Lovely little country pub, 2nd time visiting, first time the roast was amazing, visited over the weekend was just ok, some of the food was cold and was just covered in a warm gravy. Was a little disappointed. Staff and locals are friendly

Spectacular food for the family of seven. All the things we like! Beautifully tender beef and dumpling stew, steak and ale pudding, fish and chips, hunters chicken, ham and egg, sausage and mash. We all had something different (except 2 hunters chicken) and it was all very very good. Very happy. Definitely be back. Great service too. Highly recommended

Kelly is the star of this village pub. A great chef and all round lovely lady. Can't beat the food here.

Friendly, excellent food and 1st class service. All the staff were incredible , the young lady who was serving us was welcome, bubbly and friendly she made us feel like we were home and we just popped out to our local pub ! We were staying nearby and doing this place online, we are SO happy we found this little gem and if we lived closer we would most definitely be visiting frequently what a pleasant place and experience we had! You can really tell the food was homemade and not just heated up, perfect portion size and nothing was too much for the staff. Can’t express enough how pleasant our expense was. Please pass on our comments to your waitress she was absolutely incredible and really made our whole experience of the pub that much better was also lovely to meet the chef who was also excellent and seemed pleased to hear we enjoyed the food (and the plates were wiped clean) ;) Thank you again!

Fabulous food and a very friendly welcome. Delicious home cooked food, freshly prepared and we received great service. It felt like a lovely family run pub and we couldn’t have asked for more. Would definitely book again if we were in the area.

Came here for a birthday meal for the granddaughter and couldn’t fault anything, the food came to us hot and was so tasty, the service of staff was friendly, the pub was clean and tables were gleaming before we sat down thanks to kelly the chef for making this evening and a enjoyable one, a very nice friendly pub will be visiting again very soon.

We (family of 5 including 15 yr old, parents and grandparents) booked a last minute table . From the phone call to book in we found the staff very welcoming and friendly. When we got to the pub we were welcomed warmly and invited to a table that was made ready for our arrival. Cannot fault the service of any of the team. The food including the home made chips was to die for! We had combinations of chicken burgers, Red dog burgers, and ham egg and chips. I Wasn’t going to order dessert but father in law did so we all did and wow the honey comb cheesecake was beautiful! As was the cherry crumble! (We were lucky to get the last one!!) We will definitely be back again to this little treasure of a pub/restaurant! Thank you so much!

Unfortunately though the reason I have only given 1 star is because of after we'd left. There were 9 of us and split the bill equally. 1 paying for themselves and the rest paying 2 people each. We had asked about putting tips through by card but staff don't get them so we opted to do that separately by cash. I told the lady how much for mine (bearing in mind we'd discussed with her paying by twos and how much each) and the machine was given to me to tap my card. I wasn't shown the screen. Luckily I asked for a receipt and kept the overall bill. Checking my account later I realised I had been overcharged by £6. I went on the website and emailed but the next day my aunt thought best to call. I was given an email address for, I thought the manager, to send the evidence. A few days later I'd heard nothing so called, I'd been given the wrong email. Promised contact a few days later by the Friday, chased twice to finally get a response a few days after that, that the lady's boss said no way to prove overpayment as the card machine doesn't shown that far back. To say I'm disgusted is an understatement. They knew the day after so could have checked in advance if that was the case (only 2 large groups there and one under the name) they knew total bill and that we'd paid so surely they would have known too much had been paid. Also cashing up they'd have known when tallying up for the day. I can't believe in the modern world there is no way to show details of payments for a bill. Marred what was a lovely evening. So please beware, if you eat there and pay by card be vigilant of being overcharged.

Had the roast, not presented very well. Tasteless and smallest portion of roast potatoes I've ever seen. And when I asked for more pots, she said I'll have to put them through the till, which is fine but considering my potatoes totaled about half a small potato then it's not a fair portion. And the lack of gravy was rediculouse. All in all good service but not very tasty food. Dissapointed

Food was fantastic, lots of flavour. The lady who served us was so lovely and friendly. Great welcome by her, definitely worth a visit, we are looking at going again at the end of the week.

Very friendly helpful staff and food good but unfortunately I have been so cold the last few times I've visited that I've been unable to enjoy my meal. Wrap up warm if you intend to stay longer than half an hour.

Oh my goodness what a find!! Excellent food and very friendly staff. 4 of us shared the Chilli beef Nachos and we all agreed it was the BEST we had EVER had. 3 of us had the steak and kidney suet pudding and 1 had the beef stew pie with cheesy mash potatoes. Absolutely stuffed and we were devastated that we couldn't have a dessert as we were too full. Thank you!!

A very lovely looking country pub, seemed very popular. Daughter loved her bolognese, however my husband's steak wasn't terribly nice and neither was my beef bourgignon, they were a bit tough and didn't seem to have much flavour. T'is a shame as it seemed veery nice in there, perhaps we went on a bad day, or chose the wrong meals. Staff were polite and helpful.

Had a great time introducing my family to the local pub and enjoying lunch together. We had massive portions of fish and chips that were really tasty!

