We come here regularly on evenings or weekends and the food / service is always spot on. Taz was great tonight. Top lad and great vibes.

Good food ,fast service all in a relaxing atmosphere, reasonable price and free parking

Food was incredible, can’t recommend the mixed grill enough. Seen to our table as soon as we walked in, and our food didn’t take long at all, especially considering how busy it was. Definitely worth a visit and reasonably priced as well.

Everything was amazing. From the staff to the food! We will definitely come again next time we visit.

Went here on recommendation and we wasnt disappointed, the service was super fast (a Sunday evening) the covered wagon grill was the best desi grill we have tried. The staff pleasant and the curry was delicious and prices reasonable. Highly recommend and we will return! Drove all the way from Sutton Coldfeild to try it.

Great Atmosphere & Service, Average Food The Covered Wagon has a great atmosphere — it’s one of the few places in Birmingham where you can grab a decent drink, enjoy a good feed, and catch the sport all in one spot. The staff are excellent: quick, friendly, and really accommodating. That said, the food is pretty average overall. The curries are nothing to write home about, but the sizzling mixed grill is clearly the main event and by far the most popular dish. I’d give the food a solid 6 out of 10, but nothing that really stands out — hence the three stars. Still worth a visit for the vibe and the service alone.

After all these amazing reviews I went with the family to try for myself. I have always been disappointed with Desi pubs. but we live in hope! It’s all very organised and fast helpful service when you walk in. Drink order taken immediately which is nice though she should waited for us to look at the drinks menu before asking us what we would like. As for the food it was great and generous especially starters you have to force yourself not to eat too much. Vegetable Manchurian was especially good. Prices are fine especially considering quality and quantity. Popadoms are a rip off though this is everywhere now. At least they were good quality nice and thick probably the best I’ve ever had. Feels odd to swoon over the quality of popadoms!! Anyway it’s a really good place. Glad I went there I would go again. Would recommend!

Beautiful food (be careful, even "mild" has a kick!) it was very busy, but didn't impact service time. Our waiter, Abhi was great, very attentive, nice guy. Love the pub-but-resturant vibe. The garlic cheese naan is insane amazing.

This place is a hidden gem but worth seeking out. Popped in for an afternoon meal and the place was busy but very relaxed and the staff very helpful and accommodating. Also very reasonably priced. Outdoor seating at the front and parking at the rear. I'd come here again.

A lovely desi pub. Somewhere to go for good honest food and to watch the football. Service is quick and food is really nice. It's you're typical desi pub. We like going for a quick mid week family meal.

Covered wagon exceeded my expectations. As soon as I arrived a humble yet highly professional waiter ‘Deepak’ really looked after my daughter and myself. I asked for a table next to a socket so I could charge my phone. He ensured I got a table next to a socket. I requested my food to be well done and a little spicy and that’s exactly how I got it. Our cocktails 🍸 were amazing too. We had the Cuban lunch. Thank you Deepak and thank you Covered Wagon. We truly enjoyed our meal and the drinks. Best Wishes, Maya

Food never disappoints. The welcome is always great. No complaints from me. Only issue I have is that I don’t get to go enough.

So we rang up late afternoon Saturday to see if there was a table for two and to our surprise there was so we booked it and arrived for 6pm. So we were seated under the TV which wasn’t really the best as they had the football on with sound too. Ordered popadoms no spoon with sauces and couldn’t catch the waitress eye to get one. Food came which was fine. We went to the bar twice and ordered the same round. Both rounds were two different prices…. Strange. Had to remind her to rectify bill for this. We have used this pub now for years and have always enjoyed it and even struggled to get in at times. This visit was not the same there was no atmosphere as there usually it and it wasn’t very busy either for a Saturday. Not the same vibe which was a shame

We had a celebration meal for our son in law,the food was excellent and the service was first class.We will definitely be back soon.

Great Indian grill place, staff are lovely and helpful. Food comes out very quickly after ordering in our experience and it is all absolutely delicious, especially the chilli chicken!

Food was incredible, the chef & the team really should be so proud. So close to the taste of cooking at home (not oily in the slightest), really tasty food & the waiting staff were very good too. Clean toilets, great fresh tasting masala tea too. We'd definitely come back.

It's a safe place for the family to enjoy a beer and the excellent food. NOT TO BE MISSED.

Every time I go here it never disappoints. Went for my partners birthday today and was served by Bruce, great waiter, calm and attentive.

