The restaurant felt cosy and inviting, as usual, which was welcome on a fresh autumn day. The food was tasty, nicely cooked and good value, although we were able to take advantage of a discount voucher. I drank real ale with my lunch. This has been well kept, but was quite expensive. Our waitress, Kathy, was friendly, attentive and engaging.

We arranged a group of 20 for my Mums 80th Birthday lunch. There was a mixture of guests from 10years old to 95year olds. The restaurant was able to cater for us all. The staff were really helpful and really worked hard with allot of respect and thought. I really want to thank Kathy and Jaydee for being there and looking after the guests. 10/10!! The only slight down fall was the pre meal order. We were asked to get everyone's food requests/ allergies etc in advance of the booking, but due to a technical issue they didn't receive this. However, the restaurant pulled it out of the bag at the last moment. And the whole event without a hitch. So so impressed. Thank you to all involved, kitchen, front of house etc. My mum has a wonderful time, thanks to you. :)

Came to the Red Lion for drinks on Saturday night and had a great experience! Good selection of beers, wines and cocktails, great service and a nice environment. Had a very warm welcome from Erika who made our night!

We had a really lovely afternoon at the Red Lion in Digswell Hill on Sunday. As the weather was so good, we sat outside hoping we didn’t make a mistake and have to keep reminding staff we were there! We didn’t!! The service was brilliant, food was amazing and came out hot like it had just been cooked. My husband had the rump of lamb, my son had the trio of roasts and I had the sea bass. All plates were empty at the end of the meal. We all finished with coffee and a complimentary macaroon. Thank you to all the amazing staff who got everything right, despite it being so busy!

Lana & Alfie provided excellent service, getting all the drinks and food order spot on for 9 of us. The food came out quick and hot and was great. Highly recommend.

Busy on a Saturday lunchtime as you would expect on a sunny dat but service pretty dreadful. Enough waiting staff but probably not enough kitchen staff. Waited almost an hour for main course, not having had a starter. Three out of four of us had the fish and chips, which were really not up to much. Small piece of cod with an huge amount of batter. The fourth person had the sea bass, which was very dry. Not somewhere we would return to even though the pub is local to where we live.

Where do you start service was about a 8/10, the food was lovely but for a Sunday lunch extremely small, 2 small roast potatoes for grown men is ridiculously small and not fulfilling,at £20+ a head it was such a shame as it was really nice food but everyone was still hungry who had the roast that’s disappointing when it’s a special occasion

Found the management on shift pretty rude and incompetent. I was served a Baileys latte plonked on the bar just the glass no saucer, spoon etc - which when you’re paying around £5 for a Coffee to have after dinner you expect atleast a little bit of effort. It took forever to get any service for a night that wasn’t that busy and she did not consider our presence then rudely said “I’ll be with you in a minute” in a brash tone. My friend when she ordered the food also witnessed her rudely speak to one of the staff about providing us with cutlery and refusing to do so herself - though the food took a long time luckily it was adequate though we did have to ask for one of our meals that never came out and was questioned if we was sure we ordered it. I am fond of the pub and used to work here myself so I am very aware of the standards expected by the Customer and have now found it now met by this particular member of management every time I have visited.

The food is always lovely and the service was brilliant. Our Hostess Austeja couldn’t do enough for us! Would also recommend the Red Lion if you are hosting a birthday or any other special event!

Went here for lunch and the service was absolutely fantastic. Manager in the glasses was brilliant she recommended their panzanella salad with garlic prawns and safe to say I will be coming back for it! My husband had the steak pie which is not flaky thank god!!! Amazing food and atmosphere!

The place is great for dogs, my kids and I had a great lunch. Kiran was great with the kids she spared no expense in making sure we had everything we needed. Need more like her in other places.

Came for the cocktails and we weren’t let down! Manager behind the bar with the glasses was great help and gave us a nice show while we watched her make them for us! Really nice place and vibe going around, definitely recommend!

We were sat by the stairs which I do not recommend. Too much traffic going by but we complained to manager Kieran she was super friendly throughout and moved us instantly. Everything after that was brilliant the service was excellent, food was of good portion and was quite good. The music was a little loud but rest of the atmosphere was great.

We came Easter Lunch Time and was served by Naomi. who was very pleasant. The only down side was the table was sticky and their was no mustard or any salt n pepper not the usual standards. The dinner was served, the vegetables on the Chicken Roast was not very hot.

Sadly our whole experience was rather disappointing. Although the menu looked fairly comprehensive the availability was almost comedic. Lots of items were not available on both the main meals and dessert menus. We asked for a jug of tap water which never arrived. The coffee was late in coming and we had to ask several times. Fortunately the food was tasty although the portions were questionable … for the price of the sausage and mash we would have expected three sausages. The fish was covered in far too much salt and the actual fish was very thin. The young man who served us was a joy although we felt he had been ‘thrown in the deep end’ somewhat and was floundering at times. Not his fault…. More a case of lack of training. Would we return - sadly probably not.

Nice pub restaurant and friendly staff let down by the food. The squid in black pepper was too dry with only a teaspoon of mayo squashed flat on the plate. Two party members had cod and chips but there would be more fish in a fishfinger and the batter extremely greasy and over bearing. Chips either not fresh or refried too much and so very dry on the inside. Accompanying pea puree minimal and tasteless. For the amount of money spent this was a disappointment thankfully my party was not.

Booked breakfast for 9.00am. At 9.00am the front door was locked and still hadn’t been opened at 9.06am. It was raining so rather than stand around we drove somewhere else for breakfast.
