Service was friendly, if a little too fast. Drinks and poppadoms coming quickly was good, but starters came almost immediately and mains as the starters were taken away. Car park is really small. Not only does that mean few spaces, it also means that you have to try and navigate pass cars trying to get in, whilst you’re trying to get out after not finding a spot. Food was tasty. Lamb chops were a little bit small.

Always wanted to visit and saw all the trip advisor mixed reviews. So… firstly the service was fab…Taz our waiter was on the ball, drinks were ordered and served within 5 minutes. Food not far behind, but was fresh and sizzling. We ordered the Wagon sizzling grill, Bhuna sauce and naan bread. Amazing food and value for money. Definitely recommend

A great balance of indo British food & Indian taste. I think both will love it, Indians & brits. I keep revisiting, every time i am very satisfied with taste & service. Its just on weekends drunk goras could be very noisy, so if u want a peaceful place, then this is not the best place to be. But I think thats expected from a pub..

Incredible food and a vast selection to choose from, especially if you're vegan. Not the usual standard starters and mains here, instead a wonderfully diverse array of Indian delicacies, chockful of flavour, tantalisingly tasty and with very generous portions. This is food of the highest order. The service is great too, fast and efficient but friendly. A good selection of drinks and tasteful decor. It gets VERY busy here, so would advise booking in advance on a weekend. Highly recommended 👌

First words from the waiter we need the table back at 8pm - I say can I order a drink please? Rushes service seems like they want you in, want your money and then get you out as quickly as possible. Ordered starters and were being forced to orders mains at the same time we had only been there for 10mins. At 19.30 while we were still eating we got asked if we want boxes for take away almost suggesting we had, had our time to eat it there. Complained to the manager who seemed unbothered by the situation this is despite there being several empty table. Avoid in my opinion.

The food is absolutely delicious and portions are generous. Service was also 10/10. It was very busy when we went on a Saturday night. The car park was full so had to park on the street further up the road. Because it's very busy it's obviously very noisy as well, which is the downside of a good quality, popular restaurant. But the food and service was top notch. Prices reasonable too. Highly recommended.

The venue is lovely and clean. It wasn't too busy, but clearly they can accommodate large parties. The food was good, especially the Naan bread and the Sarsoon ki saag, which I wouldn't normally order, was delicious. There was only one staff member serving tables, so the service was a bit rushed when it got busy. There are screens showing football and other sports throughout the day. Also, there is parking to the rear of the property.

The experience was extremely poor today, we have come all the way from Solihull in UBER and back paid £35 in taxi and has no beer except cobra which was warm and mixed grill came first before popadums, asked for the napkins and forgotten, no dips were given with the mixed and I had to ask for it. I've been to some of the best desi pubs in the West Midlands (including Soho Tavern, Merry Maid and Hen and Chickens) but the Covered Wagon is my favourite. I've kept coming back for five years. The standout dish, the sizzling mixed grill, has to be seen and heard to be believed. The balance of succulence, seasoning and charring is sublime. I also think the vegetarian sizzler is the best veggie mixed grill I've had. But don't overlook the curries, which outclass most Birmingham balti houses, and sides. The curry-loaded fries are a meal in themselves. And of course, it's a pub as well, serving reasonably priced and well poured pints (Guinness £4.75). On this occasion, we received excellent service from Taz.

We went on a Weds afternoon, I'd heard very good things about CW. We ordered the veg sizzler, lamb curry & a few other bits. The sizzler was smaller in portion size to what I was expecting compared to another grill place in Brum. It came on caramelised onions but some of them were so burnt that that was all you could taste, this then transferred to the bits on the sizzler, the burnt taste. I ate the grill pretty much to myself whereas other grills have plenty for two & leftovers. The wife's lamb curry was better than the other place we go. So maybe the meat curries are better here & the veg sizzler is better at the other place. Lots of people rate this place but if I was choosing I'd go to the other place as veggie for the grill whereas my wife would choose this one for the meat! Others who love it are also meat eaters

Tried the covered wagon last night after alot of people recommended it. We had popadoms to start with and ordered our mains they bought our food out while we still had popadoms on the table, the table was small we didn't have enough room to put everything. I had a lamb dhansak which was ment to be a medium spice which was actually really spicy, I eat medium spice all the time, I couldn't finish my curry. The naan bread and masala chips were lovely and my daughter enjoyed her tikka massala. The restaurant is so noisy you can't hear conversation on your own table. Food was a good price though I might give it another go and try something mild or the mixed grills as they looked nice.