One small criticism if I may.....could do with a little update on the decor, apart from that the food is great along with the service and very reasonable price.

I had the special mixed balti and honestly it was up there with the the best i have had, My only reason for the 3 on atmosphere, is because we went in the afternoon on a week day and it was pretty much just us in there and a couple of other tables.

Great food. Only downside (Manager make a note) was once our food arrived the staff disappeared. I went to the bar twice to ask if we could order more drinks but still no one showed up. Two rounds missed (#lost profit). Food was very good and came out quickly. I’d recommend this place, but do a double order of drinks or you may go without 😏

Have been going to the covered wagon for years, me and all my family and friends. And it's always been a favourite because the food has been consistently good. However, the past 3 times I've been the food (chicken saag and biriyani have been awful. The chicken saag had a consistently of baby food, and both dishes made the cardinal sin: too much salt! All I could taste in both dishes was salt. No rich and textured flavours as before, just salt. I'm not sure if there's been a change of chef, but my family and friends have also said the same. It'll be time for a change if food doesn't return to previously high standards. Also, male staff have been quite blasé and indifferent on recent trips. I'm not sure if the covered wagon's popularity has made it complacent, but keep serving below standard food and employ staff that are stand-offish, and people will stop coming.

Amazing mix grills and delicious curries. Up there with one of the best Indian restaurants in Birmingham, high praise! Well worth a visit. We're regulars and will be back again soon. Staff are lovely and can't do enough for you.

Always good food and atmosphere

Have eaten in the restaurant before and must say it's very good, my advice is don't order delivery, possibly the worst Indian I have ever had, butter chicken curry (chicken wasn't cooked), sizzler mixed grill (chicken chunks wernt cooked) forgot the naan bread, only 2 poppadoms should of been 4, out of the whole meal we ate the chips and lamb in the mixed grill, won't order for delivery again may return for in house eating

29/12/2024 As a regular customer its a shame to see the service of this place go way way down. Couple of the staff have no thank yous, very moody and the guy who took my order on the phone was easily irritated and quick tempered. Please sort it out.

An average Indian Punjabi restaurant, with some nice starters and curries. Nothing too fancy or exquisite. The disappointing dish was the veg biryani which had ungrounded whole spices destroying the palette. The chana masala was good but nothing out of the ordinary and usually available with the same flavours at other Indian restaurants too. If you do visit - the kebab platter will not disappoint.

I and a few friends were seated at very short notice when another booking fell through. This was appreciated. Customer service is very good. The decor is great. The food is superb. The only drawback was that there were some rowdy young male diners, with no noise filter! But what can you do.

Best Indian in Birmingham! amazing menu including soy vegetarian options. good beers too including Estrella Damm on draft. easy bus ride from town, or taxi for under £7. footy on TVs. highly recommended.

Pub and beer are lovely. I have been there a few times since my original 3-star review. It's now increased to 5 stars as service has increased massively and the food has been consistently great. Very good value and large portions.

Great Food As always. My regular place been coming for years. The only thing I don't like we always get a terrible table. Never get given a nice area. I always have to ask to sit elsewhere which is a pain. When we get another table we get told you have 1hr on the table. Shouldn't be like this how do others know you are going to give that table to them. Should be 1st come 1st serve along as you have booked. Others get given nice tables. This needs to be addressed by management. Not happy with this

Absolutely amazing food will be coming back

Visited on Sunday 17th Nov following many recommendations. We’d had a takeaway from there previously which was fine. Sadly our dine in experience was very average. Service was almost too quick in the sense that we felt rushed to order food. Once food was ordered, it was delivered in around 8 minutes. For a table of 6, we ordered a fair amount of food so was a bit concerning how quick it arrived. We came for the mixed grill really and when it came out you could immediately tell it was going to be dry. And sadly it was. Essentially the meat was just quickly heated up and put on a sizzler. Imagine that meat was sat there for a while. It didn’t taste particularly fresh. Chilli paneer and prawn dishes were also extremely sweet in taste. We also ordered a couple of mocktails as we were driving a long distance. When the bill came we were charged for cocktails which in fairness was then rectified (no apology though). But what was concerning was that when the bar staff were amending the bill with the waitress; you could see and hear them laughing about it and one jokingly saying “did you actually make mocktails”. Not a laughing matter in any situation, let alone when driving is involved. Also; hand soap in the men’s toilet was topped up with water instead of replacing it. Very poor hygiene and pure laziness. All in all, a below average experience. Poor food and service.

