This place is AMAZING!!! Beautiful pie and just what we wanted. The atmosphere is very welcoming, and the staff are lovely. We were recommended to come here by a friend who said it was the best place for pie and they couldn't have been more correct. We loved it here, and we will definitely come again.

I was looking forward to enjoying a pie after seeing the menu, but unfortunately, just ended up getting my time wasted. We booked a table for 19:30 and arrived at a busy pub. I wasn’t sure where to check-in for the table, but I managed to grab a guy who I’m guessing was the supervisor (dressed in dark colours with an earpiece) who took us to our table and left us with menus. After 15 minutes of waiting with no indication of it was table service or not (there was no number on the table), we felt uncertain about what to do. During our wait, another table behind us was asked to move for a couple with a reservation, which could have been avoided with a simple “reserved” sign. Since no one approached us to take our order, I went to the bar, where I overheard another customer being told by the bar man “I’ll have to speak to the manager” he then came back and advised him there was a 45-minute wait for food. At this point I decided to leave, as I had no faith in the place. This experience felt chaotic and unorganised, leading us to lose confidence in the place. If the staff member who seated us had simply told us about the ordering process and any potential wait times, it would have made a significant difference. Im frustrated as it just ended up being a waste of our time, and I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

Popped in for a late lunch & a pint; so glad we did. The pies are fantastic and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Sat outside, people-watching, and thoroughly enjoyed our meals & drink. The barkeep (manager?) was very friendly and accommodating.

Lovely traditional pub. So yummy we went twice during our trip so all of our friends could try the pies. The pies are fun and this Minnesotan wanted real British food. The food is hearty and the rooms are decorated with historical artifacts which adds to the fun. Not a fussy place as you order from the bar. Kudos to your chef 🤩. And we plan to come back.

Mind you I don’t frequent England much and have a bit of a narrower palate. My past experiences were that ethnic British food is better than any ethnic food in the states but actual British cuisine was a different experience for me. This pub changed that for me. Meal was 12.50 and you got a pie, potatoes, peas, and a sauce. It was delicious to me. Not sure how much of it was the meal or my exhaustion from a day of travel or my super low expectations… either way I’m going again before I had out

We looked at various menus online for something to eat. My son decided he wanted pie and chips so we went here. He rarely eats pies so I thought it might not go well. He demolished his food and enjoyed it so much he had the same thing a second time! I was jealous but I was full. Beer is good too. We ended up back again a couple of days later for our last night in town. There's fancier food around but you can't go wrong if you know a good pie when you see it and don't need a song and dance with it.

Lovely little place with a good vibe, decent staff and the scran was excellent.. tastiest, meatiest pie I've ever had! Very dog friendly too! We chose to sit outside because my boyfriend smokes and the dog can be a kn0b when he knows there's food coming, but the bloke who served me made sure i knew we were welcome inside with him and even brought him some gravy bones out with our food. I liked his banter too. I'd deffo go back!

What a disappointment ! Sat out in the warm Newcastle sunshine near the Tyne Bridge and looked forward to a steak pie , mash and liquor. What came was a warm dried out small pie on a bed of yellow dried out mash gloop and tasteless parsley sauce. Hideous. Nothing like the photo. Won't be back

We stopped here as we wanted somewhere to eat that accepted dogs and weren’t looking for anything fancy. The waiter didn’t seem to know what bitters were on tap and then listed an IPA to us as a bitter?! Food was good though not over generous portions and they accommodated a special request to have the “liquor” (gravy) on the side.

The place was pretty much empty. Food ordered and was great. Plates cleared so I went to the bar to order 5 deserts to be told - “ kitchen is shut and chef has gone. We stop serving at 9-00.” No one had the decency to say that this was the case. Such a shame as have recommended this place to so many. Great value in a rustic building with tilting floors that gives it a below deck on ship kind of feel. For basically a tenner you can have a virtuous pie, some striking mash and a lashing of gravy to blend it together. Together this will warm you from the inside out , washing away any worries or stresses that have built up over the day. Stroll along the quayside, whatever the weather and fall through the door into the warmth and eat your troubles away.

