the pub wished not to be associated with us. How nice! As a customer check before booking in case your opinions do not align with the owners, (whatever they might be?)

A very pretty pub which looks like a gem from the outside. The food was average - nachos, a brie and cranberry baguette which was more like cranberry with a touch of brie (whoever made this needs to consider the balance needed with these ingredients!) and bruschetta which was unrecognisable as bruschetta... We genuinely thought it was prawn cocktail based on appearance. Poor communication from kitchen to waiting staff to customer- when the nachos came we were told they were out of guacamole (listed on the menu as part of the meal). Not good enough but okay - won't hurry back.

Sorry to report that this lunch was one of the worst ever. However, in case the staff wonder why we didn't complain at the time, we were very tired and not feeling up to a confrontation so we just ate what we could and then left. Suffice to say, the 'steak and ale' pie filling was like a very peppery vegetable stew, thickened with cornflour, with a few bits of steak thrown in, some of which were like rubber. If we were expecting a rich ale gravy, there wasn't one. On a positive note, the pastry top was okay. The chip wedges were dry and tasteless, apart from an overwhelming coating of seasalt that made them almost inedible. As for vegetables, the broccoli was flaccid, watery and lukewarm. Oh dear! It was otherwise a very nice pub serving good real ale. Pity about the not good food.

It is so rare that you find a lovely pub, fantastic food and drink and absolutely amazing staff! I’ve recently moved to Balsall Common and have now taken my father to this Gem of a pub twice. The lady behind the bar is ridiculously hospitable. Taking our drinks to our table, talking about the food and even coming to ask us if we would like more drinks. This truely is a rare find….. upon going back today the lady remembered us, our drinks, our previous food order. This is what I wanted from my new local. And I’m so thrilled I’ve found it.

Date Saturday 19 Dec 2020. Deciding to support local business during Covid lockdown, we decided to order beer battered fish, hand cut chips with mushy peas, tartar sauce with garlic bread. I elected to collect. The meal was a few minutes late but I didn’t expect it bang on time. The member of staff who served me was very polite, the food was well packaged and hot. When served the fish was excellent but sadly, I cannot say anything nice about the rest of the meal. The chips were definitely NOT hand cut, and I doubt I could have purchased potatoes in such a scabby condition. Most were left as they were over cooked. The garlic bread was inedible due to being well over cooked to the point of being brittle. Bearing in mind I arrived 5 minutes early to collect there seems no logical reason for the chips and garlic bread to be over cooked. I very much doubt I will use their service again.

