As I've said elsewhere, we meet old friends (nearly 60 years, now!) for lunch every few weeks, & we like to do so at a venue roughly halfway between our homes. We change that venue every so often, & our latest one is the Red Lion in Hunningham, not very far from Leamington Spa. Its nice & rural, set by a river, & is used by all sorts, - walkers, locals, & travellers like us. There's a big car-park, & lots of room inside. The staff are friendly & efficient, & the facilities are clean. The menu isn't huge, which we think is good, & there's enough on it for anyone to have a good choice. We lunched on a Saturday, because we'd found that a lot of places concentrate on roasts on a Sunday, & we wanted a bit of variety. Two of us started with coconut & red pepper soup, & the other two had mushrooms on some toast with a creamy sauce. Self & wife went for a sharing meat-platter, & one friend had Macaroni cheese. Our fourth chose Tuna, and we were all very happy with what we got. We paid about £63 per couple, which included a couple of pints of bitter, & coffee or tea afterwards, - not outlandish in this day & age. There is a large TV screen in the bar area for those who's interest is sport, but its not intrusive. We're booked to return there in June, & are already looking forward to it. Recommended.

Been going to this pub for years, never had such a bad food as today. The occasional flat cider or beer, once twice couple of times but food wise it was ok most of the times. Today however had the most disappointing food. It took about 2 h to arrive. The driest and most plain beef burger, the only reason I didn’t give it back is because I was starving! Sunday roast pork belly came right after the third attempt, first two times staff brought beef roast and even argued it is pork! Low expectations generally from a pub burger but not from this place, this one today was the worst 18£ burger ever, surely won’t eat there again! It’s a shame for the location but food seems to get lower and lower quality every visit so might find another pub for a sunny Sunday..

I used to frequent this pub before leamington was quite so in trend and used to milk big naughty Friesans just up the road! Happy days and so very proud to bring my older wife and her ex husband’s dog for a bite to eat . Gorgeous day so the riverside garden was heaving but the staff were excellent and the food really jolly very good despite some previous reviews. Got into a bit of an argument with my wife with the usual debate of walk or taxi afterwards ! But can’t blame the staff for my marriage choice . Overall go and enjoy , coincidentally last time I was in there I wore overalls (John Deere ones ). Anyway off to make an Easter bonnet. Enjoy !

We had a large party booked in for my 40th (much to my surprise!) and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and organised, they were fantastic! Food orders were booked in advance and as soon as we were all there and seated, it wasn't long before the food was being brought out to us, all cooked to perfection! They were incredibly accommodating, friendly, and helpful. The grounds are great for kids to run around in, particularly on a spring or summer's evening. I'd highly recommend The Red Lion, Hunningham!

This place was a wonderful surprise. Went with my dad and brothers for the first time in 40 odd years. Food was excellent, I had the pizza romana which was spot on and the fish and chips looked good and my it was good value at a tenner with a Prosecco! Nice ambience and service was excellent. Our waitress was Kate who had a smashing personality and we had some laughs with. The old boy was well impressed (he is 87), in fact we all were and we will be back. Keep doing what you are doing!

Since we have loved here this place has been through a few incarnations but the food and service we received when we went there this weekend was by far the best and one of the most well accomplished Sunday lunches we have had - everyone finished their massive portions (see pictures) The key lime pie was the only odd thing - the strawberry almost completely covered the lime taste but the pie was good without it. 100% recommend

We decided to have Sunday lunch at the Red Lion at Hunningham this weekend. Situated in the countryside near a narrow bridge with a lovely stream. Sadly it was pouring down with rain and very windy. The interior was lovely and warm, cosy and bright. The styling is wonderful and the separate areas allow you to choose what suits you best. The middle area had a TV screen (sadly I dislike TVs when Im out eating). We were seated in the side area which was better for us. I had a few issues with the glasses of red wine but the staff were helpful and professional and I enjoyed the final glass thankfully. My friend enjoyed her white pinot grigio wine. We ordered the chicken and the beef. WOW what a lovely plate full of food. Must have been my unlucky day mine was tepid on arrival. Again the staff were helpful and professional and the issue was swiftly resolved. The food was lovely. Strangely I really enjoyed the way they cooked the cabbage. It gave it a really great flavour and texture. The roast potatoes and parsnip were crunchy and tasty. Honestly we normally go to the Stag at Offchurch (no longer running) this was better. Only improvement in my opinion is the gravy. However I could have upgraded, for a price, to the red wine jus. Great interior, staff, wine and food. Looking forward to returning

Impromptu stop for lunch whilst in the area. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Asked if they had availability and a highchair for an 11 month old and by the time I'd gone back to the car to fetch the rest of the family they had set our table and put a high-chair out. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was delivered in a very reasonable time and was very nice. Price was a little high but this seems to be the norm these days. Pizza deal (2 pizzas and 2 drinks for £20) was a very good idea and well received. Nice to support local pubs rather than (rip-off) food chains!!

