The Sunday roast is superb- great quality food and huge portions! The pork belly is delicious, and my husband’s beef was beautiful. Lovely staff too- really friendly and welcoming.

Pleasant trad boozer on the edge of the jewellery Quarter, lovely beer garden to rear. Jules beer not a personal fav of mine but tasted well kept.

We only stopped here for a drink. The young man behind the bar was very friendly and I didn't expect the lovely garden at the back of the pub, a really nice place to sit have your drink and relax before heading back out to the shops

Food is delicious and servings are very decent, you won't be disappointed. I especially liked the variety of roasts on the menu. Only criticism is the actual decor is a bit run down, we thought we had the wrong place, it just felt dated. It wasn't full but we assumed it was related to the football finals. We were sat in the bar area and didn't see the rest but in general felt dated. I had the lamb and beef combo, I didn't finish it

Love coming here for a drink! The food and drinks are great and can’t complain about the price. Special shout out to Billy the bartender, such a lovely guy and such a vibe! Really made the night for us :) definitely will be coming back for the quiz night

I like Red Lion as a pub for drinks, it has cute little beer garden and a terrace. But the food was a huge disappointment, as well as the service… Went for a Sunday roast which first of all was extremely overpriced! I was shocked to realise what we were paying for such a poor plate of food in a simple pub like this like it’s a fancy restaurant. A couple of friends were extremely disappointed about it since they got the tiniest portion of chicken in their roast, like it’s from a kids menu. One of the servers was also rude and annoyed, and kept making mistakes with our drinks or forgetting to bring them. We felt bad just for being there and bothering him on his work day… On top of all that, I ordered a vegetarian plate which made me gag after finding a piece of chicken between my vegetables! I didn’t want to raise an argument there but still had to tell one of the staff members. After telling one server about it and saying I hoped I didn’t accidentally eat any, he just replied ‘well yeah let’s hope you didn’t eat any!’. That’s it. Like it happens. Might go back there for drinks but definitely not food.

Billy was an absolute gigachad of a man, sorted us out, made us off menu cocktails, changed the music and everything. Absolute legend

Couldn't fault The Red Lion. Superb traditional pub, lovingly renovated in a both modern and yet traditional style. Friendly bar staff, friendly locals, great beer and really good food. Well done guys!!

I have no problem paying for quality, I have no problem paying for an experience, I have no problem paying for convenience. But this place. You need to be hard up for a beer to go in here.

Went for Sunday lunch today and it was absolutely superb 🤩 All fresh ingredients and cooked beautifully, I ordered the belly pork and was extremely happy with my choice Highly recommend the cauliflower cheese Mmmm 😋 delicious Will definitely be returning Maybe a little more expensive than some pub Sunday roasts, but you get what you pay for, and it was certainly worth it

Great meal…. Not the cheapest but definitely amazing quality. The old adage of get what you pay for 😍 lovely staff and the owner gave us a mini tour and made us all very welcome. Had the Sunday roast (takeaway containers available as they offer a healthy and tasty portion) will definitely be returning !

I hadn't been here for a while and the pub now belongs to the small independent Joules brewery. Traditional bar and old fashioned back room lounge with a large fireplace. Well kept ales served by friendly and patient staff. There was a large group of us but no problem at all. We sat outside where there is a small and pleasant sun trap garden. A nice pub definitely worth a stop.

Great lunch Sunday, fresh vegetables and big portion of beef, there was also a good choice of other meats. Helpful staff in nicely renovated pub.

It was ok we enjoyed our evening

Had a lovely lunch with the one and only grant! Our barman, perfect gentleman, showed us where to go to smoke, toilets etc, as we are pension age. My brother recommended the red lion for food and he wasn't wrong! Double cooked chips! Crispy on the outside, nice and fluffy centre, club sandwich amazing, grant the angel bought us boxes for what we couldn't eat. We will be back! Excellent service off grant, what a lovely lad! Had a great afternoon making memories x

Came with a table of 11, absolutely fantastic service start to finish. Its the second time I've been there for a Sunday roast and to be quite frank its up there with the best I've had. Cant fault the venue nor staff

Came for a late Sunday dinner. It was ace. We were served by Kerry and she went over and above. There was also a Sunday quiz, we didn’t take part but it seemed great fun.

The Sunday was spectacular… never had a roast like that before in my life. Beef and lamb was amazing. Meat stuffing was out of this world will be back again for sure 10/10

We visited as a group of 30 today - had pre booked so went in the upstairs room which has its own bar. We pre ordered so food came out quite smoothly. Staff were lovely! High recommend.

