Called in for quick drink & scones. Like sitting in the window seats watching the world pass by. Scones today - cheese was quite dry and fruit was tasteless. Drinks service was ok, but it’s not difficult to make two pots of tea.

This is the first time I've had lunch here. Nice enough place but the service was slow and not what I consider good value for money. Unlikely I'll come again.

We always go here whenever we're shopping in Newcastle. Delicious food, very reasonably priced and very friendly and accommodating staff. Today we had the mince and dumplings, children's fish and chips and the chicken club sandwich. The meals were all substantial and tasty and the staff were very friendly and patient despite the lunchtime rush.

A haven of peace away from the madding crowds. Polite and efficient service and tge fish and chips were lovely. Definitely worth dropping in if on a shopping trip and feeling peckish!

Used to love coming here, hadn't been for a while so thought we would try it yesterday, wish we hadn't bothered. Ordered decaff lattes and toasted teacakes, the drinks definitely weren't lattes and after waiting 20 mins my husband went to ask where they were to be told they had already went out - obviously to some other couple although our table number was blatantly plain to see on our table. Will never go back again, totally disappointed

A regular morning visitor to this restaurant I decided to pop in for lunch before a hospital appointment expecting the same standard. There was quite a queue slowly moving along and after about 10 minutes I was halfway along. It was then that it was announced that meals would take 30 mins from ordering to arriving. Several people then left the queue to go elsewhere, but I decided to wait. True, it did take 30 minutes, but by this time I didn't enjoy it as I had to rush to get to my appointment on time. The staff are lovely, but what on earth happened in the kitchen? It was 12.15 on a weekday lunchtime. Fenwicks has been established long enough to know that food should be prepared and ready to serve. It is not a cook to order restaurant. So sorry to have had this experience.

Went with my daughter today and we ordered two chicken, bacon, egg and avocado club sandwiches, a portion of chips, a glass of water and a bottle of sprite. We were given two small sachets of salt and three of pepper! I paid by card and was not offered a receipt. We then found a table and waited, and waited, and waited for approximately fifty minutes. When the food arrived it was minus the chips. I pointed this out to the waiter and said chips were not ordered, but he would check. He came back and said they were ordered and he would see to it. We started to eat our sandwiches and had finished with still no chips. I saw the waiter again and this time he said they were not on the order and I had not been charged for them. As I was not offered a receipt I could not prove or disprove this. Very disappointing and poor customer service.

Ordered the Carrot and coriander soup. It had no taste whatsoever like having a bowl of hot water. Took it back got my money back.

Top notch Sunday Roast every week. Don’t understand the reviews on here. We go every Sunday and the staff are great. The Sunday roast is consistently good and great value

Very disappointed with mince and dumplings. Herbs in the dumplings - no. Request for extra gravy - denied. I loved the mince and dumplings but you've messed about with this plain English dish to its detriment. Poor show. Go back to the original please.

Called into the Terrace restaurant for breakfast. Our food was well presented and tasty enough; smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and avocado with poached egg and bacon on sour dough. A couple of thing went against our review. The decor is abysmal and my americano as topped up with hot water from an urn (bit weird). All Okay.

For goodness sake, Fenwicks, stop using cheap teabags for our pots of tea and buy the ones that are made locally, that you used to use. Tea is just not the same. Called in as we often do for a cuppa, cake , scone and toasted teacake. Very disappointed. Prices have increased & quality decreased. Dreadful weak cup of tea. No amount of waiting & stirring the pot made any difference to strength of flavour, as it was weak & watery. Also, please use see through covers for tea cakes and scones as a big fly was having an adventure crawling all over them the other day. Staff behind counter used to be polite & friendly too. What has happened? !!!

Don’t bother. Prices through the roof, portion sizes shrinking, they now ask how many sugar sachets you want and ration the amount of ketchup they provide. I found that embarrassing. I asked why they’re doing this instead of allowing customers to help themselves to condiments at the table (like they used to) and I was told that it was to cut down on waste and customers stealing! Charming. So with that policy, every customer is treated as a suspect? Even Wetherspoons (who are a fraction of these prices) don’t do this. It gave the impression of a cheap skate joint . I won’t be going back.

My wife and I visit this restaurant almost every weekend and have noticed a big decrease in portion size, even for the small breakfast. Today was actually the worst so far...practically needed microscopes to see the scrambled eggs. Good staff but terrible value for money. Not sure we will be back.