Came here on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant is very old and rustic, a great atmosphere with loads of low beams and small rooms. There was an open fire going which was just as well as it was quite cold, with it being an old building, so if you come wrap up!!!The food was excellent. The pies were a good size with plenty of filling and very tasty. The mash and peas were good also. My wife had peas pudding which was also surprisingly good and well worth trying. We are greedy so we had the upgrade to two pies so we could try more. I had the minted lamb and also sausage and chorizo. The lamb was excellent. The sausage wasn't quite as good, I wasn't keen on the texture, but that's just my opinion. My wife also had the sausage and also the spinach and goats cheese, which was really nice.If you love pies and want something different then I recommend here, if we're in Newcastle again then we'll be back.

We visited this place as group, just before Christmas. We wanted somewhere simple and affordable. This place did meet our needs. It was nearly empty when we walked in. If you are looking for a posh, table service restaurant I am afraid this is not the place. The meals however are indeed hearty if you love pub grub. There was an odd alcohol fermentation smell as you walk in. You kind of get used to it once inside. The toilets are a bit of trek though from the sitting area.We were seated right at the back and I noted a couple with a dog so it looks like it is dog friendly as well. The place is quite old and rusty though but a good hideaway for a pub break. We ordered a variety of pies. Set just off the scenic quayside, the Redhouse is a modern twist on the classic pub. Confusing interiorly, and perhaps in need of a little TLC, the dining areas are cosy and intimate, with the bar areas more buzzing. The staff were friendly enough, though were quite busy at the bar. Food is order at the bar, and do expect long waits during busy times. The food is all pies, but there are delicious vegetarian and vegan options. The pies were delicious with interesting flavours, whilst keeping their traditional elements and satisfyingly crispy crust. The slight twist on your home classics was maintained in their selection of mash potatoes and peas - the garlic mashed potato was scrumptious. Relatively good value for money for the portion size, but by no means the cheapest around. Would recommend a visit if you’re nearby.

I went and ordered 1 Steak with Gravy Pie and Peas and a Lamb and Mint pie with red wine jus ( wish tasted very bland). We both wanted chips but where told they weren't available! So it was mash to accompany both! Service was prompt and the food was well presented! At that point my wife started to eat her meal and promptly spat some out into a tissue! I asked what was up and she explained the gravy was basically thick Bovril not gravy and it was so salty! She went to explain to the lady serving who was busy on her phone and didn't understand what the complaint was about! I then went to find another server who basically offered a refund and said normally we use "Bisto" I would want some proper gravy for paying £9 for Pie and mash, It was a first time visit and will not be back, owing to the lack of knowledge and attitude of the staff.

Newcastle pirate Edward Robinson, who sailed with Blackbeard, was born here and it's a fitting tribute that this old bar retains much of the old oak beams and brick floor. Monday is beer and a pie night, a good choice of both available served by friendly staff in the traditional surroundings. Excellent stuff, we had the steak pie and the minted lamb pie, peas, mash and the superb liquor (gravy to you and me). Particularly good value on a Monday with a pint and pie offer. Been here many times and never disappointed (but would love a bit of bread to mop up the liquor). When finished took drinks outside and sat in the sun, couldn't beat it.

Tried this place as the building looked interesting. The pies, mash, peas and gravy were excellent, very tasty and reasonably priced. Enjoyed a bottle of Malbec with it went down very well with the meal. Happy to recommend the Redhouse and will visit again.

We went on a Monday evening to this establishment, located close to the Quays and almost beneath the main road bridge - reminiscent of Brooklyn Bridge from this angle. It feels a bit like how I imagine Berlin places to be - a hotchpotch of walls covered with old doors cut at an angle, dark wood pieces from old buildings, and passages through warehouses. There is a good range of proper beer and the Monday fare is Pie and a Pint for £9.99. Choose your pie from eight choices, choose your mash from four (or chips for £1 extra, choose type of peas from three, and finally gravy from three. We agreed it was blooming lovely.