Arranged Christmas lunch there for 13 people. What can I say, Arron was super helpful and the staff were really good. I would go back and everyone was really happy with the lunch.

Booked a table for a Sunday roast specifically - as requested when selecting which menu for the booking. Upon arrival we were showed to our table, which hadn’t been cleaned yet. Once that was sorted we waited about 15 mins for someone to come and take our order. I asked for the duo of beef, to be told they were out of the duo. I then asked for the sirloin roast, to be told there was no sirloin. The waiter then left to see what was substituted in the trio and when he returned stated they were out of roasts completely. Very frustrating that this wasn’t conveyed straight off the bat when we arrived and baffling that a pub could be out of the roast on a Sunday; The one day when you would surely endeavour to make sure that you had ample stock. Suffice to say, we left, feeling very disappointed and frustrated. A waste of time and a waste of petrol.

A lovely Sunday Dinner for a family of 4. Generous portions. My kids (8 and 11) love it here. They especially like the apple pie.

AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE & NO FOOD! I visited the Red Lion, JQ Birmingham today with a college, it’s our regular lunch spot, and ordered Fish & Chips. After waiting 55 minutes – asking several times “any idea how long the food be?” It finally arrived. However, on arrival it was actually Halloumi & Chips so I called the waiter back and asked for the meal to be corrected, and get Fish & Chips. The waiter said he would check with the kitchen what had happened. However, on his return he said it would be another 15 minutes, by which time my lunch break would be well over, and my colleague was halfway through his lunch) so I asked for a refund instead. The waiter thought he’d refunded my Fish & Chips, but instead had charged me again so I had to go back and show him my online bank statement to finally get the money back – twice! So after being in the pub for 1hour and 15 mins I left having not eaten, with no apology or compensation. Disgracefully, the waiter didn’t even offer to take my colleagues meal or drinks off the bill as a gesture of good will. As a business we’ve been going to the Red Lion for over 10 years, but we will not be returning under this ownership. Really disappointing service and visit!

Wow, a Sunday roast to travel for, staff are friendly and welcoming, if I could travel 100+ miles every Sunday for a roast like this I definitely would, quality and quantity was worth every pound. I look forward trying there daily menu when I'm next in town.

The Red Lion is a fascinating little pub, which has stood for a long time, previously under Banks's, now Punch Taverns. So it has a quaint little front bar room dripping with historical decor. But also a screen for sport. A jolly gay barman kindly gave me a guided tour of the premises, through a pretty rear snug and upstairs to an unexpected dining room. He and his lanky colleague told me the building has always been a pub and that it has a ghost. Maybe that's why they serve Adnams Ghost Ship, of which I drank two good pints, I said, "Maybe the ghost is someone who got banned." A local, drinking Inch's cider, said he'd seen taps go off, glasses break, and doors close for no reason. He later gave vent to some racist remarks about Shard End. But he believes in ghosts, so I took that in the spirit it deserved.

Just had what is probably one of the best Sunday roast dinners I've had in Birmingham. Huge portions and very well cooked. The choice on the menu was quite extensive it would suit the majority of diners. We would definitely return and would recommend the Red Lion.

I went here from a recommendation and had a table booked for 6.30 on a Sunday which as you can imagine for Sunday roast, was a bit late but the option was there and was able to grab two pork roast dinners from coming back from holiday. Didn’t have a problem with the pork belly or the Yorkshire but that was about it. Potatoes weren’t roasted just potato-ey and the veg was basically frozen so very disappointing and don’t think I would recommend anything bad the Guinness which was tolerable.

The Sunday lunch here is AMAZING. We love it as our local pub and feel very lucky to have it on our doorstep. Staff are kind and make sure the football is always on!

I visited this restaurant for Sunday roast after being recommended. I was quite expensive however the price done it service. I happen to have had Lamb and Beef combination. It was delicious will visit again when in Birmingham

I went on Sunday 20th August for lunch, with family. The service was dire. We ordered the roast belly pork and were asked to let the barman know where we were sitting. We found a table and I went back to the bar to inform them. There were 2 barmen and neither seemed attentive. After 20 minutes my cousin said I should go and check if they've placed our order as people were coming in after us, carrying wooden spoons with numbers on. Anyway they hadn't placed the order and we waited an hour for our meal. It wasn't busy but these guys either didn't know what they were doing or didn't care. There was a third guy who appeared to be bringing meals out and he seemed a lot more pleasant, helpful and 'on the ball'. The meal thankfully was superb apart from the roast potatoes which were quite tasteless. Gorgeous belly pork, large Yorkshire Pud, ample variety of veg and great gravy with apple sauce. We will go again but will find a table before ordering. Poor wine selection. Great value for £15

Awful Sunday ‘roast’, lamb braised not roasted, beef tough as old boots, watery gravy, pale roasters. So disappointing. I’ll stick with Toby Carvery, much superior food and cheaper.