Always a consistently good experience with lovely food.

Waitress was understanding so got the 4 stars. Went for a early lunch and food was shocking. Clearly reheated. How can mixed grill not be done fresh. Chicken wings with no char on them, seesh kebabs hard and dry. Returned two pieces to get another 2 that clearly werent cooked freshly again. Heated in a plastic container. Chilli chips had no crunch at around £5 for a portion of card board chips. Kebab roll with same day hard kebabs in it. Was kinda a regular but wont be returning. Even the Waitress was uncomfortable when having to lie to say kebab were cooked fresh. She agreed they were hard and dry. Very disappointing.

Travelled 1hr from Leicester very average food, not much flavour, portions and prices were fine. After seeing a lot of good reviews was quite disappointed

Eat here with a friend on a recommendation, got to say, well worth a visit, the mixed grill was excellent, also had the butter chicken, which was also very good. I can imagine this place gets rammed in the evening and weekend. Would I eat here again,? Yes definitely, shame I don't live closer.

oct 31st had a great night there was 5 of us although they was busy we all got served together food was lovely and plenty of it the guy serving us was great we did,nt wait long for anything his name was Bruce he was very attentive and friendley hope we get him next time we go .Thanks for making our night Bruce.

Service was friendly, if a little too fast. Drinks and poppadoms coming quickly was good, but starters came almost immediately and mains as the starters were taken away. Car park is really small. Not only does that mean few spaces, it also means that you have to try and navigate pass cars trying to get in, whilst you’re trying to get out after not finding a spot. Food was tasty. Lamb chops were a little bit small.

Disappointed with my last 2 daytime visits here, The food was cold & below average really Disappointed not sure what has happened,I have previously recommended the covered wagon but have to go on my last 2 visit have the food has been rubbish so will not be returning & will try somewhere new

Excellent food, good value too. However when I scrutinised my bill I noted that I’d been charged for 3 items I never actually ordered. Each curiously enough costing £4.75, The waitress quickly amended the error. I wonder why this error occurred as the restaurant was overly busy.

Sorry we order chilli paneer. But it was coated in soya sauce. Very salty,, not all tasty, desi chicken curry was like English chicken curry, no spices,coriander, no colour. ,omg onion mulch. Nan. Who adds cheese terrible. Sorry. Food bit down the hill. Not at all impressed 😒

Always wanted to visit and saw all the trip advisor mixed reviews. So… firstly the service was fab…Taz our waiter was on the ball, drinks were ordered and served within 5 minutes. Food not far behind, but was fresh and sizzling. We ordered the Wagon sizzling grill, Bhuna sauce and naan bread. Amazing food and value for money. Definitely recommend

This place has gone downhill. The food is not authentic Indian food. Contains sugar. Food is always cold and has no flavour. Catered for non-asian customers. A shame as it used to be the best in the area. Not worth the food. The management is rude and need some re-training in people skills.

The portions were great the food tasted lovely. The reason for the 3 was the food appeared to be spicier than other restaurants we've visited.

This is our favourite place to have Indian food in the area. They have consistently great food with a special mention to their fresh naans. Would advice booking on weekends as it can be very busy

A great balance of indo British food & Indian taste. I think both will love it, Indians & brits. I keep revisiting, every time i am very satisfied with taste & service. Its just on weekends drunk goras could be very noisy, so if u want a peaceful place, then this is not the best place to be. But I think thats expected from a pub..

Absolutely brilliant food,great atmosphere,will go again,only a small issue is the waiter rushing you out of your seating area before the end time you was given,we still had 20 mins before we left and was leaving anyway.

Incredible food and a vast selection to choose from, especially if you're vegan. Not the usual standard starters and mains here, instead a wonderfully diverse array of Indian delicacies, chockful of flavour, tantalisingly tasty and with very generous portions. This is food of the highest order. The service is great too, fast and efficient but friendly. A good selection of drinks and tasteful decor. It gets VERY busy here, so would advise booking in advance on a weekend. Highly recommended 👌

First words from the waiter we need the table back at 8pm - I say can I order a drink please? Rushes service seems like they want you in, want your money and then get you out as quickly as possible. Ordered starters and were being forced to orders mains at the same time we had only been there for 10mins. At 19.30 while we were still eating we got asked if we want boxes for take away almost suggesting we had, had our time to eat it there. Complained to the manager who seemed unbothered by the situation this is despite there being several empty table. Avoid in my opinion.