The Redhouse only serves pies. This was a very new experience for us. The way the menu is written made it unclear as to what my choices were referring to. No table service so hard to ask questions.

Sat outside for a lunchtime drink, almost directly underneath the Tyne Bridge. The pub is on a busy junction and there was a lot of traffic, so probably wouldn't be best place to have a spot of lunch.

Love the lagers and ales on offer here. The vibe was great with throwback and current rocky/pop music. Staff were cheery. Cheap prices and lovely historic building and beams. Hard to describe but has a great vibe here.

Went here with football mates. Decided on a couple of craft beer pints and let the bartender serve us a tasting platter of 3 different small glasses a couple of times. Redhouse is artfully decorated and specifically kept to look like a bar from British yesteryear which is wonderful to look at. Old wooden furniture coupled with dimly lit alcoves provide ample opportunity to spend a very relaxing afternoon/day in here. Would definitly return!

A great pub with an excellent selection of drinks. And the pie/mash/peas/gravy menu is brilliant! A lovely pie and a great pint, all in a historic old building, with wooden beams, wonky walls etc. What's not to like?

Really enjoyable pie as always. I always get two pies to myself as one probably isn’t enough. Good choice of flavours and peas to go with it in a nice cosy setting. If you like pies, it’s well worth checking out.

I'm from London & love traditional London pie & mash & liquor. So I was super excited when a trip up North had a & I quote TRADITION LONDON pie & mash & liquor shop. Pls don't get me wrong it was one of the best pie & mash tastings plates I've had but I don't think it should say TRADITIONAL when it's clearly not. But if you like pie then go here cause it's bloody gorgeous

Absolutely love the idea of the place picking your pie, mash, peas and gravy. We all ordered something different the steak pie was the best in my opinion. The lamb pie was a little lacking in flavour which we didn’t expect. Unfortunately my mash was really cold which did spoil it a little. My partners was luke warm too. Really enjoyed the pease pudding though. Loved it came on the tin plates. Really liked the place and the music playing was fantastic.

This pub is full of character and history. I was here for a function and wasn't keen because the menu is basically pies but it was wonderful. I had one of the best steak pies ever! Wonderful old building that goes back a lot further than Dickensian times. In fact I believe its Elizabethan. However, with the oldy world appearance inside I couldn't help thinking that at some stage that Bill Sikes and Fagan would walk in.

We were looking for something different and what a great find. The menu's fun and takes you through four stages of selection and delivers a retro family favourite, pie & mash. Between us we had three pies and all were full of meat and flavour. The mash and peas were tasty additions. I'm glad it was at the bottom of town so that we got a good walk in afterwards to burn it off, very filling.

You can't beat good old fashioned traditional food and The Redhouse is a proper old fashioned pie, mash and ale house located in a building even older than origins of pie and mash itself (Probably!). The restaurant is the food equivalent of the build a bear shop as you select from a range of different pies, mash and gravies to form a composite meal.

The Red house has always packed a punch when it comes to quirky, old, character and the building has always oozed bags of charm, however it needs to supply some higher standard of wine and not be so anal about their reservation policy. We were told we couldn't sit at a table at 5 45 when the reserved sign clearly said 6 30.

The exterior of the building is very quaint and cute. The Redhouse is indeed red (or pink at the least) and quite an old building. Inside the original features have remained so it is like a warren, be fore warned this means it's quite dark due to low ceilings, small nooks, and low lighting levels.

Told we could not order food if we hadn’t booked, even though there was only one couple seated. the chef was sat at the bar having a pint, not a good look to be fair, but 20 minutes later someone wondered to the bar and ordered food. We then witnessed another couple try to order at the bar for them to be told they’d ran out of food so the kitchen was closed. Nice one!