Their Sunday roasts are the best in Birmingham and one of the best ive ever had. Fairly priced and you get loads for your money. Good for a cheeky pint too.

Oh dear. What has happened to this little gem? Having moved out of the area it was our first visit back to what was a regular haunt pre COVID. Cosmetically nothings changed but where have the real ales gone? Sunday lunch was OK, but not as good as it used to be. There were a few people in the outdoor area but hardly anyone inside. Laine Pubs, you've turned it into something it was never meant to be. Such a shame.

Try and make time to eat here on a Sunday for lunch every couple of months. Traditional Sunday Roast which never disappoints. I’ve tried all of the different meats and it’s been great all the time. I think the prices are good for a restaurant in Birmingham and recommend this if you are nearby. Booking recommended

This is my first visit to this pub, we were greeted like old friends , food amazing, portions beyond generous, we had a fussy eater in our party and staff happy to add and remove things from the menu! The outside area was lovely, TV for those bothered about such things I will return!

Visited with a friend with a view to having a couple of beers and eat. However, the place was soulless. Hardly any customers. Asked what ales were available. Only one as other was off. The second was Abbott Ale and that tasted awful so returned...

More than what it looks. Get past the traditional looking local atmosphere of the front and back room and out to the garden areas. Quite quiet for a Sunday lunch and only a handful of people serving with only one behind the bar. Some food too a little longer than others meaning a couple had finished but just put this down to understaffed rather than skill or no care in service! The food was absolutely fantastic and massive portions as well, a really good pork belly and beef and chicken were also good. I barely finished my plate there was so much, would definitely come again.

Nice beer garden but very expensive drinks. Was there on a Saturday evening had one drink, very quiet perhaps with inflation now dropping places will begin to drop their prices to get people coming back in.

Good prices for the Jewellery Quarter. Food was great - tasty, good portions but not overly huge. Lunch offer is worthwhile. Friendly staff - helpful, not intrusive. Outside area is large and clean.

Best Sunday dinner in Brum.., period!

Havnt been since the 2nd lockdown till yesterday for Sunday lunch, it didn't let me down, fantastic as always great service, will be going back more now for food....UPDATE Unfortunately we went in on Saturday 13th may 23, menus out.. Refused food as they had a party on, kitchen couldn't cope with both, poor service, staff were polite about it, don't put menus out or get more staff if are want to hold events on, so now goes from 5 star down to 2 star. Won't be going back

We visited the red lion for Sunday lunch. Wow - absolutely beautiful dinner, great service. The meat was fabulous, huge Yorkshire and all the trimmings. Nice sides on offer too. Good value, possibly the best Sunday linch I’ve had out.

Cozy pub, friendly staff, with a back garden

Stayed local for a few days for work and popped in a few nights. Bar man on duty absolutely killed it every night. Music was great never waited more than a minute for drinks and the place was spotless. What a great pub.

Turned up after booking for the Sunday roast really disappointed after waiting about 30mins to even get served a drink when our lamb roast came out was served with chips no Yorkshire no roast potatoes no mash no mint sauce it was by far the worst meal I ever had on my birthday. I really had high hopes if I could take the one star away I would DO BETTER blaming the manger who the was not in on the day for not ordering enough produce. Honestly, vibes were good and the bar tender, James was so friendly made my experience 10x better. Also loved the throwback music made the vibes even better

Poor communication and management. I had my child’s 3rd birthday party meal booked with them months in advance and just week before the meal on me ringing up to check about highchairs they tell me I’m cancelled due double booking. Now I’m rushing around trying...

Good selection of beers, food is decent and there is a nice garden out the back. Not the best pub in Birmingham but there are far worse places you could get a pint from!

Proper traditional pub. Good selection of beers , cosy atmosphere, friendly staff . Good choice of background music ie 60s 70s. & 80s if you are a certain age.

Was recommended as somewhere to eat, tbh without that I would have walked straight by and not gone in, barstaff very friendly and food was some of the nicest I've had, better than alot of so called restaurants 6*