My husband and I went to the Terrace today ,we were very disappointed with the choice on the menu, but never mind my husband had the chicken curry which sounded appetising and I settled on the burger and chips ,the curry consisted of a small chicken breast with a jug of curry sauce which tasted of nothing no seasoning or flavour.my burger was a big lump of mince meat in between a large bun and a cup of chips no flavour,o I forgot a slice of gurkin! £27,50. This restaurant is rubbish definitely gone down the pan since we were last there.Never again.!!,,

Deplorable lack of information and choices for those who are gluten free. The menu did not indicate which choices were gf, probably because there wasn’t a choice!!! Eventually I was offered toast with avocado and a poached egg, It arrived - one small slice of toast with a small amount of mashed avocado on, a few seeds and one small egg poached - on a cold plate. £12.50. with one cup of tea!!! Typically a Brownie the only gf cake on offer. Friends fish and chips arrived after a long wait and drinks and my meal long time finished. Outrageously overpriced. This indifference is typical of a number of venues in Newcastle. Ample proof of the north south divide. ‘Take us or leave us’. Catering courses are available at Gateshead and Newcastle Colleges. Update yourselves Fenwick’s.

This place is such a nice venue. However, the food is undesirable and the service lacking. We ordered 2 x ham and pease pudding sandwiches. One we asked to be gluten free bread. The butter was not spread on the bread it was thick blobs on the bread on both options. The gluten free bread was inedible and the sandwich maker decided not to put pease pudding on the gluten fee option. The ham was scrappy and full of fat. On returning the GF sandwich we were told the pease pudding was left off because it was kept in a gluten area. Should that not have been our choice to have it or not. No managers checking if customers were happy and even when we sent food back there was no response. Service is slow and the system for ordering is slow and disorganised. This place needs a shakeup if it is to survive. We won't go again.

I love Fenwicks as a place to shop but £7.50 for dry gluten free bread with no butter and a tasteless cheese slice with lettuce is very poor value for money in my book, could do so much better Fenwicks PLEASE!

Quite disappointed after my visit today , chose the mince and dumplings, Iam not a big fan of large portions and this was nowhere near one . It was like a child’s portion the mash potato was probably the size of a table spoon with half a slice of carrot presented on the top . The mince and dumplings however was an ok portion for myself but I think anyone that was hungry wouldn’t be satisfied. Probably wouldn’t go for lunch again , maybe coffee and cake next time.

Went to have Sunday roast dinner with friends. We ordered large size but only got measly serving of one slice of beef , 2 roast potatoes and spoonful of peas. Such a rip off for £13. Took 45 minutes to get served aswell. Had staff ask for our order but she was just querying what we were ordering and not actually taking our orders. Didn't see the point of her asking in the first place. Definitely badly organised and would not visit again.

As a huge Fenwick fan, I was keen to see what the new rooftop restaurant was like, so called in for breakfast today. Although the coffee and croissant were delicious, the menu was very limited. … basically, croissant or muffin to eat, fresh orange or choice of hot drink. I do not think it unreasonable to offer some fresh fruit salad, granola and honey for example. Great decor, and good vibe, but there’s stiff competition out there now, with many great eateries in the area. Unsure about a future lunchtime visit given the poor reviews.Fenwick really need to up their game on this one in my opinion.

Nice venue, really looking forward to a girls tea out. Menu a bit limited so some did a stater with sides, others opted formains. We all agreed everything tasted of nothing, totally overpriced and very pretentious. We left lots and none of the servers asked why or if we enjoyed our meal, won't be nacl

my daughter and I went to the Terrace for breakfast this week. Our disappointing service began when the lady at the entrance of the cafe asked us in an unfriendly manner if we were eating or drinking here...well obviously as we were entering the cafe. She stood looking at us then snapped `Well whats your name then?. When we eventually got into the cafe we ordered bacon sandwiches and 2 pots of tea. The bacon sandwiches had 2 small undercooked pieces of bacon inside a cheap stottie. No offer of butter, sauce, sugar etc. With the prices they charge they need to be upping their game. We were served by 4 members of staff. I think there are too many staff doing too many different jobs. Cant understand why the food cant be out in the service area as it used to be for customers to see what they are getting. There would be less movement for the staff coming in and out of the kitchen.

Lunchtime visit, the sandwiches were very average for the price, I would have expected much better in here. Facilities for heating baby food were poor and staff to be honest seemed disinterested. Not the best of atmosphere in this restaurant.

I used to love this restaurant but the last two times I have been in there was an awful disinfectant type of smell - to be honest it was like sitting in a public toilet ! The first time I thought I was sitting too close to the kitchen so when I went back I sat as far from there as I could and it was just as bad !!! It really put me off my food - such a shame as I don’t think I will go back !

Went for lunch today, have gone several years for the Christmas lunch which has been enjoyable but was very disappointed today. Had mince and dumplings. The skins of the roast potatoes where hard, the mince was very runny and needed a spoon to eat. Wish I had took pic. There was 1 small dumpling in this sea of mince which seemed to overtake the plate with a couple of spoons of veg at the side. Definitely get more value for money in the cafes in the nearby Grainger Market which unfortunately isnt open on a Sunday. Very very disappointed

Told we could not order food if we hadn’t booked, even though there was only one couple seated. the chef was sat at the bar having a pint, not a good look to be fair, but 20 minutes later someone wondered to the bar and ordered food. We then witnessed another couple try to order at the bar for them to be told they’d ran out of food so the kitchen was closed. Nice one!