The venue is pleasant and well-maintained, with good service. The naans and curries were excellent, but the vegetarian sizzler/mixed grill was disappointing and certainly not worth the £16.45 price tag. It was mostly fried onions, lacking in flavor and substance. The dish consisted of soya chunks in tandoori paste (soya chunks are cheap in all cash & carry’s ), one kebab, a few pieces of paneer, and two fried frozen samosas. Overall, it was underwhelming and left me dissatisfied. Maybe double the portion to justify the price.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at one of the best pub/ restaurants in the West Midlands, and it was an experience worth sharing. The highlight of my meal was the authentic Indian food, which truly stood out with its real flavours and taste. The platter, in particular, was a delightful choice, offering a variety of dishes that each impressed with their depth and authenticity. Every bite was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to quality and tradition. Additionally, I ordered the veg Manchurian, and I was pleasantly surprised by how closely it matched the original Indian taste. It was a nostalgic and satisfying dish that perfectly complemented the rest of the meal. Beyond the excellent food, the atmosphere and service were equally brilliant. The staff were attentive and courteous, ensuring that every aspect of the dining experience was enjoyable. Overall, I am thrilled to have discovered this gem in the West Midlands. Before I had to remind the waitress that we still hadn't been served. And she definitely had forgotten us based on her reaction and her apologising. But she was kinda friendly and efficient after that, so we tipped her. 2. The food was very good but 3 out of 5 times it's been great. The prawn jalfrezi was the oddest version of this dish I’ve ever had the misfortune of ordering. I don’t understand why a dry dish was served with so much sauce? It was quite bizarre. When I spoke with the waitress she said “I think this is how it usually comes” I struggled to find a picture online to verify, so here’s one. The other dishes were fine, not anything special at all for the price point. Overall a disappointing meal.

Very disappointing, was ok to start with and then we ordered our food and my fish curry had a hair in it which was disgusting and I didn’t want to eat the rest of my food because of it, so therefore tried my boyfriends madras which tasted exactly the same as the fish curry which makes no sense because the madras is meant to be tasty and spicy. Service was appalling - was trying to celebrate a lovely evening celebrating my friends birthday but they rushed us out by putting the bill down infront of us and telling us they had another booking at 8pm. Excellent desi pub. Large portions, really tasty, soya/paneer/vegetable options means loads of choice for vegetarians

Enjoyed a Sunday lunch with a difference. I remember when this place was a pub but first visit since it became a Indian food restaurant. Very child friendly and saw lots of families of different generations so something for everyone. We tried the large vegetarian sizzler along with Mogo chips, Aloo Gobi and garlic & plain naan. All very tasty and perfectly spiced. Service was friendly and prompt. There is a carpark but nearby on street parking too and noticed bike racks at the front. Based on experience, booking is recommended.

Absolutely awful. The food had been there for ages and some of it was hard and unable to chew properly. The service was poor. Will not be going there again

Thursday 31st October 2024, My husband and I came here for an impromptu lunch. We had not been here for some time. The Bistro had, had a complete make over and was very bright and fresh in décor and pleasing to the eye. The menu was as extensive as ever and had lots of interesting dishes to choose from. We studied the menu and made our choices and then went to the counter to order and pay for our food. The food when it arrived was served piping hot and was very well presented. My husband had the smaller full English breakfast which included a pot of tea in with the price, which he said was very nice and very filling. I had the three egg omelette with ham, mushrooms and cheese which was served with a dressed salad and golden chunky chips. It was really delicious and very filling. I washed all this lovely food down with a nice latte coffee. It was nice to spend a very pleasant hour and a half here. We will be returning in the not to distant future.