MrsC and I continued our plod, pie and a pint routine following a successful trip to the Peaks for our kick-off session. We decided to trawl more local circular walks as long as there was a pub somewhere in the mix that, ideally, was dog friendly and had some vegan scran on the menu. After much head scratching we decided on a short 30 min drive across the county border and a circular 7 mile hike beginning and ending at The Red Lion @ Hunningham. We booked ahead to make sure the dogs could be accommodated and they knew, in advance, we were vegan. Come the day, though, we mixed it up as the walk was quite low lying and the rain had sheeted down for days beforehand. So to compensate we yomped the hounds around Pitsford Water, tucked them in at home and hightailed it to take up our booking to save sloshing into the pub with muddy wet dogs and similarly coated owners. The car park was pretty stacked for a Thursday lunchtime but we managed to park up and enter bang on time. The pub itself has extensive grounds and appears to try to appeal to all. There’s a large pub garden that runs parallel, on one side, with the River Leam and is further abutted by the main village road. There’s a marquee affair close to the entrance and askance to the garden which looked like it has its own bar area and seating (presumably for when the English weather allows). Impressively, in tandem with the cycle stands, there appears to be a hitching rail so both deux chevaux can be accommodated within the car park and without. On entering there’s a nice touch with doggie accoutrements (including blankets) available from two baskets. We wandered in and advised the FoH that we’d booked but were now sans hounds. There ensued an uncomfortable to and fro as she seemed unable to equate our surname nor the booked two hounds to the booking; asking at one point, to MrsC, Stephen? Nonetheless we were swiftly despatched to a table for two at the rear of the flagstoned bar next to a warming radiator with a “reserved” sign thereon so all was well. To the nub. We were both glad that we had left the hounds asleep at home. The table was fine for the two of us but we would have struggled to keep our two medium sized dogs from spilling over into the walkway though, fortuitously, it looked like they would have only been affecting the table of three behind us as there were no other pooches elsewhere to be distracted by. We felt a little at odds with the other guests as the rest of the pub seemed populated by business lunchers and well dressed couples; less walkers and their mutts. It will sound churlish but the interior had the feel of a “chain pub” and didn’t feel enveloping and welcoming nor classic country pub. The service was warm and efficient at all times but there wasn’t that “pull” that made you want to kick back and chill for a couple of hours. In fact we timed our entire visit at a smidge over 32 minutes which probably says it all. MrsC had a simple large Americano/black coffee whilst I partook of a well kept pint of Wainwright Amber (which presumably is now made just down from us since Marstons brewery interests are with Carlsberg). We both followed with the vegan “Pie of the Day”, which transpired to be spicy lentil and cauliflower; served with mashed potato, winter greens and gravy. In truth ,though a hearty enough slug of winter comfort food, it was flat and uninspiring. The pie had the look of a wholesale standard and was bland; lacking the flavour of cauliflower and spice and was consequently disappointing. The mash and cabbage were more flavourful though the vegan gravy was a tad watery. The visit was a bit flat and has been rated accordingly though I guess if you visited in the height of summer the result might have been different. We wouldn’t return but try others instead still in search of that nostalgic hug of a walkers pub.

Started great, friendly waitress, shown to our table drinks & ordered. Waited slightly too long for our drinks but eventually they came..all good. Food ordered 8x Sunday lunches plus 1x child Sunday lunch, 4x cauliflower cheese & 2xpigs in blankets. Food arrived within 10-15 minutes of ordering…but…5 out of 9 meals stone cold! Other 4 were warm & that’s being generous! 5 meals sent back, returned 5 minutes later…but…warm at best!!!! Quality of beef was poor, it was supposed to be sirloin, the fat content was NOT consistent with any sirloin I’ve ever had. The roast potatoes were small, soft & greasy, the parsnip raw & the charred sweetheart cabbage was raw but burnt on the outside. Very very poor. 3 of us had 3 roast main ..chicken leg was overcooked, dry & tasteless. To be fair the manager did send a bottle of ‘house red’ over by way of apology..although nothing of the same quality of the Merlot we were drinking. We were all a still a bit hungry so 7 of us tentatively ordered cheese/desserts. These were all fine however. Bill arrived but they had failed to take the £90 deposit paid & had the cheek to add on a service charge! However, this was rectified immediately when we spoke to the waitress. Overall a poor experience (felt embarrassed actually as it was a special family occasion). Would no way recommend this place to eat, there are far better places in the area to eat & drink.. & that’s exactly where we will spend our money next time.

VERY POOR OFFERS ARE NOT HONOURED BEWARE!! Please see photo attached clearly stating 50%off food mon-Thurs before 5.30 as you can see they knocked a ‘fiver off’ because it was a so called steak Wednesday. I get that but we booked this table two weeks in advance to redeem the 50% off as stated. This is clearly false advertising and we will be taking this further with the brewery and trading standards. I suggest you cancel our booking for 7th march safe to say we won’t be returning. Although the food was ok the attitude of their staff was concerning when up against a very argumentative staff member Please see photo of bill along with menu attached. This post is not here to discriminate but to make other people aware. Such a shame we must do atleast £2000 annually with this place if not more when we bring friends and family in the summer. I can’t believe this is how you repay loyalty

Cool on a hot day, excellent choice of beers, very helpful staff, well worth finding. The ice cream honeycomb and chocolate mint excellent and very reasonably priced. Salad with the ploughman’s lunch superb, and smoked cheddar an imaginative choice.

Rude and aggressive manager, When we were at the bar he treated his staff with utter contempt and was happy to swear behind the bar about how his problems were someone else's issues. We were planning to have lunch but his childish, rude and petulant manner resulted in us having our drinks and leaving. I pity the staff that have to work for that man. A very unpleasant individual that should respect his staff not bully and be disrespectful to them especially not in front of customers. A nice setting but he lost our custom on the spot. Even as locals we will not be returning, until he is gone.

Lovely alfresco dining, went for Sunday lunch. Gluten free options were just to remove things from the plate, hence the 4, otherwise the food was tasty.

There were 19 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food and service. I had the bass which was delicious and my friends loved the Roast. We were visiting the nearby campsite and am sure we will be back again. Very friendly and helpful!

Beside the Stratford-upon-Avon canal, sit inside or out. Beer and food very nice. Have a stroll along the canal.

The food was excellent, I mean absolutely lovely level excellent. Most of all though I would like to extend my thanks to the very attentive, friendly and helpful bar person (a young lad called Kaitlin). She was a delight, always smiling, nothing was too much trouble and she was so nice to my noisy grandson. We're already planning our return even though it's not exactly local to us.