Nice country pub can't rate the food as did not eat in the pub

In far 2019 I did initially thought that this pub/restaurant was genuinely a good find. As the time has passed the quality of service (and food frankly) was rapidly deteriorating. 2 months ago when me and my friend as always visited the pub they managed to charge us for the 3 large wine bottles instead of 3 small (glass-sized bottles as they don’t do glasses) + the food. As everyone can imagine the bill was humongous. I still do not understand how this could have happened, but fine, as somebody said today people do make mistakes. When pointed the waitress corrected the bill and apologised. Today we have visited the pub again to have some food and a glass of wine with it after a lovely beach walk in Grain. Initially the waitress seemed very pleasant and polite, however a little intimidating, to be clear I do not have issues with that. After few minutes of decision making my friend ordered scampi & chips, I on the other hand decided to go with mussels & chips. Only then I am being told that they have got no mussels in stock today and she apparently forgot to pre-warn us about that. Fine, not nice, but I asked the waitress if anything else is missing from the list and only then she said yes, some leek pie (or something similar) was missing too. I asked her if I can get the bits from the Bar menu, she said yes. Again, she was a little intimidating and wanted to place on order NOW, I asked for some more time again to make a second choice. She asked if that’s fine to place an order for my friend which wasn’t ideal, but we said yes to that. I have made my second decision to go for some tempura prawns and salt & pepper calamari starters as my main. I did double check if they both are in stock, she confirmed, the order been placed. 10 minutes later I am being approached by a different waiter saying that salt & pepper calamari are unavailable too!! In the meantime my friend is getting her food and feels bad that she has to eat without me. They asked me if I want scampi instead of my calamari, I said no, cancel the tempura prawns then too and started to look through the menu again (attempt number 3, nice eh?!). As an attempt number 3 I decided to go for the rump steak which was finally genuinely available and I got it at the end! (Yaaay!!). I would like to highlight that all this problems that in my opinion could be easily eliminated do not help to relax in enjoy, on the other hand they make feel rather annoyed and very stressed. When finished food we have decided to ask for the bill (twice in fact). The younger waitress decided to simply ignore us. Again, fine, we have no issues re-choosing the meal 3 times in a row and asking for the bill 2 times in a row that’s what all guest must do and appreciate (as clearly, they are being fed for free or at least at the half price? – P.S. I am being sarcastic). Well, when we finally got the bill it turned out that we also got charged for the 2 starters I never had (1 of them was unavailable in fact). Do they even look at what they do there? I asked the younger waitress to correct the error and remove the starters we never had (£16.50 extra in fact). Which she did, however when we received the new bill, after all that never-ending hassle we had that evening she decided not to even say one bloody sorry!!! That’s where the patience has ran out! I asked her to apologies which she did after I have repeated it to her about 4 times, but if anyone means what means sorry not sorry, well that was that! Then I told her how would she feel if she went out, spend £44 (or £60 as what they wanted) and came out of the restaurant totally disappointed? I said that’s not normal and they should improve! And by saying at least bloody sorry she could change a lot (she did know how many times I was shafted that night). We paid, I went to the toilet and came back to another attack, the chef decided to get involved and have a go at me. I don’t know what she tried to deliver to me, something like people are allowed to make mistakes and she wishes my future child to me told off by somebody like me for making a mistake. I did try to explain that I did tell her off for not even apologising and not for making a mistake! Then they mentioned something about the experience at the restaurant which I honestly told them was terrible and even know putting my hand on heart I can honestly say it was THE WORST ONE in my life so far (taking in accordance that I visit 2-3 restaurants a week). Then they decided to tell me that the girl is doing A levels and planning to be a doctor (not sure what relevance it has, I just want to be treated like a human and get adequate food and service for my money). If that’s so important to them I have learnt English to a high level, graduated with the Masters degree from a local university in engineering, then I have completed a very tough teaching training course called PGCE in secondary maths. Yes, I can afford restaurants every day if I wanted to because yes I did get a very descent job after all my achievements, and yes I do have something to compare with. But what relevance does it have here? When, again, I just want a descent food and service for my money and YES, YES, I do expect an apology if the venue has fluffed up. In a bigger picture I do not care what’s happening behind the scene, I just want to have a nice relaxing evening for my money that’s the bottom line! There were a lot more thing what the chef told me which was offensive (stuff like we don’t have to come here again and they don’t really need our contributions) and many things which were rather irrelevant (in the meantime the younger waitress was standing behind her back creepily smiling which was even more upsetting to me). We decided to leave, went to the garden where my friend decide to smoke her e-cigarette and she did for a couple of minutes until the lady number 4 (who was not mentioned here yet) approached us and politely said to get out. My friend left shaking, saying that what everyone around will think about us? That we got kicked out for not paying? She found the entire situation so unfair and unbelievable. In addition, I would like to comment the food as I am already spending an hour of my life writing this (thanks very much for making me do that people, I really have nothing else to do on my holiday). Well before it all happened me and my friend both agreed that chips were rather undercooked (they tasted more like boiled potatoes not chips). Scampi that she had were mushy this time. My chips were same bad even from a different batch. Steak was good. Previously I remember the chef was a very friendly caring gentleman who was making food to perfection and today we got this… I do apologise for such a long review but I genuinely hope it will help someone to make a decision. People, please think, you are paying money (not cheap frankly, almost Miller & Carter prices) and you get mistakes (100s of them), you get wrong bills and risk getting not very delicious food. To the restaurant staff – do not comment, whatever I said is 100% true and no I don’t need your apologies now.