I stopped at the Brickmakers Arms on Monday looking for somewhere to put my head down whilst working away, doing long hours this week. I was greeted by Chris and his wife who own it, i was made to feel welcomed instantly and not only did I get a bed to slee but it turns out to be somewhere where I could also call ahead on my way back from the hard days work, order dinner and have it ready for me as I arrived back. The food was so good I eat there every night and even de-toured back there for my lunch, the ribeye steak was to die for! And everything is home backed/cooked. Although I only spent an hour or so in the pub/restaurant every night before crashing out to sleep, I really enjoyed the feel, friendliness of everyone there, locals and visitors alike. Many thanks to Chris for making our stay at this lovely quirky pub. Being dog friendly made it a pleasure to stay here as both staff and customers were happy to make friends with my dog Baxter which made such a difference as some places that say dog friendly still manage to make you feel uncomfortable. The food was delicious and very reasonable, and I was able to prise a recipe for the halloumi from Chris who has the personality and charisma to make your evening special. Handling things with humour and efficiency nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are quite small but quirky and have all that you need. There is a great park nearby to exercise your dog. Train station and small village within easy walking distance. In all a great place to stay, one warning, book early as only has a few rooms but worth the effort. The small car park being near empty on a Sunday lunchtime should have been the warning sign.Lovely from the outside and really nice decor. That's where the positives end.So it took nearly an hour for the main courses to come. My wife's fish finger baguette looked like a bake at home bread with value fish fingers inside. My chilli arrived after nearly everyone else had finished their mains. It would be great to say that the chilli was full of flavour, luscious and packed a bit of heat. But it was quite the opposite. We stopped at The Brickmakers Arms as a break in our journey having had a look around the area on line for places to eat. Walking in it is like going back in time to the way that pubs used to be before the days of big screen tv's and loud music. It has a very homely feel to the pub and although there was a tv showing football the sound was down low so you could have a conversation without having to raise your voice. The food was good - can recommend both the steak and the gammon steak as well as an apple and blackcurrant crumble that was absolutely delicious - and the service excellent. No onion chuckney with the camembert, waiter said it didn't come with any, but when they checked the menu, was proved wrong. To be fair he shouldn't have been put in that position, he is not the one making the food. After the starters, we were told there were no chunky chips! A massive thank you to Chris at the Brickies who hosted my partners 30th Birthday party for 70 people. Firstly the venue and catering were competitively priced, with Chris willing to amend the menu to meet our needs. Leading up to the event Chris was really helpful with guidance around catering and offering to supply a DJ if required. Finally on the big day itself, without prompt Chris took the balloons and banners we had dropped off the night before and decorated the room. Throughout the night the staff were all really helpful and bent over backwards to meet our needs and that of our guest. As for the catering, wow the BBQ food was amazing, the meatiest burgers I have ever had, all served with a smile. As for the children, they weren’t forgotten, Chris supplied a number of outdoor games to keep them entertained and we had full use of the rear beer garden as well as the rear room. What a lovely night, really pleased we chose the Brickies and would fully recommend them if you are looking for a venue for a party/celebration in the Balsall Common/Berkswell area. We would definitely hold another party there.

Went for a meal after a couple of hours' walk in the countryside around Berkswell one rainy afternoon and generally enjoyed the experience. Building is clean and tidy and partly very old with exposed beams and thick walls, with a modern part attached to the rear. Not too many people inside, some children making a bit of noise at the back but we were sat at the front bay window so this didn't disturb us! Plenty of light bites and burgers, jackets etc on the menu but being a Sunday my father ordered a pork roast and me the vegetarian option of a cheese and broccoli pastry, the staff were very friendly and offered to open a tab for us which we did. Food took a long while to come but this is stated on the menu during the wait someone came to check we were okay and told us that my tart was being made from scratch, which was impressive. The food itself was good, crisp roast potatoes, a small Yorkshire and assorted veg, Dad found the meat a bit dry (no gravy boat) but my tart was delicious, ine of the best vegetarian options I've tasted for a while. The dessert menu is limited but we had slabs of cappucino cake with ice cream and overall with drinks the meal came to £34, which I felt was pretty reasonable (main course £10). Service was friendly and relaxed throughout. Overall this is better than the Bulls Head in nearby Meriden (overpriced, average food) and a non pretentious, independent pub that could do a lot more business on a rainy Sunday than it seemed to be doing when we visited! Would recommend.

Great pub, charming hosts. Good beer on tap. Home cooked food. They also offer afternoon tea. New management with a fresh approach.

Coffee✔️ Service✔️ Surroundings 🤨 Please, please, please will you refurbish this shop! It has been shabby inside and out for far too long and I’m not tempted to go again.

Awful. The hygiene is disgraceful. We were tormented by tiny black flies, the table was full of crumbs and the toilets were a health hazard.

RockinWarren was booked to play live music here. A local pub, great customers and some serious music lovers. The staff very friendly, nice place. We recommened this place to play at or visit. There is an onsite car park. Easy access into the pub and a nice area to set up and play in. Thank you for having us, we hope to be invited back some time. Great venue

Ideal situation in middle of Mell Sq, v busy, v friendly service, ate bacon bap and sausages in sourdough toast, large portions and v tasty, reasonable price, could not fault and will revisit.