Absolutely first class Sunday lunch for us all. Will definitely return and recommend to anybody. Huge dinner cooked to perfection. The crackling was to die for!!!

Great spot to stop for a beer or a bit of quiet time. A cheerful local pub, friendly and helpful people, in a very tranquil road, surrounded by green and a beautiful parish church, with a big front garden and classic food menu. I ordered one of the local dish with Kent mussels and what a taste! I definitely recommend it 👍🏻💛

First time visitor to The Red Dog, I visited with a friend and her grandchildren whom where made most welcome, my friend has moved to the area, wow what a treat great service all very clean and tidy and the food we ordered was well cooked and well presented, the team of staff ensured we enjoyed and wanted for nothing yet did not intrude on our conversation, very impressed and will be back I am sure for many a visit....

Sunday roast beef here is awesome. The meat was tender, lovely yorkshire's and veg and the extra side of creamy cauliflower cheese was spot on. Friendly, efficient service and a nice relaxing proper country pub with real ales and all at a very reasonable price. What's not to like. Our second visit to the Red Dog and we'll definitely be back again.

Had enough of the Luke warm dinners at Haven Allhallows caravan park , so we headed to the red dog and Had a lovely meal here ,great food and lovely staff . Definitely will return , highly recommend

Lunch menu, good food and service

Food was lovely but the service was shocking and for that reason I wouldn't return. A brand-new waitress was serving us, overseen by a more experienced staff member. Our large table split our bill and left, having enjoyed our food and had a great time. As we got into our car, a different waitress sprinted from the pub to our car and told us we had neglected to pay the full bill. I assured her we had, but was asked to accompany her back inside to clear up the discrepancy. I found this quite embarrassing in front of a pub garden full of people as it was obvious she was accusing us of doing a runner without paying properly. After going back inside, I checked the receipt again to discover they had reprinted it and added 3 cocktails to our bill, leaving £14.55 outstanding. I assured her we hadn't had any cocktails, and these weren't on the original bill which was brought to the table. After going back and forth with the waitress clearly not believing me, the original waitress came over and confirmed we didn't have any cocktails and the new waitress had mistakenly added another tables drinks to our own bill. As it turns out, we'd actually been overcharged by nearly £6, which I didn't get back. I understand mistakes happen but to be chased outside the pub and repeatedly accused of lying about our bill, it's left a really bad taste in my mouth and I won't return, which is a shame as the food was nice.

We popped in today and it’s not much to look at (sorry!) so didn’t expect much when it came to the food. How wrong was I! All home made - the lasagne had loads of meat and a decent size. The home made scotch egg on the ploughman’s was delish. Burgers and homemade chips - we will be back! Staff lovely and regulars all very welcoming. Thank you team.

Food over priced but ok once the cook had stubbed his fag out. Real ale very very poor. Proper Job real ale was just vinegar tasting. I was told it was the last one from the barrel but I got a 'sorry about that' only. Solar Wave ale was cloudy and was told 'this might be on the way out too'. However, Ok if you are a lager drinker. Good selection. Everyone was on that. Each to their own but 7 tables all had 3 plus people on it smoking real cigarettes created a choking enviroment and ash blizzard was all far too much, especially whilst eating our food. They did not even seem to care. Completely inconciderate workmen. Workmen with their foul language oblivious to my wife sitting in the so called outside dining area which was really an extension to the car park area on a bench. I hate a 'sorry' where the bar and serving staff should have actually acted. Will not be back. Ok if you want a lads after work beer before facing the wife and kids.

Ordered 4 takeaway Sunday lunches. Wow they were outstanding. Fantastic quality meat, plenty of veg, potatoes were to die for and as for the gravy that was absolutely delicious. Very well presented takeaway. Would certainly recommend it and I'll certainly be going back for more.

We drove down from London, just to look around and after visiting several pubs that advertised food but didn't serve anymore we were advised that this was the pub to visit and they certainly didn't disappoint! The staff were extremely friendly and efficient as was the crazy (in a fun way!) Chef. The service was excellent and the food was yummy ! We will definitely be back for more x

Popped in for a light lunch, Waitress was lovely! Food was ok bit greasy, good homemade chips, unfortunately the wait for food took ages!! 1 hour for some cheesy chips, a salad and garlic bread.

Took short notice booking. Busy on a Sunday, slots currently 12, 2, and 4pm which was plenty for a family with children. Good sized roast, childrens options available. Meat is not carvery quality, but nicely cooked and plenty of it. Lots of veg, try the cauliflower cheese extra - best I have had. Not a great selection of draught beer, but bottled options can be a fair substitute. Friendly but not over attentive service. Reasonable prices. Small car park, but local streets unrestricted. Give it a go
